A/N Hey there peeps! My two week break is coming up soon which means I'll have more time to write. Sorry for the wait but enjoy the chapter!

Chapter 10: I'm a seeker and you're my golden snitch

D.A.M

Rumours spread across the school like Fiendfyre. As the day progressed, Draco heard more and more rumours that were more absurd than the last. It was driving him up the wall since there was one common element in everyone's stories, that the Gryffindor golden trio was involved with the troll incident.

Of course, he had seen Harry and his friends throughout the day and they didn't look physically harmed in any way but he was dying to know what happened.

It was not till Sunday afternoon that Draco got his chance.

Pansy had been grumbling for half an hour since Draco had forced her to come and study with him in the library.

Draco continued to ignore her theatrics and concentrated on finishing his damn History of Magic essay.

Honestly, the history of pureblood families that I learnt growing up is more interesting than who stole from who and killed who. It's a pain to memorise a bunch of useless names that we will never hear in our life again.

As Draco was writing his conclusion on Emeric the Evil for Professor Binns, he glanced at his watch and saw the time.

Earlier he had overheard the Gryffindor quidditch captain Wood in the corridors telling one of his players that practice was at 3 pm.

Being 4 pm, Draco assumed they would be close to wrapping things up. So he cast a quick-drying charm and hastily gathered his things.

"Where are you going, Drake? Don't leave me and finish this by myself." Pansy cried out.

"Pansy, if you call me that again I will strangle you," Draco growled but still smiled nonetheless. "I've gotta go talk to Professor Snape about his assignment and if I can get some extra credit."

Before she could get a chance to respond, Draco had already walked out of the library.

As Draco made his way down to the pitch, he saw Harry dismounting his broom.

Draco could already see a few of Harry's teammates coming out of the changing rooms and trekking up to the castle.

Hoping Harry would be the last one in the changing room, he snuck round to the back and poked his head in. His eyes landed on the Weasley twins clapping Harry on the back and departed leaving Harry alone.

After a minute, making sure the twins were most definitely gone, Draco was about to head in when Harry's voice stopped him mid-step. "Hello, Draco. I was wondering how long it would take for you to catch me alone."

Draco revealed himself and grumbled "Well you're a popular person apparently. How come you knew I was there?"

"Purr-lease. You stuck your head around the corner for a second. Anyone could spot that unnaturally blonde hair from a mile away." Harry teased playfully.

"Hey!" Draco protested while self consciously patting his hair with his hand. He was very sensitive about his hair, Theo and Blaise often made fun of how long he spent in the bathroom each morning as a result.

"So I guess you will want details on what occurred on Halloween. Correct?" Harry asked, getting straight to the point.

"Yes and don't give me some half-baked story, I want the whole juicy tale," Draco demanded, his eyes daring Harry to do otherwise.

To Draco's delight, Harry did not disappoint him. Harry proceeded to tell him everything that had happened. From Weasel insulting Granger to the trio getting cornered in a girls bathroom of all places with a troll, Draco couldn't help add some snarky remarks like "You stupid idiotic Gryffindor!" or "No sense of self-preservation!"

Unknown to Draco, as Harry concluded the crazy Halloween story, a memory of Snape that night was recalled, reminding himself to tell Draco of the latest mystery.

So Harry went to tell him about the Cerberus and the small brown package Hagrid had collected on his birthday since Harry knew Draco could be trusted.

As the story came to a close, Draco was left with many questions that the trio had been asking themselves for weeks.

What did the package contain?

Why is it so important that a creature, like the Cerberus, was guarding it?

And more importantly, why was such a dangerous beast, protecting who knows what, was doing in a school full of children who it could harm if it ever got loose.

Knowing full well that the Headmaster was behind whatever was going on in the school. Draco's personal opinion of Dumbledore, which was already low, diminished further.

"So to sum it all up, you nearly die from a barmy Headmaster's plans and start to solve these said plans by poking your nose into where it doesn't belong with your idiot friends. I'm in!"

"Really?!" Harry asked in disbelief.

Draco looked at Harry oddly before replying "Of course. You're my friend and friends stick together."

"Thank you, Draco," Harry said quietly but his voice thick with emotion.

Draco was unsure how to respond. A simple 'No Problem' didn't seem right considering how his friend reacted to his offering of help. So he stood in front of Harry awkwardly while his friend regained his composure.

"I-um," Harry mumbled while his emerald green eyes gazed at Draco as if he was contemplating what to say next to the blond.

Draco's own silver-blue eyes gazed back at the emerald eyes, curiously waiting for what Harry had to say.

"Is your Godfather a good guy?" Harry asked quickly while shifting his weight between his feet in a nervous fashion.

The blond narrowed his eyes in thought. Why would Harry ask such a thing?

Before Draco could even comprehend a suitable answer, Harry quickly whispered to him. "Someone's coming!"

Quickly forgetting his train of thought, he whispered back. "Follow my lead.'

Stepping back a step, Draco spoke.

"Think you're so special, Potter. Getting on the team when first years aren't allowed. It's a disgrace to the tradition!"

Harry caught on quickly and replied "You're just jealous Malfoy. That despite being all rich and flaunting your wealth, you got shown up by a Gryffindor. What will your dear housemates say about that huh."

It was at that point when Oliver Wood was standing in the doorway, not quite knowing what he should do. So the two continued their 'bickering'.

"My father will hear of this. It's unjust."

"Oh yes. Go complain to your daddy dearest. He'll make all problems disappear in a click of his fingers for his baby."

Draco's face flushed from genuine embarrassment since he knew that they weren't the only ones hearing this conversation.

And so he huffed in a very un-Malfoy-ish way and stalked out of the changing room, leaving Harry to deal with a devastated quidditch captain.

As the annual Gryffindor versus Slytherin game was upon them, the whole school, bar the two teams, found themselves decked out in house colours sitting in the blistering November cold in the stands surrounding the pitch.

Naturally, all of Slytherin were wrapped up in their green and silver scarves to protect from the cold but as usual, the other of the school were wearing red and gold. It didn't help that the whole school knew that Harry was the Gryffindor seeker after Draco 'accidentally' let slip of the fact.

All of the teachers were just as excited for the first game of the season as the students, though some refused to dress in the colour of either team but most were supporting Gryffindor regardless even if they were in Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw.

Of course, the former Slytherin staff members, Professors Sinistra, Snape and Madam Pomfrey were supporting their old house. It seemed that they were the only ones but there was no surprise there.

Draco, along with his friends were excited about the game and were discussing outcomes of the match.

"Slytherin is going to win for sure," Blaise stated boldly.

"I for one agree with Zabini," Draco answered truthfully although he was looking forward to seeing his friend fly and play an actual game.

"I second that," Millie said.

"Me too." Pansy agreed

"How can you be so sure?" Theo asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Well my sister said that every year she has been here, Slytherin has won both the Quidditch and House cup. It's been that way for many years and I doubt it will change now." Pansy stated, waving her hand as if it was obvious.

"But what has changed this year," Daphne interjected.

"The introduction of the saviour of the wizarding world," Tracey answered.

"Exactly!" Theo said.

"So in other words, Harry freakin Potter is gonna turn the tables on us." Draco summed up.

"He's just a measly first year like us. He is also so small. What's he going to do, knock Higgs off his broom so he can catch the snitch, it would be the other way round." Pansy laughed.

"The golden boy can do no wrong. I wouldn't be surprised if Dumbledore charmed the snitch so only Potter could catch it." Daphne added, scowling in the direction of the headmaster.

"We'll have to wait and see since here come the teams," Millie said.

Once the two team captains shook hands, while trying to crush each other's fingers, they were off and up in the air.

The Slytherin team were brutal to the Gryffindors but the Gryffindors fought back just as hard. Creating many fouls and penalties for each team's chasers.

Draco spotted Harry and Higgs lazily circling the pitch for the snitch. Despite loving quidditch, he didn't want the game to go on and on since it was freezing in the chilly wind, so he hoped Higgs caught it reasonably soon.

It was then when Harry and Higgs suddenly dived towards the snitch.

Harry was gaining on the small golden ball and Higgs was behind, unable to catch up.

But before Harry could reach for the winged ball, he was almost knocked off his broom by one of the Slytherin chasers, resulting in a penalty for the Gryffindor team.

That caused a massive uproar from Gryffindor supporters.

Alas, once both seekers were back on track, the snitch had already disappeared and the game continued on.

Draco knew that Harry would be disappointed since the snitch had been within his grasp but this was a game and the Slytherins were ready to stretch the rules thin for a win.

Everything was going good, well as good as it could be in a quidditch game when something strange started to occur on the pitch.

"What the hell is Potter doing," Daphne exclaimed, spotting Harry's broom trying to buck him off.

"Why are you complaining, this gives Higgs a chance to get the snitch while Potter is distracted!" Blaise hissed at Daphne, looking delighted.

Draco though, was quite the opposite.

His normal calm cascade was not reflecting what he was truly feeling.

He felt like his heart was going to explode from his chest at the sight of his friend dangling from below his broom, holding on for dear life.

Draco desperately wanted to yell for someone to do something but he was frozen with fear that he would do something he would regret.

But then Draco's eyes glazed over the teachers stand and spotted two teachers chanting without blinking.

Professors Quirrell and Snape.

Draco was mentally racking his brain for answers on what they were doing.

Then it hit him.

It was a jinx of some kind that was making Harry's broom act like that.

An abrupt sound of noise around him, brought him back to his surroundings, realising that Harry had climbed back on his broom and was speeding towards the ground, with Higgs hot on his trail.

With a glance at the teacher's stand, Draco saw both Professors had stopped chanting and turned their attention back to the game.

The confused blond was so busy trying to calm his racing heart that he didn't notice that Harry had caught the snitch by almost swallowing it whole and had won the game for the lions.

He was relieved that Harry hadn't plummeted to the ground and gotten hurt, that he didn't care in the slightest that Slytherin had lost the first match of the season.

The only important thing right now was to track down his friend and see if he was alright, along with telling him what he had seen.
