(A/N) So, ah, sorry about the problem with last chapter, it has been rectified. I may or may not have completely forgotten I killed Fugaku and he has since been replaced by some random named cousin. Who gets the dubious job of being the head of the Uchiha clan. Yay for him? Also you think Danzo is gonna stand for being chewed out?
"All that and we come to a tie," Hiruzen sighed.
"I have an idea," Denki noted mildly.
"We'll just have to revote," Danzo snapped over the temporary Uchiha clan head.
"Why don't we listen to Uchiha-dono," Shibi said mildly, folding the paper neatly.
Danzo sulked as he was ignored, the council turning to Denki, who stood up. "I suggest dual kage-ship. Mito, while powerful and an excellent leader, has only just arrived here. Kushina, while also very powerful, and familiar with the job due to her husband, has a new child to take care of, and as far as I have seen, not prone to the diplomatic approach. No offense intended, of course, occasionally the straightforward approach can be useful. With duel kage-ship, both issues are solved."
"We've never had two Hokage on the seat at once," Homura said, frowning deeply.
"We've also only had four Hokage," Mito pointed out. "In the founding of Konoha we did originally only intend for there to be one Hokage, although Tobirama did insist upon a specific claus allowing for two Hokage, should there be no single person sufficiently powerful or intelligent in the village. We almost made Madara and Hashirama duel Hokage, although Madara declined working with Hashirama."
"I say we do it," Hiruzen said. "It will be good for Konoha."
The clan heads agreed, and Mito smirked as Danzo reluctantly nodded as well, clearly knowing he could do nothing.
"We'll announce your inauguration tomorrow," Hiruzen said, standing up. "This meeting is over, I believe many of you have people to get home to."
The clan heads nodded in agreement, and filed out. Mito quickly shooed Kushina out with them, remaining in the room with Danzo until everyone else had left.
"You should've waited until after the meeting to make a personal problem with me known, Mito," Danzo said, clearly getting rid of the suffix on purpose.
"Uzumaki-sama will do for you," Mito said formally, eyes sparking dangerously.
"Fine then, Uzumaki-sama," he spat the name out like it was a curse. "You should have waited until afterwards."
"Should I?" She asked, raising an eyebrow. "Do I not have the right to chew you out when you are acting like a fool? I was merely doing it in Tobirama's place. He would've happily carried out the execution of your pride and social standing. At least I was nice about it, and only challenged you over a single matter, in front of the people that mattered to that matter."
Danzo almost growled at her, it was almost funny. "That was not nice."
"But it was far kinder than Tobirama would have been," Mito said, smirking. "He would have publicly eviscerated you for everything you have done. Really? Driving the Uchiha away from the village? Is that really going to end well?"
Danzo continued glaring at her as she paced around him, more like stalked around him, like a lioness circling her prey.
"You are old, Danzo," she said, pausing in front of him. "You shouldn't even be thinking about the seat at your age. Just know, that one misstep, and I will not be so lenient as to leave you to your own devices. One toe out of line and you will see just how cruel Uzumaki women can be when they have been wronged."
With that delivered, she disappeared, leaving to get the Hokage office set up and to pick up a copy of the current law book. She would meet Kushina later. For now she had work to do.
The office was in disarray, Minato had clearly kept on top of his paperwork, good on him, but it had somewhat piled up in the chaos of the Kyuubi attack. Mito created four clones to get to work on that, She was one of the fifth Hokage, she could deal with the paperwork this time.
While her clones worked Mito found a copy of the law book, and settled down to read it. She found a highlighter and a colored sharpie in the drawers of the desk, highlighting the important laws, and crossing out ones that were stupid and needed to be gotten rid of. It would be good to cut down on the law book. She did have to fetch a second highlighter for laws that could be condensed or combined with other similar laws. This project would take months, likely, and it was good to get a headstart on it.
Two hours later it was nearing dinner time, and her clones had mostly finished organizing the paperwork into neat stacks. They popped themselves, and Mito sealed the law book and her marking weapons of choice away. She incinerated the pile they had made for that, smiling happily at watching the paperwork burn. It had all been stupid requests that she would never okay, so she set them ablaze.
When the fire had burned out, she stomped out the remaining cinders, doused the ashes in a quick water jutsu to be sure, then left, heading for where Kushina's chakra signature resided.
Kushina had made dinner, expertly balancing Naruto while she cooked, and Mito was impressed. It had been a whole two children before she worked out how to do that.
"I was about to send a clone for you," Kushina said as Mito entered, shifting Naruto to her other hip. "What were you doing?"
"Marking up a law book for starters," Mito said, sighing. "And sorting the paperwork we have to do. There is quite a bit of it."
"Good thing we have clones," Kushina muttered, shuddering.
Mito hummed in agreement. "Thank you for the meal."
"No problem! I love cooking!" Kushina chirped, going from annoyed at the prospect of paperwork, to delighted at the drop of a hat.
"I will handle the law book and the changes that need to be made and everything that comes with it if you handle the paperwork for the time I'm doing it," Mito bargained, holding up the law book with her free hand. "Trust me, we'll be doing equal amounts of paperwork."
Kushina eyed the book, then nodded. "Alright, deal. How should we handle this? We don't both need to be in the office all the time."
"I believe that one of us should always be at home with little Naruto, and the one at the Hokage tower can have a clone here. The one at home will send clones to do the work they would have if they weren't home with Naruto," Mito finished off her food as she spoke, starting to take the dishes to the sink.
"So you are staying here," Kushina asked, grinning.
"I was planning on it, if that's alright with you," Mito agreed, nodding.
"It'd be a great help," Kushina said, shifting Naruto, who had dozed off. "We can repurpose the guest room for you without too much difficulty. Naruto's room is between mine and the guest room, so it won't be difficult to reach him, should a problem arise."
Mito nodded. "Tomorrow. Tonight we relax. Yesterday was quite the day afterall."
"Tomorrow will also be quite the day," Kushina agreed, yawning in time with her son.
"Sleep first though," Mito chastised, taking Naruto from Kushina and shooing the woman towards her room. "I will get Naruto into bed, you get yourself into bed."
Kushina nodded reluctantly, disappearing into her room.
Mito smiled, Naruto already almost asleep in her arms. "Into bed for you too, mister."
