AshBenzoLove: Ahh, thanks so much, that makes me so happy to hear! And here's your latest update!
Boris Yeltsin: Thank you! Oh my gosh, sooo many others! Just a few of my favorites off the top of my head are Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, Jane the Virgin, Nashville, The Fosters/Good Trouble, The Vampire Diaries/The Originals/Legacies, Revenge, The Bold Type, Hart of Dixie, All American, and, of course, Friends and The Office. I could also create a list of just ABC Family/Freeform shows that I loved that were cancelled prematurely: The Lying Game(!), Make It Or Break It, Famous in Love, Jane by Design, Bunheads, Chasing Life, Twisted, and Party of Five. This is why I have basically given up on Freeform, and am just continuing to watch shows I have watched from the start, but don't plan on starting any new shows: they let shows run on for way too long and get terrible (PLL), yet don't let good shows go on for longer than a season. So frustrating!
DuncneyLoveOfMyLife: Yes, Dorota's the best! And Spencer's the worst! I saw an Instagram post the other day saying, "If you don't think Spanna is the best friendship, then you're wrong," or something like that, and I just laughed. Like, if you seriously think they still have a good friendship after Spencer completely shattered girl code and dated not just a friend's ex, but literally the love of her life and her future husband (everyone knew it, even when Hanna was engaged to Boring), then you're delusional. I'm still so angry about it. If I haven't forgiven her, then I doubt Hanna has. And I promise, Ashley will get better...eventually.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who still ships Tyshley. I was SO hoping for a public birthday message from Tyler to Ashley and I'm devastated that it never happened. (I'm sure he texted/called/Facetimed/all of the above, but I wanted to see one!) And then I had G-Abuser's birthday message to Ashley pop up on my feed not once, but twice, and I wanted to throw up. ASHLEY, PLEASE LEAVE HIM, YOU CAN DO SO MUCH BETTER! Even if it's not Tyler. But, let's be real, it should be Tyler. He's your soulmate, remember?
I can't believe that the next time I update, Christmas will be over! That makes me so sad! Christmas is my favorite time of year and I'm not ready for it to be over. :( But Happy Holidays to all, and please be smart and stay safe!
"Sorry about the other day," Hanna apologized as Caleb ran around, packing stuff last-minute. "I can't believe you had to face my mom all alone. You're lucky she didn't murder you."
"I think this is a sign we should stop hanging out at your house," he replied. "In the last two times we've been there, your husband almost walked in on us the first time, and then your mom actually did walk in on me."
She snorted. She already knew how he felt about going to her house - this was just another excuse for him not to have to.
"But sorry I blew our cover," he apologized. "I had no idea she was there until she was already in the kitchen with me. Does she just randomly come into your house often?" he asked with a confused look on his face. He couldn't imagine having that close of a relationship with his mother to even give her a key to his house, let alone having her think it was okay to just barge in with no warning.
"Yes!" Hanna exclaimed in exasperation. "I gave her that key for emergencies, but she just comes in whenever she feels like it. She doesn't seem to understand boundaries, and I'm sorry you got stuck in the middle of it."
"It wasn't so bad," he said, shrugging. "Your mom's a total MILF, and I definitely saw her checking me out." He smirked at Hanna as he waited for her reaction.
It was true. He wasn't usually into older women, but Ashley Marin could definitely have passed as Hanna's sister.
"Excuse me?" she retorted, raising her eyebrows. "You did not just say that."
"Sorry, Han, but it's true: your mom's hot."
"Ew!" Hanna exclaimed, horrified. "Now I'm just imagining you with my mom." She shuddered at the thought.
"Well, then, don't do that!" he laughed.
"I can't help it, you just said my mom's hot, and that she was checking you out!"
"Your mom is hot, Han. Not as hot as you, though," he murmured, running his hand down her side. "But you obviously got your good looks from her. And, of course she was checking me out. I'm sure I looked pretty hot in my underwear. I know you think so." He winked at her. "Maybe I can...convince your mother to give us her blessing," he said, smirking at her. He loved messing with her like this.
"Ew, ew, ew!" Hanna cried. "I forbid you from sleeping with my mother! I know we're obviously not exclusive, and I don't get to tell you who you can and can't be with, but I think this is one rule I have the right to enforce!"
"So you think your mom would go for me?" he teased her further.
"You know what, I'm changing the rule!" Hanna exclaimed. "You can't even try to sleep with my mother!"
He laughed at the horrified expression on her face. Ashley Marin was hot, but he only had eyes for one Marin woman. He just loved teasing that one Marin woman.
"Don't worry, I have no plans of having sex with your mother," he assured her. "Even if she is a MILF."
She shoved him lightly at this comment, rolling her eyes.
"And by the way," he told her, all joking aside, his tone serious now. "You don't have to worry about telling me who I can and can't be with. There's no one else, Han."
"Really?" she asked softly.
He just nodded in response, shooting her a small smile. It was true. He hadn't been with anyone else since that one night with Bridget Wu, when he realized that he just wasn't interested in anyone but Hanna.
He knew it was dangerous to be this committed to her while she was married. And it wasn't that he was intentionally staying exclusive to her; it's just that he had no interest in any other women, not when Hanna was literally everything he had ever wanted. Except for the whole unavailable part, of course.
Hanna knew that she shouldn't be as relieved about this fact as she was. It wasn't fair of her to hope for him to be with just her, when she most definitely was not with just him; she had a marriage, a husband whose back she was sneaking around behind.
So she was quiet as Caleb finished packing his things. He was such a guy. Of course, he would wait until the very last possible minute.
"Did you remember your phone charger?" she asked him a couple minutes later.
"I did," he confirmed, giving her an odd look.
"What about toothpaste?"
"Uh, huh."
He smiled to himself at the realization that she was acting like such a wife. Well, his wife.
"Shampoo?"
"Babe, yes," he laughed.
"Just checking. You'd forget your head if it wasn't attached." He shook his head, chuckling; she really did know him well.
"We're taking my car, right?" Hanna confirmed as they were finally walking out the front door of Caleb's house.
"What do you have against my Jeep?" Caleb asked, a mock-offended expression on his face.
"I love your Jeep," she countered. "But mine has more leg room. And, you know, doors. Which I appreciate on a long road trip," she said pointedly.
"Fine," he huffed, chuckling. "We can take yours, I guess."
She rolled her eyes, as he opened the back of her Range Rover to put his overnight bag with hers.
They were finally getting away, just the two of them. They were heading to Lancaster County for the weekend, home of the Amish. They were both excited to be able to go out in public, to go out on real dates, without worrying about running into people they knew.
They had only been driving for a few minutes, when Caleb looked down and noticed the gas gauge was on "Empty."
"Uh, Hanna," he said slowly. "You have no gas."
"What are you talking about?" she questioned, leaning over to look herself, confirming what he had just told her. "Oh."
"Yeah. 'Oh,'" he agreed. "When was the last time you got gas?"
Hanna thought back, but she actually couldn't remember.
"Weeeelll," she drew out the word. "Usually I just wait until it starts beeping and then I know it's time."
He looked at her, deadpan. "Tell me you're joking?"
"No?" she said it almost as a question, a guilty expression on her face. He rolled his eyes.
"Well, it's not beeping yet. There's a gas station about two miles from here – do you think we'll make it?" he asked her.
"Definitely," she said confidently. "I always make it way further on empty than you would expect."
He didn't reply, just rolled his eyes again. They drove for another minute or two, when it started beeping.
He looked over at her silently.
"We'll be fine," she assured him.
Another couple of minutes later, and they were not fine.
Caleb managed to pull the car over to the side of the road before it died completely.
"Sooo," Caleb said, turning his head to look at Hanna.
"Sooo," Hanna agreed, pulling a face. "I seriously thought we'd make it," she defended quickly.
He didn't reply, and instead opened the car door to get out.
"Where are you going?" she asked hurriedly.
"Um, to the gas station," he said slowly, drawing out "gas station" to emphasize how obvious it was.
"You can't just leave me here!" she objected worriedly.
"You'll be fine," he said shortly. "I'll lock the doors and everything."
"No," she argued. "I'm not about to sit here on the side of the road. I could get murdered."
"Well, then come with me!" he exclaimed, throwing his hands up in the air in frustration. This wasn't that complicated. They needed gas if they wanted to be able to drive, and they needed to get gas from the gas station.
"In these shoes?" she asked incredulously, lifting one of her feet so he could see her heel.
"Why are you even wearing those shoes in the first place?" he exclaimed, irritated. "Who wears shoes like that on a road trip?"
"Hey, I wear three inches or I wear nothing," she retorted.
"Well, then what are we supposed to do?" he asked her. "If you refuse to come with me, and you refuse to let me go?"
"I have an idea," Hanna said simply, pulling out her cell phone as Caleb sat back down and closed the door.
She called Spencer, but, unsurprisingly, she didn't answer. They had hardly spoken at all since Spencer found out about her and Caleb. Spencer was not at all pleased to learn that Hanna was having an affair, and her inability to be reached proved that. Plus, they had both said some pretty hurtful things to each other in the heat of the moment. But Hanna knew she hadn't meant what she said, and she hoped Spencer hadn't, either.
"SOS," she texted her, knowing their SOS rule would make it impossible for Spencer to ignore her. She knew Spencer would not be pleased when she learned what this SOS was for, though.
Spencer called Hanna back less than a minute later, clearly abiding by their friendship rules, regardless of her opinions of Hanna's recent life decisions.
"What's going on?" Spencer asked as soon as Hanna answered.
"Where are you right now?" Hanna replied, putting the phone on speaker so Caleb could listen in.
"I'm at work," Spencer replied in a "duh" tone. "I thought there was an SOS; what's up?"
"There is an SOS," Hanna agreed. "I really need you to do me a favor."
"What is it?" Spencer asked, irritated. "I'm working on a really big case right now – this better be important."
"Well, I kind of ran out of gas," Hanna admitted sheepishly.
Spencer rolled her eyes - not that Hanna could see her - completely unsurprised. She knew how bad Hanna was about filling her gas tank.
"Of course you did."
"I really need you to run to a gas station and bring me a can of gas," Hanna rushed out pleadingly. "I'm stranded on the side of the road!"
"Hanna, I seriously don't have time for this," Spencer replied.
"It'll take you, like, half an hour, max!" Hanna promised. "I really need you!"
"Why don't you just call your boy toy?" Spencer retorted, her voice laced with judgment and disapproval.
Hanna hesitated. Obviously, she knew she couldn't hide the fact that she was with Caleb – Spencer would see him when she brought the gas. But she still felt awkward.
"I can't…exactly call Caleb," Hanna informed Spencer, speaking slowly, glancing over at Caleb.
"Hey, Spencer!" Caleb called out into the speaker phone, alerting her of his presence.
"Seriously, Hanna?!" Spencer replied immediately. "You and your secret, forbidden lover run out of gas, and it's my responsibility to bail you out?"
Caleb and Hanna exchanged amused glances at "secret, forbidden lover."
"Look, Spence, I wouldn't have called if I wasn't desperate. I don't have many options on who I can call right now, given who I'm with. I need you! I'll owe you one! Please?" she begged. She really was desperate.
"Fine," Spencer gave in begrudgingly. "Where are you?"
"Thank you, thank you!" Hanna called out as she sent Spencer her location.
"Do you not understand how irresponsible and reckless this is, Hanna? Do I need to fill your gas every time now? What if I wasn't with you?"
It was a few minutes later, and they were still waiting for Spencer to bring them gas.
"If you weren't with me, then I would have called you instead of Spencer," Hanna replied.
"And I would have been worried sick about you the entire time it took me to get to you," he said, looking at her meaningfully.
She grabbed his hand, rubbing her thumb gently against the back of it.
"Well, lucky for me, you were with me," she said gently. "I have you here to keep me safe. But I'll be more careful from now on, I promise."
"Thank you," he replied softly. He just wanted her to understand that he worried about her, and he just wanted to protect her.
Their moment was interrupted by a tapping on Caleb's window.
He opened the door to Spencer holding a gas can, and tapping her foot impatiently.
"Spencer, thank you sooo much!" Hanna called out to her from the passenger seat. "You're the best!"
"Thank you, Spencer," Caleb agreed. "You seriously saved us."
She shoved the gas can at him, an unhappy look on her face.
"Well, just so you both know, this does not mean that I approve of what you're doing! I think this is totally wrong, and I am not okay with it, at all!" she exclaimed.
"Alright, well thanks again for the gas, Spence!" Hanna brushed her off. She knew that what they were doing was wrong; she didn't need to be constantly reminded of it. But she just didn't want to give Caleb up. "I'm sure you have to get back to work now, so we'll see you around!"
Spencer rolled her eyes and gave a sarcastic wave goodbye before making her way back to her car that was parked behind Hanna's Range Rover.
"We need snacks. Every good road trip has snacks."
They were currently stopped at a gas station to fill the gas tank completely.
"Fine. You can go grab snacks, while I gas up the car," he told Hanna shortly. He was still frustrated with her for being so irresponsible.
"What do you want?" she asked him.
"I don't really care," he told her. "Just get whatever you want."
By the time Caleb was done filling the gas tank, Hanna still wasn't back, so he went into the convenience store to find her.
He spotted her in one of the aisles, her hands full of different bags and containers.
"Seriously?" he asked, grabbing a bunch of the snacks from her before she dropped them all. "It's not even that long of a drive, Han."
"Well, I like to have options," she replied.
He looked down at the snacks in his hands.
"So you need three different types of chocolate chip cookies?" he retorted.
"I don't know which one's the best, so I had to get them all!" she argued.
"Whatever," he sighed. "Are you ready?"
She looked around the small store anxiously, worried she may have missed some essential snacks.
"Yeah, I guess so," she finally said.
They paid for their snacks before making their way back out to the car. Caleb was unusually quiet, and Hanna could tell he was still upset with her.
So after they had been driving for a couple of minutes, Hanna turned down the radio and asked, "Are you gonna be mad at me the whole weekend? Because if you are, then we should just turn around and go home, because we won't be able to have any fun if you won't even talk to me."
"I'm not...mad at you, Han," he said gently, glancing over at her briefly before turning back to watch the road. "I'm just...frustrated. With...all of this. I was really looking forward to this weekend with you, and this is not the way I wanted it to start."
She reached over and placed a hand on his upper thigh, squeezing gently.
"Well, me, neither," she said softly. "But we can't let it ruin the whole weekend. I'm really excited for it, too. We can hold hands at dinner, and I can kiss you in public..." she trailed off, looking at him expectantly, finally seeing the smile that she had been waiting for.
"That sounds perfect," he agreed.
"It's my car, so obviously I get to pick!"
"Well I'm driving, so I think it should be my choice!"
Hanna giggled as Caleb kept messing with the radio, blocking it with his hand so she couldn't reach it.
"Fine," she said, grabbing her phone and connecting it to the Bluetooth.
She scrolled through her music before settling on some Taylor Swift. She watched his reaction as he realized what she had done.
"That is so not fair!" he gasped, pulling his hand back from the radio to squeeze her knee gently.
"Sorry," she giggled again. "But I told you it's my car, so I know how to control it to get what I want."
"Yeah, you're used to getting what you want, aren't you, babe?" he glanced over at her.
She just smirked in response before turning up the music, singing along at the top of her lungs.
"Long live the walls we crashed through
All the kingdom lights shined just for me and you
I was screaming, 'long live all the magic we made'
And bring on all the pretenders
One day we will be remembered"
He couldn't help but grin at her as she sang along, not missing a single word. He seriously didn't think she could get any more adorable, but then she proved him wrong again and again.
"This is Taylor's best album - you know that, right?"
"I don't even know what this is," he admitted, to Hanna's chagrin. "I mean, I know it's Taylor Swift, and I recognize the song, but I don't know what album it is, nor do I have an opinion on which of her albums is best."
She looked over at him, horrified. How could he not love Taylor Swift?
"This is from Speak Now," she informed him. "It's her third album. Red and Fearless are up there, too, but Speak Now is definitely the best. It has 'Sparks Fly', 'Back to December', 'Mine,' 'Last Kiss', 'Mean'-"
"Oh, yeah, 'Mean,' I know that one," he cut her off.
She rolled her eyes. Of course, he would only appreciate the most popular, overplayed song on the album, not any of the true masterpieces.
"Well, all of Taylor's songs are amazing, not just the ones they play on the radio," she scoffed. "She is a lyrical genius."
He smiled softly as he glanced over at her again. He hadn't realized before just how passionate she was about Taylor Swift.
To prove her point that all of Taylor's songs were great, she turned up the radio again as a new song began.
"I walked through the door with you, the air was cold
But something 'bout it felt like home somehow and I
Left my scarf there at your sister's house
And you still got it in your drawer even now"
Several songs later, after Hanna felt like Caleb had had enough of Taylor Swift, and her singing along obnoxiously to Taylor Swift, she scrolled through her music again to find something new to listen to.
She knew Caleb was going to like her next music choice even less than Taylor, but she wanted to see his reaction.
"You know you love me, I know you care
Just shout whenever and I'll be there
You are my love, you are my heart
And we will never, ever, ever be apart"
"Shit, Hanna, is this Justin Bieber?" he asked her, disgusted.
She didn't answer, just started singing along to the chorus that would give him his definitive answer.
"And I was like baby, baby, baby oh
Like baby, baby, baby no
Like baby, baby, baby oh
I thought you'd always be mine, mine"
"Hanna, no," he said firmly. "I will not listen to this."
"Come on, Justin Bieber's an icon!" she objected, laughing.
"Isn't he only famous for, like, his hair?" he questioned.
She gasped. How dare he disrespect the Beebs like that?
"You know what, just don't talk about the Beebs, okay?" she snapped at him defensively. Her Bieber Fever phase may be long over, but that didn't mean she wouldn't still stand up for him. "You don't know the Beebs, you don't understand the Beebs. Or his hair."
Caleb let out a loud laugh at this, grinning at her. He seriously thought she was the most hilarious person he'd ever met; he loved when she just came out and said random shit like that.
"Okay, okay, I'm sorry," he gave in. "I'll stop making fun of 'The Beebs.' But seriously, Han, I'm not listening to this," he said, laughing. "I will turn this car around and bring us home."
"Oh my gosh, you're so dramatic," she sighed, rolling her eyes. "What if I told you that listening to Justin Bieber was the only thing that would make me happy?" she asked sweetly. She knew he wouldn't be able to deny her then.
"Well, then I guess we'd be listening to Justin Bieber." His eyes flicked over to her to catch her reaction, a satisfied little smile as she sighed contently.
"Good answer."
"But I don't think that's true, so if you could please pick something else, that would be great."
"Fine," she huffed, picking up her phone again to choose a new song.
She settled on a Bon Iver song before turning her attention back to Caleb.
He was wearing an expression that she couldn't quite read.
"You listen to Bon Iver?" he asked, his tone giving away his surprise.
"Uh, yeah..." she said tentatively. "I love them." Was there something wrong with that?
He didn't say anything for a few seconds.
"You know, you would seriously be, like, my perfect girl if it weren't for the whole husband thing." She could tell he was trying to sound nonchalant, but she could hear the unhappiness in his voice.
"Caleb," she trailed off, grabbing his hand, rubbing gentle circles with her thumb. "Please don't do this." She just wanted this weekend to be about them, and what they shared, not about everything they couldn't be.
"Don't do what?" he retorted. "Tell you how much I like you, how amazing I think you are?"
"Make me...feel guilty!" she replied. "Look, this isn't easy for me, either, Caleb. I've had to lie to everyone that I care about to be with you. But I've done it. I am doing it. Because I think you're worth it. But I'd really appreciate it if you didn't keep reminding me all the time what a terrible person I am."
"Han, you know that's not what I'm doing!" he argued. "You are not a terrible person. And I'm sorry if I made you feel that way. This is just really hard."
"I know," she said gently. "It's hard for me, too."
That statement could not have been more true.
"Oo, look, it's a Chick-fil-A!" Hanna exclaimed suddenly, pointing out the window. "Can we go? Please, please, please?" she begged Caleb.
Ever since their tense moment had passed, things between them had been good again. Hanna was still singing along to the music at the top of her lungs, while Caleb glanced over at her adoringly every once in a while.
"Han, you've been eating the entire drive," he reminded her. "Are you seriously hungry?"
"Are you judging me?" she asked him, deadpan.
He laughed. "No, I am not judging you. It's just that I have seen you completely naked - many times, actually - and I do not understand how you can eat like that," He gestured to all of the unhealthy snacks she had surrounding her, "And yet have a body like that." She knew he appreciated her body, and she appreciated how much he reminded her of it. No one had ever made her feel as sexy or as wanted as he did.
"I have a fast metabolism," she informed him. "So yes, I actually am hungry."
"Fine," he gave in, laughing, signaling to turn into the Chick-fil-A parking lot. "What do you want?" he asked as they approached the drive-thru.
"Eight count nugget, large fry, and a lemonade with light ice," she replied. "Oh, and mac and cheese!" she added.
He rolled his eyes, amused, as he ordered for both of them. He seriously didn't understand how she could eat like she did.
I saw this article the other day when I was looking at old Haleb stuff, and the writer of the article was saying she shipped "Cashley" (Caleb/Ashley.) She was saying that they have chemistry, and while she knows Haleb is OTP/endgame, she just wanted to see Caleb and Ashley fuck. Obviously, I am SO SO SO glad that never happened. I think Caleb sleeping with Hanna's mother is just about the only thing that could have ruined Haleb for me. She was saying (the article was from around the time of the hiatus between 7A and 7B) that she wanted to see Caleb and Hanna break up one last time, just long enough for him to hook up with Ashley, before Haleb got their happily every after. If the writers broke Haleb up just to have Caleb sleep with her MOTHER, I probably would have sued them for emotional distress. With that being said, you can't deny that Tyler and Laura totally do have chemistry, and that Ashley Marin is totally a MILF, so I wanted to play with that a little bit here in this alternate universe where Caleb and Hanna aren't officially together, he's even rougher around the edges than he was in early PLL, he wasn't a minor when he met Ashley, etc. But don't worry, nothing is going to happen between them! I would never do that! Not even in AU, LOL.
Also, I may be projecting my Taylor Swift preferences onto Hanna, so, in case you were curious, that's how I feel about Taylor: Speak Now/Red, best albums for sure! Although I am loving folklore and evermore! And of course we needed some "Beebs" references in here, because if you know me at all, you'll know Season 1 Haleb is some of my absolute favorite! They're just so innocent and so flirty and so in lust and so trying to deny their feelings, and it's just perfect! Also, fun fact; my only knowledge of Bon Iver came from Haleb - Season 3, Episode 4, right before they break up, Caleb surprises Hanna with concert tickets; maybe I'm the only Haleb fan psycho enough to remember that - but then Justin Vernon worked with Taylor on folklore and evermore, and exile is now one of my favorite Taylor songs ever, so exile always makes me think of Haleb now, because they were my first intro to Bon Iver (not because of the lyrics. The lyrics are sad, and not at all what I want for my Haleb babies, LOL.) So that's why I included that reference in here, too, for them to bond over.
Please review! I'll love you forever if you do! And tune in next chapter for Part 2 of Haleb's little getaway!
