Good morning or afternoon readers! Welcome to the first instalment of an self-insert fanfic: RWBY: Remnant's of Another World.
As you may have tell by the title, this story was inspired by The Quebec's story of the same name, but has since been discontinued. So any and all inspirations and credits goes to him. But to ensure this is still "fresh", I'm going to make more than a few changes to make it unique in its own way and to make sure it doesn't look like I'm just copying and pasting everything. Some of these include the changes of dialogue and some characters as well. As for the new character in self-insert fan-fictions, I know some writers tend to make them some sort of flawless edge god that can obliterate any and all foes with a single flick of his fingers. Like Quebec before, I do not want to go with this route
If any of you don't know what the world of RWBY is, here's the crash course of it: The world of RWBY takes place in the world of Remnant and is inhabited by humans and a race of humans with animal-like traits known as the Faunus. Both sides are threatened by soulless creatures known as "The Grimm". And protecting this world are elite warriors called Huntsman and Huntresses…and almost every single fucking weapon…is a gun! I'm talking about hammers that can turn into grenade launchers, spears and scythes that can turn into sniper rifles, nunchucks that can turn into shot guns. So that leaves the question…when the hell are we going to see the frying pan?
Another note is that I don't want to make the entirety of the story about me. So all of the original casts of characters will still play their respected roles. However, there will be some changes as some characters do need a touch of development. As mentioned before, the story will change, making it somewhat fresh by adding some of my own elements. This also includes the original OC of the story "Brandon Kim" in terms of appearance, personality, and even name. To ensure this happens, I'll also be including events that are presented in other RWBY media such as the comics, games, books, and even manga. But for this special occasion, I'll be including the events of the fan-made game: JPDE
I haven't played it myself, but from what I can tell, it's a RWBY dating simulator with a really good story. And to get this off of my chest, there will be NO HAREMS! There will be love interests her and there, but not a full blown harem.
Another note I should make that this story will have multiple POV's (Point of Views) so that way that the story isn't just focused on the main character. Now if you haven't already clicked off of the story already, then you probably just want to read it. Well, I won't keep all you waiting!
Disclaimer: I don't own RWBY, all rights to the series go to Rooster Teeth. Please support the official release

Well…we did it…we actually fucking did it! We only had one job in this world and somehow, we managed to screw it up! We had to care for the planet, treat it lie it was your own friend, family, yourself, and even your beloved dog! And for God's sake, DON'T start a nuclear war. And as you can see…or can't see, none of us didn't really listen or take any of our past mistakes seriously. Right, I should probably explain a few things first.
As I'm speaking, the entire human race on Earth is near the point of global extinction because a few people that were racist and paranoid enough to break into a top secret site in the United States AND launch a majority of its arsenal of nuclear weapons towards other countries such as China, Mexica, and even Russia! This kickstarted an event which came to the world known as "Judgment Day". And instead of doing an actual in depth investigation to catch the people responsible for it, other countries fired their own nuclear weapons, which eventually led to World War III! I mean, you would think that after not one but TWO World Wars, we would've finally learned our lesson, but I guess not!
I've read several online posts that the worst enemy of mankind is themselves, but I never would'v thought that we would be stupid enough to cause out own extinction…but then again, mankind never ceases to disappoint. I mean, you'd think countries such as Afghanistan became a nuclear wasteland, everyone would've call off their shots. But nope, lets continue to drag everyone down with us! But now that I think about it, with how everyone has been acting towards one another, it was going to happen sooner or later during our lifetime.
"Not to mention that with the current people that were or are still in power, I'm still kind of surprised that it took them this long to steer us to total shit." I said with a chuckle
.
.
What!? Give me a break, I literally just kicked the bucket! And I believe that gives me the right to poke fun at the people and the world I live on! Just like I always do!
.
.
Right, I has been who knows how long and you don't know who I am. So, allow me to introduce myself, my name is Christian Pendragon, I'm sixteen years old, almost seventeen when it hits January and for the entirety of my life, I've been staying with my uncle and aunt after some…complications with my birthparents. Getting back on track, and as I said beforehand, I kicked the bucket. And everyone in the Western provinces of Canada are either dead, about to be dead, or have somehow survived. Then again, surviving where I'm from means you have to live in small and crowded areas, have to be on guard for any attacks from other nations or possible raids from bandits. And because of the constant flow of refugees every single week, we are in constant need of food water, and other supplies because people seem to rather consume them faster than a fat guy at an all you can eat buffet!
As for how I kicked the bucket, it wasn't exactly the most painless or quiet way to go out. It was actually the most painful and extreme route in the form of being blown up by a nuclear bomb of all things! And in-case you don't know, before being blown up really fucking hurts! You can still feel the heat the blast gives off, even from a long distance, it almost feels like your swimming in a bowl of lava! But then again, it's better than dying slowly from radiation poisoning soon afterwards. So aside from my very skin burning with boils forming and my very blood boiling from the heat, it was at least a quick end. Even though it did hurt…
As for where exactly I am…I'm now where. Allow me to rephrase that, when I woke up here, I saw nothing but pitch black all around me, but I still could see parts of my body, so I'm not in a dark place. But this place seems to be some kind of "void", that was void of anything here and anything to hear.
"Huh, that rhymed." I muttered to myself
But what took me off guard was when I realized that I was floating, and with my irrational fear of heights, you could imagine my reaction involving screams and flailing my arms around. Getting back on track, it was impossible to tell exactly how long I was floating for. To be honest, I stopped counting after an hour and forty-five minutes…I was bored, okay!? Even when I did eventually stop counting, it felt like I was floating in the same spot for hours, possibly days on end. Now I don't know if this has to do with my lack of patience, or anything else entirely, but I do hope that something…ANYTHING happens. Now, I don't know if this void is supposed to be purgatory, limbo, of if there really is a man with a giant beard upstairs reviewing my entire life before deciding if I should go to heaven or hell. I mean, I'm not a bad person per'se, but I did do things that I'm not exactly proud of…even if some of them wasn't my fault and were in self-defence or anger.
.
.
On second thought, I take back what I said earlier. I'd rather be here dying of boredom rather than bathing bathing in a big pool of hellfire for all of eternity. However…
"It would be nice to have SOMEONE, ANYONE to talk to!" I shouted to no one in particular. "It's actually really lonely in here…"
Wait, if this really is purgatory…then wouldn't there be other people here waiting to be judged as well?
.
.
Okay, now I'm overthinking too much.
But on another strange note, I'm still wearing the same clothing I had on before getting blown up. What I'm wearing is a short sleeved black and blue checkered shirt with a grey long sleeved shirt underneath. Along with that are dark blue jeans and a pair of semi-white shoes with black laces. Then again, it's better than wearing a white robe because I don't like wearing white outfits…and it's not the way you think! It's just because white clothing stains very easily and it's a nightmare to rub out, I even had to throw some of my shirts out because of this! But I do prefer wearing the robes rather than wearing nothing but chains on my arms and legs.
In terms of appearance, I'm not exactly drop-dead handsome, though I'm not exactly what people would call "ugly"…at least that's my personal preference. I have short blonde hair, blue eyes, a white complexion, and a thin build. And as mentioned beforehand, I'm sixteen years old and weigh just about one hundred-twenty pounds….there's a good reason for me being so light.
.
But now thinking about it, I guess there's really no point explaining who I am or what I look like. Considering I don't think appearances will matter that much in the afterlife
With nothing else to do, I silently sighed to myself, curled up into a ball, closed my eyes, and began to think about everything that had just transpired. My friends, my family, my hopes, my dreams, everything that I did or wanted to do later on, but never really got the chance to. My life, was short compared to the more older residents of my town, but I did at least enjoy it. Plus, I can't really complain about kicking the bucket, considering it was technically my decision in the first place.
I started to recollect the events that only happened mere hours ago…
(Flashback) Laval, Quebec | Saturday, 10:50 AM | August 25th, 20XX | (My POV)
It was all so sudden, everything seemed to be just fine from the trees that made up a majority of our green, to the buildings that made up the town, and everyone living here was going on about their normal day. It was almost noon in my hometown of Laval, Quebec, which also happens to be one of the only stable settlements in the Northern territories. But despite it being a weekday, the roads that twisted and turned around buildings and block was nearly filled to the brim with people and cars; varying from trucks to military squad cars. The clear blue sky was filled with white fluffy clouds, with birds varying from robins to sparrows that sung in rhythm with one another.
Meanwhile, everyone else in Laval were just carrying out their daily routines, but others such as myself were making the most of what little time we had left before September 1st. You see, today wasAugust 29th, but in less than a week, summer vacation would end and school would start back up again. But despite the constant fear of war happening from all sides, the remaining people in power thought it was necessary to keep the schools running in order to preserve humanities future once the war ends. Or to rather, to preserve what little information and knowledge we had left.
Anyways, kids were seen spending the rest of their time playing in the park, laughing as hey clung and ran across the playground. Adults were talking about what was on their minds about politics, sports, or other topics in general. Teenagers were either playing sports, hanging out, or talking about what they wanted to do before schools resumes once more. Adults on the other hand, were talking about what was on their mind about politics, sports or other topics in general. As I said before, everything seemed just fine.
.
But it wasn't always like this…
I don't feel like going into deep details, but let's just say that it has been a very dark few years for everyone and that includes me. It has gotten better over the years, but it still lingers. But I should get the crash course out of the way:
As of right now, a majority of Earth's countries are unable to support life because of the constant rain of nuclear bombs that scorched the soil, dried up almost all sources of water, and causing the extinction of a majority of the animals…well, the extinction of even more animals that is. And Canada wasn't doing so great either, where the Eastern provinces were scorched off of the face of the Earth. Because of this, every remaining country is fighting for land, supplies, or to just take out their enemies. But in the case of an attack, the remaining Northern government has got an old underground shelter that was built in the early nineties back in order. Apparently, it has a steady amount of food, water, and other supplies; not only that, its supposed to last at least hundreds of years. We don't have an official name for the shelter, but we call it "Eden", named after the same garden from Adam and Eve in the Bible.
But with a good majority of the planet gone to hell, chances are that we'll be stuck down there for more than just a hundreds years. Heck, a good majority of us will die of old age before then! But if I'm being honest, I'm not exactly keen on staying underground in an even more cramped space for the rest of my life…but, I guess thats how things are now…
Getting off that topic, currently I was with my friend, Carson and we started our conversation with the occasional "How are you doing?" or "anything new?, then we talked about what came to mind. On another topic, do any of you know what a "ladies man" is? Well, Carson is pretty much not all of that, as he always seems to get a potential partner…only for them to break up soon after Carson tried to get serious in a relationship.
"Man…I can't believe I lost another one." Carson said in a disappointed tone, trying to get over his most recent break up.
I believe her name was Jenny…or was it Jennifer? To be honest, I stopped keeping track of their names, knowing that they weren't going to be with him for long. But what I do know that this was his twenty-fifth break-up in the span of three months. If the Guinness World Records were still around, he would have the record for most break-ups. Then again, this was the longest anyone has been with him…an entire week!
"I really wouldn't let it get to you. Relationships are really nothing more than a trap really." I said. "You get into one, then you can never get out without revealing your true self. In my case, I'm a sarcastic and witty asshole. But in your case, you're a simp."
"It's not all that bad man. It's just nice to have that kind of connection. It makes you feel as if you have someone to go through life with. It just feels nice to know that you're not alone in this, you know?" Carson defended.
"Well, if we go by Carson logic, you just went through at least twenty-five lives. And that does not include the ones that you're bound to pick up some time in the future." I said.
"Damn…that was cold man." Carson said. "Do you always have to be like that?"
"Yeah, but being able to respond with sarcasm or wittiness within seconds of a remark is a sign of a healthy brain." I said. "Besides, you still stick around, don't you?"
"Yeah, it just feels good to have someone to talk to about this kinda stuff. Despite your method of talking is…blunt, you don't rat people out." Carson said.
"I don't see anything wrong with being honest." I said. "Not only do I not see the point in sugar coating things, it's also kinda fun poking fun at it."
"Well, what about your secret stash you keep under your bed?" Carson asked.
.
"…I'll take that secret to the grave." I muttered.
"Anyways, what about you? Have you set sights on anyone particular?" Carson asked.
"No, not really. I'm not that interested getting into a relationship." I said. "I've always been a one-man kind of guy."
"See, that's something I don't understand about you." Cason said "Why go through life alone, when you can't at least share a little bit of it with the people around you?"
I shrugged "I guess I've always prefer to be on my own, it's my own little happy place. Besides, this life is mine and I don't see the point of splitting it."
"You do realize that you sound like a selfish asshole right now, right?" Carson asked
"Probably." I said "Anyways, when's number twenty-six coming in?"
"You make it sound like its business." Carson said
"At this point, I can't really take any of this seriously anymore." I said
"And I was starting to question how you can't get a date." Carson said
"The reason I can't get a date is because I don't look for one, dumbass." I said
"Well that and your height. Girls tend to lie guys that are taller than them." Carson said with a smirk
"WELL THEY'RE MISSING OUT ANYWAYS!" I shouted
"Yeesh, you may be small, but you have a big mouth." Carson said
"Yeah, well, what else is new?" I asked
"Though I'm just messing with you. I'm sure there's someone in this god-forsaken universe we live in that's high over heels for you." Carson said with chuckle
"Damn straight…but don't get your hopes up." I said
"Still though, I thought I really had something there." Carson said
"Well. you know the old saying 'there's plenty of fish in the sea', right?" I asked "But you can't just keep throwing in your rod and reel up every single fish that takes a bite! I mean, one just clicks with you while others…not so much. But focus too much on one fish and you might just scare it off before you even had a chance with it."
"Yeah, I guess you're right." Carson agreed "Oh, do you want to go out of town? I've heard that they're doing a screening of The Thing at a drive-in. I was going to go out with Jennifer…but you know how that turned out."
"We can't get out of town, remember?" I said, motioning to the various squadron cars that were only mere feet away from us.
More explanations coming in…ever since this war started a few years ago, no one has been able to travel anywhere. With the constant fear of attacks from all sides, the remaining Northern Governments closed their boarders and built walls around any and all settlements; meaning no one is coming in or out. If anyone would try to leave, they would immediately be stopped and told by the various soldiers to turn back. If anyone tried to resist, they would be immediately be arrested or even worse, shot.
I do know that they're at least trying to protect us…despite their methods being a little extreme. But despite this lingering fear, we're still accepting refugees that come in almost every single week, making the cramped area even more cramped than it is! Then, there's the issue with food and other supplies. And with more and more refugees being accepted in our small town, we've barely been able to feed ourselves. I even had to skip meals for one-to-two times per day! I was able to endure it for a short while, but it has been three years and my patience is lacking enough as it is!
And with the ever-growing population, means that we needed more protection. So some of the refugees and some who had jobs outside of town had to quit their old jobs in order to help with daily patrols. I'm talking about patrolling the town's border, helping with supply runs, dealing with bandits, or serving the people who couldn't get back home for various reasons.
"Oh…" Carson said in a disappointed tone "I just really hope that his god-forsaken war ends soon! I can't stand being cramped in here for much longer!"
"Tell me about it." I said "But I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon."
"So, if we can't do that…what else do you want to do?" Carson asked
*RING* *RING* But just as I was about to respond, the sound of muffled music cut my train of thought off. Carson reached into his pocket , pulled out his phone, and answered it
"Hey, mom." Carson spoke into the phone "Hm?…Alright, I'll be home in just a bit…Love you too mom. See you soon." He said as he placed his phone back into his pocket. "Sorry, but my mom wants me back home by twelve to make lunch for everyone."
"It's alright." I reassured, knowing that he had seven other siblings. "But seriously, tell your mom that she needs a new hobby. One that doesn't involve a bed."
Carson chuckled "I'll be sure to tell her that."
"Well, see you around man." I said, as I waved to him
"Yeah, see you around." Carson said, as he waved back, hopped onto his bike and drove off into the sunset
With Carson gone and with nothing else to do, I decided that this would be the best time to head back home to my aunt and uncle's house before curfew. I didn't have a car or a bike as everything else we had was rather sold or left behind, considering we never really went anywhere. Buses were also a no-go as well because of how crowded they are. So, I shuffled my feet on the ground and began to make my way back home. But as I was walking, I couldn't help myself but think about what Carson and I were discussing about…not about the girl part. It seems like everyone is doing something these days.
I mean, I can't really do a lot to help around. I mean with school resuming again in a few days along with my own problems, helping out is almost next to impossible. But if I'm being honest, I don't like the feeling of being left out while others are trying their best to help out as much as they can. But every-time someone or even if I try to help out, the soldiers would rather tell us to "buzz off" or just brushed us and and told us to "enjoy ourselves"…pff as if!
A childhood with a constant loom of death and destruction over our heads! Yeah, how about we grab a soda, lay back and enjoy ourselves!?
With all sarcasm out of the way, there are multiple reasons why my hometown might be a potential target. It may not look like much, but Laval actually some of the best weapons our country has to offer…along with our best scientists, engineers, and medics. Now some of you may be thinking "why the hell would they put such important people in a small town like this!?". Well, not a lot of people expect there to be anyone of importance in a small town such as this. But that doesn't mean that they're impossible to locate, it's just really hard to find them. It's only a matter of time until some plane flies over us and drops a payload. But that won't happen for a while…right?
*BZZZZZZZ* But just as I was about to turn onto my street at "Gremory Avenue",I heard a feint buzzing sound coming from my left. I turned towards the source of the noise, seeing that the buzzing sound was coming from the speakers that were planted into the ground. But all they've done for the last several years is just stand around and collect dust. The only other times they were ever used was to announce curfew or any other announcement. I payed no mind to this and continued to make my way back home.
*BEEP* *BEEP* But just as I was going to continue to walk, the speakers let out a loud blaring alarm sound that immediately filled the area. In a matter of moments, the doors to some of the houses on the street I was on slammed open. Hordes of people from all races began to race out of their homes as fast as they could, carrying what little they had in their hands and arms. People were stumbling down their porches and onto the road where some tripped and fell by their own momentum, and dropped whatever they were trying to carry. But they picked themselves up soon after, continued to run in the opposite direction I was heading and leaving behind what they were carrying.
But just as I was about to ask what was going on, a voice finally came through the speakers "INCOMING WARHEADS! REPEAT, INCOMING WARHEADS! THIS IS NOT A DRILL! I REPEAT, THIS IS NOT A DRILL! PLEASE MAKE YOUR WAY TO EDEN IMMEDIATELY!"
.
When I heard those words, my heart sank all the way down to my shoes. At first, I didn't want to believe it, until I saw a squadron of planes fly over my head flying towards to where I was heading. I was probably in a state of shock that I could only mutter a few words "Oh shit…"
Instinctively, I turned myself around and was about to follow the horde of people to the shelter, but only stopped when I realized something. I turned back towards the street to see my neighbours coming from around the block where my house was, but I couldn't see my aunt or uncle. There's a chance that they were out of the house, but I can't risk leaving them if they'r even there!
Turning back towards where I was originally going, I ran down Gremory Avenue and turned the corner until I finally reached my house. I ran up the porch, slammed the door open and through my gasping breaths, I shouted to my relatives as loud as I possibly could "AUNT LANA! UNCLE LLOYLD! WHERE ARE YOU!?".
.
.
.
But after getting no response, I ran across the many rooms as fast as I could, almost slipping several times. For the last five minutes, I've been scrambling up and down the stairs, checking every room from the boiler room in the basement, to the master bedroom on the upper floor; but they weren't there. But just as I was about to rush through the kitchen and out the door once more, I saw a new sticky note on the fridge that had "Gone grocery shopping, will be back home by 1:00" written on it.
.
I have a feeling like someone is mocking me…But at least now I know that my aunt and uncle is in town somewhere and are on their way towards Eden. Quickly running out the door and down the porch, I ran back up Gremory Avenue and back towards the direction of town, where I can assume everyone was making their own way towards Eden. I began to pick up the pace, I ran faster than I have ever ran before back towards Laval. Despite my lungs being pushed to their absolute limits, despite every short and raspy breath escaping my mouth every second of not slowing down, I continued to run.
*BOOM* But at the sound of a sudden boom over my head, I stepped on my ankle instead of my foot and stumbled to the ground
"Ow…ow…ow…" I muttered to myself as I clenched my ankle with my hands.
I rolled onto my back in an effort to get back up and making myself face towards the sky. And what I saw could only be explained with one word: Armageddon. The once clear blue skies, was now a darkened orange colour, similar to magma or fire. The once pure white clouds were now mixed black and grey smoke, caused by the fumes or gunpowder emitted by the aircraft. And the birds that sung in rhythm above our heads were replaced with the sounds of cannon-fire and gunfire.
But in the middle of it all, were the silhouettes of planes and other aircrafts flying from the north and the south, with their silhouettes only being illuminated by the gunfire in the sky. But behind the planes that were coming from the south, was a much larger and wider aircraft. I could only assume an aircraft of that size was carrying something big, and I hope to God it isn't what I think it is!
My breathing started to escalate even more through each raspy breath. I quickly shuffled back onto my feet, ignoring the pain in my ankle and ran at the same pace towards Laval. But as I made my way back towards town, I saw that there was no one to be found. The playgrounds were empty, the sounds of children laughing were replaced with the sound of rattling chains from the swings. The voices of everyones chatter was no more, only the sound of gusts of winds remained. Laval was now a literal ghost-town, void of anything here and almost nothing to hear…heh rhyme. I guess by the time I made it to my house, Laval had already been evacuated…BUT THEY FORGOT SOMEONE!
I let out a small chuckle to myself "You know…they should have signs, directions for situations like this…" I muttered to myself, then turning my head towards the sky "ESPECIALLY FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS!"
"Excuse me?" A small voice said
"Huh?" I hummed to myself, as I turned around only to see no one there. But as I looked down, I saw a little that was probably no older than nine "The hel-heck are you doing out here kid!?" I asked, catching my swear.
I never swear in-front of a kid, it'll ruin their innocence…but it would be funny to hear a child say "shit" to their parents
"I-I'm looking for my mommy. Do you know where she is?" The little girl asked
So, she really is lost. This is really a bad time to get lost kid.
"No, I don't know where she is, but I think she's at Eden and I can take you there." I said as simply as I could "We're kinda running on a short schedule here." I muttered that last part to myself, noticing that the massive aircraft was getting closer to the town with every minute that passed.
"What do you mean? What's happening?" The little girl asked
How the hell doesn't she know!? Then again…it's probably better that she doesn't need to know, especially for someone her age. I'll just sugarcoat this, just this once…
"Something really bad is about to happen and we need to make sure that we're not in the way of that bad thing." I tired explaining as simply as I could
"W-What?" The little girl asked
Agh! There's no time for this!
"Look, just come with me. I'll take you to where your mommy is, alright?" I asked
"Really!? Thank you so much mister!" The little girl said as she ran to hug my leg
Okay, that seemed to do the trick. But, I don't even know if this girl's mother is even at Eden. But what I do know is that I have to get her out of here and fast!
"Alright, up and at 'em, we need to keep moving." I said, as I picked the girl up by under her arms and placed her on my shoulders
"Wee! It's so high up!" The little girl shouted
Heh, I guess it's a good thing that she's able to keep her free-spirits and all that.
As I placed the little girl on my shoulders, I looked around town for any sign of a trail where everyone went. Looking towards the ground, I saw a trail of tire tracks and footprints heading towards a single direction, presumably heading straight where Eden is. Trails and footprints, they always lead somewhere!
"Let's get moving." I said, grabbing onto the little girl's legs to keep her from falling off and started to run after the tracks
"Whoa! So fast!" The little girl said
Heh, calling me tall in a sense and calling me fast, I like this kid already!
Running past the playground and the buildings that made up Laval, I followed the trail that was left behind by the considerate people of Laval…even though it may or may not have been unintentional! Eventually after five minutes of near non-stop running, we made it towards the outskirts of town and saw a line of cars in the distance, implying that we were heading in the right direction. That reminds me…
"Hey, kid, what's your name?" I asked "It seems kinda rude if I just keep calling you 'kid'."
"Alice." The newly named Alice said "What's yours mister?"
"Christian." I introduced "Christian Pendragon."
"Your name is weird, but it's still nice to meet you mister!" Alice said
Well…that stung a little. Then again, at least it isn't a remark about my height.
I chuckled "Yeah, I get that a lot. Apparently, my last name came from The Sword in The Stone"
"What's that?" Alice asked curiously
"It's a really old fairy tale." I said
"Can you tell me what it's about?" Alice asked
Well, I guess telling her the story would be a good way to pass the time…and something to focus behinds the bombs…
"Well…before any of us were born, the land we're standing on was dark and treacherous." I said
Well, it's still is…
"It's people were divided, brother fighting brother, and friend fighting friend." I said
"B-But why would they fight?" Alice asked
…Who knows anymore.
"I'm…not sure." I said "Anyways, the only hope for peace was in the legend of the sword known as Excalibur. For it was said that only the one true king could pull this magical sword from it's stone…and unite the people. Many have tried to pull the sword from its resting place, but all have failed. But then one day a little boy stepped forth and pulled Excalibur from the stone. This boy, was Arthur Pendragon."
Yep, my aunt named me after a legendary king.
"Whoa…" Alice said in astonishment
"And with the sword at his side, he led the people out of the darkness and together, the greatest kingdom was built: Camelot. My aunt and I love that story. She used to read it to me when I was little before going to bed." I said
"Your auntie?" Alice asked "What about your mommy?"
"I…never really got to know her." I said in a saddened tone. "She passed away when I was young. So, my aunt and uncle took me in and raised me."
"Okay…where is you uncle and auntie?" Alice asked
"Well, I hope that both of them are safe at the shelter." I said
"What about your daddy?" Alice asked
My face soured at the word. I quickly ducked my head down to prevent the little girl from noticing. "I…really don't like talking about him."
"Why not?" Alice asked
"Look, it's not something I like to talk about. So, please drop it." I said
"…You don't have a daddy either, do you?" Alice asked
"You sure are a nosey one, aren't you?" I asked 'Then again, I can't really blame a child's curiosity'
"That's okay, I don't have a daddy as well." Alice said
"Wait, what?" I asked
"My daddy left when I was really young. My mommy doesn't like to talk about it, but I would like to meet him someday!" Alice said
"Why? He left you, didn't he? He obviously doesn't care about you." I said
.
.
Christian, Christian, Christian…this is one of those moments where you do need to shut up.
"I don't believe that. Maybe he just had to go to keep me and my mommy safe." Alice said
"Well, I hate to be that guy, but it's just my aunt, my uncle, and I." I said
"Oh! Sorry!" Alice apologized
"It's alright…besides, I never had any desire to see that old bas-jerk!" I said, catching my swear once more "He left me because he hates me. So I don't care where he is or what he does, as long as he stays as far away from me as he can."
"…Do you really believe that mister?" Alice asked
"Yeah, I do." I said "So, what?"
"What if he was trying to keep you and your family safe?" Alice asked
"He wasn't." I said "Even if it that was the case, that is not a good way of showing it. Besides from what my aunt and uncle told me, he couldn't even look at me."
Wait, why am I telling her all of this?
"We all do weird things under stress. I do, mommy does, we all do. But those weird things don't make us bad, right?" Alice asked "We all make mistakes."
…Is this kid really nine!?
"How old are you, Alice?" I asked
"Um…" Alice began, counting her fingers "Eight."
E-Eight!? Like hell you are!
"R-Right." I said
"What if you met your daddy? What would you say to him?" Alice asked
"I wouldn't say sh-crap to him." I said, catching a third swear "I would just start punching him in the face."
"That's not very nice." Alice said
"Well, he wasn't exactly very nice when he left me, my uncle, and my aunt." I said
"But if what if he explained everything to you?" Alice asked "What if he said that he made a mistake?
That's…actually a good question…what if he did? The reason I know what my father said about me was because my aunt and uncle told me. They told me that he blamed me for what happened to my mom…but if he comes back, and tries to make things right…what should I do?
"I-I'm…not sure." I said
"Well, maybe you should give him a chance! I'm sure that he's a nice man! I mean, you're nice enough to take me to my mommy!" Alice said
"Heh, you're a good kid. Don't loose that mentality, okay?" I said
"I don't understand mister." Alice said
"Don't worry about it, we're already here." I said, as I slowed down as we approached a small pod-like contraption with a control panel to the left of it.
Reaching my arms over my head, I cupped my hands under Alice's arms, lifted her off of my shoulders and placed her on the ground "Alright…now all we have to do is-!" I began, only to stop myself as I read what was displaying on the control panel
Capacity: 587,923
Limit: 587, 924
Are. You. Fucking, Kidding. Me!?
"What's wrong mister? Are you okay?" Alice asked with concern
Crap! She must've noticed my distressed look!
"W-What? Oh, yeah, I'm fine. Everything is alright." I stumbled
Oh who am I kidding! Everything is NOT alright! There's only room for one more person, and there's two of us! Couldn't have they made room for one more person!?
"M-Mister! Where's my mommy? Isn't she supposed to be here?" Alice asked
"Y-Yeah, she should be…" I said, turning around towards the sky to see that the massive bomber was now several hundred feet away.
I looked back towards the pod and stood in silence to think…
We can try o make a break for it…but there is no way in hell we can outrun the blast radius of a nuke! The pod only has enough room for one more person and we can't squeeze two people in at once! Even if there is another pod or even another shelter nearby, I don't know how far it is and I don't see any tracks that lead beyond this point!
.
.
I looked down at my hand, letting out a long and heavy sigh. I knew what I had to do "Hey…Alice?"
"Yes mister?" Alice asked
.
"You're a good kid. Stay that way for me, okay?" I asked
"M-Mister?" Alice said
But before Alice could question me further, I placed my hands behind her back and shoved her into the pod. Quickly grabbing the doors of the pod with my hands, I forcibly closed them behind her.
There's no turning back now, I've made up my mind.
"M-Mister!?" Alice yelled out through the pod "Get in! What about the bad thing!?"
I didn't respond to her pleas, I was just desperately trying figure out how the damn thing even works! All I could do was to shift my finger up and down the control panel and quickly scan my eyes over the buttons for the right one to press!
"Ugh! They could've at least made these simpler to use!" I shouted at myself
"M-Mister! W-What are you doing!? Why did you close the doors!? You need to get in!" Alice pleaded through the pod
"I'm sorry about this Alice, but only one of us will be making it down." I said, continuing to shift my finger up and down the pod's control panel
'Okay, I think you just need to press this button and…" I mentally trailed off, as I pressed a small green button at the bottom of the panel
*CLANK* Sure enough, a loud cranking sound could be heard coming from the pod. With the pod's mechanism now activated, the pod itself slowly began to descend underground as the floor's panels started to close
"Alice, listen to me! You've got a bright future ahead of you, more so than I do! Once you get down there, look for your mom." I said, putting two fingers to my eyebrows in a form of goodbye "See you on the flipside, Alice."
As soon as those final words left my mouth, the panels door completely closed shut…leaving me out here and leaving Alice in Eden. With everything that has happened, my legs finally gave in after the constant running and with nothing left; I sat down on the ground and leaned my back against the machine that once held the pod. I lifted my head towards the orange sky, where I saw only one lone aircraft remained airborne, the bomber. And even from here, could see the bomber's hanger doors open…they were now ready to drop them.
I couldn't help myself but to cry at this very moment, I was going to kick the bucket after-all. So, I leaned the back of my head against the machine and began some of the best memories I can remember…
Seven years old, when my aunt first told me about the Sword in the Stone…
Eight years old, when I first played in the snow…
Nine years old, when I first rode a bike…
Ten years old, when my uncle first brought our dogs, Archie and Sadie home…
Eleven years old, when I first made a home run in Little League Baseball…
Twelve years old, when we first travelled to Disneyworld…
Thirteen years old, when I first said "shit" in-front of my grandparents…that was quite the day…
Fourteen years old, when I got my first phone with my grandfather's music…
Fifteen years old, when I got enough money to buy my aunt a crystal flower…
Sixteen years old, the one that I treasured most of all: When my grandmother gave me her locket…
Even though my life was short compared to some others, it was a good life. The last three years were rough, there were a few moments that I enjoyed. And in the end, I did something that I never expected for me to do…to actually help someone out. Even if it did cost me severely, that's alright, I've already made my decision.
"I'm alright with this. Be good Alice, be better than me…" I said, as I closed my eyes and accepting what was about to happen
Soon after, I felt the very ground tremble, implying that they dropped the bombs, struck the ground and had detonatd. Even from where I was, I could feel the heat emitted by the bomb starting to burn my skin…until it felt numb. The pain I had felt was only minor, until I felt nothing at all. And the last thing I saw through my eyelids, was a bright light that was getting bigger and brighter as I felt my consciousness slip away. But before my consciousness fully slipped away, I could hear some kind of voice calling out to me…one that sounded like it came from an angel.
"You're going to be alright." A Female voice said
Then, nothingness…
(Present Day) Saturday, 2:50 PM |August 29, 20XX | Unknown | (My POV)
And after that, I woke up here…in this empty void of nothingness. When I first arrived, I tired to see if there was anyone else around me that could help or even possibly explain what was going on. But after calling out for a solid twenty minutes and getting nothing, I tried to see if I could move my body…and thankfully, I was able to. And of course, that leads us to where I am now. The only thing I could do were flips and swing my arms and legs around, like I'm in some sort of Tom Cruise action movie. But after doing that for five minutes, I just gave up, curled up into a ball and processed the events that had just unfolded.
I couldn't believe it, everyone and everything I knew was gone, taken from me in just a matter of seconds. My family…my friends…everything is gone…
"But…I guess it was bound to happen eventually." I said to myself "Though, out of all things we could've done to kill ourselves off, we had to choose the most painful and destructive way to go. On another note…did Alice find her mother?"
.
.
"Maybe…I never liked thinking about these kinds of things too hard. More questions just keep popping up." I said "What about my aunt and uncle? I hope they made it to the shelters in one piece…"
.
.
"Ugh! Damn it, this is exactly why I never liked thinking about this kind of stuff! It makes you a depressed mess." I said, burying my head into my hands "Still, it's not hard to think about it, it, I mean…what else can I even do!? If anything is going to happen, give me a sign!"
As those words left my mouth, a sudden white light flashed in the distance in some form of wormhole.
"What the hell?" I muttered to myself as I looked towards the shining light in the distance "Is…that the gateway to heaven? Or…is this reincarnAAAAAAA-!?" I tried to finish, but cut myself off when I stopped floating and fell to the void's…uh…"ground" with a loud thud.
"Ow…" I groaned out, as I rolled onto my stomach, held my back in pain and slowly pushed myself off of the ground "Jeez, a little warning could be nice!" I yelled out, as I fully got back up
But as I shuffled my feet across the voids "ground", if you can really call is that…felt incredibly off. As mentioned, before the light appeared, there was nothing but black all around me; so it looked like I was walking on thin air. But every time I took a step, the ground created small ripples, almost as if I was walking through a shallow puddle.
Okay…this is kinda freaky.
I looked back towards the light in the distance "So…I'm assuming that this is the way to the great beyond? Or is it the reincarnation theory, where once I walk into that light, I'll be born as someone else without any memories of my past life…so, which one is it?"
.
.
"So, it's either this or that. Great I absolutely LOVE these kind of surprises!" I said in a sarcastic tone
At first, I felt hesitant to go towards the light, considering I didn't know what was going to happen once I walked through it. But in a way…call me crazy, it felt like the light itself as calling me. Not only that, unlike the heat that was emitted by the blast, this light was giving off a more welcoming, soothing kind of heat…almost as if you're sitting in a hot bath. Usually if something is compelling you to go towards the light, that's probably not a good sign.
.
.
"You know what…I have nothing else to lose anyway!" I muttered to myself, as I shuffled my feet towards the light which got brighter with every step I took, forcing me to shield my eyes "Jesus! Why does the passage to…wherever have to be so god damn bright!?"
With no one in sight and somewhat full of fright, I steadily made my way towards the bright light. Where everything may or may not turn out alright.
"Huh…all of that rhymed as well." I muttered to myself
.
.
"Wow…I must be incredibly bored! Let's just hurry this up!" I said to myself, as I walked even closer to the light "Well…here's to hoping that this is the way to the afterlife and hopefully I won't see any of my friends of family in there. It'll at least give me some comfort that they made it."
Eventually, I started to walk into the light itself and slowly began to fade away. With every step I made, I could see faintly see my surroundings. At first, all I could see were the feint colours of what appeared to be green and brown, and tiny white dots. Not only that, I could feel something tickling the side of my face. As my eyesight adjusted to its new surroundings, I could clearly see that I was in…a…forest? The feint colours of green and brown I saw were trees, the white dots I saw were stars, and the things that were tickling my face, were blades of grass.
"Okay…not what I was expecting" I muttered to myself, as I slowly picked myself off of the ground, only to feel a burning sensation in my side "GAH!?" I yelled out as I clenched my side.
Okay, that hurt…that really fucking hurt!
Still holding my side in pain, I go back up as slowly as I could. As I eventually stumbled to my feet, I took in my current surroundings. To the right of me was a fairly sized pond that could be found on a golf course. And surrounding the area I was in were a series of trees that varied different shapes and sizes.
"Is this heaven?" I asked myself "No, if I really was in heaven, then I would be standing on clouds and not grass. Then again…we don't actually even know what heaven looks like."
.
.
"Wait…what if everything that just happened, was nothing more than a dream? I mean, it's the only explanation that makes sense, right? But, then how did I end up all the way out here?" I asked myself
Thinking that I might've been kidnapped or possibly robbed, my arms scrambled towards my pockets until I felt two bulges in my left pocket. Quickly using my left hand, I reached into my pocket and pulled out two items which were my wallet and my phone. Opening my wallet, I saw that everything from my cards to all of my dollars bills were still left in there. But…that doesn't make any sense. Unless…
"Maybe this is one of Carson's pranks?" I asked myself
Quickly unlocking my phone and dialling Carson's number, I brought my phone up to my ear and waited for him to pick up. But after ten seconds with no response, I bought my phone down to see "Call Failed" on screen.
…Carson forgot to pay his phone bill again, didn't he?
My next option was to call my aunt and uncle to let them know where I am and that is a call I'm not looking forward too! But then again, it's better than being stuck out here. Dialling my aunt and uncle's number, I brought the phone up to my ear and waited for someone to pick up. But as before, the message "Call Failed" flashed onscreen. I glanced towards the top right of my phone, only to see that I had no signal, so even data is useless!
So, wherever the hell I was, I'm way too far from any nearby settlement. My next option was to scream at the top of my lungs, hoping that someone or anyone could hear me. But then again, I might be attracting wolves or other predators out here, so that option was off the list. Everything here doesn't add up, who kidnaps a person…only to be dumped off afterwards and leave his phone and wallet?
I tried to remember what happened beforehand, but my mind always trailed back to the blast. But that doesn't make any sense, if I really was blown up, then I shouldn't be here! Not only that, everything from the touch of metal to the heat of the blast burning my skin…felt real.
I sighed, closing my eyes, brought up my right hand to pinch my temples and shook my head "What the hell is going on?" I muttered to myself. But as I opened my eyes and lowered my right arm, there was a massive shape on the back of my hand.
"SHIT!" I shouted, trying to shake the creature off of my hand. When that didn't work, I got on my knees and slammed the back of my hand onto the grass in an effort to crush it. "GET OFF! GET OFF! GET OFF! GET OFF!" I shouted as I desperately tried to get what it was off.
But whatever was on my hand still kept its grip, so out of desperation, I shot my hand towards the pond and tried to drown whatever was on my hand.
.
.
.
But after several seconds, I realized something. The thing, the creature that was on my arm wasn't squirming, no signs of splashing, heck there were no air bubbles coming from it either. Not only that, the thing on my arm wasn't hurting me and call me crazy, I swear I could feel hints of metal on it. So if this thing on my arm isn't a creature, then what is it?
I took in a deep breath, as I slowly lifted my shaking hand out of the water and giving me a proper look at what was on my hand. Whatever it was on my hand, wasn't a creature…but it was some sort of blue gauntlet that covered the top of my hand. It had a large red jewel that glistened traces of light and two golden spikes at the side.
"What…the hell!?" I said in shock, as I twisted and turned my arm to inspect the gadget on my hand. But despite it being attached to my hand, there were no signs of brace or even a belt that held it in place. But as I was inspecting it, the moons reflection caught my eye…what I wasn't expecting however was for half of the moon to be shattered. Thinking that I might've been hallucinating, I rubbed rubbed my eyes and turned around to face the moon, only to get met with the same sight.
D-Did it really escalate like this!? Did they really have to go after the fucking moon of all things!? Do they even know what that would do to us!? Actually…why do I sound surprised at this point? But it does remind me of a show I watched. Looking back at the gauntlet on my hand, I didn't know what it was or who put it on me. But what I do know that it has to come off, NOW!
Using my left arm to grab the back of te gauntlet, I began to pull with all of my might in an attempt to pry it off, but it wouldn't budge. I began to pull harder and harder, but as I did, it felt like I was pulling my own arm off as well! But I didn't care, it might've been another bomb and I refuse to get blown up a second time, even though the first time was in a dream! As I continued to try to pry the gauntlet off with my left hand, I clenched my right hand in the form of a fist where something from the gauntlet shot out from where the knuckles were.
The sudden flash of something shooting out made me stop and stumble a little. What came out from the knuckle area of the gauntlet, was some sort of silver blade with a blueish-red engraving on it.
…Okay, so I guess it's not a bomb.
Out of options, I sighed in defeat as I sat down and laid down against one of the many trees. I lifted my head towards the night sky, staring towards the shattered moon. Probably for the first time, I didn't know what to do. I couldn't get a hold of anyone or couldn't see any form tracks or a trail to follow. It was a miracle that I was stating calm…aside when I was trying to shake the gauntlet off of my arm.
I was probably sitting there for at least ten minutes, before finally realizing that the sooner I get up, the sooner I'd probably reach some sort of settlement. But traveling around alone in the dark is usually the worse idea that anyone could imagine. But hey, at least I have the gauntlet to protect myself with. So it's not all that bad.
"GRRRRRR…" But as I slowly got back up from the ground, I suddenly heard a very low growl coming from behind me. I froze at the sudden sound and slowly turned around to see a very large wolf in the shadows of the tree-line.
O-Okay…then…it's j-just a wolf…a v-very large wolf….t-there's nothing to be scared of…
But as the wolf slowly made it's way out of the tree's shadow, the moon's light shone down one it, revealing its true form as it stood up on its hind legs. My heart immediately sank down at the realization what it was. The wolf's form was extremely muscular and had a slight slouch to it. it had a bone-like mask with glowing red markings with matching blood-red eyes. It also had bone-like like protrusions from their arms, back, and knees. Their paws were also tipped with long, sharp, white claws and had an "aura" that reeked or pure despair. It was a Beowolf.
B-But that should be impossible!
My whole body suddenly began to shake uncontrollably at the sight of the large creature as it started to circle around me, almost as if it was trying to find an opening. I've read online that most predators would try to get behind their prey and pounce on them. So, as the Beowolf tried to get behind me, I made sure that I was still facing it. All of a sudden, the Beowulf lunged towards my direction with its claws reeled back and its jaws open.
By sheer instinct, I immediately ducked down just as it swung one of its claws, scraping the back of my shirt. Just as the he Beowolf was about to crash into the ground as it quickly spin its body mid-air and drove its claws into the ground to slow its momentum. Using what little time I had, I started to run as fast and as far away from the Beowolf as I could. But even with my head start, I could hear the crunching of leaves and sticks coming from right behind me, and the sounds were coming even closer with each second that passed.
'Don't look back! Don't look back! Don't look back!' I thought to myself, as I suddenly looked back at the Beowolf, who was now mere feet away from me. 'I SAID DON'T LOOK BACK YOU DUMBSHIT!'
But as my focus was solely on the Beowulf, I felt something snag at me feet, causing me to trip and fall onto the ground. I quickly turned over to my back as fast as I could in an attempt to get back up, only to be met face to face with the Beowolf who tucked in its hind legs and pounced with its claws bared. On insticnt, I closed my eyes and brought my arms up, bracing for what was going to come…
.
.
But, it never came.
Instead of being torn to shreds…there was a sudden painful howl just over my head. Confused, I slowly opened my eyes to see that I had accidentally stabbed the Beowolf through its chest when I rose up my arms to defend myself while the gauntlet's sword was unsheathed! The Beowolf's black blood slowly began to travel down the blade, dripping onto the ground and causing the very grass to wither.
"Heh…ha…heh he…that…was close…" I wheezed out
But before I was able to calm down, one of the Beowolf's eyes started to move again…it was still alive! I quickly locked my right arm into place, with it being the only thing that was preventing me from getting eaten. The Beowolf began to snap its jaws towards my head, as saliva drooled from its fangs. It then started to swipe its front claws back and forth, barely missing my chest with each swipe. I suddenly felt an excruciating pain from my left abdomen that felt like someone was driving a knife in my stomach. I yelled out in pain as I saw that the Beowolf was driving his claws on its hind leg's deeper into my abodmen, splattering a nearby rock with a coat of blood.
"G-GET OFF!" I desperately shouted, trying to use what strength I had to push the beast off
Due to the constant pressure, my arm started to shake, eventually starting to buckle in on itself. The Beowolf suddenly began to snap its jaws faster and harder than it did before. The sharp pain in my abdomen became even worse than it did before, making myself cry out once more as the creature drove its hind claws deeper into my abdomen.
"GET OFF!" I cried out once more, putting even more force to push the Beowolf off of me, but to no avail.
The Beowolf suddenly brought one of its front arms towards by stomach area and drove its claws deep into my stomach area, making me cough out blood. I could feel myself feel becoming weaker by the second, and I could feel my consciousness slip away as my vision slowly started to blur. I was ready to die before! But now I changed my mind!
"I SAID…" I shouted. But unknown to me, the red jewel in the gauntlet began to glow a violent blood-red colour. The jewel was glowing brighter and brighter by the second. With the remaining strength I had, I pushed my right arm up as hard as I could…only for something unexpected to happen "GET OOFFFFFF!" I shouted at the top of my lungs.
Then to my surprise, the gauntlet on my arm fired ball of crimson energy from its palm, blasting the Beowolf in half and reducing it to ash…
.
.
I don't know if it was due to the blood loss or exhaustion, but I started to breathe heavier than I did before, shocked at what just happened
"What…the…fu-…" Was the last thing I've said before loosing consciousness…
(Timeskip), Beacon Infirmary | August 29, 20XX | (My POV)
I could feel myself regaining consciousness once more. Unlike the forest ground, I felt like I was lying down against something soft. But there was also this sharp pain in my right arm, like someone drove a needle into it. As I slowly opened my eyes, I slowly regained my vision as they adjusted to their new surroundings. At first, all I could see was nothing but along with the movement of spinning "blades". Eventually, my eyes finally adjusted to their surroundings, taking in on where exactly I was. The white I saw were actually ceiling panels, and the spinning blades I've mentioned were the spinning blades from a ceiling fan. And the softness I was laying on was from a bed.
"Okay…not was I was expecting. But then again, its better than being six feet underground." I muttered to myself
I slowly rose out of the bed, to take in more of my surroundings. To the left of me was a small bedside table and on-top of it was a small vase with various kinds of flowers ranging from roses to nightshades. Even further to the left of it, there was a door rim.
I tilted my head to the side to see what was beyond of the door rim, only to see a toilet out of the corner of my eye. I can presume that was some sort of bathroom. Right in front of my direction, was a large white door with a semi-golden/yellow doorknob. To the right of my bed was a rather large window that was being covered by an equally large green curtain. Standing farther away from the window and closer to the bed, was a metal pole that had an IV bag hooked onto it. And dangling from the IV bag, was a tube that was taped to my right arm, where I saw a needle driven into it. Wherever I was, I can presume that I was in some sort of hospital.
'We'll, that does explain the pain on my arm…' I thought to myself '…Wait!'
I whipped my head back towards my right arm, expecting to see the gauntlet still attached, but it wasn't there. I tried to pull the gauntlet off of my arm, but I couldn't even get it off before, did they perform surgery on me? I twisted and turned my arm to see if there were any sign of stitches, scars, or any implication if someone really did perform surgery, but there was nothing. Next I looked down to see that I was wearing a hospital gown, not paying mind to this, I lifted it up to see if there were any signs of claws marks from the previous night…but like my arm, there were no signs of anything.
I sighed in relief as I laid back down on the hospital bed "So everything…was really nothing more than a dream…a dream inside of a dream."
But…everything from the heat of the blast, to the smells all around me, to the Beowolf's claws sinking into my stomach…it all felt too real for it to be a dream.
Maybe the reincarnation was correct afterall? There's only one way to find out!
I shook my head, as I lifted the covers off of me and got up from the bed. But as my feet touched the ground, I was suddenly met with a burning pain in my legs. "GAH!?" I shouted in pain, as I fell to the floor "Okay, that hurt. That really fucking hurt!".
Grabbing the metal pole with my left hand, I used it to help pull myself off of the floor. The using it as a walking stick, I dragged myself towards the supposed bathroom and immediately looked into the mirror. I could see that my face didn't change in the slightest.
"Good, I kinda like this face. Besides, I can't imagine myself looking different" I said to myself
So, I guess reincarnation is out the window. Then again, if this really was reincarnation…then I would be smaller than I am now. Not only that, I would be in someone's arms and I wouldn't be having these thoughts or even my memories for that matter. Maybe…everything really was a dream.
.
.
But, then why am I in a hospital? I don't remember doing anything stupid that would make me end up here…
I tried to remember what had occurred the day prior, but just like in my dream…my mind always trailed back towards the blast. I can assume that Beowolf portion of my dream, but the blast…I'm not so sure anymore. Maybe I did actually survive…actually, that doesn't really make any sense. But it's the only thing I could possibly think of! I've already checked my body for any form of injuries, but there were none. The gauntlet that I had difficulty prying off is nowhere to be found!
"Okay, what the hell is going on!?" I shouted to myself
I then turned towards a single closed door, which I presume will lead me into the main hallway of the hospital.
I guess it's time to get some answers.
Still using the metal pole as a walking cane, I stumbled across the room until I could properly stand. But as I reached my arm towards the door know, I jiggled it and the doorknob wouldn't turn. I continued to jiggle the knob several more times, despite now knowing it was locked until I gave up.
Am I in quarantine in something?
.
No…at least I don't think so. If that was the case, then there wouldn't be a window with a curtain covering it. Then again, I do appreciate the privacy. But there was still one question I would like to get answered, and I may find it by pulling back the curtains.
"Where am I?" I asked myself, as I rolled back the curtains. Though what I saw, made me question the very state of my sanity itself.
In-front of me, was a very large academy, consisting of multiple buildings, presumably dormitories. The courtyard consisted of a large circular pond featured by a pathway and a garden of red trees. And in the middle of it, was a large statue featuring two figures, one male and one female respectively, standing on a rock outcropping. Both of them were dressed in some kind of robe with hoods over their heads. The male held a sword in his right hand, raised in a seemingly triumphant gesture. The younger female held a double-edged battle-axe in her left hand, looking off to the side in the distance. Below the two figures was a wolf-like monster looking in the same direction as the male.
But the most prominent feature of the area, was a single tall tower that reached past the clouds. The tower itself was surmounted by a number of green lights as well as an intricate clockwork mechanism consisting of many interlocking cogs and gears. What I saw was Beacon Academy, from the internet animated seres, RWBY.
I closed the curtains, then opened them again.
Closed.
Open.
Closed.
Open.
I did the same thing for several more seconds, but each time I did, I was met with the same sight as before. I slowly backed away from the window, and accidentally backed into the bed, shocked at what I was seeing. That would mean, that the Beowolf that attacked me wasn't in a dream, it was real! But that should be impossible! None of this should be real!
"M-Maybe this is some sort of simulation! T-That explains everything!" I suggested "M-Maybe they're just checking what kind of effects radiation has on me mentally!"
…Actually…that doesn't make me feel any better. Wait, how did they even know I watched the series!?
I reached both of my hand towards my face, expecting to grab ahold of VR googles, or something covering my eyes, but there was nothing there. I sighed as I looked around the room for any other signs that this wasn't real. Is this really is some kind of simulation, then that would mean that the ceiling may have microphones and wires, and the outside was probably nothing more than just a bunch of screens!
Using the metal pole, I lifted it and jabbed it into the ceiling, only for large amounts of dust to pour out and enter my lungs; putting me in a coughing ft.
"Okay…bad idea! Bad…idea!" I said in between coughs
Okay, now I doubt anyone would be able to head up there and place microphones…so that assumption is off the list. Next, I looked around the room for something light, but something with at least a bit of wight to throw out the window. Eventually, I settled on the vase full of flowers, grabbed it and…surprisingly, I was able to open the windows with ease.
"Huh…shouldn't the windows be locked or something?" I asked
But, I payed no attention to it. I prepared my aim and threw it out the window as hard as I could, expecting it to hit something, a wall or at least a solid surface. But the vase only continued its path I threw it on. As my eyes continued to follow where the vase was going to land, I realized that someone was crossing the courtyard
.
.
Oh, no…
"HEY! LOOK OU-!" I tired to warn/shouted out the window. But through sheer bad luck, the vase struck the poor guy on the head, immediately knocking the poor person out and fell to the ground.
"Oooo…" I cringed.
But just as I was about to close the curtains, I took notice on what the person was wearing. He was wearing a uniform that consisted of a black suit line with gold, accompanied by a blue vest and a white shirt with a red tie. I glanced to the left of him to see a small device in his hand, it looked like a scroll.
"Okay, seriously, what the hell is going on!?" I slightly shouted to myself
But before I could question anything else further, I was cut off from the sound of someone fiddling with the doorknob from the outside of the room. My first instinct was to hop back into the hospital bed and pretend that I'm still asleep…but I've already made such a mess from the dust in the ceiling to the missing vase that they would immediately know that I was awake! I immediately braced myself for whoever or whatever was on the other side of that door! But as the doors opened, there was a woman.
The woman had long, yellow-peach coloured hair that went past her shoulders. She had, amber-coloured eyes and a light tan complexion. She was wore a pair of google that rested on-top of her forehead and a light blue dress shirt with extensions that traveled down to her feet. Under that shirt was a multi-coloured flower patterned shirt. Along with it, she wore blank pants with matching rubber boots and gloves that went past her arms and legs.
Who the hell has peach-coloured hair these days!?
.
.
Okay, I guess a few people do. They can dye their hair too.
The woman turned and yelped in surprise, probably not expecting me to be awake and out of bed, causing her drop what she was carrying; including a tray of food.
Damn…I was getting hungry…and that looked great compared to the crap we ate back on Earth…
The woman then regained her composure and fixed her googles she wore on her forehead "I see that you're finally awake now, you were out for quite some time, young man." She said as she began to clean up the mess she just made.
"W-Who are you…and h-how long was I out for?" I asked, confused and shocked at the whole situation that was taking place.
"Oh, I'm sorry, where are my manners? My name is Thumbelina Peach and I'm the doctor who has been taking care of you. You were out for quite some time, I think it was about four days." She said, as she finished cleaning up the spilled food
"Oh, okay." I said. Then after several seconds widened with shock "Wait…FOUR DAYS!?
F-FOUR DAYS!? Are you telling me that I've been passed out for four days!?
"W-Where the hell am I!?" I slightly shouted
"Now, now. There's no need to be hostile. Let's just take a deep breath and calm down." Vanessa said in a calming tone as she placed the spilled food in a trashcan
Calm…down? CALM DOWN!? HOW IN THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO CALM DOWN!? I'VE JUST BEEN BLOWN UP, WOKE UP HERE, AND GOT NEARLY TORN TO SHREDS BY A GIANT SKELETON WOLF! I WANT ANSWERS! I SHOULD BE DEAD!
.
.
But…I highly doubt it that I would get some answers, screaming like a banshee. So, I took in a deep breath before speaking "If you answer the question…maybe I might calm down a bit."
"Alright, fair enough. You're in Beacon Academy's Medical District, young man." She said with a warm smile
.
.
"I'm sorry…what?" I asked in complete and utter shock
No, no, no! That cannot be right! It's just a web-series and nothing more!
"V-very funny. Now tell me where I EALLY am." I said
"I'm not joking, you're on Beacon Academy's campus." Peach said
.
.
In a state of panic, I quickly rushed to the bathroom that was in the room. "Calm down, calm down!" I muttered to myself as I turned the knob on the sink and splashed and handfull of water onto my face. "This is all some kind of joke! There's no way in hell you're on Remnant!" I tried to convince myself
"Young man! Are you alright!?" Vanessa asked
J-Just ignore her. Come on Christian, think! How exactly can you not prove that you're not in Remnant? Wait, she just came in, meaning there has to be some kind of door out of this simulation! There has to be an outline or something! I quickly rushed out of the bathroom and towards the curtains
"Young man! I don't think you should be out of bed so soon!" Peach said
She's not there! I'm just going crazy!
"I mean, the headmaster did find you with small injuries! You shouldn't be getting out of bed so soon!
Minor my ass! I literally got gutted like a fish!
She doesn't know what she's talking about! Just don't listen to her!
"He also said he found this mysterious weapons next to you, maybe you could tell us about it?" Peach asked
A weapon!? I don't even have a-…wait, the gauntlet!
.
.
Now you're starting to listen to her!
"Damn it" What the heel is happening!? I shouldn't be here! I should be dead!" I said a bit too loudly
"W-What do you mean?" Peach asked
You know what, screw it! I'm getting out of here!
"SHUT UP!" I shouted, as I ran past Peach and out of the room. But before I could make it past the door rim, the pain in my legs did not subside yet "GAH!?" I yelled as I fell to the floor
"Y-Young man!" Peach yelled out as she ran to my side
But before I could continue, I saw a small object fall from her pockets and rolled past me…a Dust crystal
"Young man? Are you aright?" I barely heard Vanessa ask
You know what…I'm sensing a slight sense of irony coming from this situation…and not the good kind! Now don't get me wrong, I like irony just as much as the nest person…but this is toon much, even for me. So, I did what any sane human being would do is said situation. I passed out right then and there on the hospital floor, hearing Vanessa's cries of concern as everything faded to black once more…
And, heres the first chapter I guess. As mentioned, this is my own adaptation of "Remnant's of Another World". I do highly recommend it that you should read The Quebecs original fanfiction, but keep in mind that he discontinued it. And before anyone asks any questions, the weapon in choice is inspired by a preexisting fictional weapon. As such, there will be references and callbacks to the series that the weapon is based off on. Which is why at the end of each chapter, I'll include a small trivia section for those who hadn't caught on those said references:
Trivia
- The underground shelter, Eden is named after the Garden of Eden from Adam and Eve
- "Gremory Avenue" is a callback to one of the three houses, The House of Gremory from High School DxD
- The "Forest Portion" of the chapter was partially inspired by one of my first stories on FanFiction on another account
- I want to leave a portion of the OC's backstory in mystery. To be more precise, I want to explore his trauma that was born when he was literally born. And to how the war affected him and his family. And I want to reveal everything after a certain event. I'm aiming after the events of Volume 5 but before the events of Volume 6.
- Peach's design was based on her fan-made appearance for JPDE
