Chapter 5: The Rescue
Returning to the first Labyrinth and high above the depths of the twisting abyss, the Tamers knew that somewhere deep down were their partners, all hoping that the Digimon were alright, or the very least, they could survive until they were reunited.
The whole way, though none had asked about it, Rika and the others took note of Takato's changes, his mechanical arm.
But being the same thoughtless friend he was, Kazu broke the silence and had to ask about it, tapping it a little as he questioned. "Hey, Takato. I hate to ask but what happened to your arm, and where did you get this upgrade?"
"If you wish to live, you'd better think of someone else to annoy. It's a painful business" Takato said crossly, this causing Kazu to gulp nervously and to back away from the dreading fear filling his being.
Though curious herself about Takato's arm, Rika was smart and knew to keep her thoughts quiet.
All that mattered to her for now was rescuing Renamon.
"Stop!" Guilmon suddenly let out as he looked upon the floor, his senses helping him pick through the more puzzling of the labyrinth. "I sense Impmon and the others are just below us. I am guessing at least thirty floors down."
"Thirty floors?!" Henry questioned, both astonished to the continued complexity of the maze, as well as concerned for Terriermon and their partners. "But we won't make it in time!"
"Oh, yes we will." Takato just said, pushing past the Tamers and looking to the ground.
"Stand next to us and don't get in the way. Guilmon, time to use that other sword." The brunette then instructed, his words continuing to leave the Tamers solemn, confused and upset to Takato distance, while Guilmon smirked and nodded.
Obeying his Tamer, Guilmon summoned the blade he obtained from the knight, calling the knight's sword out of his original, before channeling its energies and igniting the blade.
Curious, but keeping her distance, Alice asked. "And what are you planning to do with that?"
"Just watch and you see." Guilmon said back, before he plunged the sword down into the ground, carving the blade around the Tamers and cutting through the ground in a circular motion.
"Wait... he isn't..." Jeri began to say, thinking she understood the gist of Takato's idea, but wasn't completely onboard with it.
"Best hold on tight. It'll be a bumpy ride." Takato said as he withdrew his revolvers, preparing himself for whatever dared oppose them.
-Some hours earlier-
Traversing through the tunnels, the Digimon continued in their search for Takato and Guilmon, still unaware of the fate of their friends, with Renamon keeping a strong lead, feeling a growing concern for the red dino Digimon.
Arriving at a central chamber, the Digimon took a moment as to take a brief break and to plan their next moves, though something didn't abide too well with Biyomon.
"Something isn't right." The avian Digimon let out, her words agreed by Impmon, who added. "She's right. We've explored so much of these tunnels, so why haven't we encountered any monsters?"
"It could be the floor we've been on. Perhaps only certain floors are patrolled by those wicked creatures?" Guardromon suggested, which earned an agreeing nod from MarineAngemon.
"I think we'd wise if we head back soon." Cyberdramon suggested to Renamon, the foxy Digimon fanning her fan blades to her face, finding the temperatures a little hotter than anticipated, and in agreement with Cyberdramon's words.
"I've got a bad feeling about this. We should contact our Tamers to let them know what's going on." Cyberdramon added, showing a more logical and less brash side to his personality.
However, despite her own logical side telling her to listen, feeling a small gnawing in her heart, Renamon then shook her head and stated. "We cannot turn back now. We have to keep going."
Confused a little to the role reversal, to find Cyberdramon wanting to retreat for the time being and Renamon almost looking for a fight, MarineAngemon floated in front of Renamon, looking at her as if asking what was troubling her, but found Impmon cut in as his voice resonated through the area.
"Hey, guys. Look what I found here!"
Following Impmon's call, the Digimon circled around Impmon, taking notice of the huge splashes of yellow liquid on the ground.
Sliding a finger along the substance and examining it a little, Impmon questioned. "This is monsters' blood isn't it?"
"Looks like it." Terriermon replied, only to look around and add with a growing confusion. "But I don't see anything around here but us."
"There's a lot it and it looks fresh." Renamon said, breaking from the group's gathering and following the pooling trails, certain that the blood pools and Guilmon would be linked in one way or another.
"Everyone be on your guard. Whatever monster owns this blood is no doubt a strong opponent." Cyberdramon said, taking leadership and continuing to show his more rational side.
Confused and concerned, Biyomon looked toward the other blood pools and asked. "You think another monster turned and did this to others?"
"It looks that way, but it's almost as if it did this as a means to cover up its track with the blood" Lopmon replied, thinking strategically, which left MarineAngemon to hide behind her, fearful to the cunning their foes could possess.
"If there's only tracks in this area..." Terriermon began to say, scanning the area. "And it didn't have much time to cover them up..."
"Then that means..." Biyomon let out
"It's a trap." A sinister and femimine voice spoke up, the alert of another presence outside their group left the Digimon all turning, looking to see a LadyDevimon clad in red then step from the shadows, expressing a sinister smile on her face as she rubbed the head of a monstrous dove upon her shoulder.
"A LadyDevimon!?" Impmon let out, taken aback by the sight of seeing a Digimon seemingly working alongside the viscous beasts.
"So you lot are the Digimon Tamers' Digimon, am I right? Have you ever considered about changing sides?" The LadyDevimon questioned, her dark grin never leaving her face as she examined the Digimon amongst her.
Confused, Lopmon asked. "Change sides? What are you saying?"
Keeping her grin as she looked upon Lopmon, the LadyDevimon stretched her right hand out, offering. "I am asking you to join us."
"Never!" Renamon let out in anger, keeping her fans drawn and her body in a more defensive stance as she glared at the red leather clad Digimon, the aggression and rebelliousness shared by the other Digimon.
"What a shame, but it never hurts to ask." The evil Digimon let out with a small and disappointed sigh, before introducing herself. "I am BloodLadyDevimon. And it seems two of you have already said yes to the offer."
Puzzled by the LadyDevimon's words, but thinking it was just a head game, Terriermon snapped back. "There's no way that can be true. You cannot fool us!"
Through Terriermon's outburst, though the Digimon remained by his side, BlackGabumon kept silent the entire time.
"I wouldn't be so sure." BloodLadyDevimon said, expressing a continued slyness in her wicked tone. "I think anyone would agree that I have given you plenty of chances to cooperate. The monsters can have you lot now."
Finished with what she needed to say, Biyomon and Lopmon both cried out as the pair were struck down by an invisible force.
"Lopmon! Biyomon!" Terriermon called out in concern, rushing alongside Impmon as the pair checked upon the female Digimon.
From her position, Renamon could feel the darkness growing stronger around her, finding that despite her senses helping her locate some of the hidden foes, the darkness continued to cloud her mind, leaving Renamon unable to pinpoint the exact location of her enemies, or the number against them.
"Sightsee!" The vixen then let out, concentrating her magic to cast a spell and allowing her friends to see what she saw, alarming Terriermon and the others to see dozens of monsters, including a multi-headed snake, a dark unicorn, a giant turtle and many more creatures had joined the battle.
"Monsters!" Terriermon called out in shock, the stunned state shared by Guardromon, who added. "So many of them, and so powerful!"
"Impmon, contact Rika and the others for help!" Renamon called as she kept her twin fan blades out, looking more than ready to fight. "We'll hold them off!"
"Alright. Just buy me some time and don't take too long, Foxface!" Impmon replied as he picked up his communicator and quickly sought out help.
-Back at the present-
"Here we go!" Guilmon called as he finished carving through the ground, forming circle around Takato and the others. "May sure to land on your feet!"
Just as the floor around his feet, and around the Tamers cracked open, the section of floor splitting out and sending all plummeting into the darkness below. The other tamers scream but BlackGatomon, Takato and Guilmon just remained confident.

Having defeated just a few of of BloodLadyDevimon's forces, Renamon, Biyomon, Cyberdramon and Impmon were the only ones still standing, all panting and trying to keep their composure through their fight.
However, looking behind them, looking to see the wounded Terriermon holding Lopmon, Guardromon clenching the damages to his body, Renamon and the others looked on.
Despite MarineAngemon doing all he could to tend to their wounds, the Digimon found this to be a losing battle.
With three Digimon down, one all but incapable to measure up to her power, and seeing Renamon and her friends starting to shake, BloodLadyDevimon smirked, believing the battle would soon be hers'.
"We have them right where we want them. Now finish them off!" BloodLadyDevimon commanded, her voice causing the various selection of beasts to lunge forward.
But pushing through the pain and strain of her body, Biyomon focused her power, casting a barrier of light around herself and her friends as to protect everyone.
But even with the barrier up, Biyomon fell to her knees, both exhausted and feeling that with each attack delivered to her barrier, the further her power weakened.
"Biyomon!" Renamon let out with concern, rushing to her side as to check upon the avian Digimon.
"Renamon... you must run while you can... It isn't safe here... It isn't safe anyway..." Impmon groaned, clutching his arm as he tried to rise a gun up, but found his body was also giving out to all the damage his body withstanded.
"I'd rather die fighting rather than run away!" Renamon said back as she tried to rise from beside Biyomon's side, but found herself collapsing to her hands and knees, too exhausted to fight.
As the Digimon fell one after the other, Biyomon finally lost her own composure, collapsing as the monsters broke the barrier, leaving her, Renamon and the others at the mercy of BloodLadyDevimon.
Certain it was over, Renamon shielded her eyes and waited for the blow, sighing as she thought solemnly. 'I am sorry, Guilmon. I failed you.'
Before the monsters could strike Renamon or the other Digimon down, a rumbling was heard from high above, this causing all to look up, before seeing a mass of rubble plummet down and land atop of the monsters, surprising the Digimon and BloodLadyDevimon, namely to the sight of one of the monsters with it head and jaw pierced by a burning sword.
Confused as he looked toward the debris, Terriermon, keeping a close and continued hold on Lopmon, then questioned. "What the hell just happened?"
Suddenly from the dust, a silhouette of a somewhat familiar leapt down and landed on the handle of the sword, before using their tail to yank the blade up in the air, catching it in his right hand, where the unknown swordsman landed before the dead monster in front of Renamon and the others.
"Nice to see you guys are getting along." The sword wielded commented, sounding familiar to the Digimon.
And as the dust settled, it revealed a familiar red dino Digimon with bat-like ears, who was wearing a red overcoat and wielding two swords, allowing all to take in his figure, wth Renamon astonished the most, her eyes widening at the familiar Digimon standing just a few feet from her, making her slowly rose to her feet.
Alongside the familiar appearance of the blade wielding Digimon, a brown haired male followed suit and landed by his side, revealing the set of revolvers in his possession.
No mistaking him as well, Renamon suddenly called out, astonished. "It's Guilmon! And Takato!"
"Wait, what? You cannot be serious!" Impmon let out with a matching shock before Impmon added with confusion and some anger. "This is... insane! I cannot believe you are just standing there, Pineapple Head! I mean what the hell is going on?"
"Just calm down." Takato merely said, looking upon the stunned form of Impmon, where he remarked. "And I thought you were the calm and collected one."
With Takato and Guilmon's arrival, the other Tamers soon revealed themselves, with Rika, Alice and BlackGatomon all appearing by Takato and Guilmon's side.
"Jasmine!" Biyomon let out happily, relieved as her Tamer rush to her side and checking upon her injuries.
"Terriermon!" Henry followed up, expressing his own concern as he looked upon the more damaged of Digimon and asked. "Everyone, are you alright?"
"Henry, guys. You came. Thank goodness. But where...?" Terriermon began to question, asking as to how they managed to find them, but found the remaining swarm of monsters circling around them.
"Rika, you're on guard duty. Make sure you protect Renamon and the others." Takato ordered, this causing Rika to smirk a little, liking the take charge command of the brunette, who said in reply. "You can count on me, Gogglehead."
With Rika following his commands, Guilmon took charge himself.
"BlackGatomon, you and Alice take care of the weaklings." The Digital Hazard Digimon told the duo, which Alice agreed to, while BlackGatomon purred a little, circled around Guilmon and said with a feisty smile. "No problem, handsome."
Though not liking the way BlackGatomon acted toward Guilmon, Renamon refocused herself upon hearing Guilmon call for her.
"We've got this." Guilmon said before adding "Just stay tight."
"Pretty bold of you to spilt your party without knowing what exactly you're up against." BloodLadyDevimon said cruelly, trying to keep up her dark ways of intimidation, but found Takato and Guilmon unaffected by her arrogance.
"If you don't feel like dying, you're free to leave." Takato answered back, swinging the revolver around his fingers for the time being as he told the demonic Digimon. "I am giving you a chance to run away before Guilmon and I remove your ugly mug."
"How dare you!" BloodLadyDevimon snapped. "I'll make you regret those poorly chosen words when both of you will die by my hands!"
"If you want to be our enemy, than I am going to withdraw my offer." Takato said back, this left Guilmon grinning, who then rose one of his blades and stabbed an invisible monster in the head, not even needing Renamon's Sightsee spell to detect the beast.
"Ok, I'll bite. What's the hell with this half assed magic of yours?" Guilmon asked as he draw the monster out from hiding, revealing the deceased creature impaled upon his blade. "It's a neat party trick."
However, though Guilmon had toppled another foe, the Digimon were stunned to what they had witnessed.
"N... no way..." Guardromon let out, astonished that Guilmon managed to fall a foe in such a brief period of time.
"He knew the monster was there and stabbed through its head with ease and precision." Jasmine added, matching the stunned expression of many of the Digimon Tamers.
"My turn." Takato then said, taking out his revolvers and releasing a series of precise shots, each striking target after target, felling more monsters and leaving them dropping dead from the accurate gunfire, even crossing his arms over over his shoulders and firing off several more shots, each earning a headshot kill.
Keeping up with his Tamer, Guilmon then held his set of swords, leaping up and delivering a swift set of blows upon each of the monsters that stood in his way, with each slash slashing and cutting up more monsters, sending more to their deaths.
"How could you two know where my servants hide?" BloodLadyDevimon let out in shock.
She sent some cat monsters out to strike only for Takato to shoot more dead destroying them, while Guilmon chopped up some wolf monsters with his swords.
Guilmon even slammed one wolf monster on the head with his foot, crushing its skull, before Takato shot apart the snake-like monster with his guns.
Though many were in awe to the fighting skill Takato and Guilmon expressed, Rika and Renamon were star struck at what they saw, both finding themselves the most amazed to the skills the Tamer and his partner expressed.
Tearing their way through, Takato and Guilmon showed no mercy as they charged through the horde of monsters, leaving an opening for a handful to sneak past and to sneak their was over to Alice.
Finding herself cornered by a snake creature, Alice felt beads of sweat dripping down her face, her fear growing as she thought she was about to wind up on the inside of the serpent.
However, showing she had her back, being a true partner to her, BlackGatomon withdrew her hammer, smashing it atop the snake's head and crushing it beneath her, instantly killing it.
"Thanks, BlackGatomon..." Alice said in gratitude, a little shaken, but remained grateful for the feline's protection.
"You're lucky that thing was weaker than the others." BlackGatomon remarked, pulling up her hammer and wiping off the oozing blood, looking over at the red dino Digimon, smiling as she added dreamily. "Takaro and that hunk, Guilmon, are taking care of all the strong ones."
A couple of ogre-like creatures then dropped from the rooftops, surrounding Takato, but despite their intense size and mass of numbers, the marked gun slinger swung his body around, using the momentum of each shot to push himself further and to deliver blow after blow, leaving the horder all dead and spread along the ground.
With Guilmon, the Digital Hazard Digimon kept up his speed and swordsman skills, where he leapt into the air, cutting through a handful of menacing flying creatures, before finishing as he used his Pyro Sphere attack to engulf more wolf monsters within a growing blade, leaving the wolf monsters to burn to death and to impale the dark unicorn in its chest.
The turtle monster roared and fire a massive blast at Takato, who used a barrier to block the damage, before deflecting the beam towards BloodLadyDevimon, who narrowly avoided the attack.
"They can't be this strong!" BloodLadyDevimon let out with shock.
Ignoring her small doubts and growing fears toward Takato and Guilmon, BloodLadyDevimon decided to both repair her injuries and to reinforce her dark creatures with the mystical powers via the bird upon her shoulder.
However, looking to the bird beast, BloodLadyDevimon's widened, astonished to see that like those that had faced their latest foes, it too had been defeated, looking as though the redirected blast was the cause to its demise leaving only behind it single wing.
"When did he...? He targeted the healer without her noticing..." Jasmine let out, both stunned and impressed, feelings she and Biyomon shared as both remained back and watched the battle continue to play itself out.
The turtle rose and tried to attack Takato again, only for Guilmon to slice his head clean off with his swords.
"You know it seems to me that you're the one who didn't know who they are up against." Guilmon said coldly to BloodLadyDevimon who snarled.
"Who are those two?" Cyberdramon questioned Ryo, who whispered back "You won't believe this... but it's Takato and Guilmon."
"W...what?!" Terriermon bellowed in clear shock as all the Digimon gazed at their Tamers, where Impmon then let out with his own bewilderment. "But that's impossible! How'd Pineapplehead get so powerful?"
"I know it's hard to believe but that's the same Takato and Guilmon who fell off that bridge on that day." Mako said, knowing that incident was what lead to the changes in the behavior of their friends.
"But there's no way." Lopmon protested, still unable to process Takato and Guilmon showing such relentlessness.
"It's hard to believe." Guardromon added, he too sharing the feelings of Lopmon and the other Digimon.
"I know it dosen't make sense, but it dosen't change facts." Jeri said in spoke up, both seeing Takato and Guilmon as strong protectors, while certain that deep within were the same sweet and endearing Takato and Guilmon she grew so close to.
BlackGabumon couldn't believe his ears as he then turned to see Kuja's frustrated face as BlackGabumon then shouted out. "It's not them! Quit making such lies! Guilmon and Takato are dead! We all saw it happen!"
"We checked his stats and it's no mistaking it. It's them." Ai merely said in reply.
"Then there's only one explanation! They forged the stats and they're plotting against us! We cannot trust those two!" BlackGabumon blurted out.
"You two are so loud and annoying, so either show some support or zip it" BlackGatomon spoke up, bringing out her claws, to which BlackGabumon turned to the dark furred feline remain with her dark expression. "Besides, you and your Tamer aren't planning to get in their way again, aren't you?"
Kuja and BlackGabumon froze in fear at this.
"Wait a second. You don't think…?" Alice questioned as she had a feeling, believing BlackGatomon perceived them as those who had betrayed Takato and Guilmon.
"Here they come!" Jasmine cut in, alerting the group to a set of monstrous horseman coming their way.
"Dark Vortex!" BlackGatomon announced, casting a dark sphere, which sucked the horseman in, sealing them away as the dark energies of the sphere vanished, bringing a continued smile to Alice's face, her faith within her new partner only growing with their bond.
Refusing to give up and to show their strength, Rika and Renamon fought as one, each heading for another dark snake creature, with Renamon using her grace and speed to keep the beast distracted and allowing Rika to use her staff, stabbing it through the throat and instantly killing it.
"Fine work, Rika." Renamon said, her tone of clear respect, which caused Rika to give a brief smile.
"Save the praise for after we wipe the floor with BloodLadyDevimon." Rika said back, about to charge toward BloodLadyDevimon and show off her strength, but stopped as Takato shouted out "Rika, stay back! Keep Renamon safe. Guilmon and I will handle this demonic witch on our own!"
"Just what the hell are you two?!" BloodLadyDevimon questioned with some fear upon seeing the last of the monstrous beasts slain, watching Takato and Guilmon approaching her.
Guilmon, after setting the Hazard blade back into his main sword, then asked. "What? Is that all you've got?"
"Then it's all over for me now. My high skilled magic is nothing compared to yours." BloodLadyDevimon confessed with a growing fear. "You two are some kind of monsters. No way you could be Tamer and Digimon."
Takato stepped forward and held up his gun.
"Right then. I am not really interested in the sentimentally of last words so how about this? You tell me how a Digimon like yourself got a hold of all these monsters, Then you can tell me what you're doing down here. Those can be your last words." Takato told BloodLadyDevimon.
"Give me one good reason why I should tell you?" BloodLadyDevimon snarled, refusing to reveal any information before her demise, but found herself screaming in pain when she was shot in the legs.
As BloodLadyDevimon tried to rise, stumbling on her blown out kneecaps, she found Guilmon's sword being pressed to her neck, thus shocking the Tamers and the Digimon at what they were seeing.
"Let me tell you what I think. I am guessing those monsters were created by some form of ancient magic, possibly by that man and that fallen Sovereign. And there's only one way to help you use that ancient kind of magic as far as I am aware so you villains could enter the labyrinths to get your hands on the crystals." Guilmon let out.
"Correct, and it look like we're right on the money, Guilmon." Takato said back, seeing the evil Digimon gasp fearfully. "But tell us. Do you really think you are strong enough to make to the end of hell?"
"It started to make sense. If you two are anything like them, then you are monsters in appearance of human and Digimon!" BloodLadyDevimon cried out.
"Anything like them, huh? So the monsters given to you was the person who actually given you the dirty work. Your boss, and the man and fallen Sovereign behind this whole mess. Well that answers all our question." Takato then said.
"If you're done, then shut the hell up and end this already!" BloodLadyDevimon demand furiously, finding Guilmon place the blade closer to her neck and say in reply. "Thought you'd never ask."
Knowing her fate was sealed, but giving a final dark grin, BloodLadyDevimon then said. "One more thing before I die. My lord will hunt you down and kill you for what you have done today."
"Demon, villain, gods. We don't really care. We'll kill anyone who comes after us. But hey, if your lord just a puppet like you are, they won't be able to touch us." Takato replied.
"Wait! Don't do it!" Henry called out, a growing concern filling him at the sight of Takato and Guilmon ready to end BloodLadyDevimon's life. "It's over! She cannot fight us anymore! You don't have to kill..."
SLICE!
All the other Tamers and Digimon watched in shock as Guilmon cut the evil Digimon's head off with a single stroke, to the point Kuja and BlackGabumon fell down in shock and fear, unable to stomach what they had just seen.
"Guilmon, why?!" Terriermon questioned as Guilmon clean off his sword and set it back upon his back.
'Takato and Guilmon actually made the right choice.' Rika thought, crossing her arms as she stared upon the brunette. 'Who knows what would happen if they let her live, not after what she did to Renamon and the others. It's as they said, the weak dies and the strongest survive.'
Though Impmon had taken down his share of opponents, causing plenty of chaos during his rebellious days, Impmon questioned with a combination of fear and impressed state. "Guilmon, what in the world happened to you? You changed, so did your Takato, but how did you survive that fall?"
"I'm not going to bore you with the story." Guilmon said bluntly.
"For now, we should get out of here." Takato cut in, setting his revolvers back in the holsters, looking through the area as he added. "This labyrinth is already crystal free and we wasted so much time."
"Crystal?" Lopmon asked, this leaving Suzie to say. "We'll get the inform when we get back."
"You idiot!" All heard Renamon call, the outburst causing all to look over, seeing Renamon storming over to Guilmon.
"Don't you know how worried sick we are about you?! You really scared me. I thought we lost you!" The foxy Digimon yelled, looking ready to hit him at any second, despite seeing what Guilmon had done to BloodLadyDevimon.
Guilmon looked back to Renamon, to argue back, but fell silent as he saw something he never expected of a strong fighter such as Renamon, seeing Renamon was actually shedding tears.
"I am so sorry... I couldn't protect you before... I was so scared about you..." Renamon let out, sinking to her knees and continuing to pour out her emotions and not caring how he would react
All that mattered to Renamon in that moment was being closer to Guilmon.
"It seems I had you pretty worried? I am just... glad I didn't die back then." Guilmon said, trying to assure Renamon, where he acted on his gut slid his hand on Renamon's face and told her. "And now and there's no need to apologise... or to cry. Oh come on. Don't cry ok?"
"I've just missed you so much..." Renamon sobbed as she hugged Guilmon without warning, sobbing into his chest.
A little unsure how to react to Renamon's emotional turmoil, Guilmon felt the awkwardness continue to grow between him and Renamon.
Looking around, as if asking Takato and the others for some advice, Guilmon froze when he looked upon BlackGatomon, seeing the kinky expression the dark furred feline gave in response.
However, his face changed as he saw Rika's cross face.
"Hug her back right now, you ruthless dino boy!" Rika said through clenched teeth, knowing that though she wasn't the most open or emotionally supportive, it was clear that Renamon needed companionship and comfort.
Guilmon gulped a little and did as he was told, where he set his arms around Renamon, hugging her closer to his chest and allowing her to continue to tear up.
'Both of us now have clingy females to look after.' Takato thought with a grin, taking a moment as to look toward Rika and Alice, as he he added. 'You're screwed here, pal.'
"Hey, Takato?" Ryo cut in, grabbing the brunette's attention. "Once we're out of here, we need to have a serious talk."
"Makes no difference to me." Takato said back, before commenting simply. "Now let's go. Yamaki's waiting for us."
