Thank you for your compliments about the lyrics. I try my best to include the songs but not just have them say all of the lyrics. Thanks for the review.
EVERYBODY: Thanks for reading. I highly suggest ******LISTEN TO NIGHT FALLS******* during the end scene. Just the part when they do the vocals. I think you understand what I mean when you get there. I think it'll add a little emotion as you read.
Carlos, Jay, and Evie all sat together on the stairs of the Isle's front gate. The last time they were on here was to declare the new VKs. No one had bothered them, and they were grateful. Stares from passing by children made Carlos feel uncomfortable. He locked eyes with a small boy who was sitting on the side of one of the homeless shelters. His browns eyes looked at him with recognition. Carlos had spent lots of time there, staying away from his mother's orders and hanging with other kids like him.
When Evie leaned her head against his shoulder, Carlos was surprised. She seemed to ignore him since he placed the ring on her finger. He was wondering what her thoughts consisted of. Did she want to get married? Or was she confused? He had only meant it as a sweet romantic gesture at a glance towards their future. Carlos' love for her was undying. He wanted to give her the ring out of promise, rather than an engagement. He didn't want to get married at three weeks away from 18. Being younger than the rest of the group didn't matter to him, but he wanted to get a career before tying the knot. He and Evie were close to a year since they became a couple, but it felt like they were together all along.
He put his arm around his girlfriend. His cheek was pressed against the top of her head."How's your leg?" Carlos said this softly. He glanced up at Jay, who was leaning over the stairs to look inside of the tunnel. Mal and Celia shouldn't be too long, but they were already there for about a half hour without saying a single word.
"Its not that bad." He voice was low. "I don't think it'll affect my walking as much, but maybe you could help me? If you wanted to of course."
"Of course I will," Carlos leaned back. Her hazel eyes looked at him with curiosity. "I love you. I always have. I always will." Evie looked at him with different eyes. They were filled with admiration. She was opening her mouth to say something when Jay cut her off.
"Took you long enough."
The couple turned their heads to see him running down the stairs to meet Mal and Celia. Carlos looked back at Evie expectantly. The blue haired princess turned her head back to him. She opened her mouth again. "What! Evie are you okay?!" Mal rushed to her. Evie's eyes stay trained on his until Mal was at her side.
"Uh," Evie looked down at Mal. "Yeah. But its not that bad."
"I might be able to heal it." Mal nodded but then shook her head. "But my spell book is back at the cottage. I'm sorry. I can at least try, I've got the ember."
"Its alright." Evie shrugged. "I can walk on it. I'll be alright." Mal glanced at Carlos, then looked back to Evie.
"Come on," Mal held out a hand. Evie gave her her left hand. Carlos held his breath as he rose to his feet. Mal didn't seem to notice the ring. Carlos put his arm around Evie's waist to steady her. She only walked with a slight limp.
They walked to the barrier. Jay held out the barrier button. As they walked through the barrier, the ember ignited and scent a sense through Mal. She looked at her hair to see it now had streaks of blue. "Whoa," Evie looked at her in astonishment. "You've got a little Hades thing going. Mal laughed a little as everyone looked at her new hair and details on her clothing. It worked. The ember worked. The power scared Mal a little.
Carlos could hear footsteps behind them. He passed Evie to Celia quickly and turned to see Harry and Gil jump through the small hole in the barrier. They barrel rolled down onto the bridge. Carlos and Mal stood firmly, ready to put them back. Jay folded his arms. Evie leaned on Celia behind them. The two boys in front of them brushed of their leather jackets.
"Hey guys," Harry tried to act smooth. "We're just coming for a small visit." They began to walk towards them. Carlos and Jay both pushed them back.
"Hey guys!" Mal was calling behind Carlos as Harry pushed him back. "There's no need to fight!" Carlos bumped into Mal and sent the ember out of her hand. She reached for it as it bounced on the stone bridge. Her hand was wrapped around it before Harry flicked it with his hook. "No!" She called as the blue stone fell to the sea.
Before the ember could hit the water, a tentacle rose from the sea and snatched it. Mal couldn't believer her eyes. The search was finally over. Uma was here. The sea witch surfaced with a grin. Her wet blue hair was now unraveled and fell onto her shoulders. The shell around her neck glowed golden and caught Mal's eye. Uma laughed a little. "Drop something?"
"That can't get wet!" Mal called urgently. Her voice was high pitched and shrill. She hated to sound that way, but it happened when she was nervous and scarred. "Give it back before it goes out!" She held out her hand, but knew it was no use when Uma cackled.
"Uma!" Harry and Gil both said in amazed voices.
"That's my name," Uma waved before submerging back into the water.
"No!" Mal yelled as the ember went under the water. She almost dove into the water, but Jay held her back. The sea began to swirl up closer by the bridge. The bubble burst causing mist to flood over the teens. Mal searched for any sign of Uma, but she was gone again.
"Hi boys!" Uma waited on the other side of the bridge. She held the ember up to mock Mal. The teens stared at her. They didn't know what to do.
"Welcome back!" Harry laughed as he held out his hook to Uma. She took it and pulled him to her side.
Gil walked to her with a sad look. "You swam off and forgot all about us."
"You weren't quick enough with the escape plan," Uma shrugged. "But here I am now." Mal recalled the day she let Uma out of her reach. The first time was at the cotillion. After she was summoned by Evie back on land. Gil and Harry were taken off the Isle to help Evie's evil schemes. She ran away before the gang got to Evie's castle. The three had gone missing for a long time until they resurfaced in the town of Dandelion. They helped bring down Rose, but were sent back to the Isle because Mal knew better. On the way, Uma had escaped, but they had recovered Gil and Harry. She was missing for over a half year, until now. Mal wouldn't let her get away again.
"To execute your revenge plan?" Mal folded her arms.
"Its not all about you Mal," Uma shot back instantly. Mal raised an eyebrow. "I was looking for a hole in the barrier to let everyone out. So then you wouldn't try to lock me back in again. I think we all deserve to be set free after our help to the Rose issue."
"You also helped Rose build her army before helping us take her down." Jay reminded.
"Anyway," Uma turned towards the boys,"Its a lot better out there than we thought. Rose didn't show us enough. There is this furry rock called a coconut and fish so big you could dance on their backs. They've been keeping it all to themselves."
"Whatever," Mal held out her hand again. "Uma, I need that ember to break a spell. "
"Cast by Audrey," Carlos took over. "Sleeping Beauty's daughter."
"Mm," Uma looked confused,"So the good guy's the bad guy. How...unoriginal. Rose ring a bell?" Her brown eyes looked back at Mal before she laughed. "Well I might not give it back. Just to see what happens." Mal was put over the edge. She had been searching for Uma for months and here she was antagonizing her.
"UMA!" Mal snapped. "Its not the time for playing games! People's lives are at stake!"
"Like that never happened before." Uma back away and nodded at Evie's direction. "Blue haired princess, the lost princess, the heart broken princess. They're all the same. What's different this time? What's in it for us?" Mal was quiet. "Alright. I'll make you a deal. Promise me every kid can get off the Isle if they want to."
Mal looked around at everyone. She knew it wasn't possible. She wished she would have told Evie the truth, that way she could have back up. "I can't promise that." Uma suddenly held the ember over the bridge. "Okay fine!"
Uma didn't budge. "Uma! Her word is good," Evie told her. Mal held out her arm again Uma pulled the ember back to safety. "I'll still keep this for the time being. Just a little insurance that you don't put right back inside. Because if you think you can save the world on your own, think again. You barely did it the last time without us. And this must be a bigger threat than Rose. Besides, this is a job for pirates." Uma turned to Gil and Harry.
Mal folded her arms, frustrated. She just wanted the ember, not Uma's help. Jay grabbed her arm and said in a low voice. "Remember, we can go back to hating each other when this is over." Uma turned to Mal expectantly.
"Fine." Mal finally let herself think this would be a good plan. They did help with Rose, but could she still trust them.
"Where are our bikes?" Jay asked.
"Oh," Gil smiled,"We crashed them." Harry made a whistle and a crash sound. The three were shocked.
"I guess its walking then," Harry laughed.
"Well that would be a good plan but you cut up my girlfriend's leg." Carlos made his way forward but Jay stopped him.
"Here's a thought," Evie cut in. She took a few steps forward. She tried to stifle her whimpers of pain the best she could. "We could try to be friends." She put her hands on her hips. "Put our history behind us and celebrate out differences. Besides, we already teamed up against Rose. What's different about this time?"
"Uh," Uma put her own hands on her hips. "Back then I didn't know Mal was going to put us right back on the Isle."
"It was where you belonged." Mal folded her arms.
"Hey," Evie cut the tension. She pulled out a red bag from her sleeve. "Who wants gum?" She shook the bag with a grin.
"Let's just go," Uma folded her arms and walked down the bridge.
"Uh!" Mal cut her off,"I'm in charge. Let's go." Mal Jay and Carlos walk on one side of Evie, while Uma, Gil, and Harry walked on the other. Celia left her side, leaving Evie standing and holding up her gum bag. She was about to pop one in her mouth when hands grabbed her shoulders from behind.
"I can't resist," Carlos kissed Evie on the cheek before grabbing a gumball and putting it in his mouth. Evie smiled, her cheeks blushing profusely. She then tucked her gum away and began to long walk.
They had walked all the way to the castle. Mal didn't know what she was going to expect. Everyone in the courtyard was asleep. There were a few snores here and there, but it was mostly quiet. She held a phone to her ear, but it went straight to voicemail. "I can't get Ben."
"I can't get Dizzy," Evie put her phone down.
"The signals must be out," Carlos said looking at his own phone. "I'm guessing Audrey blocked that out for a reason."
"So no one can get help," Jay shook his head.
"Is that Auradon prep?" Celia pointed over to the smaller castle in front of the big one."
"Yep," Carlos was examining the sleeping people around him. "When everyone wakes up, you're going to love it." Celia had a shocked look on her face. Carlos remembered the first time he laid eyes on it. It was an amazing sight. Too bad Celia had to see it this way.
Jay was looking at students when Gil exclaimed,"Everything is so.."
"Creepy?" Jay finished
"Green," Gil was looking around at the landscape around them. "You have leaves on your tress." He pointed over to the bushes. "What are those colored things." Jay raised an eyebrow. Did he really not know? He knew Gil wasn't the brightest bulb in the box, but still it confused him.
"Uh flowers?" Jay kept his eyebrows raised. Gil grinned ear-to-ear.
"Flowers are pretty," the son of Gastone looked down at the table."Cantaloupe!" He took the bowl and tipped it back for the fruit to fall into his mouth.
"We don't have fresh fruit on the Isle," Uma cut in. Jay felt bad, but when Gil put down the bowl, he realized it wasn't cantaloupe.
"They're grapes," Jay patted him on the bad and hurried over to where Harry was.
"Well I love grapes," Jay heard Gil say. Harry was taking wallets from the sleeping people. Jay remembered his days of pit pocketing. His dad was never satisfied. Those days felt so long ago compared to now. From thief to graduate. He never expected life to go this way
"I believe I deserve so compensation for my muscles," Harry took the money from a brown wallet.
"Hey pretty boy," Jay snatched the money from his hand,"Stealing isn't legal here."
"It isn't legal on the Isle either and yet you were the best at it," Harry kept the grin on his face and moved along. Jay sighed. He then put the moment back into the guy's shirt pocket. "Of course I was never scared of you."
"Guys!" Both Mal and Uma called. They stopped fighting immediately. Jay tried his best to remember his words from earlier. Now was not the time to hate each other.
Carlos heard familiar 'mmm.' He followed the noise to find Dude licking a guy's hand. "Dude!" Carlos was glad to see his dog safe.
"Delicious," Dude turned to Carlos and burped loudly.
"Really?" Carlos scolded him.
"What! It wasn't me I swear!" Dude defended himself. "Okay, it was me." Mal and Jay both ran up behind him.
"Do you know what happened here?" Mal asked.
"Yup." Dude sat down as he said simply,"Audrey showed up, put everybody to sleep then she turned some of them to-"
"Stone," Evie finished. Except she wasn't huddled around the dog. She was standing over to by a statue. "Hannah turned to stone." She took a step forward and leaned against the statue. She could feel her leg bleeding again. Carlos rushed over to her first. He steadied her as the others checkout the statue.
"Since we're here lets check out the school." Uma directed. Harry, Gil, and Celia all followed.
"No," Mal cut her off. "Audrey went straight for the crown so its safe to assume she went for Ben and the castle next. We should go there."
"Says who," Uma turned.
"Says me," Mal got defensive.
"Says you and that's supposed to mean something to me?" Uma got up in her face.
"Guys," Evie cut the tension. Mal looked to see she was standing on her own. Mal looked back at Uma.
"To the castle then," Mal began to walk around the school. "I know a slight shortcut." The castle was behind the school, but it faced the other way. Uma shook her head but followed.
Audrey watch all of this from her staff. The gem projected the picture of the walking. She was in her mother's old cottage where she was raised for the first sixteen years of her life. It was the perfect hide out. No one would ever suspect it. Right now, Audrey was angry. " How did Mal break my spell?'
"I don't know," Chad winced as she threw some pears at him She could feel the anger flowing through her. It was getting stronger every second she held the staff. Audrey liked feeling empowered, but her mind had a quarrel on what to do next. This voice kept telling her to get angrier, and often times, she listened.
"And what is Uma doing here? They shouldn't be working together. They hate each other. I hate them!" The staff glowed as the glass bowl holding the pairs threw itself at Chad. He dodged and the glass hit the back wall. "What are they planning to do?"
"I don't know," Chad shook his head. He was on the ground shaking. She liked to see him like this. Weak and defenseless. It made her feel even more powerful. "But I can go check for you." He scrambled to get up.
"Stay!" Audrey yelled. He paused in his actions. She walked over to him and pet his shaggy blonde hair. She could feel fear rise in him when she said,"Its going to get a little ugly." She laughed as the voice told her what spell to do. This game was about to get interesting.
At the castle, Mal called for her missing boyfriend. Dude lead the way with his noes, but it didn't seem to help much. "Ben!" She called again "He could be asleep anywhere."
"Or turned to stone." Celia reminded. Mal didn't like that thought. Then there really would be no hope for him. She pushed the thought out of her mind and continued to walk down the hall. She knew they were close to his office. There were no signs of life, except two guards and the butler all were asleep on the floor outside of his office.
"Celia lets think happy thoughts," Evie put a hand on her shoulder as they entered the office. Dude was sitting in front of his desk.
"I've got a scent," Dude sniffed. "Very pungent cologne. Also a brand new one. It was in the hall too. Like a rose scent."
"That must be Audrey," Mal looked at the torn curtains. "But why would she tear the curtains."
"Rose," Evie said immediately. "In her beast form."
"That's impossible," Mal shook her head,"She doesn't have any magic anymore."
"Then who took the sword of enchantment," Carlos looked at the empty pegs on the wall.
"Audrey probably," Uma put together,"If its supposedly the most powerful sword in the world."
"Rose has stolen it before," Jay shook his head.
"Ben trusts her," Mal was still looking at the curtains.
"I don't," Uma folded her arms. She wouldn't after she had become too evil for Uma to handle. That's what lead to their help in the war.
"But Rose is a little more clean when it comes to her crimes," Jay recalled. "If she wanted us to know it was her she would've let us know." Mal thought about the Rose painting she had left when she took Evie.
"You're right," Mal agreed. "Rose is back in her cell probably asleep, lets just rule her out. Besides the scent Dude is smell is probably Audrey."
"Yeah," Dude confirmed,"There isn't much of a scent outside. She must've disappeared. I can still track Ben though." He lead the way through the halls. Mal looked at all of the marks on the walls. They were claws. Mal was starting to think maybe it was Rose who was helping Audrey.
"Ben!" Mal called out again. She hoped for a response, but there was silence. Opening the doors to the armor room, she was surprised nothing was their except for the knights. A few swords and shields were all the remained on the walls.
Harry ran his finger across a blade. Jay watched him closely. "I can feel you looking," Harry said as he looked at his fingers.
"Good," Jay said in a low voice next to the pirate's ear. Harry rolled his eyes under his dark eyeliner.
"So you can track cuddle and talk," Gil was petting Dude. He was amazed at the dog's abilities. He never had a pet growing up, but now he wished he did. He turned to Carlos "do you think his puppies would be able to talk too?"
Carlos turned to him and tried to act friendly. "Alright man," he clapped Gil on the back,"He's taken. But if you want a pet you can go to the shelter and adopt."
Dude started to laugh. "Talking puppies? What?" Celia made a smack noise with her lips. Evie had instructed her to stay on they steps while they looked around. At least she could play with the dog. "Oh she looks nice." Dude ran over to her.
Evie kept up with Mal and Uma the best she could. Mal had put a sped healing spell on her leg, but it doesn't heal instantly. She walked up onto the wooden circle pedestal. She couldn't help but look at the ring on her finger. She was still so confused, but she knew now wasn't the time to be asking about it. She made it her new mission to make both sides of the group get along. She didn't know if she would even be alive if they didn't team up last time.
"I bet you lost some sleep thinking about me being out there," Uma flipped her hair back.
"Dragons don't lose sleep," Mal taunted. "I wondered what fried octopus tastes like." Uma laughed.
"Guys can we not-" Evie stepped down from the pedestal and stood in between the two.
"We're celebrating our differences," Uma had cut her off. She shot Evie a nasty look. It Made Evie feel hurt. She was only trying to help the cause. They wouldn't be a team unless they worked together. Carlos was at her side now, but he was looking at something else.
"I believe we're being challenged." Harry tapped on Uma's shoulder, but she flicked it away. Evie didn't follow Carlos' eyes, only the conversation.
"I say let's split up and look for Audrey," Uma took a step closer to Mal.
"That makes no sense," Mal reasoned and stuck a finger out at Uma. "Unless you give me my ember she's going to spell you." Carlos grabbed Evie's arm as the clang of metal turned their attention to the standing knight. Pink dust rose from its mouth.
"You want a prince Mal?" Audrey's voice came from it,"How about a knight in shining armor? Or should I say knights." She laughed as the knight began to swing its sword around and step off its display platform. Mal gasped as it pointed the sword at her. They all fell back as the others around the room did the same. They gathered around the wooden circle pedestal.
"Watch your back!"
"Watch your back!" Celia grabbed Dde and fell back into her nook.
"Gil!" Uma pointed to where the swords were. Gil threw her a sword. She was standing on top of the pedestal and Mal joined her. She was the lead of this team, not Uma. Jay handed her a sword. Uma tried to give orders but Mal cut her off.
"You take the left,"she instructed Uma,"The rest of you follow me!"
"No way," Uma pulled her away from Carlos and Jay.
"This is my crew." Mal tried to reason.
"This is my squad,"Uma pointed to Harry and Gil.
"This is my turf." She shot back.
"Stop it!" Evie called. "You're going to get us killed. Right now we're on the same side. Until the night falls everyone." Uma and Mal nodded and jumped off into action.
"We'll stay together til the battle is done!" They all chanted. The fight had begun. Swords were clashing into each other's. They didn't know how to defeat these magical knights, but their had to be a way.
"It doesn't mean that we're on the same side!" Uma defended as she disarmed a knight for a moment.
"Keep your swords steady!" Mal instructed. She and Uma took on three at a time. Taking one together then separating against the other two. Uma saved Mal from nearly getting cut from a knight's blade. "I'll cause a distraction! Take them by the side." She lay on the ground and Uma took out another one. and helped Mal up to her feet.
Mal jumped up on a platform and battled against one. She then rolled over its back onto the floor. "I'll hit them fron the front!" Uma called. "You counter from behind." Mal pushed down the knight and clanged swords with Uma. "Don't forget the fate of Auradon's on the line!"The two exchanged smiles. Mal had to admit, they made a pretty good team.
"They got us outnumbered!" Jay called, but Evie came to defended him. In this act, the knight's sword cut close to her hand, sending the ring off of her finger. She gasped as it rolled into the fight. She would have to get it later. She kept batting the knight in front of her. Having limited movement, she tried her best not to get anymore injuries.
"We are not going under. We will never run for cover!" Mal encouraged them as they gathered around the circle pedestal.
"We battle for victory!" They all chanted as they went back to the fight. Evie stood on the pedestal, her leg was hurting. She used this time to looked for her ring, but there was so much happening she couldn't pin point its location.
The knights had become more clever. They had taken the shields off the wall. Carlos was caught off guard by this and the knight took advantage of it. The sword left his hand and slid across the room. Celia watched and leapt into action. She got a shield down from the wall and lid it on the floor to Carlos. He caught it and used it to defend himself. Jay was running up to him, and Carlos used the shield to bounce Jay up. The son of Jafar flipped in the air and continued fighting alongside Harry and Gil. Carlos then slid across the room and retrieved his sword. He helped Evie fight off several knights.
They all fought off the knights into a corner where they all marched. Mal and Uma were standing in front of the group, ready to give a final blow. "Use your swords together!" A voice had called. Mal and Uma both hit the knight's sword. This sent a shock through them all. They stopped their dancing and stood straight. Mal knew this wouldn't last long. "Cast a spell!" The same voice called again.
"Suit of armor, strong and true," Mal's eyes glowed,"Make this metal bust a move!" She got up on the pedestal and began to sway her hips. The knights began to copy her moves. Uma got up there and started dancing herself. Only this time, she began to sing. Mal felt her own mouth open to sing the same tune. They both looked at each other confused. They weren't doing this willingly.
Suddenly, Carlos got up on the platform and harmonized. Mal looked around alarmed to see Evie and Celia singing as well. The knights suddenly stepped apart to reveal someone Mal thought she would never see here. Rose's eyes were glowing pink as she held her hands out. Her expression was smug. A sword was strung around her over her blue leather jacket. Her metal cuffs had pink cracks along them. She was the one doing this.
The nights continued to dance away from Rose as she strutted closer to Mal. The girls continued to sing as they made room for Rose to step onto the pedestal. The boys were dancing around like the knights. Fear and hatred rose up in Mal as Rose lifted her chin with a finger and grinned. The lost princess twirled as they all stopped singing. When she pointed to Evie, she sang.
Evie: Until the night falls you can trust
Uma: I'm going to help you win this battle because
All: I've got your back. Got your back. All for one and that's a fact. Night falls pitch black
Rose threw out her arms and a pink fire blew over them all. The knights all fells down and became lifeless again. Mal was no longer held in place. She held her stomach as she breathed in voluntarily. She looked around to see the others were doing the same. Mal was ready to fight Rose. She stopped when Rose folded her arms. Her eyes were trained on the daughter of Maleficent. Her voice seemed to echo in the silent room.
"Glad to see nothing's changed. Did you miss me?"
