Chapter 12: Golden Egg
Syaoran unlock the secret door with the sharp pin. He slowly walked inside the dark gloomy room where he found Eriol's secret collections. Syaoran observed at each of Eriol collections, which were small statues, painting, and accessory. Syaoran was quite surprised that all Eriol collections was associated with wolves. Syaoran found a nice wolf painting where he once mistaken as a chocolate. Then at the corner of the room, he noticed multiple computer monitors, viewing each area of his apartment.
"Wow…" said Syaoran, amazed.
Meanwhile, Eriol was sleeping on his single bed. He started to groan as he was having a nightmare. In Eriol's nightmare, he was walking into a deep forest. At the middle of the dark forest, he heard a wolf howl. Eriol walked toward the sound of the howl and found a mature chocolate color hair wolf crying. The wolf stopped howling and glanced at Eriol. As Eriol walk closer toward the wolf, the wolf quickly jumped across a lake and ran off.
"Wait!" yelled out Eriol as he ran toward the lake. Eriol eyes widen as he glanced down at his own reflection on the water. Eriol was holding a long staff and his face were covered with blood.
Eriol woke up from his horrid dream. His entire face was covered with sweats. Eriol tried to control his shortness his breath. Eriol managed to get up from the bed and went to the bathroom. Eriol slowly glanced up at the mirror and looked at his own reflection for a long time.
"Damn it… who are you?" questioned Eriol. Eriol washed his face with cool water and wipe his face with a towel. Once Eriol stepped out of the bathroom, he noticed the door to his secret room was slightly opened. Eriol walk into his dark room and found Syaoran standing in the middle of his room.
"Damn it Syaoran, when did you..." Eriol words trailed off when he saw tears flowing down on Syaoran's cheeks. Eriol stayed silent as he remembered back in his dreams where a lone wolf was crying. Eriol pictured the mature lone wolf on his mind as he watched Syaoran tears flowing out helplessly.
"Eriol, you got to watch this movie. It's so sad!" said Syaoran as he sniffed.
"Movie?" retorted Eriol, confused. Then he noticed that Syaoran was watching a movie off his big computer monitor. Eriol quickly walked toward his computer and shut off the movie.
"What are you doing in here? And how did you even get in?!" asked Eriol, angrily. Syaraon wiped away his tears and blow his nose with his sleeves.
"It wasn't hard. I just used the same method you used to open locks and it opened," answered Syaoran as if it was no big deal.
"You got to be kidding me," said Eriol in disbelief. Eriol made the lock himself so that no one can easily break in. But how was Syaoran manage to open it? Even though he said he copied his way of opening locks, but that was even more impossible! Eriol quickly pushed Syaoran out of his secret room.
"Awww! I want to finish the movie!" cried out Syaoran.
"This room is off limit! Can't you tell since it was locked?" said Eriol.
"Well, you always seem to break in so I thought it was no big deal," said Syaoran, casually. Eriol sighed out helplessly as he knew it was hopeless to argue with Syaoran.
"Why are you even here?" wondered Eriol.
"I almost forgot! Eriol, I need your help!" pleaded Syaoran.
"What is it now?" said Eriol, uninterested of Syaoran's request.
"Please let me borrow your Chocolate Thief custom!" pleaded Syaoran as he gave his sad puppy eyes.
"No."
"Why not?"
"Because I said so."
"Please! I will return it to you by tomorrow morning!"
"No."
"I'll do anything! Anything!"
Eriol suddenly grinned. "Anything?"
Syaoran nodded. "Yes!"
"Still, my answer is no," said Eriol as he walked away.
"Why not?!" cried out Syaoran as he followed Eriol behind.
Meanwhile at Yukito's mansion, Tomoyo and Touya stared at the small golden egg in front of them. Tomoyo never seen such a shiny bright golden egg covered with colorful gems. It was probably 100% made out of real gold.
"I planned an Easter event tonight and announced it to the public. I'm going to use this event as bait to capture the Chocolate Thief," said Yukito.
"Isn't this too much? It looks like it's worth millions," said Touya.
"It's nothing compare to what he stole from me," said Yukito.
"But how are you sure that he will come and steal this?" wondered Touya.
"Who wouldn't? It's so beautiful," blurted out Tomoyo, who couldn't stop starring at the golden egg.
"My security will be tight as usual, but I'm sure the Chocolate Thief will surpass them all. I want you two to be ready when he does," said Yukito. Both Touya and Tomoyo nodded as the agreed with the plan.
Tomoyo and Touya double check the security cameras at Yukito's mansion. Everything was ready and was in perfect set up to capture the Chocolate Thief. The golden egg was display at the main gathering room, where the event will be taken place. There were enough securities to guard it and since it was out in the public, it won't be easy to steal it.
"Do you think Chocolate Thief will really come?" questioned Tomoyo, feeling doubtful that the thief will come out in the open.
"Well, that's what Yukito believes," said Touya.
"All we need to do is guard the exits," said Touya. There were two exists that Touya had in mind. One was the back door and another one was the front entrance.
"How are you so sure that the thief will exit between those two exist?" wondered Tomoyo, clueless.
"Cause all other places have hidden traps," explained Touya.
"Oh, I see, so we are just luring the thief to the open exits," said Tomoyo as she finally understood the plan. Touya glanced at Tomoyo, suspiciously.
"How did you get the job by the way?" wondered Touya.
"I won the contest!" said Tomoyo, proudly. Touya sighed out, helplessly. He always wondered why Yukito will hire someone with no professional experience. Although this was a non-professional job, he would expect to hire someone more knowledgeable. Touya never question it before, but why would a well-off person like Yukito trying to capture a Chocolate Thief? How important was the painting that he stole? And why didn't he hire someone more professional to handle it? Touya snapped out of his thoughts as he knew it was none of his business. As long as he gets paid, that is all it matters.
"Okay, the event is going to start soon. Why don't you check the second floor and I'll check the first," said Touya. Tomoyo nodded as she agreed. Tomoyo and Touya split up as Tomoyo headed upstairs. Tomoyo happily search every room of the second floor. So far, everything was good. Tomoyo walked toward the end of the hallway to the last room on the floor. Tomoyo opened the door, expecting that the room will be clear. But as soon as Tomoyo opened the door, she saw someone unusual inside a cage. Tomoyo gasp as she quickly closed the door.
"What was that…?" mumbled out Tomoyo, surprised. Tomoyo slowly opened the door as she peaked through inside. A tall person, who was wearing all black and a familiar mask, stood silent inside the cage.
"Chocolate Thief?" questioned Tomoyo in disbelief. Tomoyo began to panic as she couldn't believe that the Chocolate Thief was caught right in front of her. Before Tomoyo shut the door, a loud voice yelled out.
"Wait!"
Tomoyo froze as she heard an unfamiliar voice. Something was odd, something was different. Tomoyo opened the door wider to see a clearer view of the thief. As she encountered the Chocolate Thief before, she knew how he looked like.
"Odd, he looks like Chocolate Thief, but his voice…," thought Tomoyo, suspiciously. Tomoyo imagine when she first encountered the Chocolate Thief. His voice was more ominous, but this current thief in front of her sounded friendly.
"Who are you?" asked Tomoyo, cautiously.
"I'm the Chocolate Thief!" he stated, confidently.
Tomoyo raised her eyebrow. "No, you're not."
"Yes, I am."
"Nope, you can't fool me," said Tomoyo, determined.
"Can't you see, I'm wearing the Chocolate Thief outfit!" he said as he turned around in circle to show Tomoyo his entire outfit. Tomoyo knew he wasn't the Chocolate Thief. She should quickly look for Touya and let him know that she caught another thief that was dressed as Chocolate Thief. Tomoyo didn't waste time arguing with the thief. She quickly turned away as she was ready to run off.
"Tomoyo, wait!" he yelled out loud. Tomoyo froze as she heard him calling her name. She slowly turned around toward the thief and stared at him, dumbfounded.
"What did you call me?" asked Tomoyo.
"Can you please help me get out of here?" he pleaded.
"What did you call me?" Tomoyo asked again as she slowly stepped toward the thief.
"Umm…Tomoyo?" he called her again. How did he know? How did this random thief know who she was in her disguise? The only person that knows her identity was Sakura. Tomoyo observed closely at the thief. He wasn't the same thief she met before, but his voice sounded awfully familiar. Where had she heard his voice?
"How did you know who I am?" wondered Tomoyo.
"It's pretty obvious by the way you smell," he commented.
"Smell?" retorted Tomoyo, confused. She didn't wear any perfume nor body mist. Tomoyo suspiciously stared at the thief.
"I know you're not the Chocolate Thief. Chocolate Thief was few inches taller than you, and he had lower tone of voice," stated Tomoyo.
"He is not taller than me. He is just wearing shoes that make him looks taller."
"So, you're really aren't the Chocolate Thief," said Tomoyo as she grinned. The thief stood silent for a moment.
"Fine, I'm not. But you can still help me get out of here?" he pleaded.
"Only if you reveal yourself," said Tomoyo, knowing that he won't reveal himself. It didn't matter if he didn't reveal himself, because he will eventually get reveal at the end.
"Okay!" The thief slowly reached for his mask.
"Wait, you're really going to reveal yourself?" asked Tomoyo in disbelief. The thief pulled away his mask, revealing his messy chestnut color hair. Tomoyo eyes widen, shocked. The thief was no other than Sakura's roommate!
"You!" said Tomoyo as she pointed at Syaoran.
"Now, can you help me?" said Syaoran.
"What are you doing here?" said Tomoyo as she began to panic. What should she do? Should she report him to Touya? But what if he goes to jail for sneaking in here?
"Well, I was looking for something here, but I couldn't find it," said Syaoran.
"The golden egg?" asked Tomoyo.
"There's a golden egg?!" said Syaoran, excitedly.
"You're not here for the egg?" asked Tomoyo.
"No, but then again since I'm here..." Syaoran thought for moment if he should try stealing the golden egg.
"Don't even think about it. It's a trap to capture the Chocolate Thief," explained Tomoyo.
"But how do you know that the Chocolate Thief will come?" wondered Syaoran.
"Well, that's because he usually steals these kinds of stuff, doesn't he?" said Tomoyo.
"Nahhh, he doesn't even know that I stole his outfit," commented Syaoran.
"Wait a second, you know who the Chocolate Thief is?" asked Tomoyo.
Syaoran and Tomoyo stood in silence.
"Tom!" Touya's loud voice vibrate through the hall.
"It's Touya!" said Tomoyo as she began to panic.
"WHAT! Why is he here?" said Syaoran as he began to panic. Tomoyo quickly looked around the trap so she can free Syaoran.
"Touya is going to kill me if he finds out that I sneak in here," said Syaoran, feeling nervous.
"In that outfit, he will probably hand you over to Yukito, thinking you're the Chocolate Thief," said Tomoyo.
"Why Yukito?" wondered Syaoran. Tomoyo glanced at Syaoran.
"You know who Yukito is?" asked Tomoyo.
"Of course, he is Sakura's crush and also my enemy," said Syaoran in a deep voice.
"Enemy?" retorted Tomoyo. Why would Yukito be his enemy?
"Tom?" Both Tomoyo and Syaoran heard Touya's voice nearby.
"Shoot!" said Tomoyo as she quickly looked for the lock. Tomoyo finally found the lock and quickly unlock the cage. Syaoran quickly ran toward the opened window.
"Where are you going? It's the second floor," said Tomoyo. Syaoran put his mask back on and glanced behind at Tomoyo.
"Don't worry, there is a tree next to it so I can jump there and climb down," said Syaoran.
"Wait a second, you broke through the window? But there was a security alarm on it," said Tomoyo.
"It's not too hard shutting off the alarm," commented Syaoran as he watched how Eriol shut off the alarm before. Tomoyo stared at Syaoran, amazed. Although he wasn't the Chocolate Thief, he probably learned his tricks to break in.
"I'll see you later!" said Syaoran as he jumped out of the window. Tomoyo quickly ran toward the window as she couldn't find Syaoran in sight. There were so many questions she had for him. Who was the real Chocolate Thief? How did he know about her secret disguise? And why was Yukito his enemy? Tomoyo quickly walked inside the cage and shut the door as she locked herself in.
"Tom?" said Touya as he entered the room and found Tomoyo inside the cage.
"I'm glad to see you, Touya! I accidently locked myself in here. Hahaha…" said Tomoyo as she awkwardly laughed out loud. Touya sighed out, helplessly. He walked toward the cage and unlocked it.
"Let's go. The event will start soon," said Touya.
"Okay," said Tomoyo as she walked out of the room. Before Touya walked out of the room, he glanced back toward the opened window.
"Why is the window open?" questioned Touya, suspiciously. Touya walked toward the window and glanced outside. He noticed how far off the ground the window was located. There was no way anyone could have sneaked up through here. Touya shut the window as he walked out of the room.
Later in the evening, Eriol got out of the shower as he felt refreshed. He went into his secret room and turned on his computer monitors. He sat back into his comfy chair as he turned on the news. Eriol reached out to his mug and slowly took a sip of his tea.
"Breaking news! Chocolate Thief has done it again! This time he stole the one and only golden egg!"
Eriol quickly splat out the tea, shocked. Eriol leaned forward to his monitor as he listened to the news.
"Just before Yukito's Easter event began, the golden egg went mysteriously missing. I got to admit, I'm pretty amazed!"
Eriol quickly ran toward his closet and dig around, searching for his Chocolate Thief outfit. Eriol clenched his fist, angrily, as he couldn't find his outfit.
"SYAORAN!"
