87. Acceptance

"Shit! Why do women have to be so damn complicated?" Harry complained at breakfast. The vampire women in the room laughed.

"We're not complicated, Harry," Rosalie said. "It's called using our brain. Something that you, men, rarely do."

"Did she agree to go?" William asked his twin brother.

"Yes… but she has one condition." Harry looked at Rosalie and Edward. "She won't go unless her siblings go too and…"

"She doesn't have the kids' custody." Edward finished.

"Can you help?" Harry asked.

"Consider it done," Rosalie said confidently. "Come on, Ed. We have a case to win."

"I'll call Pat," Bella announced. She and the other vampires went to the living room.

"So… no make-up sex?" William teased his twin brother.

"You do realize that she's pregnant, right?" Harry rolled his eyes.

"All the better… you don't need to worry about anything."

"She told you?" I asked.

"She told me." Harry looked at me intensely. "You should've told me what you were planning on doing."

"She would eventually leave this house with Norah and Ryan. Her pride wouldn't allow her to stay here if I were gone. And she doesn't feel safe with the Cullens. I told her the truth so she wouldn't go back to live with her ex-boyfriend."

"I know… but you should've talked to me first."

"Sorry."

"I had to fake surprise. Can you imagine? I was the first to notice that she's pregnant and I had to stare at her and pretend I didn't know."

"Did you cry?" William teased again.

"No. But she did. Just like Rhea." He admitted.

"It's the hormones. Get used to it. It's annoying as fuck… but sometimes it's kind of cool. Rhea says that her hormones made her turn into a better cook."

"Too bad you can't try anything she cooks," I said.

"Who said I can't?"

"You're not supposed to see her."

"I can see her whenever I want. I just need to be sure I'm not caught." My brother grinned.

William would never follow any rules imposed on him. That was his nature.

"But you're off the hook, right?" I turned to Harry.

He nodded.

"Thanks." Harry whispered.

"We should go," Isaac said. "Mom and dad want us to be present when they speak to the Council."

I wanted to go too but I knew no one would allow me, so I let them leave. Harry and Isaac left with Carlisle, Edward, Alice, and Jasper. William was staying. He was banished from La Push for now. And even though he just told us that he intended to keep on seeing Rhea, I knew that he would not try anything during the day.

"You're tense." He told me as we walked back to the house after watching Harry and Isaac leave. "Are you having second thoughts about going to the Makah Res?"

"No. I need to go to the Makah Res." I replied. "But I wanted to… I feel that I need to be in La Push right now."

"Why?"

I thought about what to answer. William wouldn't understand. No one would ever understand.

"I want to talk to someone," I admitted.

"I thought you and him are over." William rolled his eyes. "You have to move on. You know he's with Ella, don't you? Why do you keep doing this to yourself?"

"It's not Jay! It's Levi, alright?"

"That's even worse. Forget it!" He turned his back on me. "Why do you need to speak to Levi again? Haven't you two spoken enough?"

"I owe him."

"Owe him what? He would've raped you, just like the others. He didn't go after you just because he was concerned about your wellbeing, he went after you because he saw a chance to mate with you. He attacked me! He wanted to get rid of me and Harry and if he had succeeded things would've turned really bad for you! So stop seeing him as your fucking hero, because he's not! Dad was! Harry and I were! Not Levi Uley!"

"I don't remember any of that!"

"I can show it to you. Carlisle told me you have a gift… you can see the past, right?"

I nodded.

"It only happened twice. And with Season."

"Let's try then." William sat down on the stairs of Alice's manor and pulled me down to sit beside him. "I'll show you exactly what happened."

I held his hand but five seconds passed and nothing happened. Then all of a sudden the images started to flow and I saw everything through my brother's eyes. I saw myself getting up all dirty from the forest floor. My eyes were silver and Levi was fighting Harry and Will. There was a fury in him that I hadn't seen in any other wolf. And then I felt it too. The fury, the want, the need. I had to do something. His wolf was calling mine.

So I went, I joined the fight and I hurt Harry but I felt no regrets. I mean, my wolf didn't. She wanted Harry and William out of the way and she was going to do anything to have what she wanted. And then as fast as it started, it stopped.

"Did you feel it? Did you see how violent he fought?"

I nodded.

"Do you still want to go talk to him?" He asked.

"Yes."

"Really?"

"Yes," I repeated. "It will be the last time. I promise."

William nodded and then we went to tell Esme that we were going to the woods so Will could teach me how to become a better tracker.

"We can't phase, so we'll run in human form." He told me. "Follow me and stay away from houses and roads. If you find a wild animal don't stop to watch it, just let it go. If you see someone, just run faster."

"Okay."

"We need to leavecLa Push before Carlisle and the others come back."

"Right."

So we ran. I didn't even take notice the way we were going, I just followed my brother back home, only we didn't go to our place, but to the Uley's.

Emily was leaving with Ella when we arrived at the tree line that separated the Uley's property from the woods. They were probably going to the store. As they left my brother's phone vibrated and he looked at the screen with a worried expression.

"What's going on?"

"Rhea needs to see me."

"Is she alright?"

"She didn't say."

William was nervous. I could tell. He didn't want to leave me there but he was also worried about Rhea.

"Go to her," I told him.

"I can't leave you here alone. I'm not that stupid, Sarah."

"I'm not in danger. Levi is still hurt, and I'm only here to talk to him."

"I believe you, but I don't trust your wolf."

While we were arguing, another car parked in the driveway.

"Isn't that… Morris?" William asked.

I turned around and recognized Jay's car immediately. I couldn't stop feeling jealous and angry. I had left La Push only a few days ago and it seemed that he was already a regular guest at Ella's place. I guess I shouldn't feel that way because we were officially over and Jay had the right to move on as he pleased but I couldn't believe he was moving on so fast. I mean we had made plans together once and he had told me he loved me countless times but four days without me and it was like I had never existed in his life.

"Well, I guess I can't talk to Levi until Jay's gone," I said. "You go and see what Rhea wants and I'll stay here waiting."

William eyed me suspiciously.

"Look, if you want to go back to Grimes Creek before the others, you have to hurry. They have like twenty or thirty minutes on us. Who knows how long will they be held at the meeting?" I added. "I promise I won't move from this spot until you arrive."

William moved nervously and after making me swear again that I would wait for him, he left running.

Then I turned my attention to what was happening in the Uley's household. Jay was still at the door. He had already knocked twice. Levi knew who was at the door but he was choosing to ignore him.

"Come on, Uley!" Jay yelled. "I know you're in there!"

Levi got up from the couch and walked slowly towards the door, opening it with force and startling Jay.

"My sister went shopping, come back later!" Levi turned around and closed the door on Jay's face.

"I want to talk to you!"

"I'm listening."

"Can you at least open the door?" Jay asked.

"I'd rather not. I'm really not in the mood to see your ugly face, Morris."

"Fine, I'll open it myself." Jay let himself inside the house much to Levi's discontentment.

"You're trespassing."

"You look better," Jay commented trying to sound friendly.

"I'll always look better than you, even if a truck runs me over." Levi joked. "So what do you want?"

"Is it true? Are you going to Canada with Harry?"

"He's my alpha. He orders, I follow. You know how it works."

"That's not what I heard. I heard that you fought an alpha command. So that means you have an option."

"I don't remember anything about that."

"Right…" Jay didn't believe him.

"Are you insinuating I'm a liar?"

"No."

"Good. Now that I answered your curiosity, you can leave. I need to take my medicine and sit down."

"You need help?"

"Not from you."

"Look… I'm not here to piss you off or argue. I'm here to thank you. You did what I should have done. You protected Sarah and saved her from all the other wolves that went after her. I feel like shit when I think about what could've happened if you hadn't been with her."

"Stop right there, Morris. I didn't save her. Her father and the twins did."

"The rumors say you shot EJ and Quinn to protect her and you fought the White pack…"

Levi remained in silence even though he could simply say that the rumors were true. Because he had done that and much more.

"Rumors also say you imprinted." Jay said.

"Yeah, that's right."

"I don't believe you, Uley."

I couldn't believe it. How could Levi have an imprint and I didn't know about it? And why was I so upset about it?

"When did that happen? And eho is the lucky girl?" Jay asked.

"Does it matter?"

"You're lying. I don't know who started this rumor, but it's not true because I know the look on a man's eyes when he's imprinted. And you don't have it."

"Fine! I haven't imprinted on anyone!" Levi admitted. "I said that because everyone kept asking me how was I able to fight against my wolf's lust!"

I let go a sigh of relief even though I didn't know why. Levi was a wolf and he could imprint at any moment and it wouldn't be any of my business. I didn't even like him. I was grateful for what he had done for me but that was it.

"I see… and how did you do it?"

"I don't know! I have no idea how this wolf shit works! But I wasn't going to let anyone put their hands on her!"

"Are you in…"

"I'm not! Stop assuming shit you know nothing about!" Levi yelled. "You want to know what really happened? I fucked up! I thought I was different from the other wolves, but I'm not! So, in the end, I would have hurt her. She was not safe with me. I'm an asshole who was very close to raping a seventeen-year-old girl! Now that you know this, please leave me alone, alright?"

"You really are an asshole, Uley. An asshole who can't confess his own feelings. I suggest you do something about it."

Jay silently closed the door behind him and then he drove away. For a moment, I wondered what to do. I had promised Will not to move while he was gone but this was a great opportunity to speak to Levi without anyone's interference. Besides, if his family came back I would have gone there for nothing.

This time I had come here to tell Levi that I was sorry about everything he was going through. I wanted him to know that he was not alone and that he didn't have to go to Canada if he didn't want to.

If I could change my mind about living with the Cullens, he should be allowed to do the same. So, I went there. Because I wanted to take that out of my chest.

William is going to kill me.

The first two steps I took were unsure but I had made up my mind. I had to do this. My wolf was happy to be there. She wanted to see Levi. Actually she wanted to do inappropriate things with Levi. But I pushed those thoughts to the back of my mind.

Stop being such a horny bitch. I told my wolf spirit and I knocked on the door waiting for a grunt in response but instead, there was a shout of indignation.

"What the fuck are you still doing here, Morris?" Levi opened the door so fast I felt the air moving around me.

"Black?" He blinked his eyes, probably wondering if I was actually standing there or if I was a hallucination.

He's a lot taller than four days ago. And he seems a lot stronger too. He would make the perfect mate.

My spirit wolf was trying to sabotage my plan, but I was not buying that.

"Don't be so surprised, Uley."

"I thought you were living with the vamps."

"I thought you were in bed, healing."

"I guess we were both wrong." He grinned. "So, what are you doing here?"

I'm here because my wolf spirit wants to jump your bones.

"I'm sorry about everything." I started.

"Didn't we have this conversation before?"

"Just hear me out, please. The Council has no right to punish you. You didn't do anything wrong, okay? They can't force you to follow Harry to Canada. They wanted me to stay with the Cullens because they think I'll be safer that way, but I don't want to be with them. I want to go somewhere else."

"You're Jacob and Leah's daughter. You just need to ask them and they'll let you do whatever you want but me… I'm nobody. They don't want a rogue wolf around and I'm just the guy who almost raped you… so I guess Canada is not so bad."

"Stop saying that!"

"The fact that you don't remember, doesn't mean it didn't happen. I wish I could go back in time and don't let my wolf take over but I was weak."

"I remember, okay?"

"If you remember, you know you shouldn't be here. You shouldn't be anywhere near me."

"You were not going to hurt me, Levi!"

"Yes, I would. My wolf wanted it. My wolf wanted to mate with you."

"So did mine!"

Shit. I wasn't supposed to say that.
