Night had fallen and nothing had happened. Iris paced anxiously, staring into the dark sea. No one had found the way into the center of the island to find the Bewilderbeast and no one had seen any sign of the Dragon Hunters. It was wearing on her nerves.
Beside her Enigma growled and kneaded her claws into the ground. Iris' nerves were affecting her as well as being seperated from her egg. It wasn't something Iris could blame her for since she also worried over Yarrow. The desire to hold her baby caused her chest to ache from more than just being overfull of milk.
"Anything?" she asked Dagur as he and Jager landed. He shook his head. "Dammit."
"It'll be alright," he said. "We have what they want. They have no choice but to some here."
"I know," she sighed. "But my mind is full of what ifs. What if they went to search somewhere else? What if they decided to attack the Murking Tribe or our people? What if-"
Dagur cut her off with a swift kiss. She pulled back, giving him a scowl, but pressed her forehead against his chest. His arms wrapped around her as he rested his chin on her head.
"Ships approaching," someone shouted. "Hostile flags! The Dragon Hunters are here!"
Quickly they seperated and jumped onto their dragons. Enigma shrieked in rage as the enemy she had been waiting for finally approached. Rearing up Jager gave a roar before launching into the air, Enigma following after him. Iris leaned close to the angry Fury Howler as she swooped through the air. The other Riders quickly joined them.
"Take out as many of their ships as you can," Hiccup shouted. "Keep them from docking!"
"You heard him," Dagur roared. "Let's make these fools regret their decision to face Berserkers!"
A series of roars caused Enigma to snarl along with the other dragons. Dragon Flyers swooped down, attacking the Berserker Riders and Hiccup's Riders. Drawing her sword Iris gave a wordless yell as Enigma roared.
"Come face your death ya bastards," she shouted.
As the Riders fought with the Flyers, below Jon shouted orders to the Viking warriors. Flaming rocks flew through the air to smash into the invading ships. Men shouted and screamed as the boats sank but the other ships continued forward. Some managed to dock but had to face angry Berserkers who'd been waiting for them.
"Several ships from the north," a Berserker Rider shouted. "Chief! They're trying to dock among the cliffs!"
"We'll go," Hiccup shouted. "You guys stay here and keep these guys busy!"
"Be safe brother," Dagur roared.
"Let's show these fools who they are messing with," Iris shouted. "Berserker Riders, don't let them pass!"
"That's my wife," Dagur yelled. She just grinned at him.
Without any urging from Iris, Enigma shrieked and flew at the Flyers. The Snigetails shrieked as well as the Fury Howler shot blasts of fire at them. At her side Jager let out a stream of fire, setting the riders' ablaze.
Tail spikes and more fire followed them as the Berserker Riders attacked. Still the Flyers continued from the darkness to attack them. It felt like they were never ending.
Below on the ground the Berserkers fought the Dragon Hunters. Iris swooped down at let Enigma grab a Hunter and lift him into the air only to drop him on a Flyer. Her fire shots were already depleted but that didn't mean she was unarmed. She still had her claws and her fangs, which spooked more than one Singetail into dumping their Flyer and fleeing.
A shrieking roar filled the air and shook the island. Jon shouted for the fighters to retreat to the docks as rocks exploded into the air from the center of the island. For a few unnerving minutes nothing happened. Suddenly, dragons of all kinds began appearing from the darkness, shrieking and roaring as they attacked the Flyers and Hunters. Enigma faltered for a second, her head lolling as her eyes were unfocused.
"Enigma," Iris shouted as they began to drop. "Snap out of it! ENIGMA!"
At her scream the Fury Howler snapped out of her daze. With a roar she snapped out her wings and swooped to the side. Iris gasped for air, still in shock that they almost fell out of the sky. Whatever had made that sound had caused Enigma to react. She'd rather not do that again.
"Iris!" She looked up to see Jager swooping towards them, worry all over Dagur's face. "Are you okay? What happened?"
"Whatever roared caused Enigma to lose focus," Iris said, her hands still trembling. "Did the Berserkers on land get off the island?"
"Yes, they made it to the ships and got away." She gave a sigh of relief. "None of the Dragon Flyers are left. Now its up to Hiccup to stop whatever is happening."
"He can do it. I believe in him."
"I do too."
Little did they know was Hiccup and Toothless fought for their lives and the safety of the Bewilderbeast and its egg. Only Johann and Krogan remained after the other Hunters were killed. The Bewilderbeast took care of Johann but Krogan fled with the egg. Thankfully Toothless saved the egg from him and saved Hiccup, who was in danger.
"Watch out," a Rider shouted.
A massive dragon burst from the center of the island, destroying more as it smashed its way out of the wreckage. The dragons that had appeared began to roar, excited at the sight of the new dragon. It returned their calls with a roar of its own before its massive body jumped off the island and into the water to disappear into the depths of the sea. As if a spell had been broken, the dragons that had gathered scattered once the massive dragon disappeared.
"Was that," Iris began.
"The Bewilderbeast," Dagur finished. They looked at each other anxiously before flying over the island.
The village had been partly destroyed. Most of the houses had been smashed by flying rocks. The Great Hall still stood even with a couple of massive boulders sitting next to it. The dragon proof metal had been strong enough to stop the boulders from crushing it.
There was no missing the massive crater that sat in the center of the island. The Bewilderbeast had been huge and her sudden departure caused the underground caverns to collapse on themselves, causing the wreckage to be even worse. It had been a good choice to evacuate the island.
"Hiccup," Dagur shouted. His shout drew Iris from her thoughts to see the Night Fury fly towards them with Hiccup on his back holding a large egg.
"We made it," Hiccup said breathlessly. "Krogan escaped though. The Bewilderbeast killed Johann, encased him in ice. I don't think we will have to worry about any Dragon Hunters anytime soon."
"Thank the gods," Iris sighed. "What will you do now? Raise the Bewilderbeast?"
"We will take it somewhere safe," Atalia said as she flew over. "It should be kept free, not bound to any village or tribe."
"I agree with you," Iris said. "No one group should be able to hold the power a Bewilderbeast has. Just look at what one did without any Rider to guide it."
Her words caused everyone to nod. Hiccup looked at the massive crater, grimacing at the destruction. Enigma gave a soft coo, nuding his leg, and Iris gave him a soft smile. It wasn't his fault. If anything, it was the Dragon Hunters who held the blame.
"What will you do now?" Hiccup asked as Altia and the other Wing Maidens left with the egg.
"We evacuated our people in case of this," Dagur said wearily. The other Dragon Riders approached them. "And we will follow after them. I can say that both of us are eager to get back to our daughter."
"Where did you move your tribe to?" Astrid asked anxiously, glancing at Heather who flew over to hover by Iris and Dagur.
"Mystery Island," Iris answered. "We'll stay there until we can find a better, uninhabited island to move to."
"You could come to," Hiccup began but Iris and Dagur both stopped him. She smiled at Dagur, gesturing for him to continue.
"The offer is appreciated but we can handle it," Dagur said. He grinned at them all. "After all, we're Berserkers! There's nothing we can't handle!"
