(A/N) This chapter'll be fun…
Edit: Haha, I might have forgotten I killed Fugaku! Oops. So he has been replaced by a random OC uncle.
Kushina woke up in the hospital. Naruto was crying nearby, so she hopped out of bed, and wobbled over to him, gently picking him up and moving back to her bed.
Naruto stopped crying almost immediately, grinning up toothlessly up at her.
"Are you hungry?" She cooed, waving a finger at him. Naruto tried grabbing the finger but missed.
Kushina took pity on him and started feeding him.
A tallish red-headed woman entered, looking pleased that Kushina was awake.
"Who're you, dattebane!" Kushina shouted, adjusting Naruto so she could point at the woman.
"Mito Senju," she replied calmly. "You may finish feeding the kid before I inform the nurses you are awake." With that, she turned and left, Kushina staring after her in confusion.
Naruto finished eating, so Kushina quickly started burping him.
Mito came back a few moments later, a nurse in tow.
"Kushina!" The nurse fretted. "Should you really be up?"
Kushina was almost offended, but knew these weren't Uzushio doctors, they didn't know how fast Uzumaki women recovered. "I am perfectly fine, thank you very much."
Mito smiled politely at the nurse when the woman turned to her, as if pleading for help. "Uzumaki women recover quickly from childbirth. If Kushina wishes to leave, she may."
The nurse looked like she wanted to argue, but submitted with just a touch of flared chakra. "I'll fill out the needed paperwork."
"Thank you," Mito said primly. The nurse scrambled out of the door, and Mito strode over to Kushina's bedside. "You've grown up guppy."
"I'm not a guppy anymore," Kushina pouted. "I even have my own guppy."
Mito inclined her head. "Of course, Kushina."
"How are you here?" Kushina wondered, rocking Naruto slightly.
Mito shrugged. "I don't know. I only know I woke up to the Kyuubi loose."
Kushina lay back in the bed, frowning deeply. "He escaped in the child birth. Or rather, someone took advantage of the weakened seal to tear him out of me."
Mito's face darkened. Kushina was suddenly struck with a strand of pity for her attacker that was quickly snapped. He deserved anything he got. "Who."
"He called himself Uchiha Madara I believe. Couldn't have been him though, hair was way too short," Kushina snorted, remembering the many stories Mito had told her of Madara's prized hair.
Mito hummed in agreement. "That is, however, a matter for another day. The council is calling for blood. They don't particularly care who's, however."
Kushina glanced down at her son. "You think they'll call for Naruto's."
Mito nodded. "He is the jinchuuriki of the Kyuubi."
Kushina sighed, rocking her sleeping son. "I fear, guppy, you'll have a much harder life than I ever did."
"He has two previous holders of the Kyuubi protecting him," Mito said, settling herself delicately on the end of Kushina's bed. "Both of whom are seal mistresses. I highly doubt anything short of the real Madara and Hashirama will get to him if we don't want them to."
Kushina grinned, a wild and savage grin. "Shall we go crash their party?"
Mito returned the smile, albeit somewhat subdued. She did have an appearance to keep up, after all. "That would be why I am here, instead of there. Can you walk, or do I need to fetch a wheel chair?"
Kushina swung her legs over the side of her bed, carefully handing Naruto to Mito in case she fell, and stood up, wobbling slightly, but upright. She took a few steps, then nodded. "Let's go."
Mito tried to hand Naruto back to her, but Kushina refused. "I don't want to accidentally drop him or something."
Mito inclined her head, following Kushina out into the hallway.
They made it to the council room. Kushina did the deed, kicking the door in, and striding into the room.
The council, being made up of the clan heads, a couple of important and high ranking civilians, the three being the blacksmith for most of the ANBU and the primary seal distributor, the Akimichi who ran most of the food places in Konoha, a civilian, not a ninja, and the head of the orphanages. All three were quite knowledgeable about ninja life, and were privy to most of the high ranking secrets. They were all quite level headed, as was necessary for working with ninja. Of course, Danzo, Hiruzen, Homura, and Koharu were all there, Hiruzen as the previous Hokage, and Danzo, Homura, and Koharu as the elders.
"You forgot a few people," was Kushina's introductory line.
Mito sighed.
Danzo looked about as surprised as a crippled geezer could look. "We thought you were still recovering."
Kushina pointed at him. "Wrong! You should've told me!" Ignoring the fact she just woke up like ten minutes ago.
Tsume Inuzuka cackled. "Shouldn't have underestimated a Uzushio woman, Danzo!"
Danzo frowned deeply at the Inuzuka clan head.
Hiruzen sighed. "I assure you, Kushina, it was not on purpose. You two may have a seat if you wish. We were just debating what to do in light of Minato's death. The village cannot remain without a Hokage for long."
"We should have a list of candidates then," Mito said, quickly taking the reins. The shadow clone she had hidden in here before had been so tired of the endless bickering in circles they seemed to do. It was not going to be tolerated any longer.
"I put forth myself," Danzo said immediately.
Mito shrugged, glancing at Shibi Aburame, who had pulled out a piece of paper from somewhere, and had written Danzo's name on it. "I suggest Denki Uchiha."
Danzo narrowed his eyes at her immediately. "Why do you suggest an Uchiha."
Mito quickly handed Naruto to Kushina, who leaned against the nearby wall to rock him. "Because they are one of the most loyal clans in Konoha. They have free reign over the police force for a reason."
"Because no other clan would take it?" Hiashi Hyuuga scoffed.
Mito raised her eyebrow, turning to Denki Uchiha. "Uchiha-dono. Primary job of the Konoha Police Force."
"To ensure the orphans of Konoha that have moved out of the orphanage are doing well in addition to patrolling and holding minor criminals," he said cooly, folding his arms.
Mito smiled triumphantly. "Tobirama entrusted the children, who he considered the future, and most precious of the citizens of Konoha, to the Uchiha. I see no reason why he shouldn't be the Hokage."
Traces of surprise were showing on Denki's face, and Mito could only tell them because of previous experience with Uchiha expressions. Were the Uchiha hated for some strange reason? Mito archived that thought, and decided to come back to it later.
"I say Mito and Kushina," Tsume decided, grinning savagely. "It's about time we had a female Hokage."
Shibi inclined his head, writing their names down.
"Does anyone have any logical reasons against any of the candidates?" Mito asked calmly, looking straight at Danzo.
Danzo stood up. "You're both foreign kunoichi. I don't see why you should be an option."
Kushina's hair started floating around her, and she was visibly restraining herself.
Mito's posture straightened, if that was even possible. She stalked over to Danzo. "Danzo Shimura. I have lived in Konoha since its founding. I knew you in diapers, and I sure as heck have lived here longer than you have. In addition, according to Konoha laws, any Uzushio citizen automatically has citizenship in Konoha. I am no more a foreign kunoichi than Inuzuka-dono. I was married to the first Hokage, Kushina married to the fourth. We both held the utmost burden for Konoha's good, and now Kushina's son holds that same burden." With her rant finished, she turned away from the thoroughly chewed out Danzo, and turned to the other clan heads. "Do any of you have any other complaints about the candidates?"
"We should add Hiruzen," Homura said quickly before shrinking back in his seat as Mito glanced at him.
"Alright. Hiruzen, Danzo, Denki, myself, and Kushina are the candidates for the next Hokage. We need to take our vote," Mito said, scanning the council. "Hiruzen, you begin."
"Kushina. I believe she will lead our village into a new era of prosperity and peace," the aged Hokage said. "And I would like to keep my retirement, thank you very much."
Danzo was next in line unfortunately. "Myself. I will lead Konoha into an era of prosperity."
Homura thought about it for a bit, then settled with "Hiruzen. Why change what wasn't broken then?"
"Mito," Koharu decided. "She has a level head and has led well in the past."
The clan heads were next.
Inoichi debated for a while. "Denki."
"Kushina," Chouza said, smiling genuinely.
"Mito," Shikaku drawled, yawning. "It's only logical."
"Kushina!" Tsume shouted, grinning.
"Mito," Shibi said calmly, writing down the votes as they were given.
"Hiruzen," Hiashi said, looking deeply displeased.
"Mito," Denki said, inclining his head at Mito.
"Denki," the blacksmith settled on, smiling politely at the Uchiha clan head. Mito inwardly frowned at the growing surprise.
"Kushina," the Akimichi civilian said, smiling in a manner very close to his clan head.
"Danzo," the matron said finally. Mito frowned internally. That would have to be addressed later.
"Mito and Kushina are tied at the top," Shibi stated after a second. "Hokage-sama, Danzo, and Uchiha-dono are tied two points below them."
(A/N) I think I'll end this here… Didja like Mito chewing out Danzo? I loved writing it, it was certainly a blast.
