Hello all! I am so overwhelmed by the love this has received. I hope you enjoy this new chapter, I have a lot more chapters written so keep an eye out. I will be taking a poll later about a certain decision regarding a chapter.

Chapter Nine: The Attack

The couple strode into the boardroom to find two gentlemen waiting for them.

"Ah here they are" Toga said standing up "Mr. Moors this is my son and heir Sesshomaru Taisho and our education director, Serena Luna."

"Please call me Ozias" the man stated. He shook their hands, grasping a moment longer onto Serena's hand. It went unnoticed by all except Serena who felt a cold shiver go down her spine. 'Why does he seem familiar? He gives no aura of being from one of the planetarium kingdoms though he could hide it like I do.'

"Serena you said? What an interesting name"

"Thank you" she replied carefully. Toga smiled and motioned for everyone to sit "Shall we?"

"Yes" the man replied, "as I mentioned to you Mr. Taisho I represent an extremely powerful individual who has a very keen interest in your company" staring at Serena.

"Who?" Serena questioned.

The man shook his head "I'm sorry but he wishes to remain anonymous." Sesshomaru nodded understanding how many wealthy individuals did not know want everyone to know where they invested their money. He was the same way with his investments, hence why their family remained as wealthy as they were. Sesshomaru had an extremely diverse portfolio including numerous properties, businesses and restaurants.

"He would like me to hear your plans before he makes his decision. He is extremely particular in what interests he pursues" Mr. Moors said. Toga motioned to Serena to present him with her outline and the details of the program. Sesshomaru felt proud of his woman and all the hard work she had put into this program. Moors watched her every move intently, Sesshomaru did not like it. He despised the way most men stared at her, letting their eyes wander over her body. He shook his head focusing on her words. Serena took them through how the school would be structured, how it would run and what the children would be learning both practical and demon skills.

"As you can see, all the children that have graduated from the academy in years past have gone on to exceptional careers. We predict with this new model we will see this number rise even higher."

"Alright" he said "I'll take this all back to my client and we will be in touch very soon" pointedly looking at Serena. "You have no questions?" she asked.

"Oh I have quite a few questions but none for now Miss Luna"

Behind Sesshomaru and Toga's back, he leered at her. She couldn't tell her if he was just creepy or she should be nervous. 'What is his problem?' she thought. After he left, Serena couldn't shake the feeling something was off. For such a big donation, that meeting went too quickly. She was unsure of whether it could be attributed to the use of the crystal or just happenstance.

"Serena?" Sesshomaru said touching her shoulder. He had been trying to get her attention for a couple of minutes. She jumped slightly "I'm sorry but did that seem too quick?" she asked gesturing to where the man sat "For such a large donation, he didn't seem to have any questions or concerns."

Toga smiled brushing it off "your presentation was in-depth my dear"

"I suppose" she hesitated casting a nervous glance to the elevator. Sesshomaru leaned in and nuzzled her neck in an attempt to calm her 'our mate is anxious, something is making her nervous' his beast growled. His nuzzling worked, he felt her calming down. She smiled at him, silently thanking him for calming her nerves. Maybe she was being paranoid. She turned to Toga.

"I'm sorry Toga what were you saying before?"

He nodded and repeated his earlier question.

"I was just telling Sesshomaru that everyone is already at the house why don't you join us for dinner this evening." Sesshomaru liked the idea of her being in his home with his family, he would like it even more if she lived there. He smiled down at her, hoping she would agree to come.

"That sounds lovely. I just need to change so why don't I meet you both there?" she replied.

Sesshomaru wrapped his arms around her "I'll come with you"

"Oh boy give the girl some space" Toga teased "I want you to mate her but you don't need to do it right now"

Serena blushed and tried to hide her face in his chest.

"Amusing, father" he growled

Serena laughed and patted his chest "I'll be fine. Go home and see Rin, I know how she misses you during the day."

He narrowed his eyes staring at her for a few moments before relaxing "alright but do not be gone long. Rin misses her Mama as well" he brushed the hair away from her face "she has not been happy not seeing you. She asked for you every night." He nuzzled her neck taking in a deep breath of her scent.

She smiled, ecstatic that he called her Rin's mother. Yes, they had just admitted their feelings but she felt like she had known him her whole life. That was the effect of the link, once you found your soul match it didn't matter how short of a time you were together. You always felt like they had been there your whole life. Inu demons were also notorious for moving quickly in a relationship, once their beast had been awoken by their true mate it was not uncommon for the pair to be mated within a month or two. The two races were similar in that way, they didn't believe in prolonged engagements when it was already clear that they were destined to be together. When you find the one you want to spend the rest of your life with, you want the rest of your life to start immediately.

"I also wish to pick up where we left off" he whispered in her ear causing a shiver to go down her spine.

Toga groaned audibly "I'm right here!" He grabbed the back of his son's shirt pulling him away grumbling "like a damn pup in heat." Pushing an annoyed Sesshomaru into the elevator. He turned and waved "we will see you soon my dear."

Serena laughed at their antics. She went to her office to grab a few things before leaving. Family dinners. Being a mama. She smiled, it was all she ever wanted but never thought she could have. Sion took that from her. But maybe just maybe now she could. With him. Pausing she thought back to the meeting. 'It has been fifty years, maybe I'm being paranoid. But I can't be too careful' she thought 'I'll have Koga's security guys do some digging for me.'

Feeling satisfied with her decision, she turned off the lights and made her way to the underground parking. She could not wait to get back to her family and be in Sesshomaru's arms. Looking around the garage was empty, she was the last one to leave it seemed. The moment she stepped in, a wave of uneasiness washed over her. Keeping her head on a constant swivel, she made her quickly to her car. The sooner she was on the road the better.

"Hello Miss Luna" said a deep voice. Serena froze and turned dropping her phone and keys in the process. She was shaking. Mr. Moors emerged from the darkness. She placed a hand to her chest.

"Mr. Moors, what are you doing here?" she questioned "did you forget something? Unfortunately we are closed." She looked around but there was no one there. 'Something about him isn't right.' He stepped closer trapping her between his body and the car.

"I still don't know if it is you but" and in an instant pulled a dagger and stabbed in the side of her stomach. In that moment she realized he found her, Sion found her and sent Ozias to kill her. She gasped and grunted in pain.

"I guess we will find out, is it you Princess?"

Tears sprung to her eyes as he yanked out the blade. She cried out in pain as her hands automatically pressed against the wound. Her upturned crescent moon appeared on her forehead. Her shocked expression turned to the man who had stabbed her as he laughed.

"Well I guess Sion was right little moon Princess" he wiped the blade off and turned to leave "we will see you soon, enjoy that and I do hope you recover." He laughed disappearing into the shadows.

Her energy fell dramatically as blood spilled from her wound staining her clothes. Serena slid down to the ground, she ripped the sleeve from her shirt and wrapped it around her middle tightening it. She needed to stanch the bleeding quickly. Serena took deep breathes wincing at the pain every time she did. After a few minutes of pressure, she checked the dressing. She was still bleeding but now she noticed it wasn't just a stab wound. The wound had turned the skin around it a purple-black colour. Poison. Meant to kill her? Or just weaken her energy enough that Sion could take her and steal the crystal? What was his plan? She tried to call the crystal but nothing happened.

Her energy had fallen too low, the crystal took energy from her to be used. Any use of the silver crystal cost the protector energy thus deterring any from using it for anything other than extreme circumstances. If she had no energy then the crystal had nothing to pull from rendering it useless at this moment. Her body healed relatively quickly but poison? She had no idea what would happen. The crystal wouldn't allow her to die being the sole heir and protector. But she couldn't use it to heal, would she be stuck in limbo? Or would this be how Sion got her? He would take her and she would just disappear, her family never knowing what happened.

Her phone began to flash beside her. KAGOME. She groaned, she couldn't go there. They would smell the blood and that would put them all at risk. She would have to pick up and make some excuse.

Serena picked up her phone, her hand covered in blood. She put the phone up to her ear and immediately heard Kagome's worried voice.

"Serena? Where are you? Sesshomaru and Dad have been home for a while now"

"Hi Kagome" she bit back a pained gasp standing up, fumbling with her keys. She needed to get back upstairs. She stumbled into the elevator and pressed the number for her floor using her elbow. She couldn't let blood spill anywhere or they would know instantly in the morning what happened.

"Are you okay?" she sounded concerned. She heard everyone asking questions in the background and Kagome hushing them.

"Yes, yes" she could feel her skin getting clammy "I think I caught the flu or something." She stumbled back to her office feeling weaker and weaker, she'd stay here until she could gain some energy back.

"Oh no" Kagome replied "are you alright?" She heard Sesshomaru growling in the background demanding to speak to her. If Sesshomaru knew something was off, he would be here in a flash. She couldn't risk pulling him into this, not with Rin. It wouldn't be fair.

"Tell him I'm okay, I'm just going to go home"

"Are you sure? Why don't you – hey Sesshomaru! Give that back"

A deep voice took over.

"What's wrong little star?" concern evident in his tone.

"Nothing I think I just caught a stomach bug" She bit back a hiss as she undressed. She wiped her hands off on her shirt. She was thankful at that moment that she always left a set of work and comfy clothes in her office. She shoved her clothing into the garbage can. Serena hated lying to him but if Sion knew where she was then she wasn't going to lead him to her new family. He would use them against her, she had to protect them.

She looked down, blood dripping down her side. She tried to wipe it pressing gauze from her first aid kit to the wound. She would have to burn it all later so they wouldn't smell it in the morning. Pressing hard to try and stop the bleeding, she bit back a scream and fell to her knees. Dressing the wound, she sat leaning against the window trying to keep from groaning in exhausted pain.

"You were fine early" he questioned, "do you want me to come get you?" She knew he would already be grabbing his keys.

Serena lit a match throwing it into the garbage can, watching her clothes and bloodied gauze burn. That should get rid of the smell hopefully, now how was she going to get out of here before morning?

"No!" she answered quickly "no I don't want to pass it to everyone. It came on very suddenly. I probably just have what Rin did"

"Okay" she heard the disappointment in his voice. She heard the clink of his keys being tossed back where they were.

"You will call me later" he instructed not entirely convinced he shouldn't show up anyways.

"I will, give Rin a big kiss for me?" tears welled up in her eyes and her lip trembled. 'Is this the last time I'll hear his voice?' she thought.

"I will" he said softly

"Goodbye." She hung up quickly and cried in pain. Whatever he coated that poison in was working its way into her system fast. Hot tears poured down her skin as her body was racked with pain. She laid curled up on the cool ground and for the first time in many years, cried for her mother.

****With Sesshomaru****

He glared at the phone before tossing it back to Kagome. She scowled back at him.

"Everything alright?" asked Izayoi

"Yes, I think" he picked up Rin walking back to the dining room

"So where is she?" Koga inquired

"Mama?" asked Rin looking hopeful.

Kagome replied "She's sick, she is going home. Doesn't want to give it to the kids"

"Hn" Sesshomaru looked to his daughter sensing her disappointment. She had been excited that Serena was coming for dinner and that they were finally a couple. Rin kept asking when they would mate and have a baby. She loved her mama. She had told Sesshomaru that she knew from the start that Serena was to be her mother.

They all sat down for dinner, Koga looked to his friend. Koga could see he was restless, everything in him probably was calling for him to go to her.

"You don't believe her?" he asked

"She didn't sound right" Sesshomaru answered. She had been fine when he left her, she didn't smell of sickness then either.

'Something is wrong with our mate' his beast roared 'we should go to her'

Inuyasha joined the conversation "yea cause she is probably puking"

He glared in response. Suddenly standing, he announced "I'm going to check on her"

A hand shot up and stopped him, "you heard her, she doesn't want to spread it" Kagome argued, "you could bring it home and give it to Rin." Sesshomaru looked to his dear daughter, no he didn't want that. She just recovered. Sango piped up giving him a comforting look "I'm sure she will be fine. We'll all go in extra early tomorrow to make sure she is okay."

Everyone agreed to get up early and be in the office before anyone else got there.

Sesshomaru grumbled sitting back down. He didn't like it but he did have Rin to think of and he knew she would give me hell to pay if he showed up and then got Rin sick. He couldn't shake that feeling though. His brows furrowed going over their conversation, her voice sounded a little strained.

"Man you are whipped" Inuyasha piped up, Sesshomaru glared at him, "a hundred bucks says she is mated by the end of the month"

"Shut up half breed" he growled

The family laughed taking bets on when he would mate her. Koga had two hundred on before school started.
