Prologue: Introduction

The Dark type glided through the school, trying to figure her best way out. The place gave her the creeps, but she wasn't going to say anything for fear of attracting the wrong sort of attention. Her dad had sent her here to give her a better education, but the atmosphere was almost suffocating and not in the way schools usually were.

"Skyla, what are you doing?" Her sister asked, taking her hand in her own, speaking with that soft voice she usually did.

"Looking to leave, Destiny. You and me both."

"We can't leave. Mom and dad want us to be here."

"There's something about this place that makes me nervous."

"Oh, the Ninten Dominic High School isn't that bad." That smile always comforted Skyla, but this time it was odd. "I promise you'll be better if you just try to do a good job."

"You say that, but I don't see it actually working. Something here's off, I can feel it."

"I guess you can just keep that feeling," Destiny shrugged. "I guess you're never wrong about that stuff."

"This building and the entire surrounding land is weird," Skyla said. "A crazy mountain town with no way to call home. It's like we're stranded."

"Dad said this place was full of crazy monsters once. Maybe that's what is giving you the creeps."

"I can sense all sorts of dreams though. Strange ones."

"Well, that could just be a result of your losing sleep. You tend to read more dreams if you don't get sleep of your own."

"I can't sleep because this place is keeping me up. I don't particularly care for haunted places from old stories."

"Well, dad told me that there's no way anything could hurt us from those old stories. They're dead and have been for thousands of years."

"Not completely comforting. Things tend to wake up at some point."

"Well, that just means you were the one who stayed up and watched all those scary movies last night with Flare."

"Well, I was bored."

"Well, you two will just scare yourselves silly," Destiny giggled. "Now, why isn't Flare here?"

"She said she had to do some stupid training with her mom."

"Well, that just means the two of us will have some fun here without her until she gets here."

"I guess you're right. Well, I would like to get something from the vending machine down the hall before we have to check into our dorms."

"Alright," Destiny nodded. The twins walked to the large vending machines and Skyla scanned the options of what she could buy. Settling on a chocolate bar and a Dark Soda Pop, she paid her 30 Poké and retrieved her drink and food. Destiny got herself a Psychic Fizzy Pop and a different type of chocolate bar. Satisfied, the two walked back to the dorm they were sharing.

"So, what's the first thing you're going to do on our next holiday?" Destiny asked. "Hang out with whatever friends you and I make or go home?"

"Go home," Skyla said. "I want to leave this place as soon as possible. It gives me the creeps, remember?"

"Oh, that's right," Destiny nodded as she opened her drink. "Well, we'd have to be careful not to anger anyone in charge. Otherwise we'd have a problem on our hands."

"They might not let us go home?" Skyla asked.

"It's a possibility."

"I doubt it. They can't do that. There's rights violations, right?"

"This isn't Sinnoh. Heck, this isn't even our part of the world. There's no telling what they'd do."

"Well, I guess later, we'll have to find some of the other people to hang out with, actually get some friends here. No offense, but I do like to have friends outside of my sister and my cousin."

"Oh, I get it… But, there's something we need to do first."

"What?"

"Did you fill out that application they wanted us to fill out when we got here?"

"No," Skyla leaned forward as she sat on her bed. "Why? Is there something off about it?"

"Well…" Destiny opened the handbook they were given, pointing to the application. "This part here mentions something about a type of blood condition. There's all kinds here, but this one is odd."

"What is it?"

"Pokérus."

"What's that?"

"It's a disease that affects the mind of Pokémon, which is us. It makes them berserk, crazy powerful monsters. It's said this organization called Cipher was experimenting with Pokérus back when our parents were younger."

"Well, I guess they don't want to take chances," Skyla had to shrug, no idea coming to her.

"Just… just be careful around the school, alright? We'll not get too many chances if we're not careful."

"I'm always careful."

"I'm sure," The sarcasm was dripping from that, along with the eye roll form Destiny. Skyla stuck her tongue out, lounging on her bed.

"So, when do classes actually start?" She asked.

"In a week," Destiny said. "But, we might have to go to an orientation or something before that."

"Well, I'll skip that crap," Skyla rolled her eyes. "Forget going to that lame stuff."

"You might need to go to understand how the school works so you don't get into trouble."

"I'll worry about it later. This isn't Danganronpa. The windows and doors didn't lock when we got in and we've got pretty good access to the whole town from here."

"Well, we should still be careful. There are sites that might be sacred to the people living on this island."

"Of course, I'll be careful. But, chill now, explore later."

With that, Skyla laid down on her bed, hands behind her head. She sighed in boredom, looking over at her sister, but ultimately deciding to just rest for a bit. Who knows, something interesting might happen when she woke up. She needed to be rested and ready to enjoy herself at a moment's notice so that she didn't miss out on an opportunity to distract her from this place.

In another kingdom

The princess looked around, her companion watching her from under the large, red and white hat that was always atop that ghostly head.

"How does this outfit look?" The princess spread her arms wide, showing off the dark blue overalls and green shirt she wore. "You think it makes me look badass?"

"I-I don't wish to answer that," Her companion's blush turned a slightly deeper shade of pink, skin beginning to turn a bit purple as the Shadow Siren melted into the shadow.

"I don't look that bad or hot," The princess rolled her eyes. "You're just overreacting."

"It's still too scary," From the shadows squeaked Vivian's reply.

"Just get out of there," The princess said as Vivian reemerged, sitting down on the bed in the princess' room, legs dangling over the side and kicking slightly.

"And, stop looking down at the floor. You won't be able to tell me how I look. I'm not vain, but I can't see every inch of me."

"J-Just so pretty," Vivian glanced up.

"You'll get as tall as me one day. You just gotta believe it."

"Mother says I've hit my full height."

"She only says that to scare you. You're like five years younger than me. You've still got time."

"Th-Three, actually."

"Whatever, I didn't pay attention in math anyway. But, apparently, mom wants me to go to this special school or something to show off my gifts or whatever. But, I don't really wanna do that, so I'm just gonna goof off or cause mischief like mom says isn't the reason I'm going."

"That doesn't seem much unlike you." Vivian giggled softly, pulling down the floppy hat to hide from Lucinda.

"Geez, you're at least a teenager now." Lucinda yanked off the hat, wild and swirly-curled purple hair reaching Vivian's shoulders. "Act like one. Big strong Shadow Sirens don't hide under their hats. Look at Beldam and Marilyn. They don't hide under their hats."

"Th-They're really mean," Vivian looked down as Lucinda replaced the hat. "They make fun of me a lot."

"Well, they're just jealous," A shrug from Lucinda brought a glance of confusion from the Shadow Siren. "You're way more powerful than them and they know it, especially Beldam."

"R-Really?"

"Of course. Once your magic comes in, you'll be way more powerful than them. You'd beat them in a second."

"Th-Thanks, Lucinda." Vivian grinned at this, a new surge of confidence brimming. The youngest of the Shadow Sirens melted into the shadows as Lucinda finished her packing. It was only a small amount as compared to the duration of her stay, but it wasn't like she wouldn't be able to wash it. She tossed them into her suitcase, closing it and heading to the airship that was to take her to the school.

Six hours later

Lucinda woke up from her little power nap to see she had arrived at the school. The large, ominous sign reading 'Ninten Dominic High School' certainly didn't help Lucinda actually want to stay. The city surrounding the school seemed like it would be a strange place as well. But, she walked carefully to the registration desk, signing her name and being given her room key. Using this, she entered the room, which had two beds.

Lucinda didn't really want a roommate, but she supposed if she couldn't fight it, she would put up with it.

As she began to unpack her suitcase, she thought she saw it move, but ignored it, leaving it to her jitters. She set down on the bed, looking at the box her mother had given her and she'd placed in her suitcase.

"To be used when you need it most" was the message she'd left, but Lucinda couldn't make heads or tails of it. She supposed she could work on that later, but for right now, she was just going to chill out.

Her suitcase shuddered again. Lucinda grabbed the box, moving it out of the way. She jumped as she saw a shadowy head poked out from it.

"Vivian!?" Lucinda exclaimed, shocked to see her companion. "What are you doing here?!"

"I-I followed you by hiding in here," Vivian began to sniffle, hat being pulled down to hide the timid face that didn't want to look at the princess.

"I can tell," Lucinda grabbed the Shadow Siren, pulling and holding the diminutive Vivian close. "Look, I'm not mad, but you can't just do that. Now, you're stuck here until mom or dad comes back."

"I-I'm sorry," Vivian wrapped a pair of short arms around Lucinda, who sighed.

"I suppose you could pretend to be old enough. How good at math and stuff are you?"

"M-Mother says I'm exceptional at it. I-I think I can manage."

"I hope so, because you'll have to blend in if you want to stay."

"I-I think I can do that. P-Please don't tell on me."

"I think they'll figure it out sooner or later. But, don't worry. I'll keep you company and safe, alright, squirt?"

"O-Okay." Vivian smiled, snuggling up into the princess' grip. Lucinda ran a hand through Vivian's hair under the oversized hat the Shadow Siren always wore, a small smile at the contented sighs making her feel softer.

She didn't want to have to keep an eye on Vivian here, but she supposed it couldn't be helped at this point. She had to make sure the fledgling Shadow Siren didn't get hurt. It wouldn't be an easy task to do, but she was sure she could do it.

Hopefully sleeping in the same room as Vivian wouldn't be so bad… though, Vivian would most likely want to sleep in her bed, and she couldn't always say no to that face, so she most likely would be sharing a bed.

She shrugged, deciding to just go with it. But, first, she would need to explain this to someone. But… she didn't want to move and disturb Vivian, so she would just stay like this for a while… wouldn't hurt, would it?

So, this is a short prologue to what I like to think as the most ambitious crossover I've ever endeavored. In addition to Mario and Pokemon, I plan to add Metroid and even RWBY in some ways. I just hope I can do it well enough to be enjoyed. The real chapters are going to be longer, I just wanted a short blurb to introduce two of the main characters. Let me know what you think and any suggestions.

The reason I wanted to try this was because I had read the Legendary Pokemon summaries from Cataclyptic on Deviantart. His fic inspired me to write my own first fic, Pokemon Azure Light and I sort of wanted to get back to my roots and write a fic like that again, but bigger.
