Olivia smirked over at Trevor and raised a brow at him "are you ready for this?"
"yes I am. It's been forever since I've seen this place." he sighed.
She reached down and gave his hand a squeeze "I'll be right by your side Trev. Regardless of what anybody says or does."
His chair moved beside her as she walked into the restaurant and stopped when they saw a young waiter at a post in the front of the diner. They stopped at the post and the waiter smirked down at Trevor before letting out a gasp.
"Mr Langan, it has been forever since I've seen you. How are you doing?" he said with a sweet smile.
Trevor let out a heavy breath "I was dealing with a few things Evan."
Evan led Olivia and Trevor to a table in the back and handed each of them a menu "we heard about the accident, I'm glad to see you're doing well. I was worried about you."
"Thank you Evan, I'm doing much better as you can see." he smirked.
Evan looked over at Olivia and let out a chuckle "I can see very well, I'll leave you two to it. I'll be back in a few minutes to take your orders, can I get you two anything to drink at the moment?"
Olivia shrugged "I'll have a coffee"
"I'll have a glass of your best juice" Trevor said with a chuckle "I know you've never served me anything non alcoholic before, but this is my new normal now."
"You don't need alcohol to keep the lady entertained. She already looks like she's happy." he said before walking off to get their beverages.
Olivia reached over and gave his hand a gentle squeeze "first name basis with the waiter, you must have been here every day."
He nodded "I was. It was my favourite little get away place, I came here whenever Stephanie started acting out, or when things got too hectic. This was my usual spot, and I would have a beer or two and some of their best beef stroganoff."
"Now I know what I'll be eating today." she smirked "what would Stephanie do to get you to walk out?"
"Stephanie was a very demanding woman, I loved her but she was a bit crazy at times. She would accuse me of cheating and a whole lot of other crap and then she would snap. One night I came home to find every cup, bowl, and plate in my kitchen had been shattered because she found out I had a meeting with a female attorney. She was jealous, possessive" he shook his head "that's why it was so hard for me to believe that she was the cheating one, that she would go to my best friend as my replacement."
Olivia pursed her lips "maybe that's why she kept accusing you... You deserve better Trevor. You deserve someone who will love you for you, endlessly."
"I have given up hope on love. It all seems so overrated now, I don't want to be stuck like that again."
"What about you? Do you think you'll find love again?" he asked.
She shrugged "I don't know. I haven't given it much thought, but I do know that if it comes I won't push it away. I'm not looking for love or anybody right now, but if it finds me, I won't deny it."
"What about Noah? Does he have any thoughts on his mother moving on?" he teased.
Olivia let out a laugh and shrugged "he is three years old. He's not as opinionated as he seems. As long as he is treated well and gets spoilt and loved he will be okay."
He chuckled "he seems amazing, you're really lucky to have him and he is lucky to have you. I can see how much you love him whenever you mention him."
She bit her lip "I do love him, that little boy is my whole world. I can't imagine life without him, he has my whole heart."
...
Two hours had come and gone, and the pair were still seated in the tiny diner. Their conversations had ranged from friends, past relationships, family to current views on love. They laughed and joked as they ate their meals and enjoyed the privacy of the place.
Trevor looked over at Olivia as she threw her head back and let out a hearty laugh, the melodious sound that left her lips was something he would never tire of hearing. He caught himself staring at her, basking in all of her beauty and actually felt quite honoured to have her beside him. To be a part of her life, even if he only had the role of a friend.
Olivia noticed Trevor's eyes on her and felt her cheeks flush ever so slightly. If she was being completely honest with herself, she would admit that she felt something for him. There was something brewing between them and she knew that she would not be able to deny it forever.
"Would you date someone now?" she asked nervously, "if you really felt something for them, would you enter a relationship with them?"
He pursed his lips, taking a moment to ensure that he the right words before responding.
"I'm not sure. I don't feel that I'm made for relationships, and to be honest I'm not sure if anybody would ever want to have a relationship with me. It's not something I'm considering."
"I get it." she gave him a warm smile "relationships are complicated and often messy. Plus you believe that you'll be a burden, even though we have all told you time and time again that it's not true."
"Would you want to date me?" he asked, saying it before he lost his nerve. He feared her answer and immediately regretted asking, until she spoke up.
She shrugged "sure, you're handsome, funny and an amazing person. I would date you, but I feel like we would have a lot of issues, because we're both so damn stubborn."
He laughed "that we are. You're the first person I met that could rival my stubborn streak, even Alex can't handle it sometimes and she's been at this for way longer."
"That's because you're secretly a very nice person, you just hide under that stubborn, jackass exterior. Plus stubborn people know how to handle stubborn people, Alex is only stubborn when it comes to playing match maker."
"The amount of times she has tried to pair me off with random people is unknown to me. You're the only one that I actually like..." he cleared his throat "spending time with" he caught himself, trying to steer away from his slip of the tongue.
Olivia noticed his reaction to his own words and knew better than to question him about it, so instead she decided to ignore it and act as if she didn't realise.
"Well that's good to know. Here I was thinking that you dreaded spending time with me" she teased.
He shook his head "I could never. You're a funny lady and you make me laugh, not many people know how to do that."
She twirled her hair and smirked at him, speaking in her best high pitched voice "well that's because not everybody is as smart and great as I am. I'm rare, you should be so lucky to have some of my time."
Trevor let out a laugh at her mean girl act "and you're a bad actress."
"hey that was a good impression." she sassed.
He raised his hands in mock surrender and let out a laugh "okay, I'll let you have it this time. Don't get used to winning though, it's not going to happen all the time."
She scoffed playfully "yes it is, because you can't say no to me."
Trevor and Olivia continued to have their playful banter and laughed, neither of them noticing the group of women that entered the diner.
Stephanie and her three best friends had decided to meet up for a quick coffee while discussing wedding plans. She moved toward the back of the diner and saw him, clad in his electric chair with a gorgeous woman beside him.
She watched as they laughed and spoke happily, as if they had known each other for years. She had to bite back the feeling of jealousy that was starting to arise within her. She did not like that he was with someone else, laughing and looking at her with the look in his eyes that should have been reserved for her only.
Her friend, Kimberly, noticed the look on Stephanie's face and nudged her gently "is that Trevor?"
She nodded "yeah, I'm assuming that she is his new side piece."
"You seem angry" her other friend, Patricia, pipped up.
Stephanie scoffed "why would I be pissed. I have a man, and he can actually walk, he doesn't need to be pushed around all day in a stupid chair."
Olivia caught wind of Stephanie's words and looked up, locking eyes on the woman she knew broke his heart.
She pursed her lips before averting her attention back to Trevor, knowing fully that she would be watching their every move.
Trevor looked over at Olivia who was seated beside him, and smirked "you have chocolate on your face."
"Where?" she asked, wiping her cheek "did I get it?"
He shook his head and let out a laugh "come here, let me."
She leaned closer and allowed him to wipe the smudge of chocolate off her cheek, their faces only inches apart.
He took a deep intake of air, having her this close was affecting him more than he wanted to let on.
Olivia leaned her forehead against his and closed her eyes "I know we can't cross the line, but you're making it difficult by being this handsome."
He let out a light laugh, his breath ghosting over her lips "you're the one that makes this difficult, you're beautiful" he whispered in response.
"Would you hold it against me if I kissed you?" she asked, almost nervously.
"No" he whispered "because I want to do the same to you right now."
She leaned closer, slowing, taking her time before gently placing her lips on his.
Both of them felt a surge of electricity as soon as their lips met, it was as if the sparks started flying. He cupped her cheek ever so gently, their still pressed together, both of them shocked by how good it felt to kiss the other..
Trevor kissed her back, allowing his tongue to slip past her lips and explore her mouth.
Olivia bit back a moan and deepened their kiss, their tongues fighting for dominance, as their kiss grew in intensity.
They only broke apart when air became necessary, both of them breathing heavy, their lips still inches apart.
"Wow" Olivia whispered breathlessly "you're a really good kisser."
He let out a shy chuckle "as are you. I just gave as good as I got."
She pressed another soft peck to his lips "where do we go from here? We crossed a line" she whispered once she finally managed to gather her thoughts.
He sighed "I don't know. But that can't happen again, we can't be together. Both of us aren't ready for a relationship and I don't want to hurt you by giving you hope."
"I understand, and I'm sorry for kissing you, it was unprofessional and stupid of me" she responded, a sigh leaving her lips "we should probably get going, I have to get back to work."
Stephanie watched as they left the restaurant, Trevor was so engaged in a conversation with Olivia that he didn't even notice her presence.
She scoffed "did you see that? They were all over each other like horny teenagers, fucking disgusting."
"That was you in the past" Kimberly said with a laugh.
She rolled her eyes "that's different, we knew each other forever, we were engaged. He probably just met her and now they're trying to prove a point."
...
Trevor raised an eyebrow at Alex "what is it this time?"
"It's ten thirty." She let out a laugh "I'm trying not to pry, but Olivia hasn't told me anything about your dinner date yesterday. What happened?"
"Nothing much, we spoke and ate. It was fun. I got to know a lot about her and she got to know more about me. Then we came back home and had some ice cream to top everything off and spent the rest of the afternoon here until you came." he explained with a shrug.
She rolled her eyes "so nothing juicy happened? No kisses?"
"Alex!" he scolded, "I've told you time and time again that Olivia and I are just friends. There is nothing more, and nothing more is going to happen."
"Why not?" she persisted.
"I can see that you both like each other, whenever you two are together you have a massive smile on your face. She makes you happy. Why won't you allow yourself to be happy?"
"Because it's not worth it! I am not worth it!" he spat, anger evident on his face.
"That's not true and you know it." Alex scoffed.
"Olivia deserves more than I could ever hope to give her. I am not built for relationships, especially not now. I'll only hurt her and I don't want that. I want her to be happy, forever."
"So why can't you be the one to keep her happy forever?" she frowned.
He sighed "because her forever is going to be much longer than mine. Alex I've got months left in the bag and Olivia has years, years that I refuse to fill with sadness."
"That's not your choice to make. What if she wants to spend those years with you, those months."
"Then we can do it as friends." he said before wheeling himself out of the living room.
