25 Days of BeChloe Christmases - 2020
Day 19 - Do You Want To Build A Snowman?
Author's Prompt: Beca hates the snow; Chloe loves it. What happens when they are snowed in for their first Christmas together in New York.
It was Christmas Eve and Beca just found out her flight to Atlanta had been canceled. She continued to listen to the weather report on her laptop.
"The snow is expected to continue through tomorrow afternoon, dropping approximately twelve to fourteen inches before it's done. If you're planning to fly anywhere this Christmas Eve, the airlines recommend you call before heading to the airport as many flights have already been canceled for today and tomorrow."
Beca checked on her flight and then checked on Chloe's. Both were canceled.
"Looks like Chloe and I will both be spending Christmas in New York," Beca mumbled. "At least I won't be alone."
Beca closed her laptop just as Chloe came bounding in the door. She took off her coat and shook the snow off it before hanging it on the back of the door.
"It's really coming down out there," Chloe said, looking out the window. "Isn't it beautiful?"
"Not when flights are canceled because of it," Beca said. "I just checked our flights and both of ours have been canceled. It doesn't look like either of us is making it home for Christmas. I'd better call my dad and let him know."
"Oh, yeah," Chloe said. "I need to call my folks, too."
Beca and Chloe concluded their calls to the respective parents and Chloe fell back onto Amy's bed.
"I call dibs on Amy's bed while she's gone," Chloe called out.
Beca laughed as she fell back onto the pull-out bed. "That's fine. It just leaves more room for me over here."
"What?" Chloe said, sitting up and looking over at Beca. "I don't take up that much room. Do I?"
"If you go to bed before I get home," Beca said. "I usually come in to find you starfishing the bed. It's a good thing I'm small, so I can still be on the mattress when I climb into bed."
"Why don't you just wake me up and tell me to move over?" Chloe asked.
"Because you sleep like a log," Beca answered.
"Did you just call me a log?" Chloe said, glaring at Beca.
"No, I said-" Beca said, but her response was cut short when a pillow smacked her in the face. "Oh, now you're asking for it, Beale."
Beca threw her pillow at Chloe; Chloe grabbed it mid-air and jumped up. She used both hands to put it over her and then bring it down, hitting Beca in the body.
"Ahhh," Beca screamed, grabbing Chloe around the waist and throwing her on the bed.
Chloe laughed as she fell back onto the bed. Beca scrambled on top of Chloe and grabbed her flailing arms, holding them over Chloe's head.
"I've got you now," Beca huffed out.
"And what exactly are you going to do with me?" Chloe asked, winking at Beca
Beca quickly let go of Chloe's arms, her face warm from the blush that crept up her cheeks. Chloe laughed and Beca jumped up and ran into the bathroom, closing the door behind her. She leaned against the door and let out a long breath as she ran a hand through her hair. She was feeling things she shouldn't be feeling for her best friend. And, she just realized, it wasn't the first time.
Beca let out a yelp when Chloe tapped on the bathroom door.
"Beca?"
"What, Chloe?"
"Do you wanna build a snowman?" Chloe asked through the door. "Come on let's go out and play."
Beca huffed out a laugh. She opened the door to see Chloe standing there with a big smile on her face.
"You're so weird," Beca said.
"Thanks!"
~~ Day 19 of the 25 Days of BeChloe Christmases - 2020 ~~
"Where are we going?" Beca asked as they stepped outside their building.
"Central Park," Chloe said. "We can join everyone else who is building a snowman. Maybe we'll join in a snowball fight, too."
Chloe shifted the bag in her left hand to her right and wrapped her left arm around Beca's right.
"What's in the bag?" Beca asked.
"Everything we need to make the best snowman in all of New York, of course," Chloe said.
"Of course," Beca said, smiling at Chloe.
When Beca and Chloe reached Central Park, Chloe stopped and looked around.
"Let's go that way," Chloe said, pointing to the left.
Beca followed Chloe and they found a clear area to build their snowman. Beca had no idea what to do, so she watched as Chloe formed a snowball and started rolling it in the snow. The ball got bigger and Beca went over to Chloe to help push the large round snowman bottom into position.
They stopped and Chloe said, "This is where our snowman is going to live."
"Now what?" Beca asked.
"Haven't you ever built a snowman before?"
"No."
"How could you go through life without having built a snowman?"
"How can you be from Tampa and seen enough snow to build a snowman?"
"My grandparents live in Colorado," Chloe said. "We spent Christmas there a lot when I was a kid. Now answer my question."
"We had snow in Portland," Beca said with a shrug. "But I never had any friends or family around who wanted to spend time in the snow. And that's why I've never built a snowman."
"How did this never come up when we were at Barden?" Chloe asked, frowning at Beca. "This makes me so sad."
"Let's get back to this snowman," Beca said, causing Chloe to smile. "He's not going to build himself."
Chloe bent down and grabbed to hands full of snow and started forming a ball. Beca watched, expecting Chloe to start rolling it around to make a bigger snowball for their snowman.
Chloe held the snowball in one hand and packed it down with the other. She looked at Beca.
"What are you going to do with that?" Beca asked, pointing to the snowball in Chloe's hand.
Chloe got a predatory smile on her face.
"Chloe, don't!" Beca said, taking a step back. "I know that look. That's the same look you had when you invaded my shower."
Chloe laughed and tossed the ball up in the air and caught it; she did this a couple of times. Each time the snowball went into the air, Beca took a step back, shaking her head.
"Bad Chloe," Beca said, laughing. "Don't do it. There will be repercussions."
"What kind of repercussions?" Chloe asked, smirking.
"I, uh, I won't buy you any hot chocolate on the way home," Beca said, going in a circle as she kept Chloe in front of her.
Chloe looked as if she was thinking about it.
"I can buy my own hot chocolate," Chloe said, and threw the snowball, hitting Beca in the chest.
Beca yelped and grabbed a handful of snow and threw it at Chloe. Chloe threw up her arms and squealed; the snow hit her hands causing snow to fall in her hair and on her face.
"It's on now, Mitchell," Chloe yelled, throwing another snowball at Beca and missing.
"Gotta have better aim than that, Beale," Beca taunted.
Seconds later a snowball hit Beca in the side of the head. She immediately focused her glare on Chloe.
"That wasn't me," Chloe said, pointing to another group who joined them.
Snowballs started flying in from all directions as more people joined in. Beca and Chloe found themselves in the middle of the snowball battle. Snowballs were flying fast and furious. Beca looked over at Chloe and couldn't help but smile as she watched Chloe laugh and smile while dodging and throwing snowballs.
Chloe wasn't looking at Beca, so Beca decided to get Chloe back for the earlier hit to her chest. She grabbed more snow and started forming the snowball, packing it down.
"Beca!"
Beca hears Chloe scream her name just before Chloe barreled into her, throwing them both to the ground. Beca let out an "Ooomph!" as Chloe landed on top of her.
Beca shook her head to clear it, only to find Chloe staring down at her. Chloe's body was fully laying on Beca, and her face was mere inches from Beca's. Beca blinked and quickly glanced down at Chloe's lips.
"What was that for?" Beca asked softly, staring up into Chloe's face.
"There was an incoming missile," Chloe said smiling. "It was going straight for your head. I saved you. You're welcome."
"My hero,' Beca said as she leaned up and closed the distance between them, giving Chloe a quick kiss, surprising them both. Chloe recovered first and slammed her lips onto Beca's.
Beca wrapped her arms around Chloe's back, holding her in place. Chloe's gloved fingers caressed Beca's cheeks.
The kiss ended and Chloe leaned her cheek against Beca's.
"I'm ready for some hot chocolate," Chloe said.
"Me, too," Beca said.
"We have all the ingredients to make our own at home," Chloe said.
"Then let's go home," Beca said.
Chloe moved off Beca and stood. She held her hand out to Beca and pulled her up. The two then made their way back to their apartment.
"We never did finish our snowman," Beca said.
"That's okay," Chloe said, laying her head on Beca's shoulder. "The snow will still be here tomorrow."
Chloe laughed and started dancing around Beca as she sang "Do You Wanna Build a Snowman?"
