The Maid's Infatuation Act 2- Settling

My Master has called me to his office.

I walk through the halls that pave the way to him, when suddenly, something clicks.

Sirius is my little sister.

Why was I so anxious?

I sigh audibly.

I'll have to make it up to her soon.

Arriving at my Master's office, I knock on the door, well aware of my timid demeanor.

"Come in!" An enthusiastic voice calls from the other side.

I silently open the door and step inside.

"Ah, Dido..." He smiles and for unknown reasons my heart flutters.

I gently close the door behind me, and turn to face him.

"How did Belfast's assessment go?" He rises from his chair.

"S-she said I will make a great Maid..." I desperately grasp any compliment I get.

"I'm sure you will as well." His smile widens and I feel my face heat up slightly."Anyway, I called you here to discuss something..."

He pauses to examine me.

Please, please, don't be judging me...

"You have two sisters, correct?" My Master comes a bit closer.

"Y-yes!" I reply loudly.

I hope I didn't startle him...

"Do you mind reciting their names?" He continues smiling, giving me the courage to continue speaking.

"S-Sirius and B-Black Prince." I vaguely remember Black Prince, but I haven't seen her yet.

"I see..." He thinks for a minute. "Have you seen them yet?"

"O-only Sirius..." I feel a pang of emotional pain remembering the interaction I had with her earlier.

"How did it go?" Of course he had to ask that.

"Um...well, both of us acted like strangers to each other, and I feel horrible." I feel my eyes start to dampen.

"Hey, Dido..." He puts on the most soothing voice I've ever heard. "It's not your fault."

I wordlessly look at him, tears still threatening to overflow and stream down my face.

He places a hand on my shoulder. "I know how Sirius is. She can get so absorbed into her duties, that she forgets who it is she's talking to."

The gentle, comforting rubs he gives my shoulder aid in drying up my eyes.

"M-Master..." I straighten my posture.

"Feel better?" He asks with his friendly tone that I heard when I first arrived.

"A l-little..." I look at the floor.

I feel a light pressure on my head that gently starts caressing my hair, creating a calming effect.

I raise my eyes again to see my Master's arm is extended to my head.

N-no way...is he...?

He starts straightening my hair out. "You seem to have perked up..."

His arm returns to his side and I long for it's return.

"What do you say to being my secretary?" My Master's sudden offer stuns me.

"A-are you sure you're okay with me?" I ask, trying to ignore the leap of my heart.

"Yes, of course. I want to help you with social situations, since you seem quite shy." He remarks.

Was it really that obvious?

If he wants to help, then...

No, there's no way he could care that much about a lowly Maid, like myself.

"I-I accept." I decide, going against my thoughts.

"Great!" He beams, causing me to subtly smile. "Can you start tomorrow?"

"I-I have no plans..." I quickly reply.

"Good, good..." My Master returns to his seat.

"D-do you need anything?" I ask, hoping for a valid excuse to spend more time around him.

"Thank you for offering, but I'm fine." That rejection hurts me.

Still, I mask it on the outside.

"I-I'll be off now." I proclaim, and start to open the door.

"Take care, Dido." He calls after me in his signature, tender voice.

I hesitate for a few seconds, before forcing myself to leave.

Once out, I sigh in relief.

My emotions almost got the better of me, and I could've done something I would've come to regret.

Steadying myself, I begin to walk back to my room.
-

I lay on my bed, staring at the ceiling.

I've barely seen any of my new home, and yet, I feel so welcome.

Maybe it's because of my Master.

Maybe it's because I recognize some parts from my past.

Maybe it's because I now know at least one of my sisters is here.

A knock at my door interrupts my contemplation.

I slowly rise from my bed and trudge towards the door.

My opening of the door is apprehensive.

"Big sister?" It's Sirius.

I swing open the door fully and immediately hug her.

"Hey..." She returns it.

I revel in the warmth of 'family' reunion.

"S-Sirius..." I begin. "I'm sorry...I didn't recognize you..."

"Don't worry so much, I didn't recognize you either, until recently." Sirius strokes my hair.

I break away and wipe my slightly wet eyes.

"Since you've just arrived, why don't me and you go shopping?" Sirius puts on a smile similar to my Master's.

"W-why?" I ask, confused.

"You're going to need some clothes for when you're off duty, and not to mention..." Her voice dies down to a whisper. "Underwear."

I process what I had been told and begin blushing.

"H-how can you say that so casually?" I try to hide my face.

Sirius giggles. "Don't worry about it. I'll pay for your clothes."

"G-give me a few minutes to get ready..." I say before retreating back into my room.
-

Sirius has enthusiastically dragged me downtown, and into the shopping district.

The worst part of this experience is that I left my Doll back in my room, so I have to rely soully on my younger sister for comfort.

Not to say she's bad comfort, just that, my Doll and her combined would be best.

I'm suddenly taken to some fitting rooms and shoved a pile of clothes.

"Sister, try these on. We'll get the ones you like and put back the ones you don't." Sirius winks, then closes the curtain.

As I begrudgingly try on the new outfits, I begin pondering again.

Will my Master like to see me in more casu-

No, he doesn't really care that much...

M-maybe he cares a little...

I find myself in an outfit mainly comprised of light purple and grey.

Though I feel there is something missing...

Aha, that!

I pick up the beret that was sat on top of the mountain of clothes and affix it on my head at the best looking angle.

I check the mirror...does a beret really suit me?

I'll check Sirius' opinion.

I open the curtain and Sirius turns to look at me.

"Oh, that looks amazing!" She comes up to me.

"Y-you really think so?" I inquire, still feeling a bit awkward wearing this.

"Yes, I bet the Honourable Master would love to see you in this!" Is my younger sister teasing me on purpose?

I try to hide my blush again as Sirius laughs in a friendly manner.

"Do you like it?" She turns the question on me.

I turn back to the mirror...

"Mmmmm..." I rearrange the beret a bit and find myself looking quite stylish.

"I do like it when it looks like this." I tell her.

"Great! We'll buy it." Sirius looks to be enjoying herself.

I can't exactly say I'm not.
-

Me and Sirius are sat on the edge of a fountain, enjoying something called 'ice cream'.

It's weird for a first time, but also good.

This strawberry flavour is very nice when it blends with the, I guess, 'cream' bit of the substance.

I know I'll have to do something to pay Sirius back after all this.

But I am her big sister, so I shouldn't complain.

After my failure as a sister earlier, it's the least I could do for her.

A thought suddenly comes to mind.

"Sirius, won't Belfast be a bit mad at us for slacking?" I ask.

Sirius takes a bite out of her cone before looking at me. "She doesn't have to know."

"Though, being the Head Maid, I thought she would keep track of the work patterns of us." I try to sound unworried.

"She's not as diligent as she likes to make people think she is, we should be fine." Sirius reassures me.

I wordlessly return to my 'ice cream'.

I bite into the cone and the drastic change in texture almost causes me to spit it out immediately, but I manage to keep it in and adjust.

Now I know I'm sensitive to rapid changes in food.

I guess my diet's going to be pretty dull compared to the average human.

Here's hoping I won't be judged for it...
-

Me and Sirius part ways and I enter my room.

I see my Doll sitting atop my pillow.

I leap onto the bed and hug her.

I wish she could know how much I missed her.

Such is the curse of being an inanimate object, which I once was.

I have dicovered the joy and pain of human emotion.

Please, let there be more joy than hurt...
