Chapter 7:
Battle With A Giant
It's already bad enough that Steven and his friends and family had to deal with two beings that not only devastated the zoo ship, but also kidnap its inhabitants. However, it looks like it's not the end of it. Now there's a new figure standing in front of everyone with his head covered and apparently, he's the superior of the twins that viciously attacked them.
Everyone wondered what was under that hood. He's just as tall as Garnet and appears to have a strong build underneath, but those things alone aren't enough to intimidate everyone. What did however was the vibe he was giving off by just standing there. Just like the previous duo, they could feel immense strength coming from him. It's as if he's warning them that if they attack, then they will regret it.
"Who are you?" Garnet asked bravely. After a few seconds of silence, debating whether or not he should tell them or not, he decided to humor them.
"Because you all held your own against Charlo and Charla, I suppose the least I can do is tell you my name. I am Daviron."
Just like that, they now knew his name. Unfortunately, he decided to keep his face hidden. Everyone soon burned his name into their heads. Almost immediately, he added on to his earlier mention.
"Do know however that knowing my name won't make a difference." He said without a care.
"Oh Yeah? Why's that?" Amethyst asked in annoyance at his arrogant but noncaring remark.
"Because fighting me is pointless. Neither of you stand a chance against me. That's why soon, I'll send you all to the same place we sent the others." He declared. It sounded like they don't stand a chance against him. Judging by his tone, it sounded like it wouldn't be difficult for him.
"Uh, he's not serious is he?" Spinel said, doubting that he could really accomplish what he just declared.
"No way, how can just one of him beat all of us?" Amethyst said agreeing with Spinel.
Everyone else was mentally processed what the figure said. After all, it's just one of him against the seven of them. Two of which, are diamonds, the strongest types of gems in the entire gem race. Plus, thanks to Steven, everyone was now at full strength and recovered from their recent encounter with the terrible twins. And even though this guy seems strong, there's no way he can beat all of them alone. Right?
Blue and Steven however could just feel that he was serious AND he possibly had the power to actually back it up.
After everyone finished up their thoughts and readied themselves for combat, the figure known as Daviron began to walk forward towards them.
Acting on instinct, Steven brought forth his pink hexagonal wall in an attempt to keep Daviron from getting to them. Amethyst seemed bummed that Steven decided to "play it safe".
"Hey Steven, I know this guy seems tough, but don't you think we can take him head on?"
"Don't be so hasty Amethyst. If this person really is in charge of those other two, than he must be strong." Pearl told Amethyst.
"Yeah I know, but if those two couldn't break through Steven's wall, what makes you think this guy can?" Amethyst pointed out. However, she and everyone else noticed that not only was Daviron still walking towards them, he was picking up his speed to the point where he was actually running.
"Why's he running now?" Connie said with slight worry and confusion as she stood next to Steven.
Once he got within range, Daviron leaped up in the air and brought out his right arm out of his cloak and curled his clawed hand into a fist. Everyone noticed the features of his hand and arm, especially Blue. Steven however, noticed something else. He saw that as Daviron was in the air, his body appeared to be covered in some sort of steam like substance.
What is that?
Steven suddenly felt uneasy. It was like the power he felt coming off of the twins earlier, but more calm and focused instead of wild and all over the place. He then noticed that substance now making its way towards Davirons fist just before it makes contact with the pink wall.
Everyone was certain that he wouldn't break through and that he'd possibly hurt his hand. However, unlike the twins, he managed to produce a different result.
CRACK
Everyone on Steven's side of the barrier couldn't believe what they were seeing. His punch actually managed to crack Steven's wall! After a few more seconds, the crack began to spread throughout the rest of the wall to the point it actually broke.
"No Way!" Amethyst said, not believing her eyes.
"H- He actually managed to-" Pearl tried to say, but astonishment kept her from completing.
"Break through it!?" Connie said completing her mentor's sentence.
Just as Daviron landed back on the ground, he looked at his hand squeezed it, showing that it was ok and not at all broken. Everyone saw what he did, and were thinking the same thing.
He broke through it like it was no big deal?!
Deciding to take immediate action, Garnet, Pearl and Amethyst looked at each other, nodded and quickly charged towards him, hoping to catch him off guard the second he landed on the ground.
"Guys Wait!" Steven shouted worryingly and reached out with his arm as he saw his family charge towards this mystery guy.
Just as Daviron planted his feet on the ground, he knew they were coming and commended them on their bravery and speed, but he knew that what they were hoping to accomplish wouldn't come to pass. He decided to stand straight and not even move as they came closer.
Pearl took the lead and with her spear in hand, attempted to strike him. Once her spear made contact with the figure, not only did it not go through, but she felt the vibrations from her spear all the way towards her hands, resulting in a stinging feeling.
"Is he wearing armor?" Pearl thought out loud. However, she should have paid more attention to the enemy she was right next to as he grabbed her by the neck and lifted her up off the ground.
"PEARL!" Steven, Connie and Amethyst, who was still running towards Daviron, all exclaimed in worry for her safety.
Garnet soon leaped towards Daviron as he held on to Pearl. Garnet didn't want to risk hurting Pearl, but she figured that if she hit him on the side that wasn't holding Pearl, in just the right spot, he might drop her. That would give Garnet the chance to rescue Pearl.
"LET HER GO!" Garnet said with ferocity as she readied her gauntlet hand and aimed right for the side of his cloaked head.
She hit him right on the mark!
However…
He didn't budge!
He wasn't knocked back! He still kept his grip around Pearl's neck! Heck, he didn't even flinch! Garnet put everything she had into that punch, but it had no effect on him at all. He was still standing tall. In the same spot that he landed on.
"Are you done?" Daviron asked disappointingly as he turned his heads towards the surprised fusion.
Frustrated, Garnet readied her gauntlet covered fists and began a barrage of punches at him. Of course, she was careful to not hit Pearl.
Despite Garnet's strong barrage, Daviron still didn't budge. He was still standing tall. It was like she was punching a wall made of iron.
As everyone looked at the scene in front of them, they couldn't believe how sturdy this guy was. He took multiple attacks head on and he hardly moved. What kind of being is he?
After a few minutes of punches and Pearl trying to escape from his grasp, Daviron decided to end their struggle. Once Garnet stepped back to catch her breath, he threw Pearl at her with all of his strength. Garnet was able to catch her, but not without being pushed back a few feet. Still, she was still standing and unfortunately, so was he. Both Garnet and Pearl leaped backwards right next to Amethyst, who was currently processing what she just saw.
"This dude isn't even flinching! What the heck is he?" Amethyst asked her fellow Crystal Gems. Everyone wondered what exactly he was too. Everyone now knew that close combat wouldn't result in anything against him. So they had to come up with a different solution. Amethyst suddenly had an idea and immediately brought out two of her whips.
"Amethyst, what are you going to do?" Pearl said, worried that Amethyst is doing something reckless.
Amethyst launched her whips to wrap themselves around Daviron. Now, he was entangled. Everyone was curious as to what Amethyst's strategy was in doing this Daviron didn't even fight the grip they had on his cloaked body.
"Restraining him won't do us any good. Even if he stays there and we got up close, close combat won't do a thing against him." Pearl told Amethyst as she kept her eyes on the foe.
"Wasn't planning to hit him head on" Amethyst said with a grin. When she did, on her end of the whips, purple flame-like energy began to emerge. Soon, Pearl and Garnet saw where she was going with this.
"Let's see how he handles some of this!" Amethyst said out loud as she began her great whiplash with her whips, sending great waves of the violet energy, one on each whip, towards the trapped enemy.
In his mind, time was slow, and Daviron realized what the short purple gem was attempting.
I see. After witnessing your friends fail their earlier assault, you knew close combat wouldn't be effective.. So you're attempting long range instead while restraining my movements. Impressive thinking.
However…..
Daviron was lifting his arms within his restraints, but it was too late as Amethyst's purple whiplash soon made contact with him, resulting in an immense explosion.
BOOM!
Everyone witnessed the explosion at the same spot Daviron was standing and restrained in. All there was now was smoke. Amethyst was quick to celebrate.
"Aw Yeah!" Amethyst said proudly as she saw that her strategy worked.
"That was good thinking Amethyst! I'm sorry for doubting you." Pearl said as she hugged her.
Over with Steven, Connie, Spinel and Blue, Spinel was relieved and felt like she could breath again. However, the other three weren't so sure about celebrating just yet.
"Not bad"
Amethyst & Pearl widened their eyes and Garnet grit her teeth when they heard that familiar deep voice. As the smoke was clearing up, they saw a silhouette, with a rather familiar shape.
"Seriously?" Amethyst said, as she realized that her attempt didn't work either.
Once the smoke cleared, Daviron was still there and the length of the whip that had tied him up were now by his feet, apparently shredded into pieces. A small purple flame was on his left shoulder, but he easily put it out with his hand.
What everyone also saw was that the lower half of his cloak was burned off by Amethyst's energy. They saw that under that cloak, just like his underlings, he was wearing black pants and his feet were shown to be just as scaly and claw-like as his hands. They also noticed that just behind his legs was what looked like a long tail.
Everyone now had more clues as to who or what exactly Daviron was. However, the newly shown features, along with his display of durability, were enough for Blue to figure out what he was. She soon stepped forward and eyed the figure.
"You're… You're a Komodo aren't you?"
As soon as she said that, everyone looked at each other in confusion, wondering if they heard Blue correctly.
"Komodo?" Steven said in confusion as he and everyone else looked back at Daviron.
After a moment of silence, Daviron sighed as he knew that what he was, was now exposed thanks to Blue Diamond. He moved both of his clawed hands to each side of his hood.
"I suppose there's no point in hiding it anymore. Not that it won't make a difference anyway"
He soon pulled down his hood, revealing his face to his opponents.
His head had the appearance of a komodo dragon and just like his arms and feet, it too was covered in scales. However, one notable feature of his face was that although his right eye had a yellow iris and vertical slit pupil, his left eye was cloudy, meaning that it was blind.
"Wait, so…. this guy's some sort of lizard?" Amethyst asked out loud out of curiosity after seeing his true face.
"He looks just like a komodo dragon from Earth. I've learned about them before. I just never imagined there were beings like that in space before" Connie said as she was surprised to see an anthropomorphic komodo dragon right in front of them.
Blue decided to settle their confusion by explaining what Daviron is. He noticed everyone kept their eyes on him. So he knew he couldn't act rash and decided to let the diamond tell his story while he kept his eye on them.
"Komodo's were a race of organic beings that inhabited a planet well known for its humidity and harsh terrain. Some gems we sent over as scouts to observe the planet learned that the people there were called Komodos."
As Blue was explaining, the enemy decided to interrupt her.
"That wasn't all. That wasn't the reason you and the other diamonds sent scouts over to our planet. Their main objective wasn't to study us…. It was to see if the planet would be suitable." Daviron pointed out as he looked up at her with disgust in his one good eye.
After he said his part, everyone realized what must have happened to him and his planet as Steven looked back at Blue.
"Blue, please tell me you and the others didn't." Steven asked Blue, hoping that what he was thinking was wrong. Blue was hesitant to respond, fearing what Steven would think of her if she answered honestly. But nonetheless, she didn't want to lie to him and the others, so she gave her response.
"Steven. Everyone. It's true. Once we decided that the planet would become a new colony for the gem empire, we sent out soldiers to…" Blue was hesitant to finish. Turns out she didn't need to as everyone looked down as they could only piece together what those soldiers did to its inhabitants. However, Blue had a question or two of her own that she just couldn't figure out.
"But, from what I was told by the elite gems, your race was wiped out. Not only that, but if there were survivors, that attack was over at least 3,000 years ago!"
Once Blue asked, everyone was shocked and looked back at the Komodo. "3,000 years ago"? That means that Daviron was either one of two things. One, he could be a descendant of a survivor of the massacre. Or two, he could be an actual survivor himself. But if it's the latter, how is he standing in front of them? If he's an organic being, then he must have a life span. Gems have stayed alive for thousands of years, but that's because they're inorganic beings. How is an organic one capable of doing the same thing?
Before either of Blue's questions could be answered, Daviron suddenly vanished from everyone's sight.
"What! Where did he go?" Pearl said trying to see where he had vanished as Garnet did the same.
"Right here"
Daviron was suddenly right in front of both Garnet and Pearl as he punched them right in their stomachs, knocking them to the ground.
"GUYS!" Steven & Connie shouted with worry.
Garnet took note of how quick he was and not giving her and Pearl the chance to react defensively. Not only that, but how powerful his punches were.
So fast. So strong
Both Garnet and Pearl were down on the ground, holding their stomachs as Daviron made his way towards Amethyst. Unlike Garnet and Pearl, Amethyst was quick enough to summon up two new whips.
"Let's see how ya handle this!" Amethyst said as she ignited her whips with the same violet energy as earlier and rolling herself on top of them, resulting in her spin dash having a violet aura to it as she charged towards the incoming Daviron.
Instead of avoiding it, Daviron decided to keep charging forward. This lead to a collision that resulted in another explosion.
BOOM!
"Amethyst!" Steven shouted to his sister figure, hoping she was alright.
Once the smoke cleared, everyone saw that Amethyst was still spinning, but yet, she wasn't moving forward!
This is because Daviron was actually holding on to the gem with one arm on each side of her spinning form.
"Not enough" Daviron said plainly as he was waiting for Amethyst to tire herself out. Once she had run out of steam and broke out of her spin dash, Daviron grabbed her by her neck and lifted her up. She couldn't reach her gem with his hand just above it.
"Let… me….. go!" she said out of her struggling breath.
Once she said her piece, Daviron responded by turning to his side and slamming her down on the other side of him, resulting in a small crater in the ground.
"AMETHYST!" Steven cried out in fear, worrying if she was ok.
He and everyone else, including Garnet and Pearl, who were still in pain, felt relief when they saw that Amethyst was still whole and not inside her gem. However, she was wincing in pain with her eyes closed as she was on her back.
Steven didn't know how much more he could take and looked over to Connie, who was already looking at him with a mix of worry and determination.
Connie couldn't stand watching this as much as Steven did and wanted to do her piece. On the other hand though, this guy had incapacitated Garnet, Pearl and Amethyst with what looked like complete ease. It's like he wasn't even warmed up earlier. AND HE STILL ISN'T! However, she cares more about Steven and her friends more than she's scared of Daviron.
"Steven, we should fuse." Connie said to him.
Although he was uncertain if Stevonnie could turn things around against this guy, he knew that they had to do something other than just staying back. So he nodded in agreement and took Connie's hand.
Daviron witnessed the two humans become enveloped in a pink light before becoming a new being. He's seen gems fuse before, but never two humans. This had him intrigued as he now eyed the new fusion, Spinel and the towering Blue Diamond, who readied herself by summoning aura spheres next to her, ready to fire. Before she could though, Daviron decided to speak.
"You! Fusion! What are the names of the humans that became you?" He asked the human fusion.
"First of all, my name is Stevonnie, not "Fusion". Secondly, if you really want to know their names, you're gonna have to unfuse me first!" Stevonnie said in response, as if they were challenging him.
"That can be arranged." Daviron said in response. After that, he ran towards Stevonnie and the others. In doing so, Blue fired her projectiles towards him as he was running towards them. Daviron easily evaded her attacks and kept up his pace. Stevonnie noticed that he was actually evading instead of taking Blue's attack head on.
Just as the rain of Blue's aura stopped, he noticed two enlarged hands up above him, about to grasp him. He saw that those hands belonged to Spinel and didn't bother to do anything and just allow her to do as she plans. As soon as he did, he became trapped within the heart-shaped gems own grip.
"You may be able to take a couple punches, but you can't be trouble if we just keep you restrained." Spinel said to her captor as Stevonnie was right next to her encasing their fists in pink bubbles in case Daviron tried to pull something.
Stevonnie was right to think that.
"That kind of assumption is careless" Daviron said plainly while caught in between Spinel's hands. He soon breathed in calmly.
"Huh?" Spinel said confused. Suddenly, she felt multiple sharp objects pierce her hands.
"OW!" Spinel cried out in pain as she released Daviron from her grip.
"SPINEL!" Stevonnie and Blue cried out in response to their friends pain. The three of them turned back to Daviron and surprised at what they saw. The scales on his body had risen. To Stevonnie, Daviron reminded them of a porcupine with quills, or a pufferfish.
This meant that his scales were what hurt Spinel's hands. Although gems don't bleed, Stevonnie and Blue could see cuts on Spinels hands. It was then that Stevonnie, or rather Connie within Stevonnie, had realized something from when he was trapped by Amethyt's whip.
"So that's why Amethyst's whip was in pieces earlier. It wasn't because of her purple energy, your scales cut it up."
"Correct. You can see now that my skin can do more than withstand any physical attacks." Daviron explained as he also showed his razor sharp scales receding back down to his skin.
"So his own skin is like armor" Stevonnie concluded out loud.
"Looks like it, but I guess we can't hold on to him either" Spinel said still holding her open palms out to try and ease the pain from her recent cuts. As they all wondered what to do, Blue had an idea. Right away, she created a lot of clouds and blew them towards Daviron. Although he wasn't affected by the joy they bring, they were thick enough to keep him from seeing or hearing anything. Right after that, Blue picked up Stevonnie and Spinel in her hands.
"Blue what are you doing?" Stevonnie asked Blue, wanting to get back to stopping the strong komodo.
Although she would rather not put Stevonnie and Spinel through any more pain and danger, if they didn't take Daviron down, then he would just keep bringing it. While he was lost in Blue's clouds, they had to act fast. She brought Spinel and Stevonnie close to her face and quietly told them her plan.
"Spinel, Stevonnie, listen. I have an idea. But we need to do this right" Once Blue told them that, she could see it in their eyes that they were willing to do whatever Blue had. Once Blue saw that, she whispered them her plan.
Meanwhile, Daviron was within Blue's fog and decided to keep walking until he notices any sudden movements or shifts in the clouds. As he attempted to make his way out of it, he noticed a presence within the clouds.
Spinel showed herself and immediately began punching him constantly. However, just like the earlier attempts from Garnet and Pearl, it hardly had any effect at all.
"Don't you learn?" He said disappointingly.
It appears as though none of them do, because someone else was about to land another punch in an attempt to surprise him from his left side, Stevonnie. With their fist encased in a pink bubble, they aimed their punch at the talking reptile's head. He wasn't surprised though as he lifted his arm to protect his head from their punch just before it made contact with said part. Surprisingly for him though, it was strong enough to blow him back a couple feet. Sad that he was still standing and never fell down.
He was impressed that the fusion was able to actually knock him away. However, he noticed something that disturbed him slightly. The skin on his arm that he used to protect himself had a very slight crack on it. He looked back at the fusion that caused this.
They actually managed to crack my skin? How? There's no way my scales could have weakened from those earlier attacks. Only a being with a strong enough aura could be able to do this.
As he continued to eye the fusion, a thought came to his head.
Wait, the male human that makes up this fusion. The wall he used to trap Charlo and Charla, why I felt uneasy when I saw him glowing. Don't tell me. Is he…..
Before he could go into any more deeper thought, he soon found himself sandwiched between multiple pink hexagons. He assumed that they were the ones that caused this.
"Looks like I let my guard down" He said while trapped between the many hexagons.
"Looks like it." Stevonnie said in agreement as they stared him down while holding their arms out to keep the hexagons from breaking. As a precaution, Spinel wrapped her arms all around the hexagons to tighten his restraints even more. Of course, the komodo was going to show them that they'd have to try harder than that to keep him down.
They both noticed him calmly breathing in from his nose and soon enough, both Stevonnie and Spinel could feel him shaking within the pink shapes. They both noticed that there were multiple small cracks forming outside the shields. This could only mean that Daviron's scales were piercing the shields and it would only be a matter of seconds before he broke through the shields.
Spinel wanted to release her grip around him out of worry of getting pierced again, but she only knew that he'd break out faster. Stevonnie could feel themselves losing their grip with the shields.
"I- I can't hold him much longer" Stevonnie said, feeling their grip slipping. Once the cracks were big enough, Daviron lifted his arms in the air and was able to break free from the gems grip on him. With Spinel blown away by his freedom and landing next to Stevonnie, it seemed as though they were about to face the elite reptile's wrath. With his scales risen from his arms & legs while his arms celebrating they're freedom, he eyed towards the gems and was about to have his turn at giving them trouble. However…..
SLASH
In one swift motion, Daviron saw his arms up in the air, detached from his body and landing across from him on the ground.
How?!
He turned his head and was not only surprised at who was responsible, but also their size. Blue Diamond! She now appeared around the same height as Garnet and was holding two of what looked like her signature aura attacks, but in the shape of a swords in each hand. He realized that she used those to cut off his arms. As he fell on one knee, wincing in pain over his severed arms, he was actually more confused instead.
"You weren't expecting me to shrink down to a smaller size were you? It's thanks to Yellow that I'm used to this form and can change my form at will." Blue said with her back towards the anthromorphic reptile. She to answer back his surprised stare by turning to face him as he clutched his side where his arm use to be.
"I was surprised that all those earlier attacks the gems through at you didn't seem to affect you at all. You weren't even trying to stop them from doing it because you were confident that you could defend yourself against it. Your skin may appear to impenetrable, but that's not entirely true now is it?" Blue said to their foe as he realized that she figured something out about him.
"When I launched my projectiles at you, instead of facing them head on, you decided to dodge each one I threw at you. You can stand against almost any sort of physical attack. But diamond attacks are another matter aren't they?" Blue theorized out loud. Stevonnie soon made a connection.
That's why his skin was damaged when I threw my bubble punch earlier! Because of Steven's diamond powers, it actually left a mark!
"Those scales serve as a sort of armor for you. But when you elevate them, it leaves your other, more sensitive skin exposed." Blue explained to the kneeling komodo. After looking behind him to see his former arms, he looked down on the ground, he decided to respond to the gem leader.
"Congratulations on figuring out my weakness. This is the first in a very long time I have actually felt pain like this."
"I was hoping I wouldn't have to resort to doing what I did. But you did force my hand" Blue said to Daviron, feeling slight pity.
"Stevonnie, I'm sorry you had to see this. I know you don't like seeing such violence." Blue apologized to Stevonnie across from her, behind Daviron.
It's true that Stevonnie, more specifically Steven, didn't want to put more trauma on their mind. This wasn't the worst thing that scared him in his life, but it won't be the most easy going either. However, Stevonnie also knew that this guy had to be stopped. Especially since he was the one leading the charge on this attack of the zoo. However, both Steven and Connie couldn't help but feel sorry for him, especially since they learned about his history with the gem empire.
"Listen, I can't forgive you and your friends for what you all did to this place and everyone on it, including my friends. But, I can understand why your angry." Stevonnie told Daviron as he was still kneeling on the ground with his back facing them.
"In fact, those twins from earlier… Homeworld attacked their home too didn't they?" Stevonnie said. Blue and Spinel realized that explains why those twins were so angry when attacking them and the others earlier, especially Blue when she first walked in. Daviron remained silence, giving everyone an implication that the accusation was true. Blue couldn't help but feel guilt at hers and the other diamonds actions in the past. Even though this being was in charge of this painful attack on the zoo, Blue decided to speak up to the fallen enemy.
"You probably wouldn't believe me, but I do regret the actions committed by me, the other diamonds and the rest of the gem empire in the past. So if it's any consolation, I apologize for everything the gem empire has put you and your friends through." Blue told Daviron as she looked down at him in pity.
After a brief silence and shadows covering his eyes, both his good and blind one, Daviron responded to Blue's apology. Stevonnie, Blue and Spinel were hoping that he would accept it, but they got a different response instead.
"Let me ask you something. You're feeling remorse and now you're apologizing on behalf of the gem empire for invading other planets. Correct?" Daviron asked. Blue slowly nodded her head but was confused at where he was heading with this. Stevonnie and Spinel were wondering the same thing.
"Does an apology heal the physically wounded? The traumatized? How about bringing back those that have fallen? Can an apology do that?" Daviron asked with a cold tone. Everyone realized that he wasn't going to accept Blue's apology, but they suddenly felt an intense pressure building in the air. This made them feel frightened enough to the point where they cannot move. Blue and Stevonnie soon noticed a strange energy surrounding him. Thanks to them being a fusion, Connie could now see what Steven was seeing. For Steven however, the energy surrounding Daviron wasn't like the one he saw before when Daviron broke Steven's wall. This energy surrounding him was red felt more powerful than the power from the twins.
Wha- What is this?
Blue felt just as scared. This power he was radiating off was something she was completely unfamiliar with.
This isn't like the pressure those other two were giving off. This… I don't even know what this! This is unlike anything I've ever felt!
Despite the Komodo having no arms on him, Blue, Stevonnie and Spinel all thought the same thing, RUN! However, before any of them could do just that….
They each felt something sharp penetrate their backs!
Stevonnie looked behind themselves and saw at many scales piercing their back. They looked at Spinel next to them and realized that the same thing happened to her too. And judging by Blue's gritted teeth on her face, the same has occurred with her. Stevonnie also realized that they could barely move. Heck, they could hardly lift any of their fingers. It wasn't long before they fell forward on the ground. Without having the strength to move, Stevonnie unfused. Steven and Connie were now face down on the ground, with half of the scales on each of their backs and feeling pain and numbness all over their bodies.
But…. How?
"St-Steven….. Connie!" Blue struggled to say as her whole form was overtaken with so much pain that she could barely move her arms.
Soon enough, Daviron decided to stand back up with ease. Almost as if he was faking his pain or struggling to stand up from earlier.
"Don't assume that just because you severed my arms that battle is over. If you're all confused, why don't you take a look at my former arms on the ground." Daviron told them. Once he did, with each of their strength, they turned their heads towards his fallen arms and noticed that both of them were missing some scales that originally covered it. That could only mean that the scales that were once on his arms are now in everyone's backs.
"Whether they are on my body or separated from it, as long as my scales themselves are within my range, I can detach them from my body at will and manipulate their movements." Daviron explained as a couple sharp scales that were originally on his severed arms were now floating next to him on both sides. However, he still had another surprise to show them.
"Do you remember what I said before we all fought?" He asked the people around them. Whether they were face down (Steven and Connie) or still standing, but feeling too much pain to move (Blue and Spinel).
"I said "Fighting me is pointless". There are two reasons why. The first one is because I believed that no one would break through my skin. I see that I underestimated you all on that one. However, the second reason, well, see for yourself." The komodo said as something was now growing from where his arms were on his body before Blue severed them.
"No way" Connie said, refusing to believe what she was seeing.
"You've got to be kidding me" Spinel said just as speechless as Blue just stared at their enemy. Her eyes shaking with fear as she saw what other skill he had.
He can regenerate?
New arms were quickly forming right where his old ones were. Not only did it regenerate fast, but it was quickly covered with multiple scales.
"Usually it's uncommon for someone to actually cut me, let alone sever one or two of my limbs. But on a rare occasion it ever does happen, it's good to have a little "insurance"". Daviron monologued as he flexed his newly formed arm. He then walked behind Spinel and with his newly formed arm, pushed her forward, resulting in her to fall face first. Blue could only watch in horror at seeing her fall.
S-Spinel!
Daviron soon walked over to Blue to do the exact same thing. Even though she was still taller than him, he took advantage of her smaller size and pushed her. Once he did, he squatted down to resume something he mentioned to her earlier.
"You said that you were feeling remorseful about what you and the other diamonds did to other planets. I might as well tell you this now. You are thousands of years too late to be feeling any sort of regret." Daviron said as he stood back up and made his way towards Steven and Connie. Blue could only tear up in frustration as no matter how hard she tried to get back up, her form felt like it was screaming.
"It's only a matter of time before the pain becomes too much and you'll retreat back into your gem" Daviron told her as he continued to walk towards the humans. However, he stopped in his tracks in order to take precautions.
"Just to be safe" He soon detached more scales from his arms, with new scales quickly forming, and sent them towards where he knocked down Pearl, Garnet and Amethyst earlier. Soon enough the three gems could feel the scales penetrate their forms, preventing them from getting back up off the ground.
"AHHHHHHH!" Garnet, Pearl and Amethyst screamed in pain.
Steven heard their cries of pain and was beginning to glow pink. It was bad enough that this guy pierced him, Connie, Spinel and Blue when they didn't see it coming. But HOW DARE this guy painfully pierce people who were already down. This guy was merciless. Perhaps Steven should do the same against him. However, so long as these things were in his back and his body numb, it wasn't long before his glow diminished.
"I recommend you and your human friend give up trying to move. My scales have a different effect on organic beings. Aside from pain, once they penetrate an organic's body, the being is overcome with paralysis. You and your friend won't be getting up anytime soon." Daviron explained to Steven, looking down at him. Quickly though, Daviron changed the subject.
"But let's talk about you. You possess the power of a diamond. Don't you?" Daviron asked Steven with certainty as Steven just widened his eyes in surprise.
"I thought it was strange that a human being could possess the power to defend himself against my underlings attacks, glow or even fuse. But once I realized that fusion or yours actually cracked my scales, there was no mistaking that you possess similar powers and strength like Blue Diamond back there." He said as he looked back at the fallen Blue. Steven could only sweat in worry as he wondered what this guy was going to do now that he knows Steven is a diamond too.
"You are a diamond, yet you have a human body. I'm not entirely certain what to do with you. I can't risk hurting you too much, so I'll let the masters decide your fate." Daviron told Steven. Steven was confused at one of the last words he said.
"Masters"?
"I guess it's time to take our leave now" Daviron said to himself. He was standing up and about to mentally contact the master to summon up a portal to his location.
Steven didn't know what was going to happen next. Was the komodo going to kidnap him and his friends? Despite the pain and numbness he was feeling throughout his body, he was mind was in a "worry overdrive".
This can't end like this! It just can't! Guys! Someone! Please get up! I have to get up! SOMEONE HELP ME!
Before Steven could overexert himself mentally, his prayers for help got answered.
SMASH!
Daviron was quickly punched in the face out of nowhere and blown away a few feet. He landed on his back, but quickly got back up on his feet.
Steven couldn't believe that someone actually came to his and his friends rescue. The only question was, who were they?
He felt his face and was not only surprised to feel a slight crack on the side of his face, but also how hot his face felt. It was like he was hit in the face by a flaming meteor. He looked back and saw who threw the punch.
This unknown figure was wearing black clothing. A black overall jumpsuit, shoes, gloves and was even wearing a black full face helmet over their entire head. (In case any of you are wondering, this is the same person that was shown at the end of the chapter "The Apology"). To Steven, they just looked like some sort of motocross rider. What surprised Steven and everyone else around still conscious though was that the fist that supposedly hit Daviron was on fire. An actual flame was enveloping his hand.
"Who are you?" Daviron said in confusion
The masked figure didn't say anything as he just looked looked over at the reptilian-like elite while holding up the fiery fist.
Since everyone couldn't move, they had no choice but to place their hopes on this strange individual. Since he punched Daviron, they're hoping that this person will save them. Of course, everyone doesn't know what this stranger's true motives are. Guess they're going to have to find out, depending on what they do next.
Although he chose to remain silent, in his head, the masked figure only thought one thing.
No turning back now. Lets do this!
TO BE CONTINUED!
Just like that, we got a better look at ONE of the antagonists of this story, Daviron, an anthromorphic Komodo dragon like being and one of the elites of the evil group of this story. I won't say much about his backstory, aside from his planet being invaded by Homeworld, but I'll explain more about his abilities.
Daviron: Like a regular Komodo Dragon, his skin is reinforced by armored scales. For his race, when his kind are born, their skin/scales start out in a very light green color and as they get older, it becomes more darker and more harder, like armor. In Daviron's case, his skin would be as hard as steel or iron. However, when he uses his aura, he enhances his skin to the point where it can withstand just about anything, unless someone else have a stronger aura than him.
Another of his abilities is that he can detach his scales and using his aura, can manipulate them however he pleases. Since he uses his aura to enhance them, they're like blades. AND, as he explained to Steven, they have a paralyzing effect on organic beings.
Finally, the coup de grace, if any of his limbs are to be severed, then he can regenerate those limbs and scales as well.
Who is the stranger in black you might be asking? Remember that "Mysterious stranger" that I mentioned in the summary of this story? THIS IS THAT PERSON! He'll have a major role in this story. First, you will all get to see what he can do next chapter. I can't wait to show them off in the next chapter. See you then!
