Hello all. Here I am, back with the second chapter of this story. Fun fact: the Clone Wars Film was originally intended to be four episodes, the first of which titled "The New Padawan," which is (purposely) the name of this chapter.
CloneWarsNerd: Yes. Of course you are.
Kondoru: I really appreciate your review: I know that at this point in the Clone Wars, Barriss isn't betraying the Jedi. But, in my story, Chancellor Palpatine already had the future set in motion. When one little thing changes, his whole plan changed. Everything is connected. That's my explanation. Thanks for pointing it out! It's an AU story, I'm quite changing things to my liking. I don't need to get all the facts right if I'm going to change everything anyway.
GlaciesTheNerd10 (Guest): Everyone wants to kill me, but I'm glad you like it!
The beginning of the chapter will now feature they year (in Before Battle of Yavin and After Battle of Yavin) so that you can get a clear grasp of when stuff happens. I've been doing a ton of research on timeline of Star Wars, more specifically the Clone Wars.
Chapter Two: The New Padawan
21 BBY
Ahsoka Tano had never been so fidgety in her entire short life.
Not even when Master Plo brought her to the Temple, not when she was meeting her new Master, but now, meeting this new apprentice, she couldn't help it.
The girl was brought into the hangar bay in the same type of shuttle that Ahsoka recalled being brought to Anakin in; the Council obviously couldn't afford to send a Jedi ship all the way to the Outer Rim in a time of war.
She had never been a fan of "welcoming committees." When she was six years old, she had been tasked with bringing around a new recruit to her initiate clan. When the door slid open, she had ran behind the legs of her Crèche Master and cried. Ahsoka had quite changed since then, but her idea of meeting people of her own age was harrowing.
This time, the door slid open, revealing, yes, a human girl maybe a bit younger than her. Ahsoka could feel her nervous energy, yet she stood with a regal might that only the naive youth could have. In contrast with the girl's dark hair, her off-white initiate outfit shone out just as her stormy grey eyes.
Luminara gave off waves of mixed feelings. One was regret, another grief, but lastly, pride. Pride for what? Ahsoka bitterly laughed to herself. A replacement?
The Mirialan Jedi Master walked forward, excitement glittering in her eyes. Anakin grinned and followed, mentally telling Ahsoka, 'Hurry it up!'
"Welcome, Padawan," said Unduli calmly. "I am Jedi Master Luminara Unduli. I will be supervising and leading your training."
The girl's eager eyes shot around the hangar; she had never been in place so loud and shiny before. "Thank you, Master," she said respectfully. "I'm Padawan Initiate Rhea Isa. I am proud privileged to be your learner." So much like Barriss!
"Uh, hello!" Anakin butted in and Ahsoka felt the urge to roll her eyes. Such a Skyguy thing to do. "I am Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, and this is my Padawan, Ahsoka Tano."
This time, Ahsoka did not hide behind her Master's legs and whimper. She stood, clasped her hands to together, and bowed. "Welcome aboard the Resolute, Rhea."
Rhea got the idea that she should bow back, so she copied her. Ahsoka could barely see a mischievous smirk as she went down.
"Ahsoka," Anakin smiled, matching the silly grin that Rhea had just given. "Can you show Padawan Isa around for a few minutes? Luminara and I need to discuss the plans for the station."
The Togruta narrowed her eyes, mentally threatening, I'll get you for this, Skyguy. "Sure, Master! This way, Rhea, I'll show you around."
She again shot Anakin a look of pure distaste and then walked away with the slightly younger girl in tow.
Ahsoka walked quickly, though she wasn't sure why. Nervous energy? There was a lot coming from this girl.
"This is the main hangar bay, where ships take off and come in. I spend an unhealthy amount of time in here," she said sarcastically.
"I would, too! I've never been in a room like this," said Rhea. "I mean, the Room of A Thousand Fountains at the Temple, but this place is shiny, and loud, and… wow."
"I know what you mean," Ahsoka smiled.
"Ah!" yelled Rhea, leaping back. She clutched her foot. "Kriffing - kriff, droid! Watch it!"
Ahsoka's head whipped around, locating her favorite droid: "Artoo! Watch where you're going, you little sleemo." Artoo beeped in defense and she turned to Rhea. "You okay?"
"Yeah, just - kriff," she nodded and shook her foot.
Ahsoka helped her up and laughed, "You curse like a clone!" Artoo whirred in a humorous manner.
Rhea's eyes widened and the mood suddenly sombered. "Yeah," she muttered. "Like a clone."
Just before she was able to ask anything, a too-familiar voice called out, "Are you talking trash about us, Commander?"
"Delv!" Ahsoka ran over to the clone, who was holding his helmet at his side, as were his brothers Rif and Trigger. "Rhea, come over here. This is Delv, Trigger, and Rif. Guys, this is General Unduli's new apprentice, Rhea Isa."
"Welcome 'board the Resolute, Commander," Trigger smiled. To Ahsoka: "Should I call her Commander Two?"
"No, Rhea's just fine," Ahsoka grinned and looked over to the mentioned to see if she was laughing.
She was not.
Rhea was looking down at her feet, her fingers twitching nervously.
Ahsoka gave a nudge through the Force, but Rif seemed to obviously notice the attitude.
"We, you know… Rhea, you're a Shiny," he mentioned awkwardly.
"Shiny?" Eyes somewhat looked up.
"Well," he explained. "You're what Captain Rex would call a Shiny. If you were a clone coming straight from Kamino and you hadn't painted your armor yet, your armor would be all white and shiny."
A ghost of a smirk grew on Rhea's face. "I'm glad to be here, men. Talk to you later?"
"Anytime, Commander Two!" Delv joked, saluting.
"See you around, guys," Ahsoka said, and led the new Padawan off to the main control room. She had know this girl for no more than ten minutes - she shouldn't ask about the mood yet.
"How old were you when you became a Padawan, Ahsoka?" Rhea suddenly asked.
"Same age I am now. In standard years, 14, but I'm almost 15 now."
"Well, I'm 13." Ahsoka nearly gasped in surprise and Rhea laughed. "I know, I know. In my Initiate Clan, that was the exact reaction of the other kids."
"I was a bit like that, too. Except a little bit older. Though I could have used a few lessons on how to be a mature Padawan… Anakin nicknamed me Snips,"she remembered fondly. "I couldn't help but make fun of him."
"Yeah, but..." Rhea's voice softened to a whisper. "I think the younglings were jealous. I mean, that I got to be a Padawan before them. And thePadawan to renowned Jedi Master." She looked down, guilt crossing over her face. "Sorry. I'm gossiping."
"No problem. Plus, those kids shouldn't be jealous. It's not the Jedi way." Ahsoka warmly put a hand on her shoulder. "And for the record, I believe that you'll be a great Jedi." She could practically feel Rhea's mood lighten as they walked onto the bridge.
As soon as they emerged into the open, the atmosphere sombered once again as some of the clone officers working at Intelligence looked up.
"Ah! Commander, you're here!" said a regal voice from the front of the bridge.
Ahsoka smiled. "Admiral Yularen!" In her mind, it was, Ugh. Admiral Yularen.
"Yes, well, Commander, remember you said that you would - "
"I'm very sorry, Admiral," she said, putting some honey in her tone. "I'm showing General Unduli's apprentice around, and we have to be one our way soon, so…"
"Of course," Yularen quickly muttered. "Of course."
"Yes," said the youngest member on the bridge, through visibly gritted teeth. "Let's get out of here."
As soon as the door to the command center slid shut, Ahsoka whispered, "What is wrong with you? First, you can't look up at my friends' faces, and then you have a semi-nervous breakdown? What is it with you and clones?"
As soon as she'd said it, she regretted it. This was obviously a sensitive topic for the younger girl, but Rhea stood tall.
"It's all right," she said. "Jango Fett - the man who gave his DNA to create the clones - was a family friend of ours. He died, and, well, seeing his face again is hard. That's all." She smiled up to match Ahsoka's height. "I'll get used to it soon."
"Of course. It was weird for me at first, too."
Rhea breathed a deep sigh of relief. Ahsoka didn't know the truth.
And hopefully, no one would have to know her past… or where she came from.
The anger.
The hate.
It was unbearably strong in Rhea Isa.
He knew that this was the key to the Dark Side. She was jealous, sad, and angry.
The Jedi.
Young Padawan Isa was angry at the Jedi.
"Yes," Sidious said to himself with glee. "This will do perfectly."
Yay! I did it! I finished this chapter!
IMPORTANT AUTHOR'S NOTE RIGHT HERE:
This is not one of those 'solely about Ahsoka' stories, even though it may seem like it. I am setting the stage for more Anakin, Obi-Wan, and other great characters. I absolutely LOVE Anidala and Obitine, so I'll be sure to add those in. Also, I promise that the characters will all have nice development. I understand that they are a bit out of character right now, but it'll get better.
ALSO - This story will morph into the original trilogy, and that is when most of the changes will start to happen.
Thanks all for reading and review, favorite, and follow. it brightens up my day.
