(A/N) Should be an adventure I say as this ends up being a mess. Probably anyway.

"They want to have a delegation come for the signing of the treaty," Mito summarized out loud to Kushina, who hadn't wanted to bother reading the letter for some reason.

"Sounds suspicious," Kushina decided.

"You think everything from Kumo is suspicious except their bird."

"They tried to kidnap me when I was a kid, of course, I do."

"Good point."

"So keep a close eye on the delegation?"

"And extra guards everywhere else," Mito agreed. "Especially around compounds, and especially around the Hyuuga and Uchiha compounds."

"Agreed," Kushina said, writing it down. "I'll start asking the clans to figure it out themselves and see what I can do about getting ANBU teams back here in time for the delegation to arrive. When do they come?"

"Soonest is in a month," Mito said, tapping the calendar. "Right around Hinata's birthday. The Hyuuga clan heiress."

"Can we push it back a couple of weeks then? I don't want to interrupt little Hinata's birthday," Kushina decided.

"I'll send them a date then," Mito agreed. She finished writing the letter, then handed it to Kushina. "Take that down to the falconry station and have them send it off please."

Kushina nodded, flouncing out. Mito sighed, looking at the paperwork still left to go through. She made four shadow clones and got to work. With any luck and some hard work, they'd be back in plenty of time to make a good dinner, instead of heating up leftovers, or grabbing something on the way.

A month and a half later, and Kumo had arrived to begin peace talks. Mito didn't trust them, and neither did Kushina, so both went everywhere together, instead of leaving and sending shadow clones.

Naruto also went everywhere with them, generally toddling alongside them, having long since learned to walk, or being carried by either woman when he got tired. Luckily he was fairly easily entertained in a corner of the office if they gave him enough toys to play with and had a shadow clone playing with him. Not for the first time, Mito thanked Kaguya that Naruto was an easy peaceful child who only occasionally had a penchant for mischief.

Luckily, the kid seemed to get that the situation was serious and refrained from any shenaniganary.

It was going smoothly, almost too smoothly. Mito was suspicious, but grateful nothing was happening.

The final day they were there, decided because talks had been completed and there was a legitimate treaty already signed by Mito and Kushina, now just needed to be signed by A, the Raikage.

They were having a celebration, basically the entire village was out and around, celebrating the new advent of more peace. Mito and Kushina wandered the festival together, Naruto by their side. He was wearing a little backpack with a leash, although it was more for the leash then for holding anything.

Mito spotted a Kumo nin slipping into a shadowy alley, then disappearing, and handed off Naruto's leash to Kushina. "Don't wait up on me, I'll catch up."

Kushina raised an eyebrow at her, but nodded anyway, and Mito slipped away.

She followed the Kumo nin easily, her own ANBU escort following her silently. The Kumo nin didn't even seem to notice he had Mito and about eight ANBU following him. Mito was almost impressed at his stupidity.

He looked to be heading for the Hyuuga compound, and Mito silently signaled a few ANBU to go on ahead to ambush him once he reached the compound. Four disappeared in silent shunshins, leaving her with four. It'd be plenty.

Although it did bring to question why exactly the Kumo nin was likely attempting to kidnap a Hyuuga, most likely Hinata, as she was a young unsealed main branch Hyuuga. Well, other then bloodline theft. The big question was really why they thought this was a good idea.

She quickly flashed the sign for 'keep alive' at the ANBU, who pulsed their chakra lightly in agreement.

The nin finally stopped, faced with four ANBU standing brazenly on the branches in front of him. Mito signaled the other four to land behind him while she hung back for a moment. She'd go in if he really needed scaring.

The nin looked ready to fight, so Mito shunshined down and stood right in his line of sight. "You're pretty far from the festivities," Mito commented cooly.

"I got lost," the Kumo nin tried.

Mito raised an eyebrow. "Wow, I'm impressed. You managed to get lost nearly a mile from the main epicenter of the festivities and right next to the Hyuug compound. Amazing." The sarcasm was dripping from her voice.

The nin attempted bluffing. "I haven't done anything, you can't actually detain me."

"I rather think I can. This is trespassing after all," Mito hummed, tapping her chin with one finger. This would be resolved quickly with any small amount of luck and if she had anything to say about it. "Get back to the festivities and don't mention the ANBU following you, and I won't do anything or mention this again. Don't go anywhere near the Hyuuga, any of them at all, and we'll drop this little incident. Break any of those rules and the Raikage will hear about this."

The nin glared at her, but eventually cracked and agreed. Mito smirked as the ANBU escorted him back, and shunshined back to Kushina's side.

"Was it anything?" Kushina asked quietly, patting Naruto's head.

"Not anymore," Mito replied cheerfully, grabbing three candied apples from a nearby seller, dropping the right amount of coins on their table. She handed one to Kushina and one to Naruto. "It's been taken care of quite handily."

(A/N) Because it's late and I'm tired, I'm calling that good. We movin on tomorrow. Maybe they won't fight me the entire way for the next arc.
