"Are you just going to ignore me now?" Olivia asked as she watched Trevor wheel himself out of the living room as soon as she walked in.
He continued moving toward his room, completely ignoring her comment. He had not seen her since their dinner date, he couldn't face her, not after their kiss. He had no idea what to say to her or how to face her after that, he wasn't ready for to reject him so he figured he would reject her first.
"Great! Go back into your little world of anger and self hatred." she hollered after him.
His chair did a sudden turn around, a scowl on his face "What do you want me to do Olivia? I told you time and time again that I am not ready to be in a relationship."
"Who the hell said anything about a relationship?" she asked with a frown.
She moved over to him and knelt down in front of him "I am not ready for a relationship either, all we did was kiss. That's it, nothing more, we're both adults and both of us allowed that to happen, it doesn't change anything."
"But... That's not what usually happens" he whispered.
She let out a laugh "Trevor I am not one of those people who is going to force you into a relationship when I can clearly see that you don't want one. We kissed and it was great, that's it, there doesn't have to be anything more to it."
He furrowed his eyebrows "so you're okay with us just being friends, even though we crossed a line?"
She shrugged "it is what it is. Neither of us want a relationship so that's okay, if we ever feel the need to start one up we can discuss it. For now though, I just want my friend back, and not this grumpy asshole." he laughed.
"I guess you're right. I'm sorry for overreacting." she brushed him off before going to the kitchen to get their dinner.
Trevor watched her walk out of the room and let out a sigh, he liked her a lot but he didn't want to scare her off. In fact their kiss had lit up a fire within him that he hadn't felt in years, he felt alive again and she gave him that feeling but he did not want to push it. It was easier to stay friends and hide his feelings than to be open with her and make things awkward or worse have his heart broken again.
Olivia stood in the kitchen and let out a heavy breath, she was playing with fire and she knew it. They let things get too complicated and his words cut her a lot more than she expected them to, she was falling for him and it scared the crap out of her. Because she knew she would fall and hit the ground, he wasn't ready for a relationship, he didn't see her as more than a friend.
She forced her massive smile back into place and acted as if she was okay, but deep down she was hurt. He turned her down and hurt her, without him even knowing it. She felt rejected.
...
"What are you doing?" Trevor asked as he watched Olivia pack a few things into a basket.
She shrugged "isn't it obvious, I'm packing a picnic basket for us."
He frowned "Olivia I'm in position to go out for a picnic, can't we just stay here?"
She shook her head "no, you made a promise to try something different each time I came by, and you're going to stick to it. Now I know a little trail not too far from the city, it's filled with beautiful scenery and I'm sure you will love it. The trails are wheelchair friendly and there is a spot where you can have a little secluded picnic."
He sighed "you're not going to accept a no are you?"
She crossed her arms over her chest "why don't you want to go? It will be fun..."
He scoffed "Olivia I don't find sitting in my chair while people run around and enjoy themselves fun. I can't do things that most people can and I've accepted that"
She sighed "that's not true and you know it. Can you just try doing something other than sitting in this house for once. You never know if you'll like it until you try, and if you get out there and still feel like it's not for you after a while I will bring you right back here."
"No." he said with a scowl "I don't want to do it."
"Why not?" she asked with an exasperated sigh "all you do is sit in the house, pining away for a life that is gone. Trevor you've been given a second chance and you should be making the best of it, not spending all your time couped in this house and hiding from the world."
"It's hard Olivia!" he spat, a scowl etched onto his face "its harder than you think to just go outside and have fun like a normal person when I clearly am not. People look at me and stare whenever I go out and it makes me feel like an outcast."
He let out a heavy breath "this is just how it is for me, I would rather stay here and spend hours alone, then to go outside and feel inferior and less human because i can't do something as simple as walking."
She leaned down and clutched his hands into her own "Trev, you need to face your fears eventually, and I'll be right there with you."
She gave him a small smile and held their joint hands close to her chest "please just come with me and see for yourself what it's really like. You can't hide from the world forever, and I want to be seen with you."
He scoffed "no you don't"
"Yes I do" she reached up and cupped his cheek "I do want to go out there and have a picnic with you and spend time with you. Trevor you are not as horrible as you think you are. You're amazing and that's why I keep coming back here again, to spend time with you."
"Fine, I'll go on a picnic with you" he said, a hint of a smile tugging at his lips "but only because I don't have the heart to turn down a beautiful woman again."
She let out an excited squeal and moved closer, pulling him in for a hug "thank you."
He chuckled "if I knew it would make you this happy I would have agreed much earlier."
...
Olivia walked beside Trevor's electric chair and gave him a small smile as they made their way down the gorgeous trail. It was a beautiful day and the trail was quiet, filled with very few groups of people moving about. She led him down to a opening and stopped beneath a massive oak tree before laying down the blanket she brought.
She stacked some pillows up against the tree and moved him out of the chair, gently moving him so that he could sit up against the tree. Once he was set up comfortably she sat beside him and started unpacking the basket. She handed him a sandwich and raised a brow at him "so how are you feeling?"
He gave her a smile "this is nice, it's so peaceful here"
She nudged him "so it's not horrible and bad and all the other things you thought it would be huh?"
He let out a laugh "no it's not, you were right I do like it out here, plus I've got great company."
She smirked "I'm glad you like it."
He took the sandwich she offered him and thanked her "so the wedding is a few days away, are you still sure you wanna go with me?"
"Yeah. I want to see the dumbass that walked out on a great man like you" she gave him a small smile.
He sighed "I wasn't that great when we were together so I don't blame her. I was an ass, a self centred jerk who didn't care for anyone but myself. Stephanie met me at a hard time in my life, my grandmother who was my best friend had passed away and I was in a rut. She pulled me out of it, helped me heal and then I fell for her. Olivia I wanted to marry her and spend my life with her, but she just left."
"Trevor I'm so sorry" she said feeling guilty about calling Stephanie a dumbass. She gave him a small smile "do you still love her?"
"I will always care for her, but our love died the day she aborted my baby. She killed what could possibly be my last opportunity to have a child." Trevor said with a sigh.
"You can still have children... I mean there's always insemination and a ton of other ways to get someone pregnant."
"But it's not the same as having a baby the natural way, I wanted to have two kids, a boy and a girl. I could picture them, running around being adorable and giving me a run for my money. My daughter would be a smartass, with her mother's attitude and looks, she would be a daddy's girl. My son would love sport and I'd teach it to him, he would be smart and funny."
She took his hand "you can still have that, with the right woman. It may not be natural but it still gives you options, and that is better than nothing"
"yeah but I've given up hope on finding the right woman, because nobody finds a paraplegic attractive enough to settle down with, let alone start a family with." he said with a sigh.
She scoffed "okay I don't want you take this the wrong but you are damn attractive and any woman would be lucky to be with you. You're smart, kind and funny" she took his hand "also if you can't get married, we can make a pact to marry each other when we turn fifty and we're still alone."
He let out a laugh "bold of you to assume that I might live that long"
"Hey don't talk like that" she scolded before taking a chocolate muffin and holding it up to him.
He smirked "you needn't feed me"
"but I want to" she smirked before motioning for him to take a bite of the muffin.
Trevor sighed and rolled his eyes before opening his mouth and allowing her to feed him a piece of the muffin. He bit into it and hummed at the taste of it, he had not had a muffin in years.
He swallowed before nodding in approval "that is an amazing muffin, where did you buy that one?"
She smirked "I made it. It's my mom's recipe" she took a bite of it herself and nodded "I'll teach you how to make it."
"You just want to spend time with me" he teased.
She shoved him gently "you enjoy my company so shut up."
A small smile tugged at his lips "I do enjoy your company. You're an amazing woman, beautiful too" he took her hand and squeezed it "I'm glad you made your way into my life, even though I was a complete jackass to you."
She settled beside him and leaned up against the tree, her head resting against his shoulder "eh I've dealt with bigger assholes."
"I'm sure you have since you still want to spend more time with me. Plus you're going to be stuck with me for an entire day, Stephanie's wedding is three days away, are you ready for that?"
"why wouldn't I be?" she smirked "Trevor I am excited to spend time with you and rub it in Stephanie's face that she lost out on the opportunity to be with you."
"good luck with that, I can confirm that she does not give a shit. She's with Adam, who can walk, and do all of the other crap that I can't do." he scoffed "hey he could even get her pregnant."
"Will you shut up!" she said with a scowl "I don't give a shit about what Adam can give her. Just because he can walk does not make him more of a man"
He let out a breath "okay, I'll try to stop beating myself up, but only because I don't want to piss you off."
She pressed a kiss to his cheek and pulled away almost instantly. She wanted to kiss him but that would taking it a step too far and she didn't want to push things again. There was something stirring between them and both parties knew it, but voicing it was still a long time away.
Trevor watched as a soft blush creeped over Olivia's cheeks, she was beautiful and he noticed that she seemed like a teenager with a crush. It was cute and he was honored that she may have felt something toward him, because from his end he definitely took a liking to her. She was brilliant, gorgeous and funny and he would give anything to be with her but some things just couldn't happen. They were one of those things.
He reached up and brushed a piece of her hair out of her face "you're beautiful... But we can't."
"I know" she gave him a small smile "we would have way too many arguments because you get on my last nerve."
He let out a hearty laugh "and here I thought you were warming up to me."
"What gave you that impression?" she teased.
He pursed his lips "well you're going to be spending a lot of time with me over the next few weeks."
She nodded "yeah and then you're going to be stuck with me after Alex's wedding because she signed me in to be with you part time carer while she's on her honeymoon."
His face suddenly fell "when is her wedding?"
Olivia shrugged "it's a few months away, but we needn't worry about that right now"
"I take it you are going to be her maid of honor" he added with a hint of a smile.
She nodded "yes, she asked me as soon as they got engaged and of course I said yes because that's my best friend."
"You're a good friend Olivia" he pursed his lips "I don't think that I will forget meeting you. You will always be etched into my mind, in a good way, and I like that."
"Why are you being so sweet?" she raised an eyebrow.
"Because sometimes I appreciate the people in my life." he sassed.
She took a sip of her water bottle "I guess you have a point."
Trevor noticed someone walking toward them and scowled when he saw who it was "what are you doing here?" he asked in an icy tone.
Olivia looked up at the guy that approached them and gave him a small smile.
He smirked "Trevor I haven't seen you in forever, what are you doing out here?"
Trevor scoffed "what does it look like I'm doing Adam?"
He raised his hands in mock surrender "hey there's no need to be so up tight tough guy. Who's this pretty lady?"
Olivia smirked "Olivia Benson, and you must be Stephanie's fiance. It'll be an honor to meet her at your wedding."
He frowned "oh you two are coming together?"
Trevor nodded "yeah, you look surprised. Did you expect me to come alone?"
"No, it's just that, I didn't think the chair was really a thing that anybody was into. Guess I was wrong." he said with a shrug.
Olivia scoffed, feeling the urge to knock his teeth out. This was the reason it was so hard for Trevor to get out of his rut because he was surrounded by assholes that were pushing him down.
"Yeah, you were wrong." she said with a scowl.
Adam smirked before winking at her "Well if you ever get tired of having to push your boyfriend around, you can come over to me and I'll hook you up with somebody who actually knows how to use their legs."
Trevor had a frown ecthed into his forehead and his fists were balled up tightly "I find it assuming that you never had the balls to talk like that before I ended up in the chair."
"You're a dick" Olivia pipped up "and quit frankly I'd rather eat dog shit than to ever hook up with you or any of your friends."
He scowled "you two are perfect for each other, both bitter."
Olivia scoffed before laughing "no that would be you and Stephanie, aren't you both cheaters? Didn't both of you screw each while dating each others bestfriends? You're disgusting. You're more of a pig than a man."
