Generally, Latvia likes Sealand. Sealand makes him feel human— Sealand makes him feel like he has hope, like one day he will die.
All Latvia really wants today is to feel human, and the only thing that makes him feel more human than writing is showing off his writing. So Latvia has brought a small book to show Sealand, because Sealand loves his writing. And actually Sealand probably wouldn't like most of it, because most of Latvia's writing is not exactly joyous, but Sealand doesn't know about most of Latvia's writing. This particular book Latvia holds only contains poems about the outdoors, a few vivid descriptions of latvian architecture and cuisine, and a few other things that won't really pique Sealand's interest for any reason other than that Latvia wrote them.
Latvia is occasionally irritated by Sealand's innocence. Though they are similar in physical age, Latvia has been forced to grow up much more. Every time Latvia sees Sealand, Sealand is either perfectly happy or annoyed about something small. Latvia sees Sealand as someone with few struggles; he sees Sealand as what he should have been. Simply put, Latvia is envious.
Latvia may be envious, but he would never wish to hurt Sealand by burdening him with personal problems. Latvia knows already that the things he's dealing with make a person feel powerless, and he couldn't cope with allowing someone to feel that way on his behalf. So it is much to Latvia's dismay that Sealand's expression switches from excited to concerned as soon as he catches sight of him.
"Latvia," Sealand exclaims, "what happened to your mouth?"
Latvia, in his own excitement, had almost forgotten the bruise on his mouth. After a moment he says, with a laugh, "I ran into a doorknob."
Sealand laughs, relieved, because Latvia has grown a reputation for being clumsy, and Latvia laughs because people don't just run into doorknobs. Latvia laughs because he's not even trying to hide it anymore, because 'running into doorknobs' is an excuse as heavily abused as the people that use it. If he'd told any other nation this, they would have understood the situation.
But Sealand, Sealand does not understand. In that moment, their differences really become clear, too clear for Latvia's comfort. And while Latvia has been through a lot lately, he can't think of a recent moment more painful than this one.
Given the nature of the stuff I've been releasing lately, I feel it's only fair to state that I have never laughed nor lied about doorknobs. A review would be wonderful. Have a great day and stay safe.
