Chapter Eleven: A Confession of Love

Serena knew it was time to tell them everything from the night she lost her family to who Sion was. When she came home, she never thought she would have to reveal her secret but circumstances had changed. She couldn't keep them in the dark anymore, no when their safety could be at risk just by her very presence here. Serena only hoped they would not hate her for keeping such a secret or turn her away because of it.

Sesshomaru kept her physically close to his body, where he knew she would be safe. His large frame encasing her petite one. He looked down at his little star trying to calm his nerves. He had come in that morning prepared to give her hell for not calling him then to almost losing her before he had the chance to tell her how he felt, now to find out she was, well he wasn't sure what she was.

Sesshomaru brushed the hair away from her face pressing his lips to the crescent moon on her forehead, he wouldn't wait. When they were alone, he would tell her exactly how he felt about her. Now that he knew what it feels like to almost lose her. Sesshomaru did not enjoy the feeling of helplessness when it came to protecting what was his.

Sesshomaru helped her back into her sweater carefully, he rubbed her arms trying to warm her up. Her skin was still chilly. Sesshomaru found himself unable to keep his eyes off the crescent moon adorning her head. It made her blue eyes sparkle even more brightly then they did previously, if that was even possible. It was magnificent, where was she from? what was that crystal? what was she Queen of? He found himself suddenly wanting to know everything. He kept his hands on her waist, wanting to keep her close.

Ayame returned from the executive kitchen with some drinks and snacks for Kagome, Miroku and Serena.

"Here, I grabbed something to at least get them through until we get home" handing Inuyasha some bars and juice before heading to Miroku. Inuyasha handed Serena an orange juice and granola bar.

"Eat this, you'll feel better" he whispered. She smiled softly up at him causing him to pull her in a bear hug.

"I was terrified you were going to die on us little sister" he choked out whispering in her ear "please do not do that again"

Serena patted his back trying to comfort him "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you all so much"

Sesshomaru pulled on his shoulder separating them, he wanted her to relax and recharge.

"Maybe we should go to the house, I have a feeling Mom should hear this" suggested Inuyasha raking his claws through his hair "plus they can rest there" motioning to the trio. Miroku was chugging an energy drink and Kagome was munching on a granola bar. They kept snacks on the floor for circumstances where they used their spiritual powers, though they had never used them enough to cause such a drain of strength. Despite her strength, Koga would have to help Sango bring Miroku down to the car, he was too tall and heavy for her to carry alone.

"I need the brooch from my safe" she said weakly pointing to the wall where Sesshomaru initially found her. She could feel her energy returning already, sipping on the orange juice Inuyasha had given her. She tried to stand but Sesshomaru stopped her with a gentle push on her shoulders and a stern look.

"No," he said firmly

"I'll bring it don't worry" Koga replied walking over to the safe on the wall. He opened it, pulling a small bundle from inside and sticking it in his pocket. He looked over as Sesshomaru pulled Serena close thanking the kami that she was okay. It got too terrifyingly close there for a minute. He knew Sesshomaru would have lost control had she not made it. He clenched his fists and stifled a growl, who was this monster and why was he playing with his family? Ayame appeared behind him, sensing her mates' distress. She put a hand on his shoulder comforting him, he pulled her in for a tight hug. Ayame rubbed his back, knowing her mate needed comfort.

"She is okay" she whispered in his ear "we will find out what that was all about then kill who is hurting her." He nodded against the side of her head. Ayame always knew what to say to keep him calm.

Sesshomaru picked up Serena bridal style holding her as close to his chest as he could. She wrapped her arm around his neck weaving her fingers into his hair and laid her head on his shoulder. Serena ran her nose along his jaw placing small kisses. 'I almost lost her' he thought leaning into her touch 'never again.' He didn't know exactly what she was going to tell them but he did know this; she emitted a power he had never felt before. How could one small woman hold so much power?

Toga called Izayoi and filled her in on their eventful morning, he could hear the devastation in her voice. He reassured her that everyone was okay, tired but okay. He glanced at Serena in Sesshomaru's arms. He was holding her as close as possible, his face covering hers whispering to her. He felt a jolt of guilt rush through him, if she was her daughter then he had failed her. Toga clenched one of his fists trying to keep his anger at bay. He informed Izayoi that they were coming home and told her how much he loved her just in case she didn't know. Izayoi replied with how much she loved him as well. She was going to call Kaede to come watch the children for them, they didn't want Rin to see Serena in that state as it would only upset her. He hung up the phone and turned to his son.

"I'll take Koga and Ayame. Inuyasha will bring home Kagome, Miroku and Sango. Izayoi is making you three food" looking at Serena, Kagome and Miroku "you need to bring your strength up"

Sesshomaru nodded in agreement "we'll meet you there Father"

Toga placed his hand on Serena's head, she lifted her face to look at him. Toga kissed Serena's cheek checking her over one last time "you nearly gave this old demon a heart attack" he scolded "do not worry me again"

"I'll try" she whispered yawning

Toga stared pointedly at Sesshomaru as if to say I'm trusting you to keep her safe. He left with the others casting one final glance over his shoulder at her. His sons could feel the worry coming off him.

"I think my father loves you more than me, his firstborn" Sesshomaru said looking down at Serena.

Inuyasha laughed picking up Kagome into his arms "and you haven't even mated her, imagine what he will be like then" before following the others out.

She leaned back against him and sighed "I doubt that"

He placed a kiss on her head and followed the others out of her office. If he could, he would burn the building to the ground so he would never have relive this morning again.

Sesshomaru carried her close and made his way down to his Audi. His arms holding her tightly.

"I can walk, I'm weak but not incapable" Serena said looking at him. He kept his gaze trained ahead.

He grunted "I held your hand as you were dying a few hours ago. So no you will not be walking"

"Sessh…"

"DO NOT argue with his one" he said coldly.

Was he angry with her? She hadn't meant to bring them into this. Her face crumpled at the thought of him being irate with her. If there had been another option she would taken it, maybe she should have just run after she saved Rin. Then she wouldn't have forced them into this situation. He put her in the passenger seat, buckling her in, not looking at her downturned face. 'He can't even look at me' her lip trembled 'he must hate me.' Sesshomaru got into the driver's seat and gripped the steering wheel so tightly his knuckles were white. He suddenly smelt tears. He was confused.

"What's wrong?" he said curtly trying to keep his anger in check. They couldn't even look at each other.

"I'm so sorry" she said her voice trembling. She brought her hand up to lips trying to keep the tears from falling. She failed.

"Why are you apologizing?" he asked, suddenly confused.

"I've put your family in terrible danger now. I'd understand if you want me to leave immediately, I won't return and you will all be safe" she replied as tears began to stream down her face. She knew the possible peril she was placing them in but selfishly she hoped he wouldn't send her away.

"What!" he looked over at her angrily "why would you say such things? Do you think so low of me?"

"No!" Serena argued her head bowed as tears dripped from her face onto her lap "But I know you are angry with me. You can't even look at me"

Sesshomaru growled low staring at his hands gripping the steering wheels.

"Angry? No I am past anger. I am furious and enraged but not at you. At the man who thought he could come into my work and hurt my mate, try to kill my mate and take you from me! He touched you and caused you pain, for that, I will find him and dismember him myself"

Angry didn't even begin to cover how he felt. Someone had almost killed her before they had had their chance. To take Rin's mother. The woman he loved, wanted to marry and pup his children. He was seething. His beast was pushing against his resolve to resort to his baser instinct of hunting and killing.

"Your mate…" she said softly, cutting through his angered haze "you don't hate me?"

Sesshomaru turned to face her, taking in her lip quivering and her eyes filled with tears that dripped down her cheeks. He placed a hand on either side of her face and pulled her in kissing her lips, pouring all his feeling into it. Pulling back he leaned his forehead against hers and confessed "Yes mate, and hate? I love you. I've always loved you even when I didn't know what I wanted. Even before I knew you. It was you. You are the love that came without warning; you had my heart before I realized."

Sesshomaru was not the type for emotions or discussing feelings but when it came to this woman and confessing his feelings, the words came tumbling out before he could even think of them. He needed her to know how much he loved and cherished her in such a short time. Every time he looked at her, it felt like his heart would swell with overwhelming love and adoration.

A sob escaped her body, he used one hand to unbuckle her seatbelt and the other to pull her into his lap holding her close. His hand wrapped around her hips, the other cradling her head. 'Say you love me too' he thought 'tell me this isn't one-sided.' His gold eyes searching her blue eyes for any sign. He laid his heart bare to her and hope she would do the same. Serena gazed lovingly at him, her face inches from his. 'He loves me' she thought 'I can feel how much he loves me.'

"I love you too Sesshomaru" she started her fingers tracing down the sides of his face memorizing him "I waited for you my entire life and you were worth every minute. I wish I could explain your eyes, and how the sound of your voice gives me butterflies. How your smile makes my heart skip a beat and how every time I'm with you, I feel so complete."

He kissed her lips then her cheeks and forehead then back to her lips, kissing her passionately until they couldn't breathe. She tangled her hands into his hair, holding him as close as she could. He pulled away slowly running his nose down her cheek along her jaw and up her other cheek. She said all the words he needed to hear.

"I don't want anyone else to have your heart, kiss your lips or be in your arms because that's only my place now"

She smiled pecking his lips "that place was only ever going to belong to you"

"Good, cause now that I have you I will never let you go"

She shook her head and whispered "don't ever let me go" hugging him, burying her face into his shoulder

He held her close for several minutes just memorizing her scent and the way her heartbeat sounded. Watching her like that terrified him, something he didn't know could happen. Nothing scared Sesshomaru, he was fearless but watching her lay there unable to do anything. He felt true fear for the first time. He didn't want to release her but knew she had a lot to tell them. He slid her back into the passenger seat, taking extra care to buckle her in. Sesshomaru ran a finger down the side of her face, pressing his lips to hers one more time.

"Come, we should go home. You sleep while I drive"

She nodded "you must all have a lot of questions"
