Amane and Nene were desperate at this point. It would be an understatement to say they were stressed the fuck out with their new predicament.
It started off when they decided to accept the offer for some vacation time. They hadn't had time for themselves due to their baby girl being born so they wanted to take a weekend off and leave her at the hands of capable people that won't harm her in any way, shape, or form.
Unfortunately, the babysitter had to cancel on them last minute and now their flight will leave in less than 3 hours and they still don't have anyone to look after baby Hikari.
Yes, that was her name, Yugi Hikari, their pride and joy.
They weren't going to leave her with just anyone mind you! It had to be a trained professional with years of experience and not a potential child kidnapper!
"Amane we have to do something." Nene cradled Hikari to sleep as they panicked trying to make calls.
"I'm trying, I'm trying!" He couldn't find anyone in his contacts that he trusted with his child to be available or… reliable…
In the end, they had no choice… they had to call Tsukasa.
The thing about Tsukasa is that he's anything but reliable. He definitely had no experience and definitely doesn't know how to handle a baby. But they were desperate for a break and for someone they can at least trust to an extent to look after her.
And so Tsukasa was stuck being a babysitter for a whole 3 days. Hikari was his favorite niece, only niece, but she was his favorite. The bundle of joy that gave everyone life just by seeing her smile. She had Nene's hair and Amane's eyes.
She was perfect!
"And the emergency contact numbers are on the fridge."
"Yes, Amane."
"And any emergency money is in the piggy bank."
"Yes, Amane."
"And you know she's not supposed to sleep late or have any sweets, right?"
Tsukasa sighed as he pushed his brother out the door. "Yes Amane, I know." He managed to finally get his worrywart of a brother outside. "Enjoy your vacation, Hikari will be fine."
"Okay but-"
"Bye!" He immediately closed the door and sighed in relief. His brother and Nene just can't seem to step away from their child. Granted she just turned 1(year old) last month and it's their first child so being attached to her this much must be normal.
She was in her crib sleeping peacefully like the angel she was. He watched her as she took steady breaths, her chest rising up and down.
His niece was adorable.
He liked babies.
They were cute.
He knew his brother and Nene didn't trust him with baby Hikari but this will definitely prove to them that he's a reliable and responsible adult and that knew how to take care of a baby-
He froze when small amber eyes were staring back at him. Hikari was wide awake now, she immediately smiled and had her arms up wanting to be carried.
He felt an arrow go through his heart. His niece was so cute!
He carried her in his arms and cradled her like how Nene had shown him when she was a few months old. How time flies, it felt like yesterday when he was working at his job and got a call from Amane that Nene was expecting.
You bet he dropped everything, after asking old lady Rika for permission of course, and went to go see his brother who was having a freak out session in the middle of a college campus.
And now here they were, completely tired and needed a vacation, which was kindly booked by Kou and Mitsuba. They protested but eventually were convinced to just go and that Hikari would be fine.
And she will be!
Nothing absolutely nothing can possibly go wrong because he's going to make sure nothing happens to this baby even if it's the last thing he does-
He fell asleep not long after.
When he woke up the next day he frantically searched for Hikari on her crib, she wasn't there at all. He was about to panic until a small giggle caught his attention. He looked behind the sofa and realized Hikari was playing with her toy blocks. He sighed in relief and quickly got up to change and prepare her bottle.
He looked at the list of things Amane wanted him to do which included cleaning the house, washing clothes, dishes, and even go out shopping. He would have groaned but he was getting paid apparently. That and seeing baby Hikari was payment enough anyway. He'll take the money though for having to do their chores.
He ate, gave Hikari her bottle, and proceeded to be a housewife for the rest of the day. It was tiring honestly and he felt bad for Nene who did most of the work. He crossed out all the things he needed to do from the list and eventually was left with needing to go shopping. He felt exhausted but he figured he might as well get it over with.
As he got ready to go out he got a text from Amane.
From Amane:
Hey, how are you two doing?
Tsukasa rolled his eyes as he texted him back.
To Amane:
From Tsukasa:
We're fine Amane!
You're supposed to be relaxing
He sighed and grabbed his car keys, money, and baby Hikari and left the apartment.
On his way to the store he put on baby tunes for Hikari that were honestly boring as hell but Amane kept telling him how important it was she listens to her tunes or she gets fussy in the car. She seemed fine to him, she would barely even react to the songs. He took this as Amane exaggerating and turned them off.
As soon as he did Hikari started wailing loudly which almost made him lose control of the car. He quickly turned them back on and she immediately went back to normal. He just stared at her not even bothering to look at the road.
The fuck.
She looked up at him innocently as if she didn't almost cause them to crash with her sudden shrieks.
Amane really wasn't exaggerating that this baby really gets fussy for not having her tunes. She doesn't even cry like a normal baby. She sounded like a banshee.
Eventually, they made it to the store without any other incidents.
He put Hikari in the shopping cart and looked at the list of things he needed to buy. Hikari kept wanting to reach out for things but he prevented it. Didn't want unwanted items he probably won't be able to afford in the cart.
He got the standard items.
Milk
Eggs
Juice
Bacon
One by one they went in the cart. He looked up and saw Hikari cheerfully looking at him. He smiled and looked at the list again, once he double-checked he placed the list back in his pocket and began to push the cart only to see Hikari was gone.
How!?
He looked away for 5 fucking seconds!!!???
"HIKARI!?" He yelled out as he frantically looked around.
He lost his niece.
Fuck.
