A week had gone by since Olivia had stayed to care for Trevor and she soon received the good news that Alex had gotten engaged that very night. Olivia was happy for her and they met up to celebrate the good news over a few drinks.
Alex smirked as she sat beside her friend at the bar, they had both just finished work and decided to meet up for a quick drink to catch up about the weeks activities. Olivia didn't really delve into much detail about her evening with Trevor and that irritated Alex because she wondered if they hit it off or not. She had asked Trevor about it and his only response was that Olivia was patient with him, and kind. He didn't offer her any further details and she knew not to push it.
"So you still didn't tell me how your time with Trevor went" Alex started.
Olivia rolled her eyes "that's because there is nothing to tell, we didn't speak much. He stayed in his room while I finished my work in the living room, we had dinner in silence and then I gave his medication and he returned to his room."
"Wow so you both just ignored each other?" she shook her head "I guess I should have expected him to shut you out."
She scoffed, taking a sip of her wine "yeah... He's a real piece of work. So pissed at the world, and such an ass. He's a waste of good looks if you asked me."
Alex winced slightly "that's harsh... So I'm guessing if I asked you to cover for me again on Monday, it's going to be a no right?"
Olivia furrowed her eyebrows "what do you have planned for Monday?"
"Well Brayton and I have spoken things through and we want to get married soon, so we're going to see a wedding planner on Monday" she explained.
"How long would I need to stay?" she asked with a small smile.
"I just need two hours, but it'll be in the afternoon" she hoped that this wasn't too much of an imposition.
Olivia pursed her lips "I will try to get away from the precinct, but I am not making any promises."
She pulled Olivia in for a hug "thank you, again I owe for this. I just don't trust anybody else with him, you are the perfect person to stand in for that short time, because you are compassionate and you won't beat the shit out of him for being an asshole."
"Maybe it's because I am starting to understand why he's so bitter..." she sighed "I saw some of the pictures of him, before the chair and he looked so happy, and now all he does is sit around indoors, reading about the adventures that he can't take anymore. I would be bitter too if I were in that situation, I would be a bitch if I had to be helped all the time and its clear to see that he used to be an independent person and now he is forced to rely on help."
Alex narrowed her eyes "how do you know all of this if you two didn't speak? Or were you holding out on me?"
"He did not have to tell me that, I could see it, he looks sad. Do you ever take him outside to just see the busy streets and meet new people? what do you guys do all day?"
She shook her head "It's not that simple Liv, he won't have any of it. I offered to take him on walks, to do fun things and get out of that damn house but he doesn't want to. Trevor may be paraplegic but that did not take away his stubbornness."
Olivia smirked "sounds like me." she chuckled before giving her friend an inquisitive look "what if we made a bet?"
"First tell me the bet and I'll let you know what I think about it"
"Okay, so you have a wedding coming up soon and will have a ton of different appointments, I can arrange free time. If I can get Trevor to open up and be more fun, then you have to let Noah be your ring bearer."
Alex chuckled "and if you can't do it?"
"Then I will pay for your honeymoon" she smirked.
Alex shook her head "Liv I can't accept that"
She rolled her eyes "you won't have to because I won't lose." she let out a laugh "look I don't know what it is about him, but I feel like Trevor needs my help and I want to help him."
"Only because you think he is hot" Alex teased.
Olivia let out a laugh and shook her head "I won't even try to argue with that. That man is just beautiful, and I can tell that he is smart. Now I just need to break down those walls."
"I have never seen you like this before, usually you dismiss the idea of men, what changed?" she asked more seriously now.
Alex knew Olivia for a good few years and she had never seen her like this before. Olivia was usually hard to get to, and she often needed a few dates before she opened up and showed her true self to a man. She never chased, it just was not her scene, men often tried to get with her and she usually brushed them off.
So it was very confusing for her to see Olivia wanting to spend time with someone as cold as Trevor. She never saw her friend this intregued before but she would not stand in the way of it, she wanted to see where this would lead. Maybe, this would be her friends chance at a good relationship, or maybe Olivia just felt sorry for him and wanted to help him. She hoped it was the former and not the latter.
Olivia pursed her lips, she had no idea what it was about him, but she really wanted to get to know him. She wanted to break down his walls and see the man that hid behind that cold exterior, she wanted to see the smile that graced many of his old photos. Her mind had been plagued with thoughts of the man she met a week ago and she hated that she allowed herself to become intregued by him. There was just something about him that was different, he was not like any other man she met before and maybe that was a good thing.
Trevor had also experienced his fair share of thoughts about the beautiful brunette that had assisted him a week ago, he thought she was absolutely beautiful, but he was not going to say it out loud to anybody. He didn't know much about her, other than the fact that Alex and her knew each other since university because they were roommates. Alex had shared that bit of information but offered nothing further, and he certainly was not going to ask.
He caught himself wondering if he would see her again, or if she would now just remain in his mind. A woman so beautiful to look at, so soft to listen to, yet he didn't interact with her. He tried to play it down and threw in the excuse of her being a stranger to him and him not needing to speak to her because he wouldn't see her again. He knew that was a lie though, he wanted to get to know her but he wouldn't dare express that, because he was certain she would shut him down due to his situation.
"Earth to Olivia" Alex waved her hand infront of Olivia and smirked "where did you go?"
Olivia shrugged "I just thought about what you asked me and honestly I don't know how to answer you. I don't know what it is but there is something about Trevor that kind of makes me want to know more. He's a mystery to me and I want to know more about him."
"So you like him?"
"Alex let's be realistic, how can I like him? I don't even know his last name."
"So?" she retorted.
"So it's not ideal... I need to get to know him so that I can understand what I am feeling right now."
Alex raised her hands in surrender "okay, I apologise, I won't pry anymore and I will allow you two to get to know each."
"And our bet stands" Olivia added.
...
Monday came by faster than expected and Olivia was swamped with work, she had just gotten back from mercy hospital when she saw the text from Alex. She sat down at her desk and let out a yawn just as her office door opened.
"Hey are you busy right now?" Amanda asked.
She shook her head "nope, what's up?"
"I have to meet my sister for lunch, do you mind if I go? I promise I'll be back in the next hour" she asked.
Olivia ran her hand through her hair "it's okay, just keep your phone on incase we need you back here."
"thanks sarge." she walked out, closing the door behind her and leaving her superior to her work.
Looking down at the tons of files on her desk "I am never going to finish these in time" she sighed before calling Alex and explaining that she might be running a half hour late.
She decided to atleast take thirty minutes to dedicate to getting her work done, but her mind had other plans. Her thoughts were focused on Trevor and she wanted to kick herself for being so easily distracted at such a crucial time.
...
"Hey Trevor, I have to go, but Olivia is here" Alex hollered, walking toward his room.
Trevor wheeled out of the room and fought back the smirk that wanted to etch onto his face "Olivia, it's good to see you again."
She gave him a small smile, placing her files on the little coffee table "likewise, how are you doing today?"
"I'm okay, how are you?"
She was surprised that he actually came out to speak to her and didn't just hide in his room like the first time she came over. He seemed a lot lighter than the last time she saw him, so she assumed that maybe he was having a good day. A part of her mind told her that maybe he was happy to see her, but she quickly brushed that off.
"I am okay, just a bit stressed" she gave him a weak smile "have you had something to eat yet?"
"No I actually haven't" he frowned slightly.
Olivia smirked when an idea came to mind, she raised a brow at him "well I am really hungry too, but it's going to take forever if I cook something. So why don't we go to that little dinner down the block and eat there?"
He thought about it for moment, before realising that the dinner was filled with booths, and it was not exactly a wheelchair friendly spot. He pursed his lips "How are you going to get my chair up those steps at the entrance?"
Fuck!
She wanted to kick herself, she forgot that he can't go to places that are not wheelchair friendly. She watched as the smile disappeared from his lips and his dark expression settled back into place.
"Well then we can go somewhere else, I'm sure here has to be a wheelchair friendly dinner somewhere close by." she offered, hoping that he wouldn't turn her down.
He gave her a tight lipped smile "maybe some other time, I need to lie down for a bit because my arms are starting to get achy"
She pursed her lips "you need to eat so that you can take some medication" she placed her hand on his shoulder cautiously "I'll cook something up while you rest, do you have anything in mind?"
"No I don't, I'm not picky. Make whatever you are feeling for" he said with a small smile.
They made their way to the bedroom and Olivia tried her best to help him out of the chair without hurting him. Unfortunately she did not get it done as smoothly as she had hoped, she got him onto the bed but she fell onto of him with a loud thump. She looked down at him and gave him a small sheepish smile "I'm sorry, I am still learning the ropes."
He let out a soft laugh, much to her surprise "It's okay." his face softened as he looked up at her, seeing all of her gorgeous features up close.
He swallowed the lump in his throat as he took in her beautiful features, from her perfect lips that looked so soft. He wondered how would they feel against his. Her nose was as cute as button, it was possibly her most adorable feature. Then there was her eyes, they were the warmest shade of Hazel he had ever seen, they were filled with so much emotion.
Olivia looked down at him and had to fight herself, being this close to him was affecting her way more than she thought it would. She had completely forgotten about what she was supposed to be doing, but right now all that mattered was the man lying beneath her. She bit her lip, seeing him eye them and take a deep breath as her teeth sunk down on the plump skin of her lower lip.
It was as if they were in some sort of trance, both of them being drawn to each other, their eyes focusing on the other's face. Olivia slowly inched closer to him, her lips ghosting over his "I should get started on that meal"
He swallowed and closed his eyes, trying his absolute best to regain his composure "yes you should."
She eased off his body, ensuring that he was comfortable, giving him a sheepish smile "I'm sorry about that. I'll call you when the food is ready, for now, get some rest."
"Thank you Olivia" he smiled.
She walked out of the bedroom and took a deep breath, her mind was running wild. She could hardly believe that this was happening, she found him so damn attractive, but there was more to him. She wanted to get to know him, and spend more time with him.
