Chapter Twenty-Eight: Kagura

"Kagome this was a great idea" Serena sighed leaning back and taking a sip of her prosecco. She tilted her head back soaking up the sunshine. Kagome giggled in response.

"I know I'm a genius"

She had strode into Serena's office amidst her having a mini panic attack over a frivolous decision. She took one look at her and declared they were taking the afternoon off for relaxation and shopping. The preparations for the upcoming school year were further along than anyone would have thought. Classes were prepared, teachers hired and lesson plans drawn up. Though Serena kept double and triple-checking things. She wanted everything to be perfect. Adding more to her growing list of to-dos. It took Kagome physically dragging her from the office before Serena relented. They took a heavy security guard presence with them, it was probably the only way Sesshomaru and Inuyasha would have let them leave. The pair decided to stay in the city choosing Andrew's casual restaurant; Emerald, for lunch. The ladies had done quite a bit of damage to the shops when they decided to break for a late lunch.

"So I need your help Kagome," Serena said moving the food around her plate. Kagome look at her curiously

"Anything, what can I do?"

Serena took a deep breath and gathered her nerve "I want to take Sesshomaru somewhere special. Remember that cottage I told you about?"

Kagome nodded

"Okay well," she continued "I want to take him there and…" she blushed lowering her voice "finally take that step" looking pointedly at her.

Kagome choked on her drink. Coughing she shook her head "Okay not where I thought this conversation was going"

Serena blushed a deep scarlet red.

"I kind of thought you had already slept together" Kagome shrugged.

Serena's eyes widen as she cupped her blushing cheeks

"Why would you think that?"

Kagome gave her a knowing look "well for once he can't keep his hands off you and two I'm mated to a demon remember? Inuyasha has smelt him all over you" gesturing to Serena's body with her fork.

Serena slumped in her seat a little embarrassed. Inuyasha was her big brother and the knowledge that he could smell their intimacy made her want to die. Kagome couldn't help but laugh at her. After she had spent the first night with Sesshomaru, Inuyasha had bolted into their room rambling about smelling Sesshomaru all over Serena. Kagome had stayed silent letting him rant about his older brother "taking advantage" of his little sister. Then reminded him that she was a grown woman who could make her own choices and that Sesshomaru was her true mate before bringing up how quickly they started sleeping together. Inuyasha had no arguments back but sulked the rest of the morning.

"Oh don't worry about him. So what do you need help with?" she asked pressing Serena to continue.

"Lingerie," Serena said plainly "I want it to be special. I know he has been with others but I haven't"

A scoff interrupted their, until that point, a wonderful afternoon. Kagura was standing a few feet from their table, her hip jutted to the side and her arms crossed with a sneer of disgust on her face. Kagome huffed rolling her eyes as she dropped her fork. Her appetite officially gone.

"Kagura" she grumbled scrunching her nose up from the overwhelming scent of her perfume "what do you want?"

Kagura turned her steely gaze to Kagome and scowled. The pair had never gotten along, Kagome commented several times how pathetic it was that Kagura kept throwing herself at someone who had no interest in her besides sex. Kagura however was convinced that Sesshomaru was secretly in love with her and that he would pick her to be his mate. Of course in Kagura's mind, the first thing to go would be Rin, to a boarding school followed by Sesshomaru buying them an extravagant house that his family would never come to. Kagura threw a magazine at Serena, it landing on her plate.

"Care to explain this homewrecker?" Kagura growled

Plastered on the front cover was yet another picture of her and Sesshomaru from their date. Magazines were still discussing their relationship, remarking how in love they appeared and making bets on when wedding bells would be tolling. In the photo they were dancing, their bodies pressed against one another, Sesshomaru's face contained nothing but pure love and devotion as he gazed down at her. The caption read "Sorry ladies, most eligible bachelor Sesshomaru Taisho officially off the market. Sources claim he has been scooped up by the enchanting Serena Luna."

Kagura had screeched so loudly when she saw the photo that the windows in the shops shook. That little bitch had stolen her man, she was supposed to be the one everyone talked about. Everyone was talking about how in love they looked and how perfectly matched they were. If they weren't discussing that, they were boasting how amazing Serena was, how sweet she was and how everyone loved her. It disgusted Kagura. That stupid blonde was not that special, she was a boring virgin.

"Well?" Kagura demanded tapping her foot impatiently. Serena looked confused as Kagome read the article.

"I'm sorry Kagura but I am not a homewrecker. He was never yours, I wear his mark and I'll be his mate" she started feeling a little bad for the woman "I am sorry if that hurts you, I know you had feelings for him"

A slap suddenly rang throughout the restaurant. Serena's head snapped to the side as she registered the pain in her cheek. Their security made a move towards them but stopped when Serena raised her hand, she didn't need them to deal with Kagura. The head of their detail made a note to add this Kagura woman to the list of parties not allowed near the Taisho family. He did not trust her.

'She slapped me' Serena thought bringing her hand up to her face 'that bitch hit me!'

Kagome shot up to her feet "What the fuck Kagura?! Get it through your skull, Sesshomaru doesn't want you"

Kagura sneered back looking smug "please, Sesshomaru loves me and the way he still fucks me prove it"

Serena stood slowly seething with rage.

"Excuse me?" she said. He had told her it was one time, months ago. Kagura put her hands on her hips looking triumphant.

"That's right, we are still having sex. He can't get enough of my body, did you think you were enough for him? A virgin?" Kagura's head fell back in a laugh "you are not worth his time nor his name. You will never be enough for him"

Kagome could see the power crackling in Serena's aura and felt worried for the bitch. Serena could do some real damage if she wanted to. For her safety, Kagura needed to leave.

"Give it up, no one believes you," she said signalling to their security that now she needed to be removed "now leave"

"You think you are so much better than me, Kagome. But you aren't" Kagura screeched "He will be mine, I don't care what I have to do"

Serena scowled trying to keep her insecurities that were creeping in from showing on her face. The questions of whether she was good enough for Sesshomaru or would eventually realize that she was too much of a risk always plagued her.

"You will have him over my dead body" Serena argued "he graces our bed and I own his heart"

In a fit of anger, Kagura grabbed one of the girl's drinks and poured it over Serena's head. She let the glass slip out of her hand and shatter on the floor.

"Oops" she feigned innocence before snarling a threat "stay away from him"

Security grabbed Kagura by her arms "that's it, you are out of here"

Kagura kicked and screamed as they dragged her out of the restaurant and down the street.

"You may wear his mark for now but you'll never be enough!" she screamed

Kagome immediately rushed to Serena's side with napkins trying to sop up the liquid.

"Are you alright?" she asked a concerned look gracing her features "ignore her, Kagura is just a lying skank. She will say whatever she can to get to Sesshomaru"

Serena swallowed her tears nodding. Grabbing her purse she made a move towards the door.

"I'm going to go home. I need to shower" she mumbled. Her expression showing her insecurity over Kagura's words. Kagome reached out to hug her but Serena stopped her with an upheld hand. It was clear she wanted to be left alone. Kagome thought for a moment about following her anyways but second-guessed herself. Sometimes people need to figure things out for themselves, plus Serena would have her security to take her home and they would watch the house. So she stayed behind.

"I'll see you later Kagome, I just need to be alone," Serena said quickly before rushing out of the restaurant. She climbed into an Uber with a couple of her security detail and left. Kagome watched her go before pulling out her phone and dialling Sesshomaru's number. He picked up on the first ring.

"You have a problem" she cut to the chase "and her name is Kagura."
