He couldn't believe it had come to this, Jughead Jones stood on the cancer patients ward, outside the hospital room belonging to his wife, Elizabeth Cooper. His heart was pounding in his chest as he turned the door handle and stepped into the room. There he saw Betty, holding their beautiful six month old baby, Juliet. Her name had been inspired by the couple's nickname - Romeo and Juliet - from when they were teenagers.
Betty was whispering to her daughter, reassuring her that her mommy was ok. Betty knew that little Juliet probably couldn't understand a word she was saying but she still felt it was essential to say goodbye to her daughter. "Goodbye my baby girl" she said, stoking her daughter's hair.

Betty looked up at her husband and held out Juliet for him to take. Tears were now pouring like waterfalls from her emerald green eyes as Jughead wordlessly cradled her baby and handed her to Veronica who stood at the door of the hospital room crying.

Jughead thanked Veronica, closed the door and sat on a chair next to Betty's bed and the two sat in silence for several minutes.

"Promise me you won't let her forget me" Betty pleaded.

"Of course, Betts. I would never let that happen".

"I'm scared Juggie but at the same time I'm relieved. I've been in so much pain for so long and part of me just can't wait for some alleviation".

Jughead took Betty's hand into his "That's ok Betty, it's ok to feel that way".

Betty exhaled and looked Jughead in the eyes. "I want you to move on when i'm gone. I want to you to find a beautiful girl who can be a wonderful mother to our daughter" She said.

"I'll try but i don't think I will ever find anyone as amazing as you ever again. You're the love of my life Betty and it's taking everything in me not to break down crying".

"Don't hide your emotions from me Jughead. You don't have to be strong. It's ok to cry" Betty stated, twirling her ring round her finger.

Jughead nodded, too overwhelmed with emotions to speak. He rested his head on Betty's chest and sobbed his heart out. Betty stroked his hair softly and waited for him to calm down. He eventually managed to regulate his breathing and he sat up and dried his eyes.

"Lay with me?" Betty asked, lifting her quilt and allowing Jughead to climb in with her. Jughead put his arm around Betty and let her rest her head on his shoulder and lay her arm across his stomach.

"Juggie?" Betty whispered.

"Yeah?".

"I don't think I have much longer" She said. Jughead didn't know what to say to that. Instead he leaned down and kissed her forehead.

"Take care of our baby for me" Betty said "Make sure she has the best life she could possibly have, I want you to tell her every single day how much her mommy loves her".

"I will" Jughead choked out through tears.

Betty eyes started to close ever so slowly.

Jughead kissed Betty on the lips passionately.

"I love you, Betty Cooper".

Betty's lips curved into a smile.

"Jughead Jones, I love you".

And Betty Cooper's eyes closed for the last time. She was finally at peace.
