NATASHA
Natasha Romanoff tapped her foot impatiently as she waited at the door of Stark towers. Jarvis said that he was 'informing Mr. Stark of her presence' and told her to wait. She was good at waiting - usually. But at the moment there were quite a few powerful people who wouldn't mind seeing her in front of a firing squad, and she needed a place to lay low. Anyone could be a spy. One of the security guards at the entrance (not Happy obviously), the woman crossing the road wearing clothes a little too dark and unnoticeable for Natasha's liking, the man driving the bus..
"Mr. Stark told me to tell you to go to floor 106, and not to kill anyone when you see a kid in a swirling green bubble."
Jarvis said abruptly. When? A swirling green bubble? Honestly, Natasha doubted anything could surprise her anymore. She had met at least three gods, had killed countless people, and had almost died even more countless times. A swirling green bubble she could handle. She looked over her shoulder to make sure that no one was following her - an old habit - and walked into the lobby. Happy eyed her and then touched his ear: probably hearing Jarvis in his earpiece telling him to let her pass. he nodded to her and returned to his stance beside the doorway. She walked to the other side of the room towards the elevator, right next to an indoor waterfall (Eye roollll. Tony was soo extra) and pressed the button. After a moment the was a dinging noise and the doors opened. Thankfully it was empty; Natasha didn't want to talk to some stranger for 100 floors. She stepped in and pressed the button for floor 106. She expected regular elevator music like the last time she'd been there, but all she heard was a voice recording of Tony saying about once every minute;
"Hi. I don't shit with elevator music. Just go to whatever floor you want and only bug me if you have an invitation."
Natasha rolled her eyes. Typical Tony. whe she reached floor 106, she walked through the kitchen and into the living area, where - as Tony promised - she saw a boy who couldn't have been more than 16 sitting cross-legged inside a swirling green bubble. She saw Tony look towards her and wave.
"Hiya Little Red!"
He said. Natasha scanned the room and saw two other people. Thor - not so surprising - and..
"Loki!"
Natasha snarled, couching into a defensive position, ready to spring.
"Nat.. Remember what I said about not killing anyone?"
Tony chastised. Natasha flashed a questioning look at him; she though that Loki was a common enemy of sorts between them.
"He's helping my- he's helping the kid."
Tony explained. Nat's eyes narrowed at the god, warning him that her guard was up. Loki just smirked. Ugh, she hated that guy. When she was done eyeing Loki up, she focused on the boy inside the bubble. he had curly brown hair and looked like he was hyperventilating.
"Is he.. Okay? He looks like he's having a seizure or something."
Everyone looked at the boy in the bubble. Some sort of unspoken conversation happened between him and Loki. She saw the boy's mouth moving, but he couldn't hear him. Loki's mouth didn't move at all.
"He's fine. He's just really exited to meet you."
Loki said. Natasha wasn't sure how he knew that, but as if to prove Loki's point, the boy waved eagerly from inside the bubble. Natasha frowned.
"Why can't I hear him? And.. Well why is he even in the bubble in the first place?"
Natasha asked. Loki explained to her that he couldn't hear them and they couldn't hear him, only him and Loki could communicate. After telling her that though, everyone seemed unsure whether or not to continue. Natasha read the situation easily. They knew something she did not. As an ex-spy/assassin, that was an extreme no-no. So she needed to take that advantage from them as soon as possible.
"I can keep a secret."
She assured them. After an unspoken agreement with bubble-boy, Loki proceeded to tell her the most ridiculous, and yet unsurprising to Natasha's lifestyle, story she had ever heard. A radioactive spider?? She laughed, but saw no reason not to believe them. She had heard crazier stories. She was, after all, in a room with two gods.
"So the boys name is..?"
Natasha asked. Everyone in the room, except bubble-boy in question of course, answered at once.
"Peter."
Natasha nodded, soaking up the information. So bubble-boy was Peter, aka spider.. ling. Spider boy? Spider man. That was it. Even though he only looked about 15. More of a child than a man. Suddenly she noticed the positioning of everyone in the room. They all seemed to be gravitating towards Peter. She took a closer look at the boy sitting cross-legged inside the bubble of green mist. He seemed to radiate light and purity.
"He wants to talk to you."
Loki said abruptly. He was have been talking to Peter while she was thinking, and now he was holding out his hand to her.
"May I?"
She took his hand disdainfully, giving in only to her curiosity. As soon as their skin made contact, she heard an extra set of quick breathing in the room.
"Miss Romanoff ma'am? Can you hear me?"
Peter asked. Then, more quietly he added;
"Omigosh I am talking to Black Widow right now. Wowowow."
Natasha smiled. She was glad someone enjoyed her presence.
"I can hear you fine. Loki told me your name is Peter?"
She said in a soft voice, not wanting to startle him. For some reason he flinched a little at the sound of her voice, but barely enough to be noticeable.
"Yup that's right I'm Peter! Did they tell you about the whole.. Spider thing?"
He asked her, speaking impossibly quietly.
'Speak quietly.'
A voice said in Natasha's head. She jumped.
"What the fuck??"
She exclaimed. Peter cried out and covered his ears. She thought maybe he was just sensitive to explicity [A.N: I'm not sure if that's a word but let's just say it is] until the voice spoke again.
'Shhhh!! He' s extremely sensitive to sound at the moment.'
It said. Natasha finally realised that it was Loki, speaking in her mind. the thought of causing Peter pain was unthinkable, even though she had just met him.
"I'll be quiet."
She whispered.
Loki nodded. She and Peter continued to speak; or Peter spoke and Natasha listened. He mostly just spoke about how cool he thought she was and how he had seen the avengers in the battle of New York. She frantically asked if he was part of the battle, petrified that he could've been hurt, but he assured her no, he wasn't. They spoke until Tony and Thor had both left, and only Loki was left holding up the bubble and letting Natasha speak to Peter. The sun started to set, and Peter started to yawn.
"You should sleep. You seem like you've had a long day."
Natasha advised him. He rubbed his eyes.
"You know what? I might just take you up on that offer."
He said, yawning again. Loki moved the bubble around him as he headed to the bedroom, Natasha noticing that Mjolnir was on the floor where the bubble used to be. Peter climbed into bed fully clothed, too exhausted to change. Natasha attempted in vain to pull down the blinds until eventually she found a button on the wall next to the window and they rolled down automatically. Natasha rolled her eyes. Tony made everything automatic these days. Loki sat in a chair by the bed, keeping the bubble up, and Peter fell asleep almost immediately. Natasha didn't know how, but Peters face somehow looked even more innocent when he was sleeping. She stood watching him for a moment, and then tucked the blanket up to his chin before walking out.
And just like that, Peter had three avengers and a god willing to risk their own lives for his.
