Chapter Twenty-Five: Returning Home

Five days later, Sesshomaru carried Serena into the house. Her leg had healed nicely, looking like a few months had passed not mere days. Her doctor was shocked at her progress, remarking daily that her lunar blood was incredible. Dr. Jinenji wanted her to come back for a checkup once a week for a few weeks just to ensure that everything was healing nicely and that nothing else was affected. However, they also assumed he wanted to document more about her lunar lineage for future medical practices. She asked about physical activity and nearly fell out of her chair when he said they could "engage in sexual activity." A blush spread across her whole body, Sesshomaru chuckled. He knew she meant training but it was good to know his plans to mate did not have to change.

"You are home!" gushed Kagome running over. She took their bags, squeezing her hand "you must be happy to be home. We missed you"

Serena sighed and looked around, she was happy to home. She had missed the feelings and smells of the house. The sounds of her family bustling around in the morning. Spending time with her sisters gossiping and shopping. The smell of Izayoi's amazing coffee in the morning, which she may have missed the most.

"You have no idea" she replied looking up at Sesshomaru's face "I need a bath…badly"

Inuyasha scrunched his nose "yea you do" teasing her. Koga smacked him upside the head, dodging a punch back.

"Thank you, Koga," Serena said grinning at a grumbling Inuyasha. Koga nodded back at her "Ayame has the kids in the pool with mom so you can go bathe and get settled in"

Koga hadn't left her side much since the attack, thoroughly vetting anyone who stepped into her room. One of the new nurses got a real scare when they tried to enter her room during morning rounds. Koga had them against up against the wall by the neck before Serena hobbled out and stopped him. Then she got chewed out by Koga for being on her feet, even going so far as to tattle to Sesshomaru and Toga when they came in at lunch. There was something extremely intimidating about being stared down by two unhappy daiyokai.

Ayame reassured her that Koga would let up soon, he just needed to see her back to normal before he could fully forgive himself. Demons felt emotions on a heightened level and that included guilt.

Sesshomaru carried her upstairs, her face nuzzling into his neck. He bit back a groan, tightening his grip on her. He settled her on the edge of their bed and removed her clothing, he felt his pants tighten at the sight of her naked form. They hadn't been intimate since the attack, he didn't want to injury her further. Though he was finding it increasingly difficult to keep his hands to himself. Quickly he wrapped her in a fluffy bath towel, throwing her clothes in the hamper. He wasn't letting her lift a finger and was happy she was allowing him without an argument…for now.

"I'm going to run you a hot bath. Stay. Here." He ordered kissing her forehead. Sesshomaru filled the tub with hot bubbly water and lit a few candles around their bathroom. She needed to relax, the past few weeks had been a roller-coaster of stress.

"You spoil me"

He turned to see Serena slowly walking in not putting too much weight on her leg. It was still a little sore but the hot water should help. With an inward groan, he thought 'she can't ever just do what I say can she?' Sesshomaru glowered at her, his large frame overshadowing her.

"I told you to stay" crossing his arms and cocking an eyebrow. She let out an exasperated sigh "I'm fine, the doctor even said I was cleared for all physical activity so stop giving me that look"

She tried to step around him and he placed his arm out in front of her blocking her way.

"You will take it easy and you will listen to me," he said firmly

"Yes sir" she smirked releasing her towel letting it drop and pool at her feet "then you can help me get in the bath." Sesshomaru took in her naked form and licked his lips. "You will be the death of me" he groaned. He swept her into his arms planting a firm kiss on her lips, before letting her body sink into the hot water. His body crouched next to her watching her intently.

"What are we going to do about the benefit?" she asked

"We will figure something out so banish any thoughts and just relax" he answered placing light kissing along the side of her neck and shoulder.

"Hmm?"

"I want to take you somewhere" she answered, her muscles tensing. She hoped he didn't say no to her request, she was tired of waiting. Sesshomaru tilted his head looking down into her eyes.

"Where?" he questioned

"Somewhere special to me" she blushed and bit her lip. His little star was up to something, he could read her like a book.

"Why?" he pushed further

Serena turned her body to lay against his chest, his arms going around her waist holding her close. Serena took a deep breath and decided to just dive in headfirst.

"Beer?" asked Koga

He nodded and caught the bottle that was tossed, using a claw he popped the cap off. Taking a long swig, he looked to Rin splashing in the pool than to Serena chatting with Kagome. He wanted their life to be this way, simple moments. Moments made up of love, laughter and happiness. Moments that they would look back on decades from now and speak about fondly.

"How do you feel?" Toga asked concern written all over his face. He came to see her in the hospital every morning before work, came to eat lunch with her and then again after work. Sesshomaru came in many times to find them playing cards or Serena asleep on him. The nurses would gush over how sweet it was to see such a doting and loving father-daughter pair. Especially when Kagome, Sango and Ayame were also present, those girls could play him like a fiddle and he let them. Serena smiled over at Toga.

"I'm okay, sore but good. Doctor Jinenji cleared me for all activity"

Sesshomaru chuckled taking another swig of his beer. She turned smiling and smacked him on the arm. Sango and Kagome laughed at the pair. The couple tended to nudge each other in annoyance in a play to tease one another. They would usually snip at each other until one broke and admitted defeat. No one else understood what games they played or even tried to.

"It's nice to see you smile," Sango said

Serena turned to her sisters "I have something to smile about" thinking about Sesshomaru's question. She slipped her hand into his squeezing it, he lifted it in response to his lips.

"You know before Serena" Inuyasha started "I never saw ice prick over here smile or be so affectionate"

"I will still kill you half-breed" Sesshomaru grumbled in response shooting his brother a glare.

Toga chuckled at his sons. "You do realize your pups will be hanyou right?" he posed the question smirking at Sesshomaru. He would enjoy seeing a newborn in this house again.

"Well, perhaps not" Miroku interjected as he took a sip of his beer, everyone looking curiously at him. "We have no idea how their DNA will react, your pup could be 100% yokai like Sesshomaru, or 100% lunar like Serena or a mix of both"

He shrugged "We won't know until they have a pup."

Kagome giggled "Oh their pup is going to be so adorable. Her blonde hair with his eyes?"

"Imagine pregnant Serena?" Sango joined in "she has a fantastic body now but pregnant? Oh my goodness!" The two women continued laughing and discussing how cute she'll look when she becomes pregnant. Inuyasha laughed at Serena blushing a deep scarlet.

"Well you'll just have to get pregnant and have a baby" he stated nonchalantly

"Mama's having a baby?" Rin's little voice piped up. Everyone's head snapped towards her, sitting in her aunt's arms looking at them all innocent and curious. Ayame had her wrapped in a beach towel while Izayoi was still in the pool with Shippo. Rin's little hands clapped in excitement, staring wide-eyed at her parents. Sesshomaru spit out his beer, spraying it all over Koga.

"Fuck" Koga grumbled "Thanks a lot"

"You're pregnant?" Ayame questioned setting Rin down, she scampered over to Serena raising her arms. Sesshomaru let out a warning as she lifted Rin onto her lap, he didn't want her straining herself too much. Serena dried her off with her fluffy pink towel.

Serena's eyes widened "No! I am not pregnant"

"Yet" Kagome added

Serena rolled her eyes.

"No baby?" Rin pouted. She wanted a baby brother or sister, someone else to play with and love. She knew that once mama and daddy had a baby, she would have to share their attention. Share everyone's attention. Before Serena became her mama, she might not have been happy with that notion. But the first time she met Serena, she felt it. Serena was her mama, she knew before her daddy did, her daddy and she were finally going to have a family. So she was excited to add to that and have someone to teach all the things she knew. Serena rubbed her back soothing her.

"No sweet girl" she smiled "Mama and Daddy aren't even married"

"Yet" Sango pointed out, earning her and Kagome a glare "Sesshomaru, when are you going to marry this girl?"

All eyes turned to him while Serena looked anywhere but his eyes. She didn't want to rush him into something he wasn't ready for. They hadn't been together all that long. The paparazzi had already had a field day with their relationship. Speculation layered over speculation. There were rumours that Serena was Toga's love child with another woman. Another that they weren't actually in love but rather it was an arranged marriage created by their parents. Her favourite was that she and Sesshomaru had been hiding their relationship for years because she was a secret heiress from another country.

"If I reveal my plans than it ruins it" he stated finishing off the last of his beer.

"Okay," Serena butted in "let's talk about anything else please for the love of the stars." She turned to Toga "what are we doing about the benefit? The venue is destroyed, I am just happy no one else was hurt in the explosion"

Toga nodded "well when news spread of the accident as we had it framed, donations poured in" he patted Serena's hand "the parents adore you so they took it upon themselves to get all the donations we could need"

Serena's eyes filled with tears, she hadn't realized the impact she had on the families or that she meant so much to them. Toga lifted his glass and smirked "Mr. Kaden was very quick to donate a large sum of money himself"

Serena gagged a little and Sesshomaru growled at the name, he hated that man. Toga laughed at his face knowing how much he despised the advancements of Mr. Kaden. If Toga thought for a moment that he could be any real threat to his daughter or family, he wouldn't be allowed on the premises again but luckily he was as harmless as a fly. His yokai was nothing in comparison is the great Inu no Taisho and his daiyokai son. It was just amusing for Toga to watch Sesshomaru get all riled up whenever he hit on Serena.

"So instead we will hold a gala at West View after the start of school. Then donors can see what their money had done" he added

"That's a smart idea pops," Inuyasha said grabbing another beer for himself and Sesshomaru.

Toga looked proud "well I didn't build a multibillion-dollar company from bad ideas"

Sesshomaru scoffed "humble as ever father"

"Yea, that's where Inuyasha must get it from" teased Koga

"Hey!"

"Mama?" Rin already bored with the conversation piped up tugging at her shirt "can you come swimming with me?"

"Yes, sweet girl of course" standing with Rin on her hip. Sesshomaru growled and reached out for her arm "Serena…"

She turned to him, a scowl on her face "Do not tell me I cannot go swimming with our daughter" and stalked off towards the pool. Sesshomaru sighed rubbing his forehead 'stubborn woman' he thought. He watched her intently as Rin jumped into the pool and she undressed. She had a thin scar along the side of her thigh that was fading day by day. He looked forward to it no longer marking her skin. Serena slipped out of her shorts and tank top, wearing a navy blue bikini underneath.

"Be careful love" he cautioned keeping a very close eye on her. He kept his gaze trained to her, only looking away when someone spoke to him.

"I'm joining them, that water looks nice," Sango said jumping up with Kagome shedding her clothes. They accompanied Ayame back to the pool and slipped into the water joining in a game of Marco polo. Toga sat back in his chair smiling, this was how life was to be. Together as a family, enjoying the sunshine. He looked around at his children, they were all happily mated or close to be. Now he just needed to work on his number of grandpups.

"Father…"

He looked towards his eldest "yes son?"

Sesshomaru leaned close, lowering his voice to a whisper "is it ready?"

Toga knew he meant the engagement ring he had designed for Serena. It was just about ready but needed a little bit longer to finish to his exact specifications. Toga knew he was eager to propose and begin their life together. He shook his head.

"Almost, should be in another week"

Sesshomaru grunted looking back towards his intended, he would need to stall a little while longer. He wanted everything to come together to make one exceptional moment in time for them both. Toga was pleased to see his eldest opening up and being happy. He wondered for many years if Sesshomaru would remain ice cold and stoic as he had been. Then he came announcing he was adopting a baby girl and her name was Rin. They had been flabbergasted over the transformation, he became affectionate, comforting and fatherly. He was still very much closed off and cold to everyone else but Toga was pleased to see some change. Then Serena entered their lives. She changed him at his core.

"Have you come up with a plan yet?" he asked

Sesshomaru shook his head, he had many ideas rattling around in his mind. There were so many ways he wanted to ask her to marry him that he couldn't pick just one.

"No, not yet but I will figure it out. I do want it to be private, however" he said

"Smart" Inuyasha added "she would hate all that attention plus we all know what happens after mating" he winked at his brother. Sesshomaru rolled his eyes at his brother but did have to admit he was looking forward to that. Once mated, the couple usually spent a few days locked away making love over and over. There was something about the connection made that lit a fire within their bodies that required quenching.

Koga and Miroku looked at one another initially confused about their discussion then realization spread across their features.

"No way"

"Koga" Sesshomaru began "I trust you not to speak a word. You as well Miroku"

Both men nodded, they would not ruin this moment for them "of course mum's the word"

Koga looked thoughtful for a moment "you should include her home in some way"

Koga and Serena had spent many hours together while she was in the hospital. He refused to leave until she was home. During that time, they grew closer daily telling each other secrets that not many other than their mates knew. Serena told him all about her home and growing up on the moon.

"Having a piece of her home will mean the world to her" he added.

Sesshomaru nodded in agreement "I plan to"

"When did you know?" Miroku asked. Sesshomaru turned to look at him "know what?" he asked.

"That you wanted to…" he paused gesturing to his wedding ring with his finger. The men looked to him awaiting his answer, they were also curious. Serena was special and they could see how they perfectly match they were, two pieces of a puzzle coming together.

Sesshomaru turned to look at his beloved little star. He searched back in his memories of her, all their moments trying to pinpoint the exact moment he knew he wanted to marry her. Serena tossed Rin up in the air; not very high but enough to make her laugh, and caught her smothering her small face in kisses.

"The moment my eyes laid on her," he said, "my soul saw here and it was like it said I have finally found you."
