A/N: I hate first chapters so we're all going to collectively agree to get over this hump in order for more and better content going on! I have a couple of things planned for this story and I'm really excited to be writing again.
All things considered, she really was not yelling that loud.
Sure, Rose had managed to gather a crowd around her, but they were primarily first years, anyone who had spent more than a couple months at Hogwarts was more than capable of tuning out Rose and Scorpius's Malfoy's arguing. Her arms were flailing, her face was red from screaming and she did not sound to be near anywhere done with her rant.
However, she really didn't think she was overreacting. He was the one who thought it would be totally appropriate and absolutely hilarious to 'accidentally' sprinkle extra asphodel into her potion, which led to it exploding all over her and her clothes.
He, of course, being Scorpius Malfoy.
"Listen Weasley," Scorpius said, sounding almost sincere, at least, if he didn't have his trademark smirk on his face," I told you! It was an accident. I didn't know that would happen. Truuuuly no idea," he sang, grinning at her
She scoffed," Oh yeah, the potions prodigy truly doesn't know the adverse effects of a fucking gram of asphodel." She mocked, rolling her eyes and beginning to quiet down as
Albus made his way over to them, deciding the entertaining part of this argument was over and he was starting to just find his two best friend's voices annoying.
He had, more or less, been spending his last six years at Hogwarts doing this. Ever since he befriended Scorp in their first year, he and Rose hadn't exactly gotten along. Sure, she tried for a total of about ten minutes, for Al's sake, but after the first joke me made about the 'unruly mess on her head she called hair', she came back with a retort about his 'creepy translucent skin that was probably reptilian' it hadn't really ever ended. In fact, it really only escalated. Pranks, insults, rumors, Scorp had once gone as far as to lock Rose in her dorm room for twenty-four hours, marking her first and last absences from class to date.
No one really knows how he pulled that one off.
Simply said, Rose and Scorpius were like water and oil if water and oil had once started a fire in a transfiguration classroom once.
Third year. They both got detentions. Rose cried. Scorpius wasn't much better, but at least he was able to stifle his tears until he was in the privacy of his own dorm room.
Scorpius opened his mouth to make a remark about her acknowledging his absolutely extravagant potions skills when Al clapped him on the back and shook his head.
"Alright, that's enough. I'm starving, and your voices are giving me a headache." Al said, rolling his eyes as he looked at his cousin," Coming to dinner, Rose?"
She rolled her eyes, grumbling, but still walked with him. "Next time you pick out a best friend, it would mean a lot to me if you went for someone who wasn't, you know, the biggest arsehole on this planet."
Scorp laughed, rolling his eyes."Well, Weasel, maybe if you weren't such a brat, Al wouldn't have been forced to seek out such a suave, good-looking new best friend." He said, sitting down at the Gryffindor table.
Al and Scorp were both sorted in Slytherin their first year but they just could not be bothered to sit with them, not when Lily, Rose, and Hugo were over here.
At least, that was Al's reasoning. And where Al went, Scorpius went.
Rose didn't do so well with this fact.
"Oh, where is he? I'd love to meet him!" Rose pretended to look around and Al laughed shaking his head at Scorp's now glaring face.
Any retort that could've come out of Scorp's mouth, and historically speaking, there usually was one, was cut off by Hugo snorting as the three sixth years sat down.
"I heard about your clothing mishap-you really shouldn't be so clumsy, Rosie." He said, grinning at his sister as he took a bread roll off of her plate.
She slapped his hand away as Scorpius laughed, "You're a dick." She said, taking the bread back and taking a big bite out of it.
She looked between Lily and Hugo."So, what Weasley family member am I writing home about which one of you not doing your homework?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.
Lily grinned at her."Not me! I finished my Defense Against the Dark Arts essay a whole three days early!" She proudly handed it over to Rose who immediately brought out a quill as her eyes begin to scan the page.
Hugo grimaced."I think the amount of time you guys spent together the summer has proven to be bad for Lily. You're rubbing off on her." He said, glaring at Rose with such sincerity she wasn't convinced he didn't mean it.
"Absolutely not, I can barely hand one know it all redhead." Scorpius pointed a fork between Lily and Rose, "Between me, Al, Hugo, James, and Fred...You know better." Lily giggled at the 'oh so charming' Scorpius Malfoy as Rose rolled her eyes, glancing up from Lily's essay.
"Just because you're mad I've got you beat in every class, Malfoy, doesn't mean you should be trying to turn my own dear cousins against me." She said, sticking her tongue out at him.
Scorpius and Rose really valued maturity in their arguing.
He laughed."Right, I forgot they've actually removed potions from our curriculum. How odd." He grinned at her and wrapped his arm around her, smirking slightly."Besides, who says I'm turning Lils against you? Maybe I just need to make sure I only have one person to worry about arguing with. I just know how upset you'd be if you had to share me and my wit with Lily, and I've seen you cry," He shook his head."It's not cute."
She blushed and ducked her head out of his arm, groaning."You've got me in one class!"
He grinned."And, If I studied as you did, I'd have you in all of them. But, luckily for you, I actually have a life." His eyes wandered off to a pretty Ravenclaw sitting just a table over, who was laughing with her friends. He smirked.
"Like her! She was my life this weekend." Rose groaned as Al and Hugo looked over to where Scorp's eyes were, as Rose kicked Hugo under the table. He scowled at her, quickly turning back around.
"You're a pig." She said, turning back to Scorpius.
"And you're jealous."
"Of who? Her? Right, what I wouldn't give to be in the sheets of Scorpius can't keep it in his pants Malfoy." Rose mocked, making gagging noises. A normal person might take offense to this
Scorp took it as encouragement.
"I know you would! I'll take you right here and now, if that's what you want, Rosie." He winked at her as Al hit him with his arm and Hugo groaned.
"Dude!" Al yelled as Rose blushed, deciding to let her cousin take over the conversation."You know I hate it when you make jokes about snogging my cousin."
Scorp's grin only widened."Exactly-it pisses you off and makes Rose's face turn into the color of a fire hydrant. Works for me."
Scorpius had, in recent years, had decided that making jokes that revolved around having sex with Rose was just the funniest thing he could come up with. It worked great for him as, for some reason, it made Rose blush brightly and she usually fumbled on words instead of being able to come up with any sort of clever retort.
This only made Rose blush harder as she tried, once again, to focus on Lily's paper. Al hit him again."I ask so little of you, and yet, you still disappoint."
"Potter, I'm afraid you're starting to sound just like my father. Very unbecoming for you." Scorpius shook his head at his friend as Rose decided she needed to change the subject. Like now.
"Lils, your essay's fine, I fixed what I saw but you need to go over your Defense spells against Magical Creatures more. Like, you mention something about using a declawing spell on hippogriffs, but you're completely ignoring the fact that your first step would be to immobilize the thing." She said, handing it back over to her.
Lily sighed, rolling her eyes."I'll be fine, I think you're the only person Teddy expects to go overboard with stuff like that. I'm handing in it as is." She claimed, pouting
"This is important! You should take it seriously."
"Oh, yeah, because I do regularly run into wild hippogriffs. Say, Al, we still on for taking one home this weekend?" The others laughed as Rose began to pout.
"Right, make fun of me all you want, but you guys aren't the ones who haven't had to write an essay in half of your classes since last year," Rose smirked at them, cleaning off her plate with her wand as she finished dinner.
Hugo groaned," I still think it's bullshit that you get to grade papers instead of having to write them."
Al rolled his eyes as Rose grinned mockingly at them."Oh, don't forget, she only gets out of it because she tried to get Neville to dock points from an essay she had already handed in."
The rest of the group laughed at Rose as she collected her stuff, grumbling."You all suck, and I have to go tutor." She mumbled, thanking a House Elf for taking her plate as she stood up.
Al scrunched up his nose."They're still having you do that?"
She nodded, rolling her eyes."Mhm. McGonagall says it'll look good when I start applying to healer schools next year. I'm meeting with Tommy Mills, that sixth year Gryffindor? He says he needs helps with charms, but...I don't know. I feel like something weird about it."
Scorp intervened, raising an eyebrow."What do you mean, 'weird?'"
She shrugged, starting to look embarrassed."I don't know. Like...Like I try to show him something and he just kind of waves me off and starts to ask me questions about my life and about my day." She shrugged."I didn't even think he had any issues with charms, honestly." She shrugged cluelessly again before walking away, leaving Scorp and Al to share a look.
"Al." Scorp looked at him, with a blank face, after Rose had left.
"Mm?" Al replied, raising an eyebrow and smirking slightly.
"You know how you tell me you don't like it when I insult Rose?"
"Mm."
"Well, I'd like you to know I'm not calling her a fucking idiot because I respect you."
Al laughed, crossing his arms."It's not insulting if you're right. I'll talk to her later tonight." He said, rolling his eyes."I've never liked that smarmy git anyway, and I don't think Rose is going to be a fan after she realizes that he's wasting her precious studying time because he's dumb enough to think that Rose is thinking of anything else but her grades, OWLS, and healing school the second she enters the library."
Lily pouted, injecting herself into the conversation." Maybe it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if Rose got a boyfriend."
Al scoffed."If it was him, it might be."He continued to grumble about what a creep he thought he was. Th
Scorp laughed and nodded in agreement looking down and away from Al's eyes. Lily looked at him curiously, ready to bother them with more questions when Scorp cleared his throat and brought up Quidditch, arguably because he felt Lily's eyes stayed on him for just a second too late.
