Chapter 23: Max saved the team.

December was a quiet month. Spencer and Max spent Christmas eve at her dad's house, cooking dinner together, watching movies and playing with Sammy. The next day he took her to meet his mom, who has one of her good days.

His mom loved Max and she told her some old stories of Spencer as she used to. Then they left the Max's sister's home to have lunch.

They watched Star Wars episode VIII and ate ice cream afterwards, talking about the movie.

When New year's eve arrived, the couple spent it at the Lincoln Memorial with live music with a firework show and their midnight kiss.

Spencer was so happy to spend those holidays with her and her family. He never thought he could have suck a great time during Christmas and New Year's eve.

But vacations does not last forever and the time to return to work arrived.

The first thing he knew was that he will return to his full time on the field job so he was excited about it.

The team had some cases and he was feeling amazing to be with them every week. But the BAU never has a break and this time the infamous Linda Barnes tried to get in the way of the team.

Somehow she removed Emily, Dave, Penelope, Tara and himself from the team. Saying Emily was not a good leader, Dave was too old for the job, Penelope was send to cybercrime because... he did not understand why she cannot be part of their unit, Tara will be part of another unit and he was too broken to work normally.

The day he knew the plans for him, he was upset. His blood was boiling and his "in prison" self wanted to punch someone... maybe that woman. Thankfully his normal self got in control soon after those thoughts crossed his mind.

Max was in the kitchen making tea. She could tell he needed it.

"Ok Spencer... explain it again" she said in a calm voice as she brought him his cup and sat next to him.

"Linda Barnes... she wants to build effective teams and in the process she destroyed teams so her political career can grow faster" he took a sip of his tea "she disbanded Matt's former team and she's after the BAU"

"Ok... so this bitch destroyed teams to make her look like a great manager and make her CV looks amazing"

"Yes" he looked at her "she sent me to teach again, full time. Dave got retired. Emily was send to another team. Penelope was send to the cybercrime unit. Tara was send to be the psychologist of the FBI"

"Sounds awful" she held his hand "I know you love to teach, I saw you after them and you looked happy but I think you are happier at the BAU"

"It's been my job for almost fourteen years and I can't imagine not being part of the team"

She held his cheeks "what are you going to do?"

"I don't know... I'm clueless right now"

"You are brilliant and you will come up with something sooner or later"

4 months later

The team was not the same. Emily was part of an awful team, Penelope's new team was terrible and she did not feel like the was making a difference, Dave was helping with the show based on his novel and Tara was trapped in a terrible job helping FBI couples with communication problems.

Spencer was trapped with hormonal college students that were in his class just too see him. Some of them stopped to flirt when Max arrived one day after class and kissed him in when she went to pick him up.

"Spencer. I will be honest with you" she said serious, sitting next to him "you need to talk to Emily" he looked at her confused and she let out a frustrated sigh "baby... you aren't happy. And I bet your other teammates aren't happy eight so... I think you should talk to her"

"What can she do?"

"I don't know. Maybe she will have a better idea to kick that bitch away"

"I wish it was that easy but you are right, I will go with her" she smiled and kissed him "I love you, you know that right?"

"Yes I do, but it's cute when you say it" she hugged him "I want to meet her so I will go with you"

"You sure?"

"Yes"

"Ok, we can go tomorrow" she nodded and hugged him tightly.

The next day the couple went to Emily's apartment. They found of that she was thinking about leaving her new team and returned to Interpol so Spencer and Max convinced her to fight for the team.

And she accepted after a beautiful speech about the BAU facing terrible crisis and how they ended up victorious.

At that moment JJ and Penelope contacted her about case the TA found early that day.

Max decided to leave them before JJ and Penelope arrived so the team can talk.

"I hope you can meet the rest sooner Max. You are someone special for the baby boy of the team and I'm sure you will be part of the family like Will or Kristy are for us"

"I can't wait for that. I think Spencer wants to protect his privacy a little longer and I totally understand. I mean I was the one who proposes that"

"I understand. I know him for a long time and he was that kind of guy. Like his privacy and keep his loved ones away from this job"

Max nodded "I will support him no matter what" she smiled and Emily smiled back "I will pick him up after the meeting" the black haired woman nodded and waved at Max as she left.

Then the rest of the team arrived and Penelope and JJ explained the case to the rest. They decided it was something they needed to do, with or without the permission of Linda Barnes.

They started to work on it. It was hard but after some situations they had to face with their new boss, the case was solved and one of the victims was the daughter of a politician so he forced the BAU to be fully restored.

Spencer went to Max home that day and they celebrated. The next day he left the college and returned to the FBI.

One day Spencer started to get weird emails sending him information about an old member of the FBI who was missing. He could not identify the address because it was not part of his contacts but he needed to verify that information before telling the team.
