This one's pretty much a filler chapter, but I hope you guys enjoy it anyway.
Guest 2.0: At the moment, I plan only to have Oliver use the Green Arrow suit he's been using since season five, but that may change later on.
Guest: Glad to hear it.
Camp Half-Blood, The Big House
Mid afternoon
In the Rec Room, everyone was silent after Oliver, Annabeth, and Percy explained to Chiron and M. D. what had happened in the cave, specifically, Rachel's prophecy.
"Well, I need a drink. If only father would lift my restrictions," Mr. D. sighed miserably but he went mostly ignored.
"It appears The Oracle itself has demanded a quest," Chiron muttered.
"Which probably means I am this forbidden hero your prophecy is talking about, right?" Oliver asked for clarification.
"It would appear so, but at the moment, it is Rachel's new prophecy that concerns me," Chiron said, putting a hand to his beard as he looked thoughtful.
"Well, 'Three shall go west' seems pretty obvious. Oliver was sent to find a daughter of Athena and a son of Poseidon. He found them," Percy pointed out as he gestured to himself and Annabeth.
"Percy's right. We need to go on this quest with Oliver," Annabeth said and it didn't escape Oliver's notice that neither she nor Percy looked happy about that.
Not that he could blame them. From the sounds of it, this quest was going be dangerous. And from the looks in Percy and Annabeth's eyes, their lives had been filled with enough danger and pain already. He hated that more people had to be dragged into his mess, again.
"'The watcher will guide them on their quest' also seems obvious," Oliver noted and everyone looked at him. "The Monitor sent me here. No doubt he'll tell us where to go next, what to do."
"If I know Mar Novu, I would say that Oliver is correct. But the rest of the prophecy is unclear to me," Chiron noted grimly. 'Beasts and monsters, they will seek'. It is not uncommon for danger to be on a quest, but this suggests you will actively seek out monsters."
It was silent in the room as the demigods digested this. Oliver didn't know much about monsters, but he knew to seek them out was incredibly rare, near unheard of. And to do so was incredibly dangerous for a demigod. Oliver thought him trying to save Malcom from Ra's sounded a whole lot less crazy in comparison.
"'Old friends will aid when danger is at its peak'," Annabeth said, breaking Oliver out of his thoughts. "It means we won't be alone on this quest. When we're in the most danger, our friends will help us."
"Annabeth, you of all people know that prophecies can be interpreted in many different ways," Chiron said with a sigh.
"Then how else can we interpret that?" Annabeth challenged.
"Wise Girl, I think Chiron only means we shouldn't take it at face value. We all know prophecies, they're never what they seem," Percy said, trying to calm her and, after a moment, she nodded.
'Mortals and demigods must unite in the perilous land'," Mr. D. said and they all looked over at him. "It's very unusual for mortals and demigods to work together."
"But not unheard of," Chiron pointed out and Mr. D. shrugged, seeming indifferent.
"You wish to put your faith in mortals, be my guest. What do I care?" Mr. D. grumbled.
Only the years of training and discipline prevented Oliver from lashing out at the god. Oliver took a breath as Percy spoke.
"'And a hero will make his final stand'," Percy said and the room went silent. "Not a whole lot of ways to interpret that."
"Perhaps not, but as we learned with the great prophecy, it may not refer to Oliver or either of you," Chiron said and Annabeth looked pained for a moment, making Oliver wonder what the story was there before Annabeth schooled her features.
"So looks like we have a quest," Annabeth said as she looked over at Oliver.
"You don't have to come with me. You can stay here if you want. I don't want to involve you," Oliver offered and Mr. D. laughed.
"This one has much to learn," Mr. D. said amused. "You can't fight a prophecy hero. Many have tried, it never ends well."
"Mr. D is right, I'm afraid," Chiron said with a sigh. "To attempt to fight this prophecy would be unwise Oliver. Whether you wish it or not, Percy and Annabeth must accompany you on this quest."
This did not improve Oliver's mood. No matter how hard he tried, someone else was always being forced to follow him into danger. He hated it…but he could do nothing to change it. For better or worse, Percy and Annabeth were stuck with him on this quest.
"I will arrange a mode of transportation for the three of you in the morning," Chiron said, breaking Oliver out of his thoughts. "For now, enjoy the rest of the day. Tomorrow, you will set off."
Oliver spent the rest of the day in his cabin, looking at a picture in his wallet. It was of himself, Felicity, and Mia, taken shortly after Mia had been born. He wondered what they were doing, if Mia was missing him, if she sensed that her father was gone. Some selfish part of him wanted that to be the case. But a bigger part of him hoped Mia was being well behaved, Felicity had enough to worry about with him leaving and not coming back, without Mia being a fussy baby as well.
These thoughts flew through his mind as laid on his bunk, staring at the picture. At some point, he fell asleep.
He dreamed of Felicity. She was back at the cabin, on her laptop. Oliver could see that there was a digital map of a road but something was off. It seemed like Felicity was trying to track something but couldn't quiet pin down the location.
"This is what happens every time I try and track him. I pin down his location to New York but I can never get an exact location. It's like there's some kind of interference," Felicity said, her voice full of frustration.
Someone else then stepped into Oliver's line of sight. It was Barry, Oliver realized with a start.
But something was different about him. Barry seemed to have aged a thousand years since Oliver had last seen him. His eyes held a hardness that wasn't there before, the spark of optimism had gone out in Barry. What had happened to him, Oliver wondered.
"Why didn't you call Dig with this? I'm sure Argus could help more than I could," Barry pointed out.
"If it was just an ordinary missing person's case, I would. But this…I don't even know what this is. But you deal with stuff like this all the time. I'm hoping The Flash will have a better chance at finding my husband," Felicity said, a steely glint of determination entering her eyes.
Then the dream changed. He was in a forest, Oliver actually recognized it. This forest led directly to a lake a few miles down. His father had taken him and Tommy fishing there a lot when they were kids.
Hearing a noise, Oliver turned around. A young man, early to mid-twenties, walked through the forest. He had a fishing hat on and had fishing gear in his hands. For a reason Oliver couldn't name, he looked vaguely familiar.
Suddenly, there was a sound that pierced the air. It was a low growl that startled Oliver. The young man froze as well, looking around for the source of the growl. Suddenly, something jumped out of the bushes.
For a moment, there was a blur of movement and Oliver had trouble processing what he was seeing until it all stopped. A black dog, easily the size of a bear with glowing red eyes, was on top the man as it pinned him to the ground, trying to get a good bite in. The man tried to use his fishing pole as a shield but the dog easily bit it in two. The dog's mouth clamped down on the man's arm and he cried out in pain. Oliver was sure the man was going to die.
Then something flew out and hit the dog in the back. With a yelp, the dog let the man go as Oliver stared at the silver arrow sticking out of the dog's back. A second one hit the dog and, to Oliver's shock, it seemed to disintegrate, as though it was never there to begin with.
The only evidence of the dog was the wound on the man's arm. It was a nasty bite wound, much worse than Oliver's when he had been attacked by the shark on Lian Yu. The man seemed out of it as someone approached. Oliver turned to look when he heard a knocking sound.
He opened his eyes, finding himself back at the Artemis cabin. It was night and someone was knocking on the cabin door.
Oliver blearily got up, his mind trying to make sense of his dreams as he made his way to the door. He opened it but found no one there. Oliver thought one of the Hermes kids might have been playing a prank on him until he looked down.
There was a large package on the front porch with the words 'for Oliver Queen' on the brown paper wrapping. Oliver looked around but Camp Half-Blood was silent. Apparently, he'd missed dinner.
Oliver picked up the package and brought it inside. Turning the lights on, he put it on his bunk.
Normally, he'd be a lot more wearily of strange packages on his porch. But Camp Hal-Blood didn't allow any mortals, save Rachel, inside. So this was either a gift from someone in camp…or someone with divine influence. Carefully, Oliver opened the package, peeling off the wrapping and stared at what was inside.
It was a silver bow, unlike any he had ever seen. It was clearly made with care, Oliver noted as he picked it up to examine it. Oliver glanced down at the quiver full of silver arrows that came with it, noticing a card next to it. Picking it up, he read the words on it. It was in Ancient Greek, but Oliver was able to read it as though it were in English.
'May these arrows and bow serve you well on your journey. Use them wisely my son' it read.
Oliver stared down at the card for a moment before looking down at the bow and quiver. So this was a gift from Artemis then.
"Thank you…mother," Oliver said awkwardly, the word feeling strange on his mouth, hoping Artemis could hear it wherever she was at.
This story does not follow Flash season six. I'm not sure how season six addressed Barry's grief over Nora, as I did not watch season six save for Crisis, but I'm going to show the effects of that loss on Barry.
