chapter two - before space

Hey guys! I'm back with another chapter! So, I received some helpful criticism from a reader, so I decided to take their advice and write more of a filler chapter! Thank y'all for writing me reviews, even if you're constructively criticizing, as that's what they're for! Anyway, again, me and my friend AriIsDivergent are both making Among Us stories right now, so go read hers too!

This chapter is going to be a flashback from when cyan was recruited, and when the 10 crewmates ( or so we think ) all meet. Enjoy!

Cyan pov-

It was a regular day. I had just set up my station and immediately got to work examining a few microorganisms my boss had given for me to identify.

"You're really good at this," I heard someone say suddenly from behind me.

"What?" I asked, startled.

"I'm sorry if I scared you," The voice continued.

I turned around, and saw it was a man who looked about 20. He had bright orange hair, but otherwise seemed like a shy person. His eyes darted around the lab, and he seemed as if he was waiting for someone.

"No, you're fine," I assured him.

"Anyways, I'm here with some other people from NASA," He went on, "I'm a doctor, but the other guys are recruiters."

"Oh!" I said, surprised. I forgot about that.

"Yeah, and-" He suddenly turned around, "There they are!" He smiled, his facial features warming.

"Hello Cyan," A louder, deeper voice boomed.

I had never seen this man before. Frankly, I should have, given I applied for this mission ages ago, and it was common courtesy to know your future boss's name. I guess I'd just have to wing this interview.

"Hello sir!" I smiled cheerily.

"Mr. Big," He stated, "But you already knew that." He grinned.

"Nice to finally meet you in person Mr. Big," I calmly said, trying not to freak.

"It's my pleasure. I understand you know why we're here?" He gestured behind him to Orange and 2 other people I should probably know.

"I applied for the mission a few months ago," I replied. At least I knew that much.

"Precisely," He glanced at Orange, "Orange, could you grab my journal?"

"Of course sir," He muttered.

"Thank you. So Cyan, we want you on our mission," He stated bluntly.

"Oh wow! Really?" I couldn't hide my surprise.

"Your work is exceptional," One of the recruiters behind Mr. Big commented.

"Very much so," Mr. Big agreed.

Orange then arrived with the journal, and quickly handed it to his boss, not looking him in the eye. Mr. Big simply took it and began to search for something.

"Here we are," He rifled through the book, "Ah. You are a biologist, correct?"

"That's me!" I laughed.

"Good. Seen here, like Ms. Riley said, your work is amazing. So let me put it this way. Are you still interested in this mission?" He looked me in the eye.

I thought for a second. It was the opportunity of a lifetime, so why was my brain telling me to hesitate?

"I'll do it," I sputtered, after a moment's hesitation.

"Brilliant!" He exclaimed, "Well we're going to need you down in Houston by Monday, I've got the tickets for that flight somewhere. We can give you more details on the mission later, but we do need you to sign this really fast…" He looked around in his journal.

"Oh I've got it sir," Orange blushed.

"That's where it went! Well, here you go Cyan."

I briefly read it. I was never the type to simply read disclaimers or waivers, but my mind kept on telling me to rethink everything, so I figured I might as well read it.

After reading, I looked up at Mr. Big with curiosity.

"Dead?" I stammered.

"If worst comes to worst. But, the care you will be under is excellent. I don't expect any injuries, much less deaths," His smile faltered, but he immediately plastered it back on.

"Alright."

And then I signed it.

-5 days later, in Houston, Texas-

"Here's the rest of the crew!" My NASA tour guide finished.

There were 9 others.

"Hi! You must be Cyan! I'm Pink, and this is my friend Purple!"

She gestured to a girl next to her.

"Hi! Did y'all just meet, or-"

"Oh my gosh! Crazy story. So, we literally met yesterday!" Pink giggled.

"That's crazy. I hope I get some friends here fast," I replied.

"The people here are nice," Purple chimed in.

"Not all of them!" A girl interrupted, "Hey, I'm Black, and I would just like to warn you of Red."

"Why?" I asked.

"She's a major bi-"

"What about me?" Another voice asked sharply.

"You know what I meant," Black replied.

"Red seems cool," Another voice defended.

"Oh, just because you think she's hot-" Black laughed.

"Honestly Green. You're such a simp," A girl agreed Black, "Oh, hi Cyan. I'm White."

"Nice to meet you! So, I guess there's a lot of drama here…" I trailed off.

"Yeah," Purple walked over next to me, "Have you met everyone yet?"

"Let me think," I started counting out loud, "I've met Pink, You, Orange, Red, Green, Black and White. That leaves two."

"Oh my gosh!" Purple realized, "You haven't met Blue yet!"

"Oh yeah! Do you know him well?"

"Uh…" She blushed, "We're dating,"

"Aww,"

"Oh, just come meet him," She rushed me over to him and another person I hadn't met.

"Babe, meet Cyan!" She gushed.

"Hey! I'm Blue, and this is Lime," He said, gesturing at the person I didn't know.

"Hi," Lime said bluntly, " Anyways, Blue, as I was saying…"

"Enough of them," Purple giggled, "So, I hope you like it here!"

"Me too!"

I was sure it would be enjoyable, for however long it lasts.
