Chapter 2: A Fool's Game
Observation and Analysis, the two things a shinobi must do if one finds themself in an unfamiliar situation. Search for underlying dangers, analyze one's surroundings for possible escape routes and most importantly, observe the unknown individuals walking in front of him. Such is the concept that lingers in Sasuke's mind as he walked through the empty hallway while following the steady pace of the two professors ahead of him.
'The structure of this academy doesn't reassemble any of those in the Elemental Nations' the Uchiha noted, as he observed the intricate arcs and pillars that littered the halls of Beacon, the school he found himself in. 'Even the building in the Land of Iron where the five Kage summit was held, is not as grand as this place' he mused to himself, as he steadily continued his walk, all the while not making a single sound unlike the two professors in front of him.
'Peculiar' Ozpin noted, as he observed how silent Sasuke's steps were, almost as if he's trained to be stealthy. Although, he's the one walking ahead with his gaze not placed at the raven-haired teen. His guard and observation skills still came into play, as he warily used his other senses to detect any hostile actions from the Uchiha, only to be relieved when he found none.
Still, Ozpin kept his guard up as he has no idea on what the teen's intentions were, in addition to his unknown origin and his stealthy nature. He is considered as a threat after all, a wildcard some may say that appeared out of nowhere, figurative and literally. So, until he could discern the intent of the teen, he is still categorized as a danger and must be treated like one, no more and no less.
After silently walking through the empty halls for quite a while, and riding the 'unnatural' contraption deemed by Sasuke. The two professors and the raven-haired shinobi finally reached the top of the tower where the headmaster's office is located.
Upon entering the said office, Sasuke discreetly looked around to observe interior of the room. 'A clock tower huh?' The Uchiha mused to himself, as his eyes glanced around the room. From thenumerous cogs littered on the walls, to the high windows surrounding the room, before finally landing on the giant clock like window at the far end, in front of a lone glass desk.
His mind immediately processed the multiple escape routes present to him, if both the professors were to try to anything against him. 'This room is huge enough for me to utilize most of my jutsus' Sasuke thought, as he kept his guard up while warily watching the two professors for any sign of hostility.
As Ozpin sat on his chair, Goodwitch followed him and stood at the left side of his desk, all the while not tearing her gaze away from the unknown teen. The headmaster then motioned for Sasuke to stand in front of his desk, to which the teen cautiously followed from his position near the elevator door.
"Now that we're here, I believe a more formal introduction would be appropriate. My name is Ozpin and I am the headmaster of this school and this is Glynda Goodwitch, one of the professors here" Ozpin started as he gestured towards his blonde companion who is currently glaring at the expressionless teen. "Your turn then, young man."
"I don't think that's necessary as you already knew my name" Sasuke bluntly argued in a monotonous tone, before narrowing his gaze at the grey-haired man in his desk.
Although, the shinobi was quite relieved to find someone who recognizes him, he still kept his guard high. After all, numerous people are after the Uchiha's powers and will do anything to gain it. So, who's to say that the headmaster in front of him is not one of those people.
Following the teen's reply, Ozpin merely raised an eyebrow, slightly confused at Sasuke's hostile tone. Glynda however, took it as an insult and was about to reprimand the Uchiha. But before she could, headmaster raised his hand to stop her, to which she reluctantly complied.
"Forgive me if I somehow offend you, Mr. Sasuke" Ozpin frowned slightly before continuing. "I knew your name because the entire arena is filled with cameras, a way for us to observe and document our student's capabilities. As such, earlier I was watching the duel between Mr. Arc and Mr. Winchester when you appeared out of nowhere and introduced yourself."
'I see, so that is how he knew me… still, how come the people here don't recognize my name. The Uchiha clan is one of leaf's most notorious shinobis, after all' Sasuke thought, lost in his own world as he tried to figure out where in the Elemental Nations he is and why does the people around him are ignorant to the weight of his name.
After a second of pondering, his eyes narrowed again as he recalled what the so-called Ozpin said earlier. 'He was watching' the Uchiha thought bitterly before clicking his tongue at the realization.
"I see… so you are one of those types. Gauging my skills at a safe distance, inside the confines of your room, while one of your professors is in danger. You were willing to bet her life in order to know your enemy" Sasuke coldly stated while glaring at Ozpin.
"I believe you misunderstood my statement, Mr. Sasuke" the headmaster started. "I already contacted two of my men that time and simply waited for their arrival in case you prove to be more troublesome. By no means I will allow any of my students or professors to be hurt yet alone be killed" Ozpin finished, as he leveled a stern glare towards the shinobi, more to express disapproval rather than anger.
Sasuke continued to return the headmaster's glare unflinchingly for a few seconds before scoffing. "Hn, big talk for someone playing king, wallowing on your throne while your pawns do the work. Your reassuring words mean nothing to me."
Manipulative and controlling, Sasuke absolutely despises these type of people, as they were the individuals who was responsible for his brother's pain. Kings who would use their pawns for their bidding. Kings who would choose the easy way out instead of finding a proper solution to the problem. Kings like Danzo, the old war hawk who ordered Itachi to slaughter his own clan.
Seeing another man similar to the old shinobi he killed, is more than enough to make Sasuke's temper flare. However, before his thoughts became darker than the shade of his hair, he was interrupted by the blond woman he fought earlier.
"I will not allow you to disrespect the headmaster anymore, young man!" The blonde shouted as she prepared her riding crop in her right hand. In response to the threat, Sasuke immediately activated his Sharingan and was about to reach for his sword, Kusanagi no Tsurugi but stopped when he heard the headmaster's voice.
"Professor Goodwitch, Mr. Sasuke please stand down and be civilized" Ozpin sternly said, as he glanced at the blonde before setting his gaze back at the shinobi. "But sir -" Goodwitch was about to protest but was once again stopped by the headmaster raising his hand. "Fine" she reluctantly complied, while gritting her teeth as she glared at the Uchiha.
'Annoying blonde' Sasuke thought, as he deactivated his Sharingan and tore his gaze away from the glaring woman before settling back on the headmaster.
"I understand your dislike towards certain authoritative figures, Mr. Sasuke but please understand our position" Ozpin calmly started, as he ignored the earlier insults of the teen. "You simply appeared out of nowhere without identification or background from any of the four kingdoms. It is only natural for us to be cautious at you and your abilities, as to why I gauged you."
The mention of the four kingdoms greatly surprised Sasuke, yet he didn't show it to avoid suspicion.
'Kingdoms? As far as I can tell, there are no kingdoms present at the Elemental Nations… unless they were hidden which I highly doubt. Kingdoms are far too large to be concealed. Moreover, the shinobis are masters of exploration and infiltration, as to why they will find it if such kingdoms exist' the Uchiha quietly pondered, succumbed in his own thoughts.
"Where am I?" Sasuke asked in a demanding tone, after snapping out of his pondering. The question seemed to slightly confuse the headmaster as he raised an eyebrow at the teen. "Beacon Academy" Ozpin stoically replied, while the shinobi narrowed his eyes at him to detect any lie, only to find none.
"And where is Beacon Academy?" he pushed another question, as he is itching to find where the hell the jutsu landed him. "Inside the Kingdom of Vale" Ozpin answered while giving him a curious glance, more and more confused at the teen's seemingly random questions.
'Kingdom of Vale? There's no such place present in the Elemental Nations. Could it be- "
"May I ask where did you come from Mr. Sasuke?" Ozpin asked, curiosity getting the better of him, interrupting the teen's thoughts. Fortunately, the Uchiha was prepared for the question as it only took a second for him to reply. "I came from a village outside the kingdoms" the shinobi lied. His reply seemed to pique more of Ozpin's interest as he asked "I see, what is the name of the village then?"
The raven-haired teen looked outside the window for a second before answering "Konohagakure no Sato." He then looked at Ozpin to see his reaction upon hearing his village's name. Alas, all was for naught as there wasn't a single recognition present on the headmaster's face.
'These people… how come they don't recognize the leaf?' Sasuke asked himself, frustrated yet showed no emotion on his façade. 'Is it possible that this is another dimension that houses humans? No, that can't be… it's simply impossible' he denied the thought, as he scoured his brain on where he is transported.
The notion that there is another dimension with humans is simply unbelievable to him. The only thing he could think of that's capable of such feats are the Ōtsutsukis, but they aren't even human to begin with. However, it is the only answer he could think of as to why these people doesn't recognize the leaf.
"Hmm, the village hidden in the leaves, interesting name I must say. Moreover, the language used in the name of your village, Old Mistralian, was considered to be long time dead. I must ask, is it the language the people in your village still use?" Ozpin questioned, which in turn caught Sasuke off guard albeit he didn't show it.
'Now that I think about it, how can I understand and even use the language they are using? Is this the work of the space time jutsu?' He asked himself with mild disbelief, questions after questions piling in his head. 'Also, he can understand the language we are using back at the Elemental Nations and referred to it as Old Mistralian. Is it possible that this Old Mistralian is an exact copy of the language we have back home?'
After snapping out of his thoughts, he nodded at the headmaster's question. Ozpin hummed as if in deep thought before stating "As much as I want to believe your story, there was no ever record of a village with that name in Mistral or even the whole Remnant." The headmaster paused before continuing "Care to explain why?"
'That settles it… this is not the Elemental Nations' Sasuke bitterly concluded. While he is reluctant to believe that there is another world capable of housing humans, it is the only plausible answer he could think of as to why they don't recognize his name, the leaf and any of the hidden villages.
Add that to the notion that there is no Mistral back home, only the Elemental Nations. Furthermore, his world is named Earth not Remnant. All of these facts lead him to the same conclusion, that he is indeed in another dimension, one that is similar to his own.
He will look more into this later but for now, he'll enlighten the old man's questions to avoid more suspicion for himself. Even if he needs to spin a web of lies, then so be it. After all, he is a shinobi and it's in their blood to lie and deceive.
"As the name implies, it is a village hidden in the leaves. There was no ever record of it because its existence is only known by us, the villagers" He lied, as he bore his visible eye into Ozpin's own to be more believable.
After all, there is no chance that he will tell them the existence of a jutsu that can be used to travel across multiple dimensions, nor that he came from a world similar yet different to where he is now. Such knowledge will be too unbelievable, not to mention dangerous if discovered by power hungry fools who would seek him and his powers for their benefit.
"Hmp, do you really expect us to believe that?" Goodwitch scoffed while glaring at him. Sasuke shot her a look before answering coolly "Believing me or not, matters very little to me."
Before the tension rise once again, Ozpin diffused the situation by asking him another question, one that intrigued him the most. "How is your village able to fend against the creatures of Grimm, Mr. Sasuke?" he started. "Although, villages outside the kingdoms are anything but new, only a few of them are able to survive before becoming overwhelmed by Grimm."
'Creatures of Grimm?' the Uchiha thought, confused and unfamiliar at the term behind his stoic facade. 'It must be some kind of monsters that resides in this world. One that is more than capable in killing humans' He quickly concluded, based from Ozpin's implications.
"Do not underestimate us" Sasuke paused slightly, as to contemplate what he will say before continuing. "The people from our village are neither weak nor helpless. We are more than capable in defending our village from the threat of any Grimm."
Although what he said is technically a lie, it was not far from the truth. After all, the shinobis from the leaf were able to defend the village from the Nine Tailed Fox, a being far greater than any Grimm. So, who's to say that such creatures would give them a hard time?
As his statement hanged in the air, Ozpin mused for a while before nodding. "Alright, I believe you Mr. Sasuke" the headmaster said, much to the blonde's disbelief. "You would really believe that lie, headmaster? A supposed hidden village?" Goodwitch argued, not at all buying what the teen said.
"I told you the truth" the Uchiha started, garnering the attention of the other two people inside the room. "As I said earlier, believing me or not, matters very little to me" he monotonously continued, ignoring the blonde's glare.
"And as much as I would like to keep it hidden from you, I have also no choice seeing as I'm the one who made this mess" he admitted. "However, I ask that everything I say inside this room remains inside, including the existence of my village."
The headmaster contemplated for a second before nodding. "Very well, I will respect your wish and your village's secrecy. To that you have my word" Ozpin agreed, much to the blonde's annoyance. "Now then, would you be so kind to tell us how were you able to come to Beacon by simply appearing out of the thin air?" he questioned, curious at the teen's ability.
The shinobi weighted his options, whether to lie about his ability or give them the half-truth, one that does not reveal the true nature of his jutsu. He then decided choose the latter as completely lying about his power would only yield more suspicion towards him. If he were to degrade his ability from dimension hopping into teleporting at a distance, then maybe it wouldn't place hounds at his behalf.
But then again, why does he care? After all, he will be gone by tomorrow morning to continue his search for the Ōtsutsukis. Would exploring the new world he is in, prove to be more beneficial to their village rather than tracking the looming threats? A question he will have to answer later.
"I was simply practicing another power of mine; it allows me to teleport at a distance. However, since I have no mastery over it yet, I miscalculated and found myself transported here" he half lied, half told them the truth.
Although he wasn't keen on admitting his mistake, using Amenominaka on a whim without studying it first, was indeed a foolish move. Because of that, he is now far from home. Inside an unknown world, similar yet different to his own. The only good side he could think of, is that he made the discovery of a lifetime.
Ozpin looked at him with a calculating gaze before nodding. While Goodwitch on the other hand, looked at the teen with evident suspicion. "That's quite a powerful skill, Mr. Sasuke" he complimented with genuine intrigue, snapping the teen from his musing. 'And quite similar to that of Raven Branwen's semblance' the headmaster noted.
"Another question, Mr. Sasuke" Ozpin started before pointing at his own eye. "Earlier, when I watched the live feed from the arena and even here in this room, your eye takes a drastic change when you're about to enter a combat. Now, I believe that change serves a purpose rather than mere display… Am I right?" he questioned, while the teen nodded in confirmation.
"Furthermore, you are able to use electricity, move faster than most huntsmen and huntresses, teleport at great distances and emit some kind of blue energy in your hand" the headmaster continued, as he recalled each of the skills shown by the teen. "It is quite unreal that you possess far too many abilities. As such, please enlighten us Mr. Sasuke, what exactly is your semblance?"
'Semblance?' the shinobi questioned himself, before remembering his earlier fight with Goodwitch. 'I see, these so-called semblances are the equivalent of jutsus in this world' he thought, as he settled his gaze towards the seemingly wary blonde. 'So that's what those purple energies are, it's her semblance.'
'However, based from his implication, it seems a person is limited in having only one semblance. As opposed to jutsus, which most shinobis have multitudes of' Sasuke mused, absorbed in his assumptions. 'Which means, it's more similar to kekkei genkais that are inherited, rather than jutsus which are learned' he placed the pieces together, before mentally clicking his tongue when he realized his mistake.
'I've shown them more than one ability… how problematic' the Uchiha thought, but lingered no more as he activated his clan's dōjutsu. 'I guess I'll have to improvise.'
Upon seeing the familiar eye, Goodwitch immediately tensed before glaring at Sasuke, more vigilant than before. Ozpin on the other hand, remained calm as he gazed at the teen's visible eye, curious of his semblance.
"This is my semblance, the Sharingan of the Uchiha Clan" Sasuke coolly stated, while looking at the two professors. 'The copy wheel eye' Ozpin thought, immediately connecting the dots in his mind on where the teen is heading.
"Pardon me for interrupting, Mr. Sasuke" the headmaster suddenly cut in, prompting the shinobi to stop, and garnering the attention of Goodwitch. "You said 'the Sharingan of the Uchiha Clan', so does that mean that your first name is actually Sasuke?" he asked, to which the teen nodded in confirmation.
"I see, forgive me if I seemed informal to you, Mr. Uchiha. I wasn't familiar in the way you introduced yourself; using your surname first before the actual forename" Ozpin admitted, before asking another question. "Is it the normal way of introduction in your village?"
Sasuke nodded to once again confirm, before mentally taking note of another difference between the two worlds. "I see, please continue then" the headmaster said, satisfied at the clarification.
"As I was saying, the Sharingan is my semblance. It allows me to perceive things faster than other people, as to why I can move quick" he started, before deactivating his kekkei genkai. "It also allows me to copy the semblance of other people that I had eye contact with."
"I can only carry three copied semblances at a time, which I can use for a week before completely disappearing. However, I can only use one copied semblance at a time, as using two will strain my body to the point where I can't move for an hour. Besides this, I can only use a copied semblance if my Sharingan is activated" he coolly explained, to which Ozpin nodded.
"The most notable downside of my semblance is that my eye will strain the longer I had it activated" he half lied; half told them the truth. Downplaying his Sharingan, while also leaving out his stronger abilities.
Furthermore, to support his lie about his ability, he once again coated his left hand with chakra before showing it to both professors. "This is a less refined version of your semblance, Goodwitch" Sasuke emotionlessly stated, while looking at the blonde.
Earlier, in their fight, Goodwitch never really noticed how similar his blue glowing hand is to her telekinesis, as to why she was bewildered upon seeing it up close. Unbeknownst that it is chakra, instead of a copied version of her semblance.
'It really does look like a less refined version of my semblance' she mused, adopting a thoughtful look. 'So, it is my semblance… the one he used earlier to knock out Mr. Winchester earlier. However, it is blue instead of being purple… it must be because of his aura's color' she assumed, none the wiser that she was fooled.
'Moreover, to be able to utilize a semblance he just copied, against me' Glynda thought, as her mind wandered back to their fight. 'Such control at a young age is quite terrifying. He is more dangerous than I originally thought' she mentally noted, while eyeing the Uchiha warily.
Meanwhile, Sasuke decided that he demonstrated long enough, removed the chakra coating before placing his left hand back at his side. He then returned his gaze towards the musing headmaster, patiently waiting for any further inquiry or instruction.
Fortunately, the shinobi didn't have to wait long, as it only took a second before the huntsman questioned him once more. "That teleportation skill you mentioned earlier, along with your electricity… it's safe to assume that they're both copied semblance, am I right?" he asked, to which the teen confirmed by nodding.
'Such powerful and versatile semblance you have, Mr. Uchiha.' Ozpin thought, while eyeing the emotionless teen with a calculating look. 'So young yet so experienced. Who are you really, young man?' He inquired no one but himself, as he knows that the teen is hiding something more. Which is why he decided to ask another question, one that's bugging him for quite a while now.
"May I know where did you get your combat prowess, Mr. Uchiha?" He inquired, much to Sasuke's annoyance. "As I said before, I watched your fight earlier. To be able to go toe to toe with an experienced huntress like Professor Goodwitch is no small feat, I must say" he continued, as he analyzed the expressionless teen standing in front of him.
"You are swift on your feet, quick to analyze and find the weak spot in your foe's defense. Your movements are that of an experienced fighter, one that is too advanced for your age. As to why I am curious on where did you get your experience, Mr. Uchiha" he finished, before looking straight at the shinobi's eye, eager for the teen's answer.
'He's sharp' Sasuke thought, before frowning. Knowing that he has to tread carefully, not to arouse more suspicion towards him. As to why, telling them that he's a trained shinobi is clearly out of the question. After all, admitting that he's a mercenary for hire, whose sole purpose is to kill others for a price, will only garner more hounds on his behalf.
But then again, why does he care? The same question popped inside his head for the second time today, which Sasuke dismissed once more. 'I will have all the time to answer that thought for later' he shortly mused, before spinning another web of lie for the headmaster to grasp.
"Because our village is outside the kingdoms, the threat of the Grimm to us are far greater. As to why, we had to adapt considerably in order to survive" he coolly started. "We were taught how to fight since we were kids, so that we can defend ourselves from Grimm."
Ozpin looked at the teen with evident pity before stating, "That was quite a difficult life, Mr. Uchiha. To be so young yet already facing such threat… I can't help but admire you, I must say." Goodwitch who was also listening to the shinobi, nodded her head at the headmaster's words.
'No children should face such a hard life' the blonde thought, while looking at Sasuke. Although she was still suspicious at the teen, she's not heartless as she can't help but sympathize at him for having to go through that. The thought of children fighting Grimm instead of enjoying their childhood, is nothing short but troubling.
Unbeknownst to her, Ozpin was having the same thought. 'Using children against Grimm… simply dreadful' he darkly mused, as he narrowed his eyes at his desk. Even though he could understand that the teen's village simply has no choice but accept such drastic measure for their survival, by no means he himself favors it.
As the Uchiha's lie hanged in the air, no words nor sound was heard inside the room. That is until the headmaster decided to break the silence once more, after a minute or two passed.
"Mr. Uchiha" Ozpin started, garnering the attention of both the teen and the blonde. "Due to your hostile actions earlier, which includes harming both a student and a professor, I'm afraid you are inclined to receive a serious punishment" Ozpin continued, as he gazed sternly at the expressionless Uchiha.
"However, I can bend the rules a little, if you happen to accept my proposal" Ozpin finished, earning a raised eyebrow from the Uchiha. "Headmaster, you can't be serious!" Goodwitch argued, disbelief evident on her face. Although she pitied the Uchiha earlier, by no means she would simply allow a dangerous and shady individual to be accepted in the school.
"I'm serious, Professor Goodwitch" Ozpin replied, as she looked towards the blonde. "Every time I look at this young man, I see wasted potential" he continued. "But- " the huntress is about to reason but was shortly interrupted by the shinobi.
"And what is this proposal?" Sasuke interjected, while looking unamused. Ozpin smiled a little before answering, "I would like you to join Beacon Academy, Mr. Uchiha."
A moment of silence passed before Sasuke chuckled darkly, confusing the other occupants of the room. "I see, so the king wants to gather some pawns he can use to do his bidding?" He mockingly questioned, earning a frown from Ozpin and a glare from Goodwitch.
"I refuse. If you want a pawn, find someone else" he coldly stated. He was done fooling around, so he turned and walked towards the exit, all the while ignoring the glare sent to him the blonde. "Please reconsider, Mr. Uchiha" Ozpin's voice reached him, yet he didn't stop nor turn to face the headmaster.
"You are mistaken. I am not asking you to be a pawn, I am asking you to be a student" he sternly continued on deaf ears. "I believe you could benefit more if you do become a student of our academy."
"From what you told us earlier, you came from a secluded village. By no means, I am belittling the knowledge your village has. But I believe you can learn more from this academy, if you were to give it a try and stay" Ozpin urged.
The mention of knowledge suddenly piqued Sasuke's interest, as he was prompted to stop in his tracks. Ozpin secretly smiled, knowing that he somewhat kindled the teen's curiousity.
'Knowledge, huh' the shinobi mused. 'Will learning something from this world, benefit ours?' He questioned himself, slowly becoming engrossed in his own thoughts. 'Still, I have to continue my search for the Ōtsutsukis… but without mastery over Amenominaka, my chances of finding them is very slim'
As much as he would like to continue his mission, the usage of such unstable jutsu without further knowledge can be quite fatal to him, if he were to run out of chakra. He could be stranded in a dimension without air, or even die from chakra exhaustion.
He made a mistake earlier by thinking he was capable of using such an unstable technique and look where it got him, inside an unknown world. He underestimated the justu before, he will not underestimate it again. As such, maybe learning the knowledge from this dimension prove to be the most ideal option for him to take.
'So, that leaves me no choice… using Amenominaka is out of the question' he thought with mild annoyance. 'I could either summon Aoba to bring a message to the leaf, so that they could reverse summon me back or… stay and study this world' he carefully weighted his options.
Time continued to tick and soon he made his decision. 'Seems like gathering knowledge from this world is now my priority… and accepting his proposal is my best decision.'
'Besides, this academy is the perfect cover away from prying eyes' he mused, before turning around and eyeing the stoic huntsman. 'The only problem is this headmaster; I don't trust him one bit. He is too sharp for his own good. He wants me to stay here so he could observe me' he frowned.
Being a shinobi, Sasuke is very familiar when it comes to deceit and lies. As to why he easily saw through the headmaster's hidden motives. 'So, you think that you can use me, huh? Too bad. I will be the one using you!' He coldly thought.
If Ozpin is so adamant to dance with the devil, then the devil himself will dance back.
"Hn, very well. I accept your offer" Sasuke coolly stated, earning a small smile from Ozpin. "I'm glad you agree, Mr. Uchiha. I will prepare your student application right away" the headmaster stated, while the blonde at his side merely huffed in annoyance.
"Unfortunately, that is not all, as there is still a last step for you to take before we accept you here in Beacon" Ozpin continued, earning a raised eyebrow from the teen. "And that is?" Sasuke questioned, while looking at the huntsman passively.
"You will have to take the entrance exam, just like the students did before you" the headmaster answered, while the shinobi merely frowned. "Although, I don't believe that this exam will give you a hard time" he continued, as Sasuke narrowed his eyes suspiciously at Ozpin.
"Then why do you want me to take it?" he pressed for an answer. "Formality of course. It would be unfair if you didn't take it like the students before you" the headmaster answered, while Sasuke's frown deepened.
He knows a lie when he hears one, he is a shinobi after all. Yet he didn't point it out and instead scoured his brain for answers. 'What is he playing?' the shinobi thought for a second before figuring it out. 'I see… so that's what you're plotting. You want to observe me further' he concluded, not at all amused.
"Fine" he emotionlessly agreed after a while of pondering. Ozpin then smiled at the compliance before continuing, "Excellent. Professor Goodwitch here will take you to the cliff, tomorrow morning where the exam will occur."
"In the meantime, I would assign a team who will tour you today, throughout the academy" the headmaster finished, to which Sasuke merely nodded. "Are you sure it's a good idea to let such dangerous man near the students, headmaster?" the huntress argued, disbelief evident in her tone.
"Hn, I won't harm them" the raven-haired teen answered her, in Ozpin's stead. The headmaster smiled at Sasuke, while Goodwitch narrowed her eyes suspiciously.
"You heard him, Professor Goodwitch. I trust his word" the grey-haired huntsman said, making the blonde huff in annoyance. He then opened his desk's drawer and took a slim rectangle object, about the size of a small notebook before handing it for the huntress to take.
"You are too trusting, headmaster" she said, but nevertheless took the unknown object from Ozpin's hand. "Now then, Professor Goodwitch will take you to your room. The team that I assigned for the tour will pick you up from there" he said to the teen, all the while ignoring the blonde's words.
The huntress glared at the expressionless teen for a second before sighing and rubbing the bridge of her nose. "Very well. Follow me, young man" she sternly said as she walked pass Sasuke before pressing the elevator button and heading inside after it opened.
The Uchiha uttered no word and instead, he followed the blonde inside the elevator. Ozpin looked at the closing gate before grabbing his scroll from his pocket. He closed his eyes, to ponder on whose team he will assign to be the tour guide.
He then opened his eyes and briefly smiled. He found the perfect candidates for the job. With a press of a button on his scroll, he dialed a number and awaited an answer.
"Hello?" a voice of a girl from the scroll answered. "Ms. Rose, am I interrupting something?" he questioned. "Nope! Not at all Professor Ozpin. Uhm, I'm not in trouble, am I?" the now named Rose nervously questioned.
"Not at all, Ms. Rose" he assured before continuing. "I called because I have an important task for you and your team" Ozpin answered.
After walking in the campus for quite a while, Goodwitch with Sasuke in tow, finally reached the dorm room where the latter will reside. "This is your scroll, Mr. Uchiha" the blonde professor said as she handed the rectangular object from earlier for the shinobi to take.
"Scroll?" the raven-haired teen questioned as he narrowed his eyes at the object in his right hand. "This looks nothing like a scroll" he deadpanned.
"I take that it's your first time seeing that" the blonde asked the obvious, earning a nod from Sasuke. The professor sighed before explaining the basics of the scroll and how to use it to open the door.
After the short explanation, the teen muttered a small thanks at the professor before she walked away. Sasuke then did what he was told and unlocked the door using his scroll. He entered the room and closed the door behind him, as he set his gaze and scanned the space, he will live in.
Inside the room, a single bed is situated at the far right, while the desk and a chair are placed at the middle back, in front of the medium window with red curtain. He then set his eyes towards the left side of the room where he noticed a lone door.
'Probably the bathroom' he concluded, as we walked towards the bed before placing his scroll on it and sitting down. He then took his black cloak off his body and rested it at the edge of his bed. With nothing more left to do but wait for his tour guide to arrive, his mind wandered back to the events that transpired today.
'A different world, huh? Who would have thought?' He mused. 'Will the Elemental Nations really benefit from this world?' He questioned himself all, he still wasn't satisfied at the choice he made, postponing his search for the Ōtsutsukis in favor of gathering knowledge from Remnant.
'I guess I'll have to find out myself, what this world has to offer. But first… I'll have to find a large and secluded area in order to summon Aoda and have him deliver a message back to the leaf' he thought, as he moved his hands to form a familiar cross. Just as he was about to create a shadow clone, he heard a series of knocks coming from his door.
Sasuke momentarily stared at the door before standing up and walking towards it. He then placed his right hand at the handle before twisting and pulling to opening it.
"Uhm… hello there!" the figure of a familiar teen shyly greeted him. The individual in front of him has the appearance of a fair-skinned young girl with silver eyes and neck-length black hair with red tips
She wears a black long-sleeved blouse with a high collar and red trim on the sleeves, over which is a black waist cincher with red lacing up the front, and a matching skirt with red lining. Her outfit is topped by a red hooded cloak fastened to her shoulders by cross-shaped pins.
She also wears a pair of thick black stockings and black combat boots with red laces, red trims around the top, and red soles. An emblem of some sort is placed on her wide black belt, which is slung around her hips on an angle. Attached to her belt are a pocket and a row silver metals that Sasuke had never seen before.
'This must be my guide' the shinobi thought, before wondering why she looked familiar. He then remembered that she was one of the students earlier, that tried to intervene with his fight with Goodwitch. Looking past her, his eyes spotted three more familiar teens looking at him with different expressions.
"Are you the team assigned?" He questioned the obvious, to which the girl in front of him nodded to, albeit nervously. "Yup and… uhm, my name is Ruby Rose and there are my teammates" she said, before gesturing to the teens behind her using her right hand
"Yang Xiao Long, at your service" the grinning girl on the left, with her hands on her hips said. 'Another blonde, huh' Sasuke took note of her hair, before further observing her looks.
She has the appearance of a fair-skinned young woman with lilac eyes and bright golden hair that fades to pale gold at the tips with a cowlick sticking out at the top.
She wears a tan jacket that exposes her midriff, with golden brown piping and short puffy sleeves with black cuffs that feature two gold buttons. Underneath this, she wears a low cut yellow crop top with a black printed emblem, visible on her right breast. On her neck, she wears an orange scarf, while a black fingerless glove covers both of her hands.
She also wears a brown belt covered by a pleated brown piece of material reaching from hip to hip around the back of her waist, with an emblem emblazoned on the right-most pleat in gold. Underneath this is a long, white, asymmetrical piece of material reaching to her knee on the right side, as well as a pair of black mini-shorts.
For her footwear, she wears a pair of brown knee-high boots and orange over-the-knee socks, with the right sock pushed down just below the knee. To finish her appearance, she has a gray bandanna tied around her right knee.
Done in his observation, Sasuke then turned towards the individual next to her. As opposed to the blonde, the teen in the middle is eyeing suspiciously, while also adamant in not saying a word. But after a few seconds, she reluctantly complied and introduced herself, "Weiss Schnee."
'Prideful' he assumed, before delving in observing her looks. The girl has the appearance of a pale-skinned young woman with pale blue eyes and long white hair that is pulled back into an off-center ponytail on the left side and pinned with a silver, icicle-shaped tiara. The most notable about her face is the scar runs vertically down her right eye.
On top, she wears a thigh-length strapless dress with a faint color gradation from white to pale blue at the hem. A small piece of black lace sits in the front of her neckline and the hem of the dress is scalloped and stitched to resemble snowflakes, with layers of white tulle under the skirt. Over this, she wears a bell-sleeved bolero with the same color gradation as her dress from shoulder to wrist, lined in red and with a ruffled collar.
She also wears a small apple pendant on a silver chain and thin, rectangular silver earrings. Her boots are white, wedged heeled, and higher at the back than the front. They have a small silver decoration across the top of the foot and are lined in red. A thin white sash is tied around her waist with a pouch attached to the back.
'From her looks and the way, she carries herself… she must be from a prestigious family' Sasuke concluded, before turning to the final and unidentified teen.
"Blake Belladonna" she introduced herself, all the while trying be expressionless as possible. However, this proved to be a futile attempt, as the Uchiha easily saw through her façade, the wariness within towards him.
'She's rather experienced in masking her emotions, I'll give her that' Sasuke thought, before observing her looks. The girl has the appearance of a fair-skinned young woman with wavy black hair, black bow perched on top of her head and amber eyes.
'Did her bow just twitched?' He shortly questioned himself, before deciding to ignore it for now.
She wears a black buttoned vest with coattails and a single silver button on the front. Underneath this is a white, sleeveless, high necked, crop undershirt and white shorts with a zipper on the front of each leg. A small, loose, black scarf is wrapped around her neck, and a gray backpack is strapped to her back, almost hidden by her hair.
She also wears black low-heeled boots and full stockings with a color gradation of black to purple at her ankles. An emblem is visible on the outside of both thighs just below her shorts in white. On her left arm is a black detached sleeve with a silver cuff around her bicep, and black ribbons are wrapped around both forearms.
'What's with their logos? Are those their family crests?' He questioned himself, as he observed the different insignias present on the girls' clothing, all except for Weiss. 'It must be at her back… just like that of the Uchiha clan' he quickly concluded. Seeing as the other three have theirs, it's highly unlikely she didn't have one.
"Uhm, what's your name?" Ruby meekly asked, garnering his attention. "Sasuke. Uchiha Sasuke" he coolly replied, as he remembered how different the introductions are in this world. The red caped girl then nodded before smiling at his compliance. "What's this? My baby sis is asking a boy's name?" Yang teased as she feigned a shocked look, much to the girl's embarrassment.
'Sister?' Sasuke thought, as he observed no similarities between the two, in addition to their different 'family crest'. 'Maybe they're half-sisters' he mused.
"Yaaang" Ruby whined with a blush adorned on her face, before she hit her the grinning blonde on her arm. "Idiots" Weiss muttered, as she pinched the bridge of her nose, all the while the two sisters fooled around. "Can we just get this over with?" She questioned, annoyance evident on her face and tone.
"Oh, right!" Ruby said, as she immediately stopped hitting the laughing blonde on her arm. She then 'coughed' at her right hand before cheerfully saying, "Alright team RWBY, let's tour Sasuke!"
"Forward, march!" She commanded, before walking ahead for everyone to follow. Yang snickered, finding amusement to her sister's enthusiasm, as she followed. "Hn, are they always like that?" He inquired the two girls left with him.
"You'll get used to it" Blake answered him, before walking ahead, leaving him alone with Weiss. 'Out of all the possible teams… you wish to annoy me huh, Ozpin' he thought, not at all amused as he and the Schnee followed the group of girls, in front of them.
After being led at the numerous different places at Beacon, Sasuke and team RWBY finally reached the place he is interested in. "And this is the Library!" Ruby eagerly said to the shinobi, earning her a couple of "shhhs" from the other reading students.
Embarrassed, she quickly apologized before turning to the Uchiha, only to find him walking towards the numerous bookshelves. "Ugh, don't tell me he's going to read! It's soooo borringggg" Ruby groaned, earning a snicker from Yang.
"Great, another person who wears black, loves to read and talks very little. Looks like we found the male version of Blake" Yang cackled, receiving a light glare from the girl and a "shhh" from the librarian.
While this is happening, Sasuke took a random book from the shelf before looking at the cover. 'The History of the Port Mafia: Vale's Largest Syndicate from the Golden Age…' He returned the book from where he took it before adapting a thoughtful look. 'So, not only can I understand their language… I can also read and understand their alphabet for some reason…'
'What could be the reasoning for this?' He shortly shook his head, 'It doesn't matter, I have bigger things to do rather than question my sudden ability to read and speak foreign language.'
He roamed along the shelves and searched, quickly gathering the books he needed: the basics about Remnant, Dust, Grimm, Faunus, Aura and Semblance. He then placed the books on an empty table, before sitting down and activating his Sharingan. In less than 10 minutes, he was done with most of the books he took.
He was so engrossed reading that he even failed to notice team RWBY approaching him. "You seriously won't be able to understand anything if you 'read' that fast" Weiss reprimanded while folding her arms to her chest. Much like her, her teammates agreed, seeing his pace in flipping the book in his hand.
"My semblance allows me to read fast" he coolly replied, all the while not taking his gaze away from the book. "Whoa, that's a pretty useful semblance" Ruby said, with Blake and Yang agreeing. Weiss however, was skeptical as she looked at his red eye and asked "What exactly is your semblance?"
Sasuke was thinking of ignoring her, in favor of reading the book in his hand. But knowing that she won't take no for an answer, he decided to just enlighten her. "My semblance allows me to perceive things faster than other people, as to why I can read and move quick" he said, as he showed them the spinning pinwheel in his visible eye.
The look of his Sharingan up close slightly disturbed team RWBY, as there was something about his eye that gives them the chills. "Wait, if that is your semblance then how come you were able to use electricity and that blue glowing hand earlier" Yang questioned what she and her team was thinking, much to his annoyance.
"Those are just copied semblance" he answered, earning him confused looks from team RWBY. He sighed, before elaborating, "My Sharingan allows me to copy the semblance of other people that I had eye contact with."
"Fitting name, as the Sharingan means copy wheel eye" Blake commented, much to his and everyone's surprise. "Wait, how do you know his language?" Yang questioned, to which the black loving girl shrugged. "It's Old Mistralian. I read a couple of books of it when I was a kid."
"Still, that's kinda overpowered if you ask me" Yang said, as everyone of her teammates agreed. The shinobi didn't answer and instead, chose to finish the books in silence. All the while ignoring the small talks of the team.
After another 10 minutes passed, Sasuke was finally done and began returning the books to their previous locations. With him gaining the basic information he needed, he decided that he was done with the library for now. Going back to the table where team RWBY is currently located, he told them he wants to continue the tour, much to Yang and Ruby's delight.
'Memorizing the layout of this school and gathering basic knowledge from this world, not a bad start' he thought, as he and team RWBY walked outside the library. 'Now the only thing left for me to do is find a place where I could summon Aoda.'
By the time they finished the tour, nighttime finally fell on the academy. With nothing better left to do, team RWBY with Sasuke in tow, decided to head towards the cafeteria to have their dinner. Upon arriving, Ruby led him towards the line so that he could pick the food of his liking.
It took him only a second to gaze through the vast choices of food he could pick, before finally landing on what he could tell, this world's version of fish stew. It wasn't much to be honest, just a salmon and a bunch of vegetables. Yet, it was the closest thing he can find that reminds him of home so he decided to choose it.
After receiving his food, he then went towards the table where team RWBY is currently eating. Yang, being the tease, she is, nudged Blake who is seated next to her when she saw him arrive with his choice of food. "You know Blake, earlier I was just joking on how he is a male version of you. But seeing as he also likes fish, then maybe he really is!" Yang cackled while Blake glared at her. 'Blondes will be the death of me' Sasuke annoyingly thought, as he sat down next to a giggling Ruby.
'Not bad' he mused, as he took a bite out of his food. "Where are you from anyway and why did you attack professor Goodwitch?" Weiss broke the silence by questioning him sternly, garnering his and the rest of team RWBY's attention.
"Yeah spill the beans blacky. Are you an alternate version of Blake who somehow managed to come here?" Yang joked while grinning, earning a giggle from Ruby and two glares from the black wearing duo. 'This blonde' Sasuke thought, already annoyed at Yang's antics.
Ignoring the blonde's question, he answered Weiss. "Konohagakure no Sato."
"The village hidden in the leaves" Blake interjected with the translation. "It's quite a poetic name" she added, to which Sasuke nodded. "As to why I attacked Goodwitch, it was a simple misunderstanding."
"Simple misunderstanding? Do you really expect us to believe that?" Weiss asked him, while eyeing him suspiciously. However, all she got in response is Sasuke saying the same thing he said to Goodwitch earlier. "Believing me or not, matters very little to me."
Weiss glared at him before opening her mouth to retort. However, before she could so, she was interrupted by her blonde teammate. "Whoa, you need to relax, Ice Queen" Yang carefreely said, before grinning. "Don't call me that!" Weiss hissed at the blonde.
"Well, if he said it like that then maybe it really is just a misunderstanding. Also, Sasuke already talked to headmaster Ozpin, so they probably patched things up there" Ruby chimed in, yet it didn't ease the Schnee's wariness and mistrust towards the shinobi.
Unbeknownst to her, Blake is also the same, as she didn't buy what the shinobi told them, unlike the two sisters. 'He's clearly hiding something' she thought, as she narrowed her eyes suspiciously at the eating Uchiha.
"So, you're a now a student here, right?" Ruby asked him, to which he shook his head. His response confused team RWBY, evident from the looks on their faces. "Wait, then why did the headmaster asked us to tour you then?" Weiss questioned what she and her other teammates was thinking.
"Not yet, as I still have to take the entrance exam tomorrow morning, at the cliffs" he clarified, to which the girls nodded in understanding. "Hey, do you think we could watch your initiation Sasuke?" Ruby asked, while he shrugged as he didn't know. "Yeah, let's ask Ozpin tomorrow. I wanna see you in action, blacky!" Yang excitingly said, with Ruby and Blake agreeing with her.
Sasuke ignored the annoying nickname given to him, courtesy of the blonde, and instead focused on finishing his meal. The rest of the dinner went peaceful for the shinobi, with people minding their own businesses. It was quiet but not too quiet, with the occasional smalls talk here and there from team RWBY.
Soon, everyone was done eating and is now heading towards their designated rooms. "Bye Sasuke! See ya tomorrow! And uh, you weren't so bad after all!" Ruby said before waving. "Says the girl who insisted on wearing our combat gear in case the new student attacks" Yang teased, before snickering as she went inside their own room.
Ruby blushed, as she averted her eyes from Sasuke's own. "Uh-h uhm…" she stuttered, failing to find anything to defend herself. "It's fine" the Uchiha said, snapping her away from her thoughts. "Uhm, if you say so. Uh, see ya tomorrow and good luck in your exam" she shyly said before rushing in her team's room, leaving the shinobi alone.
Sasuke gave one final look at team RWBY's door before entering his own room and closing his door. He then went towards the window, before pushing the curtains aside and opening it. 'World of Remnant, huh' he thought, as his mind wandered back to the events earlier.
He was about to move away from the window and head towards the bathroom, but stopped at what he saw. There, above the midnight sky, a white and eerie broken moon shines. His eyes widened, as his mind faltered. He felt a cold sweat running at his neck, as he uttered a name, one that he thought he will never say again.
"Kaguya!"
AN: Hooboy! This is honestly the longest chapter I had ever written, as I revised a lot of the dialogues and events that occurred here, seeing as I rushed this chapter before. Hopefully, Sasuke decision in staying in Remnant is more believable now.
Furthermore, I've removed the introduction of team JNPR, along with the Akatsuki scene because the chapter is already too damn long. Don't worry though, I'll place it in the rewrite of Chapter 3, which I will update soon!
Did you like the chapter? Is it way better now? Be sure to tell me your thoughts in the review below! As, always thanks for all your support in this series! We finally managed to hit 100 follows and favorites! With that said, I'll see you soon, Buh bye!
