Hello Again,
Sorry for the longer than usual wait. The first half of this chapter was kinda difficult to make and at some point, I just wanted to get it over with, so don't be surprised if it looks rushed. But aside from that, I like how the rest of this chapter turned out and I hope you all do too. As usual, here's my disclaimer:

And now, I present to you, THE LATEST CHAPTER!
Chapter 4:
The Apology
What's a good way to spend a weekday afternoon? For Steven, it was helping Connie by helping her study for school in the conservatory as he leaned against Lion's side.
"Ok, what is the atomic mass of Sodium?" Steven asked Connie as he read it off a flashcard.
"22.990" Connie answered quickly as Steven quickly moved on to the next one.
"What is the difference between a proton and an electron?"
"Protons have a positive charge while an Electron are negatively charged"
"Last one! What is Diffusion?"
"Diffusion is the spreading of something more widely"
"That's….. CORRECT!" Steven announced proudly.
"Honestly, I thought it meant separating or something like infusing from fusion." Steven added on as he was a bit surprised on what the actual meaning of that term was.
"Well, you're sort of right, on the separating part. It's like food coloring spreading itself once it's in water. Or hot chocolate mix in hot water." Connie explained to her boyfriend.
"That's a good way to picture it" Steven chuckled at how his girlfriend used hot coco as an example for him to understand it better.
"Thank goodness I'm not the one taking a chemistry quiz tomorrow. Otherwise, I'd fail it in a heartbeat." He said with a slight smile but defeated tone.
"Oh come on, I'm sure you would've done fine at something like that." Connie said in order to cheer him up.
"By the way, thanks again for helping me study for tomorrow. I know it's just a quiz, but every score counts." She thanked him as she took her books in her backpack as Steven handed her back her flashcards so she could do the same thing.
"Of course Connie. You always support and look out for me, it's only fair I do the same." Steven replied to her thanks. After he said that, they looked at each other and inched their faces closer for the soul objective to kiss. However, before they could make contact….
BEEP! BEEP!
That loud beeping came from the monitor. Steven went over there to turn off the beeping only to learn that he was getting a transmission from Homeworld. There were only a few people that ever contacted him on this monitor from there. Although he was reluctant to answer, Steven expected either him or them to reunite eventually now that he was back home AND he did promise himself that he would try to make amends with White. So he answered the call.
"STEVEN!"
That excitement could only belong to one Gem, Spinel. As her face was close to the screen on Homeworld, she quickly backed away from the screen so that Steven could see the Diamonds right behind her.
"Oh, Steven, it's great to see you!" Blue said happy to see Steven on the screen.
"We haven't seen you in a long time" Yellow mentioned.
"Yeah, it's great to see you guys too. I'm sorry I haven't talked to you guys much. I was busy trying to find myself" Steven explained to them since he assumed they'd be upset that he hasn't talked to them when he was away.
"There's no need to apologize Steven." Yellow told him.
"We completely understand. You needed to explore the Earth and better understand yourself as a human." Blue said
"And we needed to give you the time and space for you to do that." White added on.
"Oh, well, thanks for understanding" Steven said as he was surprised how well those four were handling this. He knew that they were adjusting to his space, he just thought they'd be a little more emotional after such a gap of non-communication.
"And how have you been doing Connie?" Blue asked as she shifted hers and the others attention to her. They wanted Steven to know that Connie was just as valuable to them since she means so much to him.
"I'm doing great! Thank you for asking." Connie told them. As she was chatting with Spinel and the Diamonds, Steven thought about the commitment he made earlier this week about wanting to overcome the mistakes towards the Diamonds that haunt him, more specifically, what happened between him and White. Since they were right there, he could ask if he could come over to Homeworld to see them or vice versa. The sooner he can ask them, the better. Before Steven could make a request to see them, White beat him to the punch.
"Steven, we were wondering if we could visit you. We were hoping to catch up with you face to face."
Well, that was easy
"Sure! I mean, today I'm helping Connie study, but I can see you guys tomorrow."
"Tomorrow it is then." Blue approved of Steven's pitch
"See ya then buddy!" Spinel exclaimed as she was excited for tomorrow before the transmission ended. After the call ended, Connie couldn't help but wonder if Steven was really ok with this. She knew that Steven can sometimes be uncomfortable with the Diamonds. Heck, she still remembers White pulling out his Gem. She knew that things got better as time went by, but knew that there were some things that were still difficult for Steven to face. She approached him and put her hand on his shoulder.
"Are you sure you'll be ok?" she said with concern.
"I don't really know. But I know the Gems will look out for me in case anything happens. Plus, I have the love of everyone on my mind, including yours" He added on as he embraced Connie.
The next day came and while Connie was at school, Steven and the Gems were outside on the porch waiting for the Diamonds to show up on their ship.
"Uhhhhhhh, when are they supposed to show up? I'm dying of boredom." Amethyst complained
"Oh come now, Gems can't die from that." Pearl said trying to correct Amethyst.
"She was being dramatic" Garnet hinted to Pearl.
"I knew that." Pearl responded with a slight blush on her face.
"They should be here any minute" Steven told everyone.
However, what none of them were expecting was to see a warp light descend into the observatory. Meaning that someone just warped there. Everyone was surprised to see that and looked at each other before they made their way into the Temple and up to the galaxy warp up into the observatory. They were surprised to see who was there, sitting in front of the warp.
"Spinel?"
"Hey Hey Hey Steven!" Spinel said happily as she sprung over to Steven and give him a big goofy kiss on his face. Steven responded by wiping his face of any Spinel spit and being grossed out because of it.
Why Spinel? Why?
"Dude, be thankful Connie didn't see that" Amethyst teased Steven as she nudged his shoulder.
"Yeah." Steven said in annoyance. After that he wondered why Spinel took an alternate route to get to Earth.
"Anyway Spinel, why did you arrive from the warp pad? I thought you were going to show up on the Diamond ship with the Diamonds."
"Well…. the ship was an option, but we decided to surprise you with using the warp!" Spinel happily said. However, the same couldn't be said for everyone else. They were surprised and worried. They knew that if the Diamonds, at their height, came to the temple through the warp pad, then they would damage the observatory as soon as the former matriarchs reach this warp pad.
"What?!" Pearl said nervously.
"Aw crud!" Amethyst said as she was prepared for the damage that would ensue. It was Steven's turn to be worried
"Spinel! Tell them not to use the-"
Before Steven could finish his sentence, he noticed the warp pad activating, meaning that someone was about to arrive on the same one Spinel just arrived on.
"warp pad" Steven finished defeated. However, when the warp light dimmed, the Gems were surprised at what they saw.
"Blue?! Yellow?! White?! Why are you….. shorter than before?" Steven asked, speechless as he saw his relatives still had the same forms as when he last saw them, but were just above Garnet's height instead of the size of giants.
"Remember Steven, my power can alter any Gem's physical form. That includes ourselves" Yellow answered and explained.
"Yellow's been practicing how big and small she can make a Gem" Spinel told everyone.
"Personally, I'm not to big a fan of being shorter than my normal height. I'm still not use to it." Yellow added on.
"Well I don't mind it too much. Especially if it means….." Blue was saying before she got off the warp pad and made her way towards the group, more specifically, Steven.
"Hugging you without the fear of crushing you" she said as she happily wrapped her arms around Steven. Although Steven was surprised and hesitant at first, he quickly warmed up to it and accepted it. As he did, Yellow made her way over and joined in on the embrace, followed by Spinel.
White was the last to join in and unlike the others, instead of embracing them all together around her arms, she just put her two hands on Steven's shoulder and side. Seeing as how she's still not used to actually giving hugs. Once she did that though, Spinel quickly stretched her arms out and wrapped the five of them up in the hug. Although Steven was enjoying the hug, he noticed White barely making contact with just her two hands. He could also tell that the smile on her face was slightly forced, meaning that there was something about this making her uncomfortable.
Although the Gems wished to be a part of the hug too, they knew that it would be best for Steven to enjoy the hug with the Diamonds, since technically, they are his closest Gem relatives. His family. His mother's fellow Diamonds.
When Spinel decided to unwrap herself, the Diamonds followed suit. Now that the Diamonds were a smaller size, they could actually explore the insides of buildings on Earth. They wanted to see the insides of Stevens house. Steven and the others obliged and gave them a tour.
After Steven and the Gems gave the Diamonds a tour of the house, excluding the Gem's personal rooms within the temple, everyone settled down in the living area. Steven told the Diamonds about his travels, the same things he told the Gems as soon as he came back. Although Steven admitted that it wasn't the easiest journey, he still enjoyed his time on the road.
The Diamonds remembered back when Steven first told them that he'd be leaving his hometown, they were nervous wrecks because they were worried for his safety. However, they let him go and do it, since they were more afraid of holding him back, like they did to his mother, Pink.
The conversation shifted to how things were going on Homeworld. Yellow took time to help Gems with their physical forms in any way they wanted. Blue used her clouds to make stressed out Gems relaxed and happy. White continued on letting Gems better understand themselves by having them talk to themselves through her. Steven though, wondered what's going on with the planet government wise. When he asked, Yellow was quick to answer.
"Homeworld has been doing a lot better since Zircon was elected Chief Manager."
"First of all, is it a Zircon I know? Secondly, what does the Chief Manager do"
"Yes. It's the Zircon that defended you during the trial" Blue answered Steven's first question. After she did, she was embarrassed when she realized that was when she and Yellow put him on trial to begin with. Yellow quickly gave an explanation about the new title to change the subject.
"The Chief Manager is in charge of making sure Gems are satisfied with their lives and jobs on Homeworld and settle anything regarding the law. Honestly, I don't know where Homeworld would be now if you didn't introduce us to democracy." Yellow praised Steven for his deed in the earlier years. When she said that though, she looked over to White who just looked to the side awkwardly. If Homeworld was still under White's rule, would it crack even more than the planet itself already was. Would it be lead to ruin? Yellow and Blue needed a distraction to break White out of that funk.
They both realized that their former servants, now friends were still on Earth, the Pearls. Since they were already here on Earth, why not see how they're doing.
"Would it be any trouble if we went to see how our Pearl-" Yellow was about to say before she realized what she said before correcting herself.
"I mean, how our FRIENDS, The Pearls are doing?"
"I don't think it'll be any trouble at all. Those two have been wanting to see you both for a while now" Pearl told them.
"In that case, I'll come along too. I'd like to see how Pearl is doing with her drawings."
"Actually, you two should know that those two have nicknames for themselves" Pearl told the Diamonds.
"Really?" Blue said
"They do?" Yellow said just as surprised as Blue.
"Yes. Blue, your Pearl insists on being called "Dove" now. And Yellow, yours goes by "Zinnia". Pearl explained.
"Dove and Zinnia huh? I'm curious as to what led them to choose nicknames like that? Not that I'm judging them" Yellow wondered out loud and covered for herself, not trying to sound judgmental.
"We should go to Little Homeworld and carch up with them." Blue suggested.
"Good idea Blue. Spinel do you want to come along?" Yellow asked the silly Gem.
"Hehehe, yes please" Spinel happily said as she was excited to go with them.
"I'll lead you all there." Pearl said, offering to be their guide.
"White, are you coming too?" Blue asked the oldest Diamond. However, before White could respond, Steven interjected.
"Actually White, can we talk? Just you and me?"
"Oh. Of course Steven." White accepted Steven's favor.
"You three go along without me. Just be sure to tell me everything about it." White told the other Diamonds and Spinel.
"Sure White. It shouldn't take too long. We'll be back" Yellow said. Inside though, she was worried about White being alone with Steven and she could tell Blue was thinking the same thing by seeing the same face of slight worry on her face. Garnet and Amethyst would be there too, but they both knew that Steven would insist on letting him and White talk alone.
After Pearl led her group away from the temple and towards Little Homeworld, Steven led White outside on the porch so they could have a talk they were both sort of dreading. Amethyst wanted to join them outside to make sure Steven would be ok, but Garnet stopped her before she could.
"Is he gonna be ok" Amethyst asked the fusion. Garnet put her hand on the side of her visor, meaning she was using her future vision.
"It won't be easy for either of them" Garnet said with a blank face. Amethyst was worried when she said that, but that feeling was halted when Garnet continued to speak.
"BUT, they will make progress" The leader said with a slight smile.
As Steven led White outside, he sat on a cushioned bench just outside the front door and White followed suit sitting right next to him. As they were sitting there, there was nothing but awkward silence between them. They both wondered who should start the conversation and how. Steven decided to go first, and decided to get straight to the point.
"White, I just want to get this off my chest because I never did when I got better."
"Your….. shirt?" White asked taking what he said literally.
"What?! No!" Steven said as his skin was beginning to shine Pink just before he was about to go through what happened on that day in a slow panicking tone.
"I mean when I was losing control of my Diamond powers and I went over to Homeworld to get advice from you guys about how to control them. When I met up with you, and you let me control you, I wanted to slam your head through a pillar. After I did, I never apologized for doing that. Not even after you and everyone else calmed me down after I became a monster! Or when I was travelling! I could have apologized anytime but I never did and-" There was a tense silence between them as Steven was doing some slight heavy breathing before he calmed down once he felt White's hand on his shoulder, calming him down and his pink light fading away.
"Steven, I'll admit it. What happened that day on Homeworld scared me." She honestly told Steven as he looked at the floor with shame. She continued to explain her feelings to him.
"It was like there was another side of you that was completely different from the Steven that convinced me to change the ways of Homeworld and the Diamond Authority. When the connection was severed, I felt scared because I didn't know if that was you or someone else that controlled me."
"No, it was me." Steven said with remorse
"But I know what you mean when you said a different side of me. When I realized I was controlling you, it's like something else took over me too. I was you, but smaller. But, there was another me, only this one was big and he was mad. The big me was controlling the other me's movements. Like a puppet. The small me kept saying "Stop" or "I don't want to do this", but the other me just said "Too bad" and kept making me move until my head would slam against the pillar. After that, you were you again, and I was me, but, I wasn't exactly sure who I was."
After another tense silence, they both looked out at the ocean, taking in the view before Steven continued on.
"After that, I just forced myself into thinking what I did to you never happen and denied everything else that happened too. And well, the rest is history." He sighed, sort of relieved that he got that off his chest.
"Steven, thank you for telling me all of that. You mentioned that you were scared to talk to us because you were ashamed to face me after what happened?" Steven only nodded at her question.
"Well that's ironic, because these past few years, I was nervous to talk to you. Not because of what happened, but because what might happen if you ever saw me. I kept thinking that I would trigger something in you if you ever saw me. I don't blame you if you would though. After everything the Diamonds and I put you and your friends through.
"I'm the last person in the universe you should hear this from, but we can't be held back by our past mistakes. I was nervous about leaving my head after staying in it for thousands of years. But you and everyone else went outside of it with me. Steven, I want to do the same thing for you now. No matter what it is that troubles you, I want you know that Blue, Yellow, Spinel and I will be there for you. Just like how your friends and family here on Earth are."
When White finished her statement and put a hand on Steven's shoulder, he felt relieved. Like a huge weight was lifted off of him. He told White his feelings and burden that have haunted him during his time away. She responded honestly with her feelings AND assured him that he can talk to her and the Diamonds too if he's ever troubled. His support network might be the same number of people as it was before he left, but the bond between him and them is stronger than ever.
When he realized that he broke out of his guilt and quickly embraced White in a hug. Although she was surprised by the sudden act, she gladly accepted it by wrapping her arms around him too.
"White, I'm sorry."
"I'm sorry too Steven."
"Thank You"
An hour later, Pearl, Spinel, Yellow and Blue returned from their trip to Little Homeworld. When they arrived to the temple, they noticed White and Steven sitting out on the porch waiting for them, with Garnet & Amethyst inside the house.
"Hello Everyone! Yellow, Blue did you two see the Pearls?" White asked her fellow Diamonds.
"Yes and they're doing well on their own. Dove is creating the most spectacular works of art." Blue told White.
"Indeed, and Pe- I mean, Zinnia, was being quite the unique figure around the area posing for Gems partaking in photography." Yellow said admiring her former servant's ability to model.
"I joined her in modeling, and Dove even drew us together" Spinel interrupted as she brought out a rolled up sheet of paper and rolled it out to show a drawing of her and Zinnia together in poses.
"That's beautiful. I'm glad you all had fun." White told her friends
"What about you White? How were you and Steven doing while we were gone?" Blue asked curiously. She and Yellow both knew that White was anxious being left alone with Steven. However, they knew that talking things out face to face would be the best way for her and Steven to overcome their troubles.
"We were fine. Steven and I enjoyed our time together" White said with a smile on her face, after her anxiety with Steven was finally lifted. Steven smiled to show Blue and Yellow that what White said is true.
"Good to hear" Yellow said.
They went back up the stairs and went back inside the house where they talked again inside Steven's room. After telling the events of what happened in their day, Yellow realized that they should be making their way back to Homeworld.
"Alright, I think it's about time we head on back to Homeworld. I have a busy day tomorrow. I have to go to one of the colonized planets and change a few hundred forms from Gems that requested me."
"Yes, and I have to prepare for another escapade tomorrow." White added on.
"Well, I'm glad you guys came over. It was great catching up with you." Steven said as he hugged them. Before they made their way upstairs, Blue suddenly made Steven an offer.
"Actually Steven, I know we just spent time with you, but I have no appointments tomorrow and since White and Yellow will be busy, I was wondering if you and any of your friends would like to spend a day with Spinel and I at the Zooship tomorrow?"
Surprised by her proposal, Steven wondered if he should. On one hand, he can see the Zoomans, the other Amethysts and even the Rose Quartzes too, despite them resembling his deceased mom's alter ego. Plus, tomorrow is Saturday. So maybe he could bring Connie along since she wouldn't have school. He knows Amethyst would love to spend time with the "Famethyst" and the others probably would want to relax too. So why not?
"Sure. Would any of you guys want to come with?" He said as he turned his head towards the Gems.
"Heck yeah! I haven't seen the Famethyst in a while." Amethyst was quick to answer.
"I wouldn't mind going" Pearl said with a smile.
As for Garnet, she just gave a simple thumbs up with a smile on her face, meaning she's good to go too.
"Great! Hey Blue, would it be ok if I asked Connie to come along too?" Steven asked.
"Of course! I don't see why not" Blue said simply, knowing beforehand that Steven would ask right away.
"Great! I'll call her to see if she's available."
"Sounds great Steven! I'll come over on my ship to pick you all up and we'll make our way over. I'll also call Holly Blue have her tell everyone we'll be coming." Blue said, already planning ahead of time.
"Great! I'll see you tomorrow then Blue! You too Spinel." Steven told them.
"Can't wait" Spinel said as she and the Diamonds made their way to the observatory about to use the warp pad.
"Thanks again for everything Steven. Have fun tomorrow." White said before she left.
"I will. Thanks White" He said, thankful that he got to patch things up with White.
After Steven and the Gems waved goodbye, Steven pulled out his phone to call Connie.
"Hey Connie!"
"Steven! How was seeing the Diamonds today?" Connie asked over the phone.
"At first, kinda awkward. But later on, it got better." He responded
"Good! I'm glad it went ok for you."
"Me too Connie. Me too." He said as he stared outside his balcony.
"So how did you do on the quiz?"
"It went great. 100%!" Connie said proudly.
"That's great to hear! Great Job!"
"Thanks Steven"
"With that being said, what are you doing tomorrow?" He asked as he stared at the night sky.
At the Human Zoo, Holly Blue Agate received a call from Blue Diamond. Holly was so excited to hear from her glorious Diamond again, but she nearly fainted when Blue told her that she, Steven and his friends would be coming by the Zoo to visit and have a relaxing time. At first Holly was ecstatic at the news, but after Blue hung up, Holly realized that trying to get everything ready by tomorrow might be easier said than done. Especially when the other Gems and humans at the zoo were just doing their own things.
"IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR JUST A LITTLE BIT OF ORDER!?"
Holly couldn't vent her frustration loud enough to break the Amethyst's, Rose Quartz's and humans out of their relaxation and fun activities.
"Why do I even bother?" Holly sighed in defeat as she left the containment area and walked the hallways on her way to the ship's hangar. Once she passed the doorway leading there she sat on the top of the stairs with her head being held up by both her hands.
"It's not every star cycle that I get a call from Blue Diamond telling me that she'll be coming over tomorrow. All I ask is that everyone prepare themselves for the Diamonds arrival and be on their best behavior when she comes over. Wait, Steven and his group are joining too. I bet if I mention him or that short Amethyst to them they'd pay attention."
As Holly was complaining and talking to herself about wanting to get the Zooship ready for Blue and Steven's arrival, a tiny black circle was forming in midair in the middle of the hangar and was growing bigger, indicating that it was a portal. When Holly noticed it, she quickly jumped in surprise and noticed two young looking figures walking through it. One appeared to be male while the other was female. They both had silver colored skin with silver eyes to match and light green hair, with the length of the male's being shorter compared to the woman who's hair was longer. Both of them were the same height and wearing white long sleeve shirts and black pants.
Confused at what was going on, Holly Blue summoned her whip from the gem on the back of her head and attempted to compose herself.
"Who are you and what are you doing here? Entry on this ship without proper authorization is prohibited" Holly told them, trying to keep a brave face, even though she's confused as to why there's a black portal that appeared out of nowhere.
"Just one Gem on this ship? Damn, I thought this would be more interesting Sis." The male rubbed the back of his head as he complained to the girl, revealed as his sister.
"Relax Charlo. I doubt she's the only one on this ship. There's sure to be more Gems on here" The sister assured her brother, not even bothering to face Holly Blue.
"I don't know who you two are, but you are to leave this place right n-" Holly Blue was saying before she was interrupted by a new voice.
"Charlo. Charla." The voice said their names as the one who addressed them walked through the portal. He's revealed to be one of the four white cloaked people, but his tone of voice showed he was the one who sounded mature and older.
"This one is not worth your time. I chose you two to join me on this mission for a reason. Now carry on" He ordered his underlings. The two nodded their heads and proceeded to walk past Holly Blue, ignoring her presence.
"Wha- Wait! Stop this instant" Holly was about to use her whip them, but before she could, the white cloaked being grabbed her hand that was holding the whip, halting her about to use it.
Holly was surprised at how quick he was. However, she immediately felt fear overtake her form when she looked closer at the face hidden within the hood. Before she could gasp, the supposed leader punched Holly Blue in the stomach with enough force to knock the wind out of her, forcing her to drop to her knees and place a hand on the spot he punched her. Even though she was kneeling in pain, she still raised her head up to look at her assailant.
"Y-You're a… but I thought….." before Holly could attempt to say anything else, the man grabbed her face with a clawed, scaly dark-green hand and raised her off the ground.
"Of course you would think that. As you can see though, that's not the case. Myself, my underlings and other comrades are proof of that." As he said that, Holly Blue was struggling to escape the iron grip her face was trapped in, but thought about what he just said.
Other Comrades?!
As he stared at the eyes of the Gem in his grasp, it was revealed that within the hood was a yellow eye on the right side of his face with black vertical slit pupils.
"What you Gems attempted to do to us, we will do to you. However, unlike you all, WE will actually finish what we started."
Well, there you have it. Steven and co. will be joining Blue for fun at the Zoo. However, they aren't going to like what they see once they get there as the mysterious organization has officially made their move.
Now that this chapter is out of way, we're underway to getting to the parts i'm looking forward to writing. So buckle up!
Another thing to burn in your memory is that from this point forward, Blue and Yellow Pearl will be called "Dove" (Blue Pearl) and "Zinnia" (Yellow Pearl). I wanted to name them after a pretty bird (Dove) and a gorgeous flower (Zinnia). I was thinking about maybe changing Pink Pearl's nickname. What do you think?

Next time on Steven Universe: Beyond, Walking into Danger!
Within the depths of space, a blue spaceship, about the size of a Homeworld Roaming eye ship, is seen traversing through the dark depths.
Inside the ship are only two figures. One of them was female with the face of a lion, green fur, long cat-like tail and green, wavy medium length hair. She had on a purple coverall jumpsuit. She was busy controlling the ship as it traversed the galaxy. She looked over to the other figure, sitting on what appears to be a captain's chair. She asked that person a question of concern.
"Are you sure it's them?"
"There's no mistaking it. It may be faint, but it's definitely an aura filled with malice" The other said as he stared at his right hand. Like his associate, he too was wearing an overall jumpsuit, only this one was black. His head however was covered in shadows, so his facial appearance couldn't be identified.
"Maintain course Sol."
