Chapter 28

dushyant was humming in front of the mirror, as he composed himself. kavin had his glance fixed on him for a quite a while, before he walked to him,

"sun, meri gaadi, phir aaj?" asked kavin.

"hmm, sure.." agreed dushyant with a smile on his face.

"i, just..." uttered kavin.

"sorry ki koi zaroorat nahi hai, aur waise bhi, mera bahana thodi chahiye ab purvi ko bolane ke liye..." remarked dushyant as he patted kavin on the shoulder.

"right...aur ishita ke liye, kiska bahana lagega?" retorted kavin.

"you know kavin, i'm so happy for you, tumhara sense of humour, finally above average ho gaya hai..." commented dushyant, as kavin wrapped his arm around him.

"aaja, apni above average gaadi mein, above average jokes sunaunga..." joked kavin, as they left the room.

"saale lift bhi main doon, aur darwaaza bhi main hi lock karoon..." grumbled kavin.

"aur bana le above average jokes..." teased dushyant, with a smirk that soon faded away, when he saw his mother in front of him.

"arre, acha hua tum log yahi mil gaye...main nahi jaa rahi dobara woh saddi se bus mein..." blurted purvi as she came out of her appartment, only to pause upon seeing shivani.

"i thought, tum log, nikal gaye hoge..." stated shivani, as dushyant just glared at her, while kavin and purvi, looked at each other in utterly perplexed state, not knowing what to do.

"that, would have been, much better..." remarked dushyant.

"kaise ho?" asked shivani, as dushyant nodded his head in agreement.

"purvi, tum..." pointed shivani.

"thik hoon...thik hoon." uttered purvi in awkwardness.

"kyun aayi hain aap?" asked dushyant.

"uhh, woh, main jaa rahi hoon, wapas..." informed shivani.

"so, you are leaving again..." responded dushyant.

"dushyant, i..." attempted shivani to defend herself.

"you know, only thing worse, than abandoning me, was doing it all over again...so, thanks, mother of the year." said dushyant, before he walked away.

"he's just, a little mad...he didn't mean that..." consoled purvi, as shivani jsut shook her head.

"i think, i should go, he...needs...someone..." said kavin pointing to the hallway, as purvi nodded in agreement.

dushyant rested his back on the kavin's car, as he looked down on his shoes, that were making little circles on the ground. kavin came by, and stood next to him.

"hey..." said kavin, as dushyant just remained mum.

"dushyant, i get it, kyun naraaz ho tum unse...and you are not wrong..." noted kavin.

"i used to be mad at my mom too...when she married your dad. i felt like she moved on when i didn't, and she's just, leaving me behind...but then i realised, she's not just my mom, that's not her whole life, and, i wouldn't want to be the reason she doesn't choose a life where she's happy. because, she would want the same for me..." explained kavin.

"i thought it would be easier this time, if i hated her, and she wouldn't come back again, if she thought i hated her..." clarified dushyant, as kavin scoffed.

"mission accomplished?" questioned kavin as dushyant shook his head in no.

"why, torture yourself and her, huh? just go and tell her the truth man!" insisted kavin, as dushyant glanced at him as if asking for one last confirmation, which kavin assured with his gaze, and dushyant ran.

purvi, who witnessed all of this, now appeared in front of kavin.

"you did a good thing.." she remarked.

"maybe you should take your own advice too..." she suggested, as she saw in his eyes, the desire for reconciliation.

"i am so sorry usne aise behave kiya..." said anjula, as she sipped another sip from her cup of tea, sitting on the opposite end of the dinning table, from shivani.

"i deserve it..." remarked shivani.

suddenly, there was a knock on the door.

"pata nahi kaun aa gaya, itni subha-subha..." wondered anjula, as she opened the door to dushyant.

"tum?" questioned anjula, as shivani turned to see him.

"uhh, woh, mom, mujhe, baat karni hai, aapse..." fumbled dushyant, as a shocked shivani looked at anjula, who just made way for him to enter, with a tiny smile on her face.

he quickly moved to her, as he sat on his knees in front of her.

"mom, i am so sorry, jo maine kaha, bahar...i didn't mean it...i just, i just, i just really miss you...a lot...and i don't, exactly, hate you...i am, just, really sorry..." flustered dushyant, as shivani grabbed him by his shoulders.

"it's ok..." she assured him with a sweet smile.

"really, because i think should have atleast given a second thought to what the hell i am going to say...and i don't do that, i actually, think what i am going to say, before i am going to say it...i, i am not, making this any better, i'll just shut up." blurted out dushyant, as shivani chuckled.

"you haven't changed, at all..." she remarked, as a tear escaped her eye, and she hugged dushyant.

"i love you too, beta..." she confessed in the hug, and maybe that's all he needed her to say.

dushyant was about to press the button to the lift, when he noticed ishita, climbing down the stairs.

"hey!" he exclaimed, as he ran to her.

"hi..." she replied, continuing to climb downstairs.

"lift ho gayi hai, for real..." informed dushyant.

"yeah, i just, didn't want to take a chance right now...i wouldn't have two hours to spare, that too alone.." remarked ishita.

"i would have liked to be in a dark lift alone before, perfect place to smoke over my mommy issues..." recounted dushyant, as ishita chuckled.

"why, did they got resolved?" questioned ishita.

"yeah, just now, actually..." responded dushyant, as ishita looked at him with disbelief at first, but his insisting gaze, convinced her otherwise.

"oh my god, you are serious..." observed ishita, as he nodded in agreement.

"that's great.." responded ishita.

"what about, your, family issues..i mean, tumhari nani ka kya reaction tha after knowing about your dad?" questioned dushyant.

"i haven't told her, she's an old lady, want to spare her the heart attack..." replied ishita.

"that's actually, not a bad idea..." remarked dushyant, as they both chuckled.

they had reached the society parking lot.

"so, you think you, might just, stay here?" asked dushyant.

"i don't see myself going home soon..." responded ishita.
