Many days had passed since Australia had been aboard England's ship. Currently Australia was sitting against the mast of said ship, it outstretched across the vessel so Australia had a birds eye view of his surroundings, which was mostly watching the ship plough through the ocean's waves. It had taken him a while to get used to walking on the boat as it sailed over the waves, his Dad though, looked as if he had been doing it practically all his life so thankfully he was patient as the young nation slowly stumbled alongside of him.

England had been busy in his study with some paper work and said that they would be nearing his home soon, so he suggested that Australia occupied himself with seeing if he could spot when they were approaching the land.

Australia was very excited to see this new land. He smiled with anticipation at meeting the other nations as well. Ever since the other nations had landed at his home he had been fascinated with learning more about them, and in turn himself. He knew he was different from his Aboriginal people not just in looks but also in other ways. While they would grow from children to elders and then pass on, he would stay as a child which both saddened and confused him. Then there was the time when a crocodile was terrorising their camp and it was a crafty little bugger, and strong too. So, Australia wanted to try and help his friends and so he snuck out in the night to try and lure it away from his people, he had come back to the camp successful but with substantial injuries and covered in his own blood. But when they went to heal him they found his injuries healing at an unnatural rate.

So, he wanted to know more about him and what he actually was, he knew he was a nation. But he didn't know what it fully entailed. And he was interested to see what England's home would be like and how different it would be from his own. He wondered what kind of animals would be there, obviously not ones like his, after all, England wouldn't have been so careless walking around on his own near that Billabong.

Australia's attention was diverted to the sight of Steve, his koala friend trying to climb across the mast to him. The wooden texture was slippery compared to the texture of the tree bark back home, even Australia had difficulty the first couple of times. Just before Steve could fall off the beam Australia had leant forward and caught his animal friend in his secure hands.

"Here," Australia laughed and placed his friend on his shoulder, "You'd better be careful about where you're climbing. We don't want ya to fall in the ocean"

Steve just growled in irritation and securely latched himself to his owner's shoulder so he wouldn't fall again. He seemed to make a growling sound deep in his throat that sounded like he was trying to communicate with the young nation. Australia seemed to know what his friend was trying to say. He had spent a great deal of his time with Steve, Australia practically met him just after he had awoken for the first time as an ankle biter, so he seemed to sense what his friend was trying to say over the years.

"It won't be so bad," Australia tried to convince his oldest friend, "I'm sure there will be real trees for you to climb in."

Suddenly, a new voice caught Australia's attention. "Australia?"

Upon hearing the voice Australia carefully climbed down to the deck where England was waiting.

"What have I said about climbing up there?" England asked while raising a large eyebrow, "Heaven forbid if we hit rough seas and you fall in the water"

"She'll be right. I'm really good at swimming" Australia smiled. And he was, most times he would spend his days swimming around his home, the coral reefs were always his favourite spots.

"I'm sure you are, but I'm not the best at it so I won't be able to retrieve you if you do" England stated.

He could already tell that raising this boy was sure to be a handful with that care free spirit of his. But he wouldn't change his decision on raising the boy. He didn't know why that was either, he just brushed off the lingering question with the answer that this young nation was representing his empire in a way, so he wouldn't allow any foolishness.

"Okay, I'll be more careful," Australia mumbled. He didn't want to cause his Dad to worry and besides, he didn't think Steve liked being up that high with the boat moving about, the poor little fella had already thrown up twice.

England smiled, "Don't worry, we'll be home soon so it shouldn't be for too much longer"

Being in a new environment was sure to be difficult at first for Australia, but it would be better than running wild amongst those creatures of his. But that wasn't the real thing that had England worried for the small boy. It was about a letter he had received from France's pet bird, Pierre. It had mentioned that a world meeting was to be held in the next couple of days. He didn't want to take Australia with him, but he was certainly not leaving him by himself in an unfamiliar environment. The reason why he didn't want to take Australia was simple, other nations were exploring and looking for other nations to take for themselves. Australia was still so small and vulnerable, so he didn't want to others to really know about him just yet. But it seemed as if he had no other choice.

England beckoned Australia to follow him into his quarters. Australia had sat crossed-legged on the bed and England sat across from him in his desk chair.

"Listen Australia, I have to go to a meeting with some other nations in a couple of days. And I hate to do this to you so soon after your arrival, but you will be attending with me"

"Really?!" Australia grinned with excitement. He couldn't wait to meet the others, although he was hesitant to see Netherlands again, after their last encounter wasn't so friendly.

It wasn't that long and they had landed at the shipping dock in England's home. Australia had observed from the deck of the ship how different England's home was to his. It was so much busier, so full of activity, there seemed to be people everywhere walking on the streets.

"Hold my hand," England said as he held his hand out to the boy, "We wouldn't want you to get lost"

Lost was never a thing Australia had to face, he knew his land like the back of his hand but he figured that he probably would get lost if he didn't pay attention. So he clutched his father's hand as the older nation lead him through his home's capital.

As they walked Australia felt Steve dig into his shoulder more with anxiousness. They had never been to a place like this before. The sky was grey that indicated rainfall in the near future, a chilly breeze filtered the air, it had never been this cold at his home before. He shivered slightly and walked closer to the older nation. He was overwhelmed with the amount of people that walked past them and the occasional horse-drawn carriage. Never in his life had he seen so many before and England didn't even seem phased by the noise. It was so different from his quiet outback home.

Australia followed England until the older nation stopped in front of a house, his green eyes widened as he saw it. It was larger than any of the other houses the young Australian had seen and even had a small forest behind it. The house was about two stories tall and painted a light cream colour with a large garden out the front.

"This is my home," England stated. Australia looked up at his father and he could tell that the older must have been happier to be back home. "I'll show you to your room"

England opened the door and dropped his things in the corner of the hall, he would put them away later. Australia followed England as the older nation showed him around his home and pointed out what each different room is for. Australia tried to remember where each was but they all jumbled together, it would probably take some time until he could tell where all of them were.

"What's this room for?" He asked as he noticed that England had skipped completely over a room. This door was shut so Australia couldn't see what was inside of it.

"It nothing, just an old storage room." England brushed off with a wince. Actually, it was America's old room, after the rebellion he kept it locked as he didn't want to stumble into it by accident. "I would appreciate it if it remained locked"

Australia could sense the distant sadness in his Dad's voice, so he muttered a quiet yes. The rest of the tour was in silence as Australia awkwardly shuffled behind the other not sure how to break the silence. Luckily it wasn't long before England stopped in front of another room.

"This will be your room," England explained, "I'll let you get settled. I shall have dinner ready in an hour so meet me in the dining room"

Australia watched as England turned around and left, his stomach growled softly at the mention of food. Being stuck on a ship for countless days on end with nothing to eat but a bit of bread each day would do that. Australia stepped into his room and placed Steve onto a pillow to lay on.

The room was simple, as it only contained a bed, a wardrobe and a bedside table with a candle lamp on it. He walked over to the window and looked out to the forest at the back of the house and watched as rain drops slid down the glass panes. He shivered once more from the cold air, it seemed to be getting colder and colder in England's home. Even though it got cold in his home in the dryer season it was never this cold, he already missed the way the sun at his home and how it the heat from it felt against his skin.

"It's gonna take a while to get used to this place mate" Australia spoke softly to Steve as he scratched his friend behind the ears. Steve was curled up on the soft pillow he was placed on to escape the cold air, he seemed to growl softly in agreeance to his owner's words.

Australia soon joined his furry friend and sat down next to him on the bed. He turned his gaze back out to the window sadly. A single tear ran down his face, but he wiped it away with the back of his hand. He already missed his home.

If Australia thought that the first few hours he had spent in England's home was rough, his first night was even worse. England had placed him in bed and given him some extra blankets to protect him against the cold and then went to bed himself claiming that he was exhausted after travelling for so long. But Australia laid awake in his room, he was tired yet he couldn't sleep. He had never slept in a bed before, and while it was soft and comfortable he still missed how he slept on the ground next to the warmth of a camp fire or sometimes he would even sleep in a tree next to Steve. Even if he had only been away from his home for a short time it didn't quell the ache in his chest every time he thought about his home. He was so overwhelmed with everything in England's home. The weather and the people he found the hardest to adjust to.

Australia sat up from the bed and picked up his blanket and carried the sleeping koala in his arms down the hall. It seemed that Steve had no trouble sleeping in the new environment, yet his friend could really sleep anywhere. He stuck his head into a doorway, but when it wasn't the one he was looking for he kept walking. Finally, he made it to the room he was searching for. England was asleep on his side on his own bed unaware that Australia stood hesitated in the door way. Australia prided himself on his courage, he handled snakes and spiders for goodness sake, but that seemed to go out the window once he was thrust into this new world that he had never seen before, and it scared him.

The young children in his camp back home would always sleep with their mothers and fathers if they were scared or had bad dreams. And on the rare occasion that Australia would have a nightmare they always welcomed him with open arms and loving hugs as they comforted him until he felt safe enough to fall asleep. But he gathered his courage and quietly made his way into his Dad's room. He crawled up onto the other side of the bed that wasn't occupied and curled in a small ball next to his father. He was careful to keep his distance so he didn't wake the older nation up and wrapped his blanket around him to keep him warm in the cold night. He felt more secure in the older nation's presence and he soon found that sleep started to call to him.

Awww! Isn't Little!Australia so cute! I wanted to write about how Australia would feel overwhelmed with living in a new place, being in an environment that he wasn't used to and missing his home. Since it was January when England arrived in Australia it was the middle of Summer, which I think means that it would be winter in the UK. And there winters get so much colder than Australia so that would also be something that Australia will have to adjust to. And if you have noticed that England is still a bit distant from Australia then you would be correct, he is still wary of getting too close to Australia after what happened with America. But I can promise soon that England will start considering Australia his son.

But the next chapter will be of the conference. How do you think it will it go? Which nations will Australia meet?
