Once they reached the Isle, a crowd awaited them again. This time the Isle square was filled with fellow villain kids. The five of them greeted the new arrivals. Carlos and Jay ushered the two Smee boys to the limo. The two boys looked very nervous, but they obliged and climbed in. Evie smiled as she watched Carlos give Squeaky a boost into the backseat. He was so good with kids. Maybe because he still acted like one. In a good way of course.
"I can't believe I'm going back to Auradon!" Dizzy smiled. "And this time I have a proper send off."
"I'm excited to have you back," Evie winked at her before turning her towards her grandmother.
"Do you have everything?" the stern woman asked. Dizzy nodded. "Are you sure?"
"I'm sure Granny," Dizzy insisted. Evie knew most of her stuff was still at Auradon.
"Oh really?" Lady Tremaine raised an eyebrow before pulling something from behind her back.
"My glue gun!" Dizzy exclaimed and snatched it from her.
"I don't know what you're going to do with out me," she said haughtily.
Dizzy looked at her grandmother with soft eyes. "I'm going to miss you, again."
"Go on," Lady Tremaine waved her off, but Dizzy stayed put. She looked back Evie to receive a wink. Dizzy turned and smiled. She said her goodbye before hugging her. For a moment, Evie thought she saw the older woman smile herself. Dizzy joined Evie and giggled as they got into the limo.
Mal and Ben walked with Celia. Mal reached for the small backpack on her shoulder. "Here, let me help get this off you." before she could lay a finger on her, Celia swung the pack off her shoulder and threw it into the open trunk. Ben exchanged glances with her as he closed the trunk.
"Okay!" the king stayed optimistic. "Let's go and-" Celia sighed and walked into the limo. "Do this..." Ben finished his sentence. He looked a little embarrassed, but all Mal could do was laugh. He put his arm around her and they walked to the limo door together. Everyone around them clapped and cheered. Mal smiled and waved to the people she once lived among. She hoped to come back soon.
They started off. In the limo, Dizzy was already talking about how much she had missed ice cream. "I really want the chance to swim this time."
"We could go to the Enchanted Lake," Evie suggested. Dizzy squealed with delight.
"I can't believe I get to live with you in your own castle for the summer!"
It was more like a big cottage, but Evie liked to think of it like a castle. "Its more like a starter castle." Evie smiled and nodded. She then turned her gaze to Carlos and Squeaky while Dizzy continued to mumble happily to herself.
Carlos grabbed a peanut butter cup from the mini bar and handed it to the small Smee boy. "Here," he said calmly. The boy held out his hands hesitantly "Go ahead. Trust me on this." He placed it in his hands. He remembered the first time he tasted chocolate. Little did he know it would be the start of a great love story between him and sweets. His eyes had lit up like gems. Now Squeaky's eyes did the same thing.
Once the small boy took his first bite, he couldn't stop. "I know," Carlos leaned back. "Dig in. Dig in." He knew that boy would never turn down sweets ever again. He put his arm around the twin in a brotherly way. His brown eyes gazed over to Evie's. He hadn't noticed that she was watching him, but he grinned at her. She smiled and turned her attention back to what Dizzy was babbling about.
In the front seat, Jay gripped the wheel as tightly as Squirmy gripped his arm. He understood how weird it all was to ride in the car for the first time. "You've got a good grip." Jay tried to make conversation, but ultimately failed. "You play sports?" The boy only stared at the road ahead of them. He didn't make a sound.
Ben watched Mal looking out the window until he heard the cards fan out. Celia had her deck of cards ready. He had heard she was good a fortune telling like her father. he smiled at the red head and grabbed a pink card. Mal leaned her head on Ben's shoulder and watch as he held it int his hand until she took it. She placed her own hand over the card and closed her eyes in concentration.
She nodded,"You're going to be a wise and brave king." She showed the card to Ben and he took it. He looked at the picture of the old king and smiled.
"He already is," Mal reminded as she hugged his arm. Ben exchanged glances with her before looking back to his card.
"See?" Celia held out her hand. "The cards never lie." Her grin was touched with mischievousness. It reminded him of Rose. Ben knew she wanted a tip. He pulled out his wallet and gave her a twenty. Her eyes lit up at she looked at the money. Ben liked to treat the Isle kids well.
They reached the barrier. The limo pulled out. Mal wondered what the Auradon people were thinking. They were watching a live feed of the trip. She knew many elders were against it, but they didn't know what life was like on the Isle. They never will understand. She did agree with one thing, the barrier should open to put Uma back in. She trained her eyes on the water and watched for the sea witch.
"Guys," Evie called. The color had drained from her face. "Its Hades! Stop the car he's trying to escape!" Mal felt uneasy as she turned around to see out the back window. He was really there. In the flesh. Jay stopped the car immediately. They all rushed out. Evie ushered the kids to stay inside.
"I'm a god!" Hades called. His blue hair was lit in flames. The blue ember Mal had only dreamed of was clutched in his hand. He was caught in a circle of the barrier. Carlos, Ben, and Jay all charged at him, but Hades zapped them with blue lightning. They fell to ground. Mal and Evie both gasped. She looked over to Evie to see she wanted to walk forward, but there was a force holding her back.
Mal looked back to exchanged glances with Hades. A weird sensation came over Mal. She didn't know what this feeling was. The last time she felt it was when she faced her mother on Coronation Day. Her eyes glowed green and her shoulders propped themselves back. Violet smoke began to appear at her feet. it swirled around as it worked its way up to her head.
She had changed into her dragon form. Mal pushed her powerful wings and soared up into the sky. She hissed at the target. His smug expression seemed to turn into amazement, then anger. He punched his arm up into the air. All Mal saw was the shine of the blue ember before being struck by a lightning force. She felt something pulling her, but also pushing her away. She screeched and tried to muster up the power for a fireball.
In Auradon, everyone watched in horror. Belle was clutched on Beast's sleeve. Audrey looked around. "There's your precious queen! She can't even protect us!" Once Fairy Godmother gave the word of panic, everyone ran around. Screams echoed throughout the square garden. Audrey didn't move from her spot, she wanted to watch every bit of what was happening.
"Come on Mal!" Jay shouted at her. "Blast him!" Mal tried her best, but all she could to was blow powerful smoke. It worked better than she thought. After a long struggle, Hades was pushed out of the barrier and back into the Isle. The golden shield closed and the bubble was restored. Mal felt herself fall down towards the ground. She felt so weak and landed on the limo's trunk.
Evie was no longer pushed back from the boys. She rushed over to Carlos and helped him up. When the white haired boy was on his feet, he felt around his rib cage and heart. The blue hair princess looked at him with caring eyes. "Are you okay?" She didn't let go of his arm until he caught his breath and took hold of her hand. He swallowed before he nodded.
Mal was back in her human form. Evie and Ben both helped her off the vehicle. She stumbled around for a bi, but steadied herself by holding Ben and Evie's hands. Then a pain came up in her stomach. She clutched it. Ben immediately put his arm around her, steadying her. His eyes stared at her, but Mal only kept her gaze on Hades. "Are you okay?" Evie asked.
"No," Mal felt tears springing to her eyes. She could still feel the pulling. "He was draining all of my magic with that ember and I felt my powers slipping away!"
"You're safe," Evie said in a calm voice. She felt Carlos' hand on her back protectively. Evie looked into the barrier to see Hade. "He's back where he belongs."
"Yeah," Mal was still trying to catch her breath. "For now." She leaned her head against Ben's. The king pulled her close in attempts to comfort her. Her eyes remained on her him. Hades walked into the shaded and miserable Isle and went out of sight
"We should go." Jay grabbed Mal's arm and talked in a low voice. Mal nodded. Ben took her hand and lead her to the limo. They exchanged many concerning looks.
Evie sighed a little before Carlos' hand move from her back to her arm. He proceeded to grab her hand. Evie turned to him and looked into his concerned eyes. They were all shaken by this. As they walked to the limo, Evie hugged her boyfriends arm before escorting the new arrivals back to their seats.
That night, alone in her dorm room, Audrey sat on her bed. Her gaze looked down at her diary. She tried her best not to get tear stains on the drawing of her in the queen's crown. Her eyes looked up for a moment. On pink painted shelves, pictures of her and Ben were standing in their frames. Her favorite was the one at the ball. It was before Rose had decided to burn down the castle. Before, the picture at the ball was just of her and Ben, but now, Rose appeared in the background. She wondered what other pictures the princess had suddenly shown up in.
A picture of a young Ben and Audrey was one that Audrey knew would be retaken. The young prince was crowned, and he held another crown for his queen. Audrey used to think that it was a gaze into her future, but now she didn't know anything about her future. She was in summer school and still lived in the dorms. She would be lucky to get a good career. There was another one only taken about a year and a half ago. It was only days before Mal and her friends came over and ruined everything.
"A lifetime of plans, gone. Our family status, gone."
Her grandmother's words brought another wave of guilt and sadness to Audrey. More tears streamed down her cheeks as she looked back down at her drawing. It was her who should be wearing the crown. Mal had taken everything away from her. Her boyfriend, her future, her popularity, her friends, and her family's trust. She was so tired of pretending everything was alright. But where was her happy ending?
She always was good. She didn't try to hurt anyone. It was the villain kids who changed everyone's minds. Audrey never thought of herself as mean, but everyone else did. She was only doing what she felt was right. Telling her best friend Jane about Evie kissing Carlos' cheek was her best intention for Jane. Showing everyone the video of Evie having a magical meltdown was to show everyone what a danger she was. She was only trying to protect Auradon. A queen should always try to protect her country.
Maybe there was a way for her to get Ben back. Maybe she was bad enough for him. Her fingers fumbled around in her desk drawers. She couldn't remember where she had put them, but then she recalled. Audrey lifted her jewelry box and there they laid stacked in the pile, the magical papers. She didn't know who they were from, but she knew they understood.
They stopped coming just a little before graduation. She read them over again to get her plan into motion. It was funny, though, she didn't remember seeing the pink splatters on the papers. Audrey continued to search what she was looking for, then the words stood out to her in bold. FACE THE REALITY. The reality was she never wins being the good guy, but evil will win this round.
Audrey stuffed the papers back under her jewelry box. She felt as if something was whispering to her. Like the angels on your shoulder. But Audrey's was no angel. It was now a devil on her shoulder. Grabbing a golden fire iron before leaving, she walked to the museum where she knew she could get what she wanted. The cool night only added to the effect on her. She was going to have to break in.
It was easier than Audrey thought it was going to be. The guard was sleeping. Audrey walked quietly over to the computers and shut down the cameras. She didn't need to be seen, not yet. The girl continued to stroll through the dark museum until she saw the sign for the queen's crown. She pushed back the blue curtain. There on a pedestal and surrounded by a glass case was the jeweled crown meant for the Queen of Auradon.
She gripped the fire iron in her hand. Her feet had taken the last step before she stopped. What was she doing? This was wrong. But it wasn't as wrong as what Mal did to her. The purple haired menace needed to pay. She would be their queen, good or bad, and they would bow to her wicked schemes. Audrey took a deep breath before smashing the case. Glass shattered and spread across the marbled floors.
Audrey looked back up to see the innocent crown sitting on its stand. Her hands were shaking as she reached out and grabbed the gold ring. She held it up for a close examination. This was the real crown. Audrey was about to place it on her head, but then remembered something. How could she be bad without a source of power. She recalled the paper talking about Maleficent's staff. She tossed the fire iron aside in search of her new weapon.
She wouldn't know where to start looking for it. Then suddenly, the blue curtains were pushed back to reveal Maleficent's staff. The green ember was almost a bright as Audrey's mischievous smile. On another pedestal, she knocked over a basket of poison apples and placed her new crown on top. A female voice called her name. Audrey looked nowhere else but the scepter.
With every step she could feel the power it held. She couldn't go back anymore, something was pulling her towards it. Anger begin to rise it her before she grabbed the scepter. When her skin contacted with it, the room flashed. Audrey watched her hair turn hot pink and blue. Her light pink dress was now woven with threads of black. Green flurries of magic swirled around her as she felt the power grow inside her.
She turned to the pedestal where her crown waited for her. Audrey summoned it with her new magic staff. She placed it on her head and smiled. She would get revenge and get what she deserved. Happiness washed over her as she danced with the glowing scepter. Smashing the end of the staff down on the floor, the chandelier above her burst. The glass pieces join the green magic and dance around her.
"I WANT WHAT I DESERVE!" Audrey hit her new scepter on the floor again. The glass shot out around her, cutting the surrounding red curtains. She laughed mischievously as she walked out of the museum in search of a new hiding place. She was no longer Audrey, the girl who lost her chance of becoming queen. She was now Audrey, the queen of mean.
