Chapter 48 Dream Meeting

As the Higurashi family prepare themselves for dinner, Kaede somehow feels strange about something. She just can't put her hand on it. "Hey, are you ok?" Kagome asks quietly to her cousin. "It's ok." Kagome said seeing that Kaede isn't saying anything back to her. "I'll be ok. Just anxious about the task at hand." Kaede finally spoke as she resumes her meal. Kagome looks up to see that everyone else is minding their own business that she shouldn't butt in. The rest of dinner was uneventful to say at the least.

Later that evening, Kaede is in the bathroom brushing her teeth. The noise of the brushing blocks off the door opening and closing behind her. Kaede spits into the sink. "Hey." Kagome speaks. Kaede gasps quickly. "Geez, Kagome. Don't scare me like that." Kaede exclaims as she tries to calm down. "Sorry. I didn't mean to scare you. You're just anxious about tomorrow. I feel the same way. But I don't let that bother me until it's time to do it. So just relax. There's nothing to worry about." Kagome advises her cousin and leaves the bathroom to go back to her bedroom.

Kaede gets into her room and looks to see her phone fully charged. Knowing that there's nothing she can do anything else at this point, she decides to go to sleep. As soon as she falls asleep, a quite fog seeps through the window of her bedroom since it's in the basement of the house. A few seconds later the fog begins to take shape of Kikyo. She smiles as she sees her stepsister asleep. 'Good time as any.' She spoke and places her hand onto her stepsister's forehead.

Kaede moans as she sees herself in the scene where she saw the crash. "So, this is how I die." Kikyo's voice spoke out of nowhere. Kaede looks around. She gasps to see Kikyo's spirit by her side. "How sad." It was Tsubaki's voice that gets Kikyo's attention. Kikyo turns to see Tsubaki with a sympathetic look. "Don't be fooled, Kaede." Kikyo spoke to Kaede. "Look at her hands." Kikyo instructs Kaede to take a look at Tsubaki's hands. Kaede sees how dirty they look. But there's something else other than the dirt. Some spots have soot. Maybe from fire. Tsubaki spoke to her."Don't be a fool, you know fully well that I can see you. If you want to know who caused the accident, it was…" Kikyo blocks the voice so that Kaede wouldn't hear it. "It was her, Kaede. And I can prove it." Kikyo said to her serious. Before anything else happens, Kikyo manages to get Keade out of that repeated nightmare she had before.

Kaede sits up straight panting from the experience. "It's ok, Kaede. I'm here." Kikyo appears in front of her. Kaede gasps. "Kikyo, what are you doing here?" She asks quietly so that she wouldn't wake up her mother in the next room. "I had to go through your memories of the nightmare you might have mistaken for." Kikyo replies back calmly. "But I don't remember any of it." Kaede confirms her claims back as she tries to hold her head with one hand to think back as much as she can to recall the event.

"It's nothing to worry about. I have what I need to prove about that is was Tsubaki who did it. And I know fully well how she did it." Kikyo assures her. "Until tomorrow will the moment I'll finally rest in peace once and for all." She smiles at the end of her statement. Kaede nods back. "We'll do our thing, together." Kikyo smiles gently and places her forehead onto her stepsister's own. "You have my word." She then fades away.

Kikyo returns back to the shop where Mrs. Hitori is waiting patiently. Mrs. Hitori sees the locket pulsate a few times. "Mrs. Hitori, I'm back." Kikyo's voice spoke through the item. "I just want to make sure you got what you needed for your case, Kikyo." The older woman said back to her. Kikyo takes possession of the mannequin. "Will this work in our favor? We need to make sure that the room doesn't freak out." Kikyo as she is able to move the arms and legs of the mannequin rather easily. "I only assembled those who are aware of the afterlife. So there's nothing to freak out about it." Mrs. Hitori said confidently. Kikyo understands the woman's strategy of the upcoming moment and practiced using her spirit thoroughly so that nothing goes wrong with the mannequin.

The next day, Kaede wakes to see it's only 8 am. Her mind is still processing from her sister's visit. Little did she know, her door opens up to see Miyuki coming in. "Kaede, sweetie?" She asks as she comes to her side. Kaede blinks her eyes a few times. "Oh, morning." She smiles to her stepmother. "I can see that something is bothering you. Do you want to talk about it?" Miyuki asks her curiously. Kaede shakes her head. "No, it's nothing to be concerned about. Just a bizarre dream I can't describe properly." Kaede waves her hand to dismiss the moment. "Ok, well. I'm here to tell you that the court case is this afternoon." Miyuki reminds her.

Then something crossed Kaede's mind. "What about Tsubaki? Is she going to be there?" She asks. Miyuki nods. "You have a point there. We need to make sure she shows up. But if she doesn't show up, then the police with place her under arrest. And I think that's the best option we have. We need to make sure she's there, volunteering or not." She decides to leave Kaede alone so that she can get ready for the day. Miyuki heads into the kitchen to get some coffee from the coffee maker. She sees Hige reading the morning paper casually. "Anything interesting in the paper lately?" Miyuki asks him as she sits at the empty chair at the table. "No, but you can read what I read so far. Here." Hige shakes his head and hands over the selections of the paper he read so far to her. Miyuki starts off with the various events that happen in the area so far. Nothing is important. The weather tells it's going to rain some time in the afternoon. Possibly during the court case.

Miyuki goes to the next page and widens her eyes. "Hige look at this." Miyuki shows him the page she found out interesting. "What is it?" Hige asks her as he reads what her finger is on. "Looks like a teenager has been arrest last night." Hige said pathetically. Miyuki glares at him in disbelief. "Do you even know who this teenager is?" Miyuki asks him as calmly as she could. Hige reads the name of the teenager. "Tsubaki." That's all he said. "What about her?" Miyuki takes a deep breath. "She's the one who was harassing Kagome. She was Kikyo's friend turned enemy." Miyuki explains the girl's backstory. Hige wasn't aware about any of this. As such he's going to be informed more about the teenager than what's on the paper.
