Goodbye
Note: This will be Mary Jane's final appearance in this story. But she may yet make another appearance sometime in the future, who knows. But I hope that you enjoy this story, thank you.
In present day New York, Mary Jane is at the gym all dressed in workout clothes as she's working out on her body, keeping it in shape as she is joined by Betty Brant, a friend of Peter Parker who is also wearing workout clothes.
"Hey Mary Jane." Betty greeted.
"Hi Betty, came to get a workout?" Mary Jane said.
"Of course, gotta maintain my figure." Betty said.
"So how are things with you and Ned?" Mary Jane said.
"Things were doing great but I get the feeling that Ned has been keeping his distance from me lately." Betty said.
"Why do you say that?" Mary Jane said.
"He hasn't been coming by my place lately and every time I call him, he says that he's busy with work." Betty said.
"Maybe that could be it. Trust me, work can sometimes get in the way of our relationships." Mary Jane said.
"Perhaps, but I get the feeling that it's more than that." Betty said.
"What do you mean?" Mary Jane said.
"I'm a reporter, I have this instinct of sniffing out a story." Betty said.
"I hope not." Mary Jane said.
"Excuse me." Betty said.
Mary Jane hopes that instinct doesn't find out that Peter is Spider-Man.
"Nothing... so what does you instinct tell you?" Mary Jane said.
"I think that Ned might be suspicious about me and Peter." Betty said.
"You and Peter?" Mary Jane said.
"You know, that moment we both shared at one time, I'm sure that Peter already told you." Betty said.
Mary Jane knows about that time that Peter was under the influence of the symbiote and he and Betty had sex at one time.
"Oh that!" Mary Jane said.
"Yeah. Sorry if I brought it up." Betty said.
"Don't worry, I'm not angry... anymore. But why do you say that." Mary Jane said.
"Every time Ned keeps asking me about my relationship with Peter I told him that he and I are friends." Betty said.
"But you think that he figured out there was something between you two." Mary Jane said.
"I don't know, but I feel bad for lying to him." Betty said.
"Hey, that happened before you and Ned ever got together. I know that at first I wasn't happy to hear that Peter and you had sex, but he wasn't exactly cheating because he and I were already broken up." Mary Jane said.
"So how do you deal with it?" Betty said.
"Well... it wasn't easy but I eventually came to forgive him because I love him. Truth is I never stopped loving him. I tried to remain friends with him and just get over what we had, but I can't." Mary Jane said.
"He never could stop loving you, even after he and I got together. You're the love of his life." Betty said.
"I am and he's the love of mine." Mary Jane said.
"You're lucky to have someone as Peter Parker as your boyfriend. Sometimes I wished I could've been that person." Betty said.
"Peter does love you in his own way. I think that he slept with you because at some level, deep down he felt attracted to you." Mary Jane said.
"What is it about us that attracts us to the same guy?" Betty said.
"Don't know, I've been trying to figure that out these past years." Mary Jane smiled.
"Boys!" Betty smiled.
"Amen." Mary Jane smiled.
Mary Jane and Betty smiled and giggle as they joke about their relationship with Peter. Mary Janes phone rang as she answered it.
"Mary Jane Watson, fabulous supermodel." Mary Jane said.
"Hi Ms. Watson, this is the studio calling, we were wondering if you're available to meet with the director."
"I'm on my free day, so I'm available." Mary Jane said.
"Great, see you soon."
Mary Jane hangs up as she got the call from the studio that she went to audition last month. She wonders what this is about.
Peter is back at the apartment as he is reaching the Army base in Symkaria, he's contacting Flash Thompson who's been over there for almost a year since he got deployed last year. He got a reply as the live video of Flash Thompson is on.
"Hey Flash, it's been a while." Peter said.
"Parker, hope that you and everyone else hasn't been having too much fun while I was away." Flash smiled.
"Well it hasn't been the same without you. How are things over there?" Peter said.
"We've managed to liberate another town from Karkov's grip, even the princess herself is joining the fight against the separatist movement." Flash said.
"The princess is fighting?" Peter said.
"Yeah, she and her new team are helping turning the tide. With any luck this war will soon be over, can't wait to get home and sees everyone." Flash said.
"Yeah, I'm sure the ladies will welcome you back with open arms." Peter smiled.
"You think Mary Jane will be there, are you two still together?" Flash said.
"Yeah, we are. I'm the luckiest guy there is and I've got the greatest girlfriend there ever is." Peter smiled said
"Yeah, she's hot." Flash smiled.
Peter gave Flash the look as he said those words about Mary Jane.
"What? It's a complement. The boys over here have magazines and internet. Most of them are into models, particularly Mary Jane. Listen I gotta go, I'm about to go out on a mission." Flash said.
"Okay... take care Flash!" Peter said.
"Will do!" Flash hangs up.
Flash cuts off the live feed as he's already on a mission. Peter smiled as he sure is lucky to have a great girlfriend like Mary Jane. She's the best part of his life, she completes him.
Mary Jane got called to the studio where she audition for the role of Natasha Romanoff in the new Black Widow movie.
"The director will see you now."
Mary Jane enters the office and meets up with a female director.
"Ms. Watson, thank you coming."
"My pleasure. So you care to tell me what this is about?" Mary Jane said.
"I'll cut right to it. The studio has reviewed your audition tape and we've decided that we want you to play as the new Black Widow."
Mary Jane is surprised that the studio wants her to play as Black Widow for the new movie.
"Me? You want me?" Mary Jane said.
"Of course, your performance as Black Widow is spectacular. You're the perfect choice."
"That's amazing, thank you!" Mary Jane smiled.
"We just need you to say the word and we'll start production in Hollywood."
"Hollywood?" Mary Jane said.
"Yeah, that's where we'll start production of the movie, we'll also will be filming in several locations."
"I had no idea that I'll be leaving New York to shoot a movie. Can I think about it?" Mary Jane said.
"Are you sure that you want to think it over? Because if you're not up to it, then tell us and we'll find someone else to play the role."
"I'll need some time to think this through before I come to a decision." Mary Jane said.
"Okay, we'll give you three days, if you say no or you don't have an answer before the deadline ends, then we'll take that as a no. Please think it over, this offer won't last forever."
"I understand, thank you," Mary Jane said.
Mary Jane left the office as she began to feel conflicted about her decision. If she takes the job, she'll have to be away from New York, away from Peter. But this is a once in a lifetime opportunity that she wanted since she was a little girl, it's her passion, her dream. She needs to think about her future, her future as an actress or her future with Peter.
Betty is back at the office after she got out of the gym. She sat at her desk and thinks about what she talked about with Mary Jane about Peter. She closes her eyes and remembers the day that she and Peter slept together.
Flashback
One year ago
Peter came by Betty's apartment and checks up on her and sees that she's in her bra and jeans. He came inside her room and surprised her.
"Peter! What are you doing?" Betty said.
Peter got closer to Betty and sees her lovely form.
"What are you doing?" Betty said.
"Something we both need." Peter said.
Peter pulled Betty in and kisses her, she got surprised but she didn't resist. They broke off as Betty is confused as to what's happening.
"Why did you do that?" Betty said.
"Honestly, I have no idea." Peter said.
Peter and Betty got back to kissing one another as they start to remove their clothes and hug each other half naked.
Later Peter and Betty are in the bed having intercourse, Peter kisses her collarbone, then her neck as he looked at her face.
"Should I stop?" Peter said.
"No. Keep going." Betty smiled.
Peter and Betty got back to intercourse as Betty is enjoying the moment she and Peter are having together.
Betty still has her eyes close as she smiles and remembers the good time she and Peter had. Glory came by and sees Betty smiling with her eyes closed.
"Betty? Betty!" Glory said.
Betty woke up and sees Glory Grant.
"Glory?" Betty said.
"What happened? You looked like you were having a sex dream." Glory smiles.
"Oh... uh. No, I was resting my eyes." Betty said.
"Okay, if you say so." Glory said.
"Hey Glory, have you seen Ned lately?" Betty said.
"Yeah, he was here but he left early before you arrived." Glory said.
"I see, thanks." Betty said.
Glory walked away as Betty began to wonder about Ned's strange behavior and his need to avoid her. She decided to leave her desk and go to Ned's apartment to check on him.
Mary Jane is visiting Aunt Anna at her house in Queens as she's still quiet about her decision about taking the role and going to Hollywood to pursue her acting career.
"Mary Jane? Mary Jane!" Anna said.
"Oh, sorry Aunt Anna. I had things on my mind." Mary Jane said.
"What going on? You look like the end of the world is near." Anna said.
"Something like that." Mary Jane said.
"What is it, dear?" Anna said.
"Okay... remember that role for the new Black Widow movie I auditioned for?" Mary Jane said.
"Yeah... Oh! Don't tell me that you lost it." Anna said.
"Oh no, I've got it actually." Mary Jane said.
"You did? That's great, I'm proud of you." Anna smiled.
"Yeah." Mary Jane not looking too happy.
"You're not happy about it?" Anna said.
"Don't get me wrong, I wanted that role since it's a step towards my acting career." Mary Jane said.
"But?" Anna said.
"But if I take it, then I'll have to move and be far away from Peter." Mary Jane said.
"So you're think about whether to go or stay." Anna said.
"This is a great opportunity that comes once in a lifetime but if I take it, then I might not see Peter again." Mary Jane said.
"Mary Jane, tell the truth. Are you thinking about turning down the role just to stay with Peter?" Anna said.
"Aunt Anna, I love Peter, he's the love of my life. I don't know who I would be if Peter isn't a part of my life. I don't want to lose him for anything." Mary Jane said.
"Mary Jane, your mother wanted to be an actress when she was about your age." Anna said.
"I know." Mary Jane said.
"Your mother gave up her dreams to marry your father, I'm not saying that their relationship was all bad because their love brought you into this world, but she sacrificed her dreams and lived unhappy life with my brother. I don't want you to make that same mistake." Anna said.
"Are you saying that me and Peter are wrong for each other?" Mary Jane said.
"No, I never said that, but this is your dream, your passion. Please don't throw it away for love." Anna said.
"Look, I appreciate that you want what's best for me but Peter is my life. I won't give him up because I chose to pursue my passion, I won't." Mary Jane said.
"Mary Jane..." Anna said.
"I should go." Mary Jane said.
Mary Jane left the house as Anna Watson is getting worried that Mary Jane might be heading down the wrong path like her mother did once. She remembers that Madeline married Philip and had a daughter. Their relationship eventually took a toll for the worse as Philip began to be abusive to his family. Madeline sacrificed her dreams to live a unhappy life with her husband. Anna doesn't want Mary Jane to live that same hell her mother did.
Gwen is in her room doing her homework until she stumped upon a corsage and a photo that her dad took of her and Peter. She smiles as she remembers that time that Gwen and Peter went to prom. She knows that Peter still has a girlfriend and that there can be nothing between them but friendship but her feelings for Peter is still there. As much as she tries to deny it, she's still in love with Peter.
The door knocked as her dad came by to check on Gwen.
"Gwennie, May I come in?" George Stacy said.
"Sure." Gwen said.
George enters the room and sees Gwen working.
"I was just doing my homework." Gwen said.
"I know, but I get the sense that there's something else going on." George Stacy said.
"Meaning?" Gwen said.
"I noticed that you've acted different since that night at prom." George Stacy said l.
"Is it that obvious?" Gwen said.
"You still have feelings for Peter, don't you?" George Stacy said.
"Yes... I tried to see him as a friend and remembers that he is still Mary Jane's boyfriend, but my feelings for him are still there. I still love him." Gwen said.
"Gwen, I'm sorry that you're dealing with so much feelings. But you know that sometimes life can make unexpected turn for better or worse. Me and your mother didn't get together at first sight." George Stacy said.
"So you and mom weren't even together back then." Gwen said.
"Helen was quite a beauty when I first saw her, but she was dating someone else back then and I couldn't help but feel jealous. Believe me, it wasn't easy watching someone you love in the arms of someone else." George Stacy said.
"So how did you and mom get together?" Gwen said.
"She had just broken up and I've worked up the courage to ask her out." George Stacy said.
"And did she?" Gwen said.
"Not a first, I've made a few attempts to ask her until one day she gave me a chance and we've dated. She came to realize that I was the one she wanted to be with. We moved in together for a few years until the day we got married. Then we wanted to start a family, one day we had you, our pride and joy." George Stacy said.
"That's quite a lovely story. I'm glad that you and mom had a life full of happiness. I'm lucky to have you both as parents." Gwen said.
"And we're lucky to have you as our daughter. Listen, I know that one day you'll find someone who you'll want to spend the rest of you me life with, whether it's Peter or someone else. You'll find someone who can make you whole, make you happy." George Stacy said.
"Thanks dad." Gwen smiled.
Gwen and George hugged each other as they finished saying what needed to be said.
Betty went over to Ned's apartment and knocked on his door. It opened as she sees Ned.
"Betty?" Ned Leeds said l.
"Ned, finally, I was wondering if I was ever going to see you." Betty said.
"Look Betty, now is not a good time." Ned Leeds said.
"Then when is it going to be a good time. Lately I haven't heard from you and I hardly seen you at work. So tell me... what's going on?" Betty said.
"Fine... What's your relationship with Peter Parker?" Ned Leeds said.
"Peter? What does he have to do with this?" Betty said.
"Please answer the question?" Ned Leeds said.
"He and I are great friends, we've known each other since the first day he worked for the Bugle." Betty said.
"Is that all?" Ned Leeds said.
"Where are you going with this?" Betty said.
"I've seen you and Peter hugged one another, the way you looked at each other. You two were more than friends, weren't you?" Ned Leeds said.
"Ned..." Betty said.
"Please Betty, I love you but I can't handle anymore lies." Ned Leeds said.
"Okay... Yes, something happened between me and Peter." Betty said.
Ned is listening as Betty is about to reveal the truth that she kept from Ned about Peter.
"Peter and I... we've... we slept together." Betty said.
Ned is shocked to hear that the woman he loves had slept with Peter Parker.
"It happened once by surprise, we were alone at my apartment until he made his move... and I gave in." Betty teared a bit. "You want to know something... I enjoyed it... I really enjoyed it, he gave me the best night of my life."
Betty told Ned everything about her relationship with Peter. Ned couldn't take what he's hearing.
"No... no... I don't believe this! I asked you once if there was something between you and Peter and you said there wasn't." Ned Leeds said.
"Ned, it happened last year and it happened only once. That's in the past, I've moved on and so did he." Betty said.
"And yet you still remained friends with him, you're still close to him. Every time you look at him, you'll never forget what you two have. Because when you see him, you're reminded of that night you both spent together." Ned Leeds said.
"So what do you want me to do? Stop being friends with him? Is that it?" Betty said.
"No, but I think it's best that we keep our distance from each other." Ned Leeds said.
"Ned..." Betty said.
"Betty!... just go!" Ned Leeds said.
Betty picked up her purse and left the apartment as Ned is left very disappointed as he learned that Betty and Peter once got involved with one another.
Spider-Man arrived back at the apartment and sees that no one is here. He took off his mask and his suit.
"Honey! I'm home!" Peter said.
The apartment is quiet as he changes into regular clothes.
"Guessing she's not home, must be busy with work or something." Peter said.
The doorbell rang as Peter went to the door and opened it, he sees Anna Watson.
"Anna Watson? If you're here to see Mary Jane, she's not home yet." Peter said.
"I already seen her, but I'm here to see you." Anna said.
"Me? Why?" Peter said.
"May I come in?" Anna said.
"Yeah, sure." Peter invite her in.
Anna enters Mary Jane's apartment and sits down on the chair.
"Want some coffee or water?" Peter said.
"Thank you, no. Please sit down." Anna said.
Peter sat down on the chair and listens to what Anna Watson.
"So did you hear from Mary Jane?" Anna said.
"About what?" Peter said.
"You don't know?" Anna said.
"Know what?" Peter said.
"She hasn't told you yet, but she got the role for the new Black Widow movie." Anna said.
"She did? That's great." Peter smiled.
"Yeah, it's great." Anna said.
"So what's wrong?" Peter said.
"Mary Jane is thinking about turning down the role." Anna said.
"What? Why?" Peter said.
"Because she doesn't want to lose you. She knows that if she takes it, she'll move away from New York, away from you." Anna said.
"So she's turning it down because of me?" Peter said.
"What she's doing is exactly the same thing her mother did when she was her age." Anna said.
"Yeah, I remember her story." Peter said.
"Madeline was a great woman, she had dreams, she wanted to be an actress, she loved it." Anna said.
"Sounds familiar." Peter smiled.
"Yeah, they're cut from the same cloth. Madeline gave up her dreams to marry my brother, eventually their relationship gave birth to Mary Jane which is great until their lives were turned upside down. My brother Philip couldn't make it as a writer and ended up taking his anger on his family. Madeline lived an unhappy life until the day she died." Anna said.
"That's... that's the saddest story I've ever heard." Peter said.
"I'm worried that Mary Jane is heading down that same path. She shouldn't have to give up her dreams for anyone. I know that she'll be happy being who she is." Anna said.
"Anna Watson, I'd never ask her to give up her dreams, not even for me." Peter said.
"Then talk to her, convince her to take the role, let her live out her life happy. If you really love her, then go with her and let her pursue her dreams." Anna said.
"I'll talk with her." Peter said.
"Thank you." Anna said.
Anna Watson got up and walked out the door. Peter couldn't believe that Mary Jane would give up her dreams for him, but he understands why. If she take it, then she'll be away pursuing her career away from him since he can't stop being Spider-Man. He doesn't want to lose her but he also doesn't want her to lose her dreams either. Their relationship is now at stake.
Meanwhile at F.E.A.S.T., May is still working to feed the homeless as Peter came by and sees May working.
"Hey Aunt May." Peter said.
"Peter, what are you doing here?" May said.
"I need some advice." Peter said.
"I'm almost finish with my shift. Can you wait and I'll meet you at my office." May said.
"Sure." Peter said.
Sometime later May finished his shift and meet with Peter in her office.
"So what do you need?" May said.
"Right now, I'm at a hard place in my relationship." Peter said.
"What do you mean? Are you and Mary Jane having trouble?" May said.
"Something like that, she got the role for the new movie and she's thinking about turning it down." Peter said.
"Why would she do that?" May said.
"Because if she takes it then she'll move to California to pursue her acting career, away from New York, away from me." Peter said.
"Oh Peter, I'm sorry." May said.
"I don't know what to do, I can't give up being Spider-Man, it's my responsibility, but I also don't want Mary Jane to lose her dreams either. I don't know what to do." Peter said.
"Peter, I'm sorry that this is happening to you both. You know that Anna and I wanted you and Mary Jane to be together since you're both little. We were so happy that you two love each other. This life you've lived by, I never wanted that for you. I always wished that you would graduate college and become a scientist, but life gave you another path to live by, a life of responsibility, the life of a hero." May said.
"Everything changed for me ever since that spider bit me. When I became Spider-Man, my life was never the same. Me and Mary Jane got together in high school until my life as Spider-Man started to affect our relationship because of all the secrets. We were able to find each other again after I told her my secret. I thought that being Spider-Man would never get in the way of our relationship again, until now." Peter said.
"Peter... I don't want you and Mary Jane to lose something precious because of your life but she's meant for more than the life you're living." May said.
"So you're saying that we're should break up?" Peter said.
"Sometimes the hardest part of loving someone so much is to let them go. I've loved your uncle for so long that it was hard for me to let him go after he died. But I realize that the only way to move on is to let him go and live my life. Peter, do you love Mary Jane?" May said.
"I love her so much, she's the love of my life." Peter said.
"Then let her go and purse her dreams, that way she'll be happy. She deserves that." May said.
"Without me." Peter said.
"Peter, I wished that you would give up this life and live the life that you and Mary Jane both deserve." May said.
"But you know that I can't. This is who I am, I need to stay true to myself." Peter said.
"Then you'll have to let her go... let her be free." May said.
Peter cried a little as May hugs him as Peter doesn't want to lose Mary Jane, but he loves her so much that he wants her to be happy.
Peter arrived back at apartment and sees that Mary Jane is already home.
"Hey Tiger." Mary Jane said.
"Hi." Peter smiled.
Mary Jane could tell that there's something going on with Peter.
"Peter, what's wrong?" Mary Jane said.
"Why didn't you tell me that you got the role?" Peter said.
"You know... guessing Aunt Anna told you." Mary Jane said.
"She did, she also said that you're considering turning it down. Why? This is dream, why would you give it up?" Peter said.
"Because I might lose you if I do. You're the love of my life." Mary Jane said.
"And you're the love of mine, Mary Jane. You came into my life as my best friend since childhood, then we got together in high school. We gave our first time together one night. I don't want to lose that, don't want to lose you." Peter said.
"I don't want to lose you either, Tiger." Mary Jane said.
"But you're meant for more than this, you're going places, you can make a difference being who you are. Right now, I'm in the way." Peter said.
"Peter... what are you saying?" Mary Jane said.
"Take the role, go to Hollywood, live your dreams, be free." Peter said.
"Do you realize what you're saying?" Mary Jane said.
"I love you so much that I want you to be happy... without me." Peter said.
"So this is it?" Mary Jane said.
"This is it. We had a great time together, it was wonderful. You made me feel more alive, you gave me love." Peter said.
"You gave me love too... are you sure this is what you want?" Mary Jane said.
"Yes... I want you to be happy. Stay true to yourself, it's who you are." Peter said.
"Okay... then I'll take the role." Mary Jane said.
"You deserve so much more in life." Peter said.
"So do you." Mary Jane said.
Peter and Mary Jane hugged one another as they decided to end their relationship. Tears flow down their eyes as they decide to let each other go.
"I should go, got work to do." Peter said.
"Yeah." Mary Jane said.
Peter is about to walk out the door until Mary Jane spoke up.
"Peter!" Mary Jane said.
Peter stopped and turned around to look at Mary Jane.
"I love you." Mary Jane said.
"I love you too." Peter said.
Peter walked out the door, leaving Mary Jane alone as she pulls out her phone and dialed the studio.
"Hello?"
"Yes, this Mary Jane Watson, tell them that I accept." Mary Jane said.
"Excellent, we'll arrange for a flight to Los Angeles soon enough. Thank you for your decision."
Mary Jane hangs up as she told them that she accepted the role.
At the apartment of George Stacy, the door knocked as George opens it and sees Mary Jane here.
"Mary Jane?" George Stacy said.
"Hi, is your daughter here?" Mary Jane said.
"Yeah, come on in." George then calls. "Gwen! You got company!"
Gwen came out of her bedroom and sees Mary Jane is here.
"Mary Jane, what are you doing here?" Gwen said.
"Sorry if this is a bad time but could we talk?" Mary Jane said.
Later Gwen and Mary Jane are alone in the bedroom.
"So what do you want to talk about?" Gwen said.
"I wanted to tell you that I'm leaving." Mary Jane said.
"Going where?" Gwen said.
"I accepted a role for the new Black Widow movie and I'll be staring as Natasha Romanoff." Mary Jane said.
"Wow! That's great." Gwen smiled.
"Yeah, me and Peter are breaking up." Mary Jane said.
Gwen is surprised to hear that the love of Peter's life is breaking up with him.
"What? Why? Don't you love him?" Gwen said.
"I still love him Gwen, but our lives are about to change whether we like it or not. He is who he is, a hero, I would never ask him to stop being himself. I would've given up anything for him, but he wouldn't allow it." Mary Jane said.
"I'm sorry, I really am. You two seem perfect for one another. You're the love of his life, his soulmate." Gwen said.
"Honestly... I don't know if my purpose in life is to be his soulmate. He is, or was, but I think that I came into his life to be his best friend, we loved each other throughout half our lives. He made me feel special, and I made him feel loved. I helped make him who he is, and he also helped me become a great person. I'm thankful to be in his life, I'll never forget the great times we've had together." Mary Jane said.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Gwen said.
"I don't want to lose him, but I guess deep down I always knew that at some point that this was inevitable. He and I have different lives, he's a scientist, a photographer, and a hero. I'm a model and an actress, it's who I am. He needs to stay true to himself and I must go out and seek my destiny, even if it's without him." Mary Jane said.
"I see. So why tell me this?" Gwen said.
"Because I know Peter, he came be strong and smart, but in reality... he needs you, whether he knows it or not. I need you to be at his side no matter what." Mary Jane said.
"I'll always be there for him, just like he's there for me. I'll stay by his side as his friend." Gwen said.
"That's nice... but I know that you want more than just friendship with him." Mary Jane smiled.
Gwen looked at Mary Jane as she smiles at her and figures out that she's know about her true feelings for Peter.
"You know?" Gwen said.
"I've always know." Mary Jane said.
"How?" Gwen said.
"You've been in love with Peter since you first came to Midtown High, when you first saw him, you looked like you had butterflies in your stomach." Mary Jane smiled.
"Since you know, it's true, I've been in love with Peter since the first day I've saw him. After he and Liz broke up, I wanted to tell him how I felt but then you and Peter were already together. So I decided not to say anything and respect your relationship." Gwen said.
"Gwen, I'm sorry, I never meant to get in between you and Peter." Mary Jane said.
"I know, but he still chose you in the end." Gwen said.
"Listen... I don't know if you're the one who's meant to be his true love, but he'll need you more than ever. Just be there for him, as his friend or as his girlfriend. Who know, maybe you can be the one?" Mary Jane said.
"You mean it?" Gwen said.
"Ever word. Trust me, you're quite a catch. Any guy who be lucky to have you as his girlfriend, even Peter. You just have to believe in yourself and maybe one day Peter might start falling for you." Mary Jane said.
"You really think so?" Gwen said.
"I know so. Trust me, you two would be perfect together." Mary Jane smiled.
"Thank you." Gwen smiled.
"For what?" Mary Jane smiled.
"For being my friend, in some ways you're like a sister I never had." Gwen said.
"Truth be told, I feel the same way for you." Mary Jane said.
Gwen and Mary Jane hugged each other.
At night at the Daily Bugle, Peter came by work as he runs into Glory Grant.
"Hey Glory, anything new?" Peter said.
"No, same old stuff as always." Glory said.
"I see. Where's Betty?" Peter said.
"She's went home early for the night. She and Ned are having problems." Glory said.
"What kind of problems?" Peter said.
"Things that aren't your business Parker!" Ned Leeds said.
Peter turns around and sees Ned Leeds not looking or happy.
"Hey, I'm just worried as a friend." Peter said.
"Sure, you two get alone so well since you're both friends with benefits." Ned Leeds said.
Peter is surprised to hear those words, as did everyone on the floor. Ned knows about Peter and Betty's brief time together.
"What? Cat got your tongue?" Ned Leeds said.
"Listen I don't have time for this, I already got enough to worry about. I'm gonna go check on Betty." Peter said.
"You mean comfort her by sleeping with her? Seems to be her habit, sleeping with coworkers." Ned Leeds said.
Pete stopped as Ned made an insult about Betty. He turned and punched Ned in the face. Ned fell down as everyone watched. Jameson came out of the office and sees the ruckus.
"Hey! What the hell is going on here?!" Jameson said.
Ned is looking up at Peter while still feeling the pain on his face that Peter gave him.
"I don't care what you say about me, but don't ever talk about Betty like that ever again. She deserves better than that, she deserves better than you." Peter finished.
Peter walked away as Ned is angry and jealous of Peter and his relationship with Betty.
"This isn't the end of this, Parker. You'll pay for this. Mark my words." Ned Leeds said in anger.
At the apartment of Betty Brant, Peter knocked on the door and sees Betty crying.
"Betty, what's wrong?" Peter said.
"Ned and I are through." Betty said.
"Betty, I'm sorry," Peter said.
Peter and Betty hugged each other as neither one of them are having a great day.
Next day in the morning, Mary Jane has already packed up her stuff and is at Anna Watson's house.
"I see that you're all ready." Anna said.
"Still can't believe that this is happening. I'm leaving behind everything that I love, my friends, my family, and the man I love." Mary Jane said.
"I know, dear. Believe me, it's not easy for me to be away from you either. But I guess I knew that at some point of my life, that I would have to let you go and explore the world alone. Now look at you, all grown up and blossomed into a magnificent beauty. I know that you'll do fine." Anna said.
"I know, if I'm this person, it's because of you. If you didn't come into my life, I don't know where I'd be. Thank you Aunt Anna, you've been the closest thing to a mother I ever had." Mary Jane said.
"It's been a privilege to raise you, you've became like a daughter to me. I love you Mary Jane." Anna said.
"I love you too Aunt Anna." Mary Jane said.
Mary Jane and Anna hugged each other, Peter and May came in and sees them hugging each other.
"Car's outside, you ready?" Peter said.
"Yeah, I'm ready. Let's go." Mary Jane said.
Mary Jane, Peter, May, and Anna left the house as Mary Jane got a good look at it for the last time. The house has been her home since she moved in with Anna Watson after her mother died.
Later at LaGuardia Airport, Mary Jane has her luggage already loaded up as she's at the terminal looking back at her friends and family. She sees Peter, Gwen, Harry, May and Aunt Anna looking at her.
"Guess this is it." Mary Jane said.
"We're all going to miss you." Harry said.
Mary Jane and Harry hugged each other.
"Goodbye Harry, I hope that you'll find a lucky girlfriend." Mary Jane said.
"Here's hoping." Harry said.
Harry stepped away as May came and gave Mary Jane a hug.
"I'll miss you May." Mary Jane said.
"I'll miss you too, I was so happy that you and Peter were happy together while it lasted." May said.
May and Mary Jane broke off their hug as Gwen approached and hugs her.
"You been a great friend, a sister." Gwen said.
"I feel the same way. Take care of Peter." Mary Jane said.
"I will, I promise." Gwen said.
Gwen walked away as Aunt Anna walks up to her and hugs her.
"It's been great raising you as a daughter I never had. I know that you'll be happy living out your dreams." Anna said.
"Than you Aunt Anna for everything. I'll miss you." Mary Jane said.
"I love you." Anna said.
"I love you too." Mary Jane said.
Anna and Mary Jane broke off the hug as Anna walks back and Peter steps in and is in front of Mary Jane.
"I guess this is it Tiger." Mary Jane said.
"This is it. I wish that you and I could be together, but I realize now that your destiny is elsewhere. It's enough to know that you'll be happy, you deserve that." Peter said.
"So do you, I know that your happiness is out there somewhere. You'll get there, one day." Mary Jane said.
"Thank you... you were the most important woman in my life. I'll never forget all the good times we've had." Peter smiles.
"Neither will I... I love you Peter." Mary Jane said.
"I love you too Mary Jane, always have." Peter said.
Peter and Mary Jane hug and kiss each other one last time and saying their goodbyes. They broke off their hug as they look at one another.
"Goodbye MJ." Peter said.
"Goodbye Tiger." Mary Jane said.
Mary Jane walked away as she's about to past the point of no return. She looked back at her friends and family as she waves to them, they waved back to her.
Later they watched as the planes she's on is flying up towards the sky and heading for L.A..
Mary Jane is watching through the plane window and looks down at New York as she leaving the city that she spent half her living in. She now leaves it to pursue her dreams and seek out her new destiny without Peter. She smiles as she looks back at her old life and remembers the good times that she and Peter had together. She accepted that her old life is gone but she'll never forget him.
Sometime later, Peter and May returned from the airport after watching Mary Jane leaving by plane to California.
"Can't believe that she's already gone." May said.
"Yeah, can't believe it, but it's done." Peter said.
"Are you okay?" May said.
"Yeah, it hurts a bit but I know that she'll be happy living her dreams, that makes me happy." Peter said.
"Peter, I'm sorry that giving up Mary Jane is hard for you, but this is not the end, it can be a new beginning for you." May said.
"How?" Peter said.
"Just like I had to figure out how to move forward after Ben died, you need to figure out how to live your life. I know that there's someone out there for you, someone who can fill the void that Mary Jane left behind." May said.
"That's nice, but I don't know if I'm meant to be with someone because of my life as Spider-Man." Peter said.
"I know there is, you just have to hope and wait, one day that person will come to you and you'll be happy again." May said.
Peter smiled. "Thank you Aunt May."
Peter and May hugged each other until the doorbell rang. They opened it and see Rosie Thompson, mother of Flash Thompson, and she doesn't look happy.
"Rosie? Come in." May said.
She invited Rosie in as she's looked like she's sad.
"Rosie, what's wrong?" May said.
"It's... it's my son Flash." Rosie said.
"What about Flash?" Peter said.
"The Army called... he's missing." Rosie said.
Peter and May are shocked to hear that Flash Thompson is now missing in action in Symkaria.
