Chapter Thirty-Three: Morning After

Serena grabbed his keys tossing them at him "you drive and I'll talk. Your mate is starving"

As they drove, Sesshomaru kept her hand pressed against his lips making their way back towards the town. He had sent off a quick text to Kagome letting her know they had left and the directions to the cottage from where she and Inuyasha were.

"So speak" he mumbled against her hand.

"Well we marry as humans do but under a full moon then during the ceremony, we complete a soul bond" she paused recalling the times she had witnessed them, it was beautiful. Sesshomaru could tell by her face that this was something she desperately wanted.

"What does that entail?" he inquired

Serena shrugged "not much of the couple really, they stand and hold hands. The Queen uses the crystal to bind their souls together as one, it can only be done with true soul matches. They are beautiful to witness, you can see the colours of their souls mix and meld into one"

Sesshomaru was anxious for that evening. He wanted to ask her right now, but just as their mating night had been special he wanted the night he proposed to be special as well.

'I wish I could have asked her father for her hand' he thought casting a quick look over to his beautiful mate.

"Do you think your father would have approved of our mating?" he asked staring at her face. Serena's face heated up

Sesshomaru plucked the books from her hands "no you will not" pecking her on the lips.

'That man makes it hard to say no' she thought following him.

The poor boy at the counter's face was beet red as they checked out. He had heard everything they did, bringing a smirk of satisfaction to Sesshomaru's face. It wasn't surprising as Serena had a difficult time being quiet.

Sesshomaru wanted to groan out loud in frustration. Serena made spoiling her extremely difficult, anytime she picked something up she would find a reason why she didn't like it. Though she had no issue spoiling the kids, picking up numerous new dresses for Rin and shirts for Shippo.

"Love, you are supposed to be looking for yourself. Not just the children" he scolded her looking at her face as she brushed him off.

She scowled in response "I'm her mama, I can spoil her all I want"

Sesshomaru resigned to the fact that she would always be difficult. He would have to force gifts on her he believed. As she browsed, he caught her casting longing glances at a table with folded baby clothes on it. Suddenly it made sense, Serena had always wanted lots of pups. That was no secret. She had missed out on Rin being an infant and now she was a child and growing up so fast. So she was trying to make up for all the time she had missed out on.

They had agreed to wait until it was safe to have pups but that didn't mean she didn't feel the want. Before Sesshomaru, Serena didn't think she'd ever find love and a family so when she thought of children it didn't hurt because there was no possibility. Now, however, she had Sesshomaru, Rin and a whole family. They could have pups, she could experience pregnancy and having a newborn. If only Sion was not trying to ruin everything.

"Little star" Sesshomaru began putting down the bags and wrapping her in his embrace.

"We will have pups you know this" nudging her mark with his nose.

Serena sighed, her shoulders sagging. It hurt his soul to see his mate in distress of any kind. Yes, she knew that but it didn't mean it hurt any less.

"I know, I just wish we could do it now. He is taking another thing from me" she whispered, her bottom lip trembling as she fingered a small white cashmere onesie decorated with tiny stars and a moon.

"I want to carry and give birth to your pup, nurse them and watch them grow" she whispered "I missed out on all of that with Rin, I never got to hold our daughter as a baby"

Serena smiled softly resting her hand on top of his

"You think so?" she asked looking hopeful

"I know so" he answered

Sesshomaru suddenly straightened up reaching past her and plucked the onesie from the table. This would be a reminder to her that they would be parents to another pup, one created from them both. One she could watch grow and love as much as she loved Rin. Their family would get bigger as they created a new life.

"This is how confident I am that we will create a life together. I am buying this for our child, because we will have children"

Never did she worry about Sesshomaru flirting with another woman, the way he looked at her told her she was the only one in his heart and on his mind. Many women flirted with him but every time he ignored them rather than focusing solely on her.

Sesshomaru looked back at Serena, he looked forward to the day his pup would be dressed in this and cradled in her arms. Picturing her rocking their newborn made him smile and fill his heart with joy.

"Not it is not" he replied flatly.

The girl giggled again "Oh so you are a dad…lucky kid to have such a dedicated Daddy like you"

Serena ignored the urge to vomit on the floor, could this girl be any more oblivious? Sesshomaru showed no interest in her advancements so she wasn't concerned. However, when the girl touched his arm and asked if his kid had a mommy, she couldn't ignore it any longer. Serena slid up next to him prompting Sesshomaru to gaze lovingly down at her.

"Yes, they do" she stated firmly putting her hand on his arm and promptly removing the girl's hand. The girl stared back at her scowling.

"Are you his sister?" she questioned staring Serena down. Serena gapped, this girl had some nerve. Questioning her. Looking at what belonged to her the way she was. Sesshomaru smirked as he felt her anger heightened. He enjoyed watching his mate claim him like she did.

"I am his wife thank you" Serena growled out, her grip tightening on his arm. She was ready to launch over that counter and burn the bitch.

Sesshomaru shook his head at the girl trying hard not to laugh, his mate may be tiny but he did not doubt she wouldn't hesitate to kick that girl's ass.

"That is my wife, now may I purchase this?" he stated

The girl blanched and blushed "yes of course my apologies"

After Sesshomaru paid, Serena plucked the bag from the girl's hand narrowing her eyes at her. The look in her eyes clearly saying not to mess with her or what belonged to her including her mate. Sesshomaru followed her out picking up the rest of their bags as he went. He watched her, imaging her pregnant and glowing, her stomach swollen with their pup. Another thing he couldn't wait to experience with his little star.

"I thought you were going to hit her" he chuckled

Serena huffed "if she didn't stop shoving her chest in your face, I was just going to singe her a little"

Sesshomaru pecked her lips quickly "I only have eyes for you"

"I know," she said running her nose along his jaw "however some humans don't know about mating marks and what they mean" she paused to look at him in the eyes "you want to get married someday right?"

Sesshomaru fought the urge to laugh

'If only she knew what was happening tonight' he thought 'if she thinks I'm waiting to make her mine in every way then she is crazy'

Kissing her firmly he reassured her "Of course I do my darling little star, I plan on having you as mine in every way. Just have patience with me?"

Serena breathed a sigh of relief. As long as he wanted to then she would wait for whenever he felt ready. She always wanted to get married surrounded by all she loved. It was nice to know that Sesshomaru wanted those things as well.

'One step at a time' she thought, reminding herself to be patient 'first we deal with Sion then I get to live my life'

Serena stood on her tiptoes wrapping her arms around his neck.

"Yes of course I can, I've waited for you my entire long life. I can wait a little longer"

She leaned her forehead against his staring deep into his gold eyes. Serena found she could get lost in his golden depths. His eyes were like being wrapped in sunlight, they left her feeling warm and protected. He was always talking about beautiful her eyes were and how they reminded him of a clear cloudless day but his were gorgeous. It was like staring into a star that was shining brightly in the night sky. Sesshomaru returned her embrace, picking up her small body and spun her around gently.

"My mate is extraordinary" he exclaimed

Serena giggled holding onto him tightly "yea she is pretty great"

He placed her back down, shifting the bags to one hand so he could intertwine his fingers with hers pulling her along as they walked. Determined to spoil her. The only thing she allowed him to buy for her was a delicate gold necklace with a small diamond encrusted star on it. It looked beautiful laying against her throat.

"Oh wait," she said suddenly stopping yanking Sesshomaru back "that's gorgeous"

A dress on a mannequin in the window of a shop had caught her attention immediately. It shimmered in the afternoon glow like it was stitched with stars. It looked delicate like it was made for one person in mind. Sesshomaru glanced at the window then to his mate, she never showed an interest in something especially if Sesshomaru was on a mission to spoil her.

'She will look breathtaking in that for tonight' he thought 'now everything is perfect'

Everything was falling into place.

"Come" he said pulling her towards the store "I'm buying you that dress"

Serena's eyes widened and dragged her feet shaking her head. No that was not her goal of pointing it out. She just thought it was pretty, where would she wear that dress anyway?

"No! Where am I going to wear that?" she asked pulling back on his hand. She failed as Sesshomaru was exceptionally strong.

"Tonight" he chuckled at her futile attempt to keep him in place as he pulled her along "we are having a date night. We are parents, we do not get to have complete alone time so we are making the most of it"

Serena groaned relenting and letting him pull her inside to try the dress on. It had been a perfect fit, even the girl working there said it was like it was made for her. They walked out with the dress much to her reluctance and arguing. Finally, after trying to convince him for nearly ten minutes that she didn't need something so fancy, Sesshomaru grabbed her by the face and told her he was buying it. That she deserved to be covered in stars but this was as close as he would get before biting gently at her mark. His way of ending the conversation.

They left and drove back to the cottage, Serena completely unaware of what was to come. Sesshomaru however was ready. This was the moment he had been waiting for, to see her face when he proposed was something he wanted etched in his memory. Being fully committed to another was not something that ever occurred to him, he was content spending his life alone and raising Rin alone. But then Serena came into his world. Now all he could think about was being fully committed to her, having his little star as his and only his. Tonight that would change then he would rid her world of Sion and filled it with love and never-ending happiness.
