"Why is nothing working?" Dagur snarled.

"We don't know sir," the healer said nervously. "None of our antidotes are working, she isn't reacting to any of them."

"Then try something else!"

"There is nothing else! We've tried everything!"

With a snarl Dagur threw a chair across the room. It smashed against the wall and caused the healers to start. They all looked at him nervously as he paced back and forth.

It had been four days since he brought Iris to the Defenders of the Wing. For four days she laid on a cot unmoving, barely breathing. She had been cleaned and her injuries tended to but if a stranger were to look in they'd think she was a corpse. Now the head healer just told him none of their cures were working.

"If Vivian was here," he began. He stopped, staring at Iris. "Vivian can be here. She can do something." He spun around and snapped at the healers. "I need Hiccup now! One of you go find him and bring him here!"

With a squeak one of the apprentice healers raced out of the building. He ignored the remaining healers and knelt by Iris. His hand gripped hers tightly. They were cold. He didn't like that. Iris hated being cold. She'd always snuggle up to him when she was cold and claim he was her walking heater.

"Stay with me," he whispered. "For a little longer. I'm going to fix this." As usual there was no response.

"Dagur what's wrong?" Hiccup asked some time later. "You need me?"

"I need you to do something. Something important. I can only trust you to do it. No one else can know about this or go with you."

Hiccup looked at him nervously.

"What is it?" he asked.

"I need you to follow Enigma," Dagur said quietly so the healers couldn't hear him. "She is going to lead you to an island that you can tell no one about. On that island there is a cave. Follow Enigma through that cave. Don't stop no matter what. It is going to lead you somewhere no one but Enigma, Jager, Iris, and I have been."

"Should I be scared? I think I'm already scared. Dager, where exactly are you sending me?"

"To Iris' homeland."

"Wait so I have to go through a cave to get through the fog?" Dagur shook his head.

"Just follow Enigma," he urged. "Follow her when you get there. Don't get seperated from her. She'll take you to Iris' family. There you'll find Vivian. Tell her Iris needs her."

"So who's Vivian?" Dagur gave a grim smile.

"The woman who fixed my injuries and the only hope Iris has now. Her mother, the best healer I know."

Break

"There's the island bud," Hiccup said nervously. "Looks like Enigma is ready. Huh girl?"

The white and grey dragon growled, staring at him with her deep red eyes. She hadn't been the same either after Iris had been kidnapped and held hostage. Ever since they went to the Defenders of the Wing and she attacked Jager, she was calm, more calculated, ready to kill. Not the frantic dragon that had beat Jager in a cowed mess. It made Hiccup's skin crawl.

Before them was a plain rock island. Nothing was there except a mound of rocks that were sitting in the shape of a dragon. Between its forelegs was the cave Dagur had talked about.

Enigma flew closer to them and bumped Toothless' shoulder with her head. The Nightfury chirped, nudging her back before grabbing her tail with his mouth. This behavior surprised Hiccup but lately everything was surprising.

"Let's go then."

Matching their speed Enigma flew to the cave. Hiccup thought she was going to land but instead she just flew into the pitch black cave. He braced himself for her to crash into the back wall but instead she dove downwards, leading Toothless.

The air around them was so dark Hiccup couldn't see his own hand in front of his face. It began to lighten though and he saw strange things moving through the darkness. All of the strange creatures glowed different colors, moving through the darkness as if it was water.

Enigma shrieked and began to fly upwards. Toothless gave a muffled whined, still holding onto her tail with his mouth, but followed. The air got colder. This must have been why Dagur told him to bring winter clothing. He shrugged on his coat and hunkered closer to Toothless.

Suddenly the cave was filled with light. Hiccup could see his breath puff out in front of him. Enigma shrieked again and burst through a white wall. It was solid snow! At the impact of her body it exploded to expose a bright blue sky and giant evergreens.

She shrieked, beating her wings even harder. Toothless let go so the Fury Howler could soar into the blue sky above them. Where ever they were Enigma felt comfortable. Her wings opened fully and she roared.

A few roars answered her. Toothless perked up. There were other dragons here!

"Let's catch up," Hiccup said and the Nightfury growled his agreement.

They shoot up into the sky to follow after a still rising Enigma. Now Hiccup could see the land before them. Everywhere was white with barren trees or splashes of green evergreens. Three dragons, two of them looking similar to Jager only smaller, soared towards them from different directions. Enigma roared, spitting a ball of fire into the air, and caused the dragons to stop when the ball exploded.

She hovered in the air, staring at each of the three dragons that glided closer to her. One had a mane like Enigma only not as thick. That one was a light blue with a black pattern similar to Enigma's. The other two were a deep brown but one had a white pattern like Enigma's over its body while the other had black on its wings like Jager. They all had silver eyes, all three sets fixated on Enigma.

She made strange growling noises at the other dragons. It sounded as if she was talking to them. They all paid close attention as if they could understand her so it was plausible. The light blue one gave a soft shriek, bobbing its head. Enigma huffed and looked back at Hiccup and Toothless. She gave a growl, which Toothless answered, and folded in her wings. She dropped like a stone towards the ground.

"AAAAHHHHHH!" Hiccup screamed as Toothless and the other three dragons copied Enigma.

Before reaching the ground all five dragons snapped open their wings, the force of the drop going backwards to lift them up into the air. Enigma took off to the south and they followed.

"That was terrifying," Hiccup groaned. "Let's never do that again from that height." Toothless just chortled.

Soon they came upon a strange sight. A large wooden fence surrounded a group of buildings. Nothing stirred outside.

Where ever this was Enigma was comfortable with it. She landed easily on the snow covered ground only to bound towards what had to be a house. She collided with the door, whining and clawing at it. Someone opened the door only to scream and close it suddenly. That wasn't good.

After a few seconds the door flew open again. A tall blonde woman threw herself at Enigma. The dragon cooed and rested her head against the woman's back. However the woman didn't stay there long before frantically looking at Enigma's back.

"Are you Vivian?" Hiccup called. The woman spun around and stared at him in shock.

"Yes I am," she said. "Who the hell are you?"

"I'm Hiccup," he explained. "Dagur sent me. We need you. Iris is in trouble."

Break

"Some psychopath fed my daughter an unknown poison?" Vivian shrieked. The boy before her nodded nervously. "And Dagur expects ME to be able to fix it? With what? I have no clue what kind of poison she was force fed! It would take me-"

"Here," Olga said firmly. She plopped the thick leather book in front of her. "Look in here."

"This is not the time Olga," Vivian snapped. The older woman just stared at her. "Ugh! Fine!"

Vivian laid her hand on the book. She took a deep breath to calm her nerves. Like Olga taught her she focused on the topic at hand, Iris at some place called Defender of the Wing where healers couldn't cure her. The leather beneath her hand began to warm, a sign to move her hand before it snapped open and smashed her hand on the table. Again.

Hiccup stared in awe as the leather book flew open and turned pages on its own. Vivian had been impressed at first and still was, just not as much as the first time. The book stopped moving its pages and laid open. The images on the pages began to rise up and play live a movie.

It played what happened to Iris as if it were telling a story. Words moved beneath the pictures emotionlessly. Vivian was ready to cry as she watched her daughter be whipped and beaten. She could feel Jon shaking next to her.

They watched Iris get brought to the deck and used to threaten Dagur. When Enigma attacked the ship Jon muttered about her being a good dragon. Iris was trapped at the ship railing, still bound, only to have this man Krogan grab her.

"Kick him," Jon shouted. "Head butt him again! Do something!"

Bottoms up scrawled beneath the image. Vivian stared as it explained Krogan gave her a slow acting poison that was from extracted from a familiar sounding plant. It was called foxglove in English. It wouldn't kill immediately but would cause the victim to hover between life and death for seven days. It claimed only the tears of some blossom would cure it. The name was familiar.

"Yarrow," Vivian shouted. "That's yarrow!"

"That can save Iris?" Hiccup asked anxiously.

"Yes but only if placed directly in her bloodstream at this point," Vivian said. Hiccup stared blankly at her. "I don't have time to teach you. I need to grab my medic bag!"

"You need to pack it in a different bag," Olga said quietly. "And you and Jon need to change into something less modern." Vivian stared at the older woman as she set down a bundle of clothing and a plain handmade leather bag. It dawned on her.

"You knew about this," Vivian said quietly. "Didn't you?" No point in being angry now.

"Only part," Olga answered. "You both were going to be drawn there. Gods know your only child is there. It was only a matter of time before something would take you there. I didn't think it would be something like this."

"That's why you came back," Jon commented. He had been oddly quiet. "You knew someone needed to stay here."

"It is the least I can do," Olga said. "To take care of your home." She glanced at Hiccup. "I'd pack what you can bring. You need to go before Iris gets any worse."

"My medical supplies can't be changed," Vivian said. "I need an IV bag, I need needles, syringes, I can't-"

"Destroy it when you are done," Olga responded. "And hide it from anyone who isn't Iris or Dagur. I won't stop you."

"Thanks. Mom."

I couldn't decide how to split this part up so its just one giant chapter.
