A/N: I'm having a crisis right now… so yeah anyway I wrote this to cope… enjoy
This takes place during Descendants 2
The swords crashed together and cutlasses scraped against each other in an ear-bleeding fashion. Mal and her friends were this close to beating Uma and her half witted crew. Most of the lower ranking pirates had already been tossed overboard or had just surrendered without putting up a fight, which just left a select few to fight alongside the Sea Three in the final moments of the battle. Uma glared at the purple haired princess and charged at her with a drawn sword. Carlos was quick to cover his eyes. He wasn't big on physical harm, generally preferring wits as a battle strategy. After a few seconds, when Carlos decided it was safe to look again, he removed his hands from his face and exhaled. Mal was okay. She was able to swiftly evade the oncoming attack from the pirate queen. But Mal's victory didn't last long. Gil and Harry walked further down the dock and split up with Gil going after Mal and Harry strutting toward Jay and Carlos with his hook held out in front of him, ready to slash the life out of anyone who did so much as look at him the wrong way. Carlos ducked behind Jay. Carlos was usually pretty brave in situations like this, I mean he had sailed to the Isle of the Doomed and fought off his "mother" in the catacombs, but Harry Hook was the one person besides Cruella herself that Carlos was still truly afraid of. Harry was off kilter and mad and on top of that he was just plain sadistic. Harry sashayed closer to the pair, laughing maniacally,
"You really think I can't see you, puppy?"
Harry asked, Laughing at Carlos's behavior then, looking at Jay with a deranged smile, as if trying to gain approval from the Arabian thief.
Harry stepped closer to the pair and got up in Carlos's personal space. He dragged his hook along Carlos's freckled cheek. Harry chuckled as he anticipated the reaction to his next comment,
"It's weird seeing you without all those bruises."
Harry curled his lip in a show of mock sympathy.
All the color drained from Carlos's face. He raised his hand to his cheek and exhaled. His mind was now racing with memories. Some of his mother or of things Harry had done to him in the past. Carlos inhaled shakily and subconsciously stepped away from Harry. Satisfied with the reaction his words had caused, the leather clad pirate turned to start messing with Jay. But Jay was not having it, he looked Harry in the eye, grabbed him by the wrist and squeezed until he heard something pop. Harry let out a yowl but began swinging his hook at Jay's side. Jay was able to evade most of the pirates advances but one well maneuvered move managed to catch on his shoulder, slashing his lower bicep down to his elbow. Jay hissed and recoiled, giving Harry enough time to scramble away from the still seething VK. Jay glared after Harry but decided to let him run. He wasn't worth chasing anymore. Jay refused to give Harry the attention he so desperately craved. Instead, Jay chose to turn his attention back to Carlos, who was sitting behind a stack of wooden crates, quietly whispering to himself. Jay was careful to approach him, he knew how dangerous it was to touch Carlos when he got like this. Jay squatted down a few feet away from Carlos. Close enough to be caught in his line of sight but not close enough to startle the boy. Carlos lifted his head and glanced around. His face softened when he spotted Jay, who offered his hand to Carlos. The shorter boy accepted it and stood up, brushing off his pants once he regained his balance. Jay squeezed Carlos's hand in reassurance.
"Hey, you're safe."
Jay whispered, breaking the silence.
"I know, I just…I'm sorry I-"
Carlos stammered
"Carlos, it's okay, alright? You have nothing to be sorry for. I totally get it. But you're safe now. Okay?"
"But-"
Carlos started
"Shh, no buts,"
Jay said, putting a finger to Carlos's lips,
"I'll always be here to protect you."
"Promise?"
Carlos asked, removing Jay's hand from his face and glancing up to meet his gaze.
Jay pulled Carlos closer. He brushed Carlos's hair out of his face and planted a soft kiss on his forehead, then whispered,
"I promise."
