As the sun rises on a lone figure is seen skating along a frozen pond, during the summer its the town's swimming hole. The skater made a sharp turn and made long strides trying to get faster when they came to a sharp stop sending a fine powder of ice airborne. A tinny cellphone alarm went off.

"I gotta work on my acceleration that's not going to cut it." Their voice said frustrated. "I gotta get to school." They took off their scarf and winter hat revealing deep blue hair. Taking off her skates, she checked their sharpness making a note to get them sharpened tomorrow. She put on the blade guards tossing them into the hockey bag in the back of their car.

After driving to school she glanced at the sign in front saying 'Peach Creek High Tonight PCH Cobblers versus Apple Bay Warriors 7PM the Barn.' Finding a parking space She went into the building making her way into the women's locker room taking a quick shower and changing into her dress wear. After that she brushed her hair into the way she liked it just barely covering over her right eye. Fixing her shirt she picked up her backpack and made her way to her locker.

"Hey May." She greeted. "Sorry I didn't wait for you to get up when I went to the pond."

"Hey Marie, don't worry about it I made it without you." A blonde looked smirking her buck teeth sticking out after that last statement. "Don't you have a game tonight you don't want to wear yourself out." She said slightly concerned.

"Don't worry about it, I'm fine and besides its only Apple Bay. We absolutely crushed them last time."

May opened her mouth to say something but was cut off by the bell.

"Well I'm off to study hall see you at lunch Marie." May said with a wave walking off. Marie watched as her sister walked off and then turned the corner. She then brushed her shirt a bit just in case when her phone buzzed.

'Have a good day Sis. Sorry can't make the game tonight but I'm rooting for you.'

The text was from her sister Lee who graduated the year prior. She was now working as a physical trainer at a local gym. Sending some of her pay to help out her family but living in a studio apartment to be give her sisters some space.

'Thanks Lee you too.' Marie sent back making it to her class and then making her way to the back corner of the room. Not really absorbing anything said in her classes the next thing she knew it was lunch time and with her tray she sat down across from her sister.

"Marie Kanker please come down Mr. Sterb's office, once again that's Marie Kanker to Mr. Sterb's office thank you." A woman's voice rang out over the PA system.

"I guess I wont see you at lunch. What did you do?" May said putting down her sandwich

"I dunno but he is the AD so it must have something to do with the hockey team." Marie said getting up from the table and grabbing her bag. "I'll see you after school to bring you home."

Marie made her way to the Athletic Director's office an older gentleman with a gray goatee sat behind a desk. Behind him on a shelf was a PCH Football helmet it was blue with an orange stripe going down the middle with the logo on the side. He looked up saw Marie smiled and motioned for her to sit down.

BREAK

"Alright so who is going to the hockey game tonight?" A young man in his early 30s asked a classroom of about seven students."

"I'll do it Mr. Derry, my friend is with the broadcasting class and he's doing the student radio commentary on it so it'll be convenient for me, plus my other friend is on the team." A young man in the front row wearing a beanie. "Anything specific we need for the Tattler?" He continued to ask before writing down the game start time in a planner.

"Just the usual for our sport stories Eddward; some of the major plays a few post game interviews with a few of our players. Also try to get a pregame interview with our star left wing I've heard it from our AD that they're getting scouted from some major colleges." The jovial man said before taking a sip of his coffee and wiping a bit from his mustache. "Okay so class one of the major things you need to remember in journalism is you have the power to make a major change in the world." He started to say before the phone started to ring. "Excuse me class." He walked over and answered the call. "Uh huh this is him. Yes he is. Sure not a problem. I can send him down right after class." Mr. Derry finished before hanging up. "Eddward, Mr. Sterb wants to see you right after class."

"Not a Problem."

BREAK

"So what's going on Sterb?" Marie asked as she sat down.

"Marie, the grades came to me today. You're not academically eligible to play starting tomorrow until your grades improve. He started before handing a piece of paper to her. "You know your GPA needs to be at 1.75 or higher." Marie sank in her chair looking at the paper.

"Okay I can them up I promise. I need hockey its my only realistic chance to get out of this town and help my family." She said looking at the amount work she'll have to do to get the grades up.

"I understand Marie. I can see what I can do, have you thought about a tutor? Let me go through the list we have of volunteers head to class. I'll see who can agree and we can talk more after school." Sterb said before handing a hall pass to Marie and picking up the phone.

BREAK

"I dunno why you agreed to tutor someone sockhead. We got stuff we do after school." A teenager of around average height and a shaved fade into some gelled hair said before opening his chocolate milk.

"I don't even know who it is all I know is they're on the hockey team and surprisingly its not Ed Eddy. And besides you know I'm always one to help out my fellow students in scholastic endeavors." Edd said before starting to eat his salad.

"You know what they say Double Dee!" An absolute mountain of a man with shaggy red mop top said before noticing a fly buzzing and following it around with his gaze.

"Ed you wouldn't happen to know who might be in danger of not being eligible to play?" Double Dee asked before taking another forkful of salad.

"Not a clue there bucko." He answered before shoveling his entire lunch tray into his mouth.

"So are we just carpooling to the Barn then?" Eddy asked

"Yeah I'm doing the report for the Tattler I gotta get there early to try and get a pregame interview with whoever the star left wing is apparently. Plus it makes sense cause Ed is part of the team Eddy."

"Oh man. You're a dead man. You know that right?" Eddy said before just cracking up.

"What makes you say that?" Double Dee replied before wiping his mouth and taking care of his trash.

"You do know who the star left wing is right?" After noticing the blank stare from Edd Eddy continued. "Its Marie Freaking Kanker."

"Oh" Was all Double Dee could say. Then the bell rang and the students of Peach Creek High went to their last class of the day.
