An: Short of words but A LOT happens in this chapter. Its the fight and I made it more dramatic for you guys! What can I say, I love to write drama. Enjoy.
Creator of Magic: Rose has gone through a lot of development. I put her parents there because I think it was what put her over the edge of becoming something that resembles normal. The Sword of Enchantment will be explained more later. Rose's powers were charged through it because she is becoming worthy of its powers. I know you'll like this chapter's ending. Can't wait to see what you think! As for Uma and Harry, Uma is just so not used to romance. Its hard for her to put trust into another person, especially with Harry, who she already trusts. But Love is just different. She'll warm up eventually. After the battle I'm going to write up to Mal's wedding. Because I think we all deserve to see what happens after everything happens. Enjoy!
NymhadoraTonks: Mal is going to get outed this chapter. I made it a little more harsh than it needs to be, but she's got support. You'll see what I mean. Yes! Rose is back this chapter. Can't wait to hear what you think!
THANK YOU BOTH!
Audrey sat on the throne. She had watched it all. Rose running away, and Ben getting on his knees to sob. She laughed at the sight. She had successfully drove a family apart. The girl smiled maliciously at her actions. Everything had fallen into place. There was no way the teens could stop her now. Not like they had a choice. She was too powerful for them anyway.
She stood up when she realized her army was to be ready. Audrey walked down from the throne. She had gone to the tallest tower where glass bulb was on a pedestal. It was ever swirling with many colors magic. She had used it as a source of her magic. She had drained the magic from every magic source available in the museum. They really had terrible security there. Like it matter anyway, the guard was under her sleeping spell. The only people who weren't were Mal and her friends.
As she waved her staff over the glass ball, green magic floated from the captor. "My army shall be ready, but will Mal?" Audrey asked herself. She slammed down her scepter. The green magic went down into the ground, but then began to grow. Briers everywhere began to grow, but not just any briers, these made dragons. Lethal thorn dragons. She had already set traps for Mal and her friends, and she couldn't wait until Mal had finally fallen the way she was supposed. Not by a simple sleeping spell, but by Audrey's hand.
As the creatures grew, Audrey commanded them to guard the magic source. She then commanded a wall of thorns to grow around the boarders of the castle. Mal wouldn't have it easy, and neither would anyone else. She laughed to herself. Slamming her scepter down again, pink lightning filled the sky, along with a roar from her thorn dragons. After tonight, everything was to be hers.
Stretched out along the woods, knights of blue armor had been traveling for the last three days on foot. Only having swords as their weapons, their leader had not given up hope. The team was tired, but they moved forward. Wearing masks of magical repellent, they had survived the sleep curse. The leader was wise and had prepared for anything and everything. And because of the brilliance, it would be up to them to save Auradon from this peril.
As they drew close to what they knew as the Fairy Cottage, a roar echoed across the sky. Pink lightning scatted along the clouds. The team stopped and looked up. A sickening laugh rung in their ears. The trees were slightly shaking. "Everyone down!" the leader had commanded. The men ducked under bushes and trees.
Looking up to the sky, a ball of pink fire flew downward. It crashed not far from them. After a few moments, the team resurfaced from their hiding. They ran towards where the magic ball had hit. Their weapons drawn, they hid along the tree line. They were ready to strike, but then they saw a girl running to them. The leader held up a hand, commanding the men to hold their positions.
The leader knew this girl to be Rose. She had been running past them, she was not attacking. She still had the magical cuffs on her forearms, but she had a sword strapped to her back. When she passed, the captain rose to their feet. "What do you want us to do?" asked a team member.
The captain raised their mask to reveal her face. Lonnie's brown eyes looked over her men. "We stick to the plan. Save Auradon. Let's go."
The crew had left Evie's mother's old castle. Ben had stopped crying, but there was still something distant to him. Mal could tell he was focusing on the mission, which she should be too. And yet her eyes stay on him. They were in the forest now. Mal had transported them part of the way, but it was hard to how and where to stay out of Audrey's sight.
"Why don't we stop at Fairy Cottage?" Mal told more than suggested to the group. "We could find some clues to what Audrey's done to the castle." Everyone nodded. "Ben? You're going to have to lead the way."
"Alright," Ben agreed. The group walked on. Jane and Celia were up front, Uma on her own, Carlos and Evie holding hands in the middle, while Jay, Harry and Gil tagged in the back. Everyone was quiet, which was almost worse than being loud. There was just a dull awkwardness hanging among the team. It was getting darker by the minute. Mal thought about when the night falls, they alliance would be over. The lies had not come out yet, Mal didn't know if she could keep them up. She was just stuck in the middle.
There was a sudden roar that echoed over them. Pink lightning danced across the sky. Everyone jumped at the surprise. Harry had run up by Uma, but she hardly noticed him there. When there was another boom, Uma grabbed Harry's hand instinctively. Once the ground stopped its small shake. Uma looked to Harry, who squeezed her hand. She suddenly let go as they continued their journey.
When they neared the cottage, each member hid behind trees. Mal held the ember in one hand, and Ben's hand in the other. This could be it. She could still be there, although its unlikely. She looked over to Uma, who was hiding with Harry, she kept her eyes on the cottage and away from everyone else. Mal took a deep breath before she said quietly. "Let's go."
They all snuck up between the bushes. When they got to the gate, Mal's heart rate began to quicken. She licked her lips as Ben opened the gate. They all congregated by the door. Mal took another long breath. It was time. Together, she and Ben opened the door quickly. When they entered the small hobble, they gasped no one was there. There was nothing there.
Everyone looked around. Jay and Carlos went upstairs to check it out. Mal's feet made a crack. She lifted her foot to see broken glass. "I wonder how that happened." Mal said out loud. She squeezed the ember, taking in some power.
"No one's upstairs," Carlos said as he and jay came down the steps.
"Well I guess this was a waste of time," Harry said with a shrug. There was a sudden knock. Everyone looked to the front door, but then the knocking came from the closet door. Ben moved to it and opened the door. Chad was sitting there with his arms hugging his legs. He looked up to Ben.
"I-is this r-real?" Chad asked with a shaking voice.
"Are you alright?" Ben helped Chad to his feet. He exchanged glances with everyone in the cottage. He was shaking.
"She's done it. She's overthrown everything," Chad said in a quiet voice. "You have to run! I have to run!" He made his way to the door, but then disappeared in pink flames. Audrey's laugh echoed through the cabin.
"I don't know how you escaped, Mal," Audrey's voice chuckled. "But I know you can't escape the lies you've been telling. I'm waiting." The voice remained quiet. How did Audrey know? It was impossible.
"What lies?" Uma asked.
"She's just trying to pull us apart," Mal shook it off. "We have to stick together and go to the castle." Without any further discussion, the group made their way towards the castle. Mal was nervous, but at least Ben's hand was comforting. They were passing the enchanted lake when Ben spoke.
"You know you never told me how you all teamed up," Ben walked a little slower. Mal was about to explain with the sword fighting and how Rose saved them, but Evie talked first.
"Mal promised all of the kids could get off the Isle once this is over," Evie smiled brightly. Mal stopped walking. Ben had let go of her hand. Her stomach had felt a nervous pinch. She turned around and faced the group. All looked confused except Ben, he looked hurt.
"Did you really, Mal?" Ben asked. He was the only one who had known the truth. She didn't know what to say. All there was for noise was the water fall behind them.
"What do you mean, did she really?" Uma crossed her arms.
"I lied," Mal said quietly. All attention turned to her. "I lied to you all." Hurt faces spread across them all. Evie especially. "The kids won't be coming off the Isle."
"What do you mean?" Jay's voice was soft.
"The program is shut down and the barrier will be closed," Mal took a deep breath," For good" She could feel tears beginning to form in her eyes.
"For Auradon's safety," Ben added. Uma was no longer confused. She was angry, and scared.
"You're going to take me back?" Uma whispered.
"Uma I never want-" Mal started.
"YOU want to take me BACK!" Uma yelled. "What about us, Mal? I thought we were finally a team!"
"We are a team and I-" Mal was cut off again.
"No Mal!" Uma said with wet eyes. Her voice was soft. "I should've never trusted you from the start. You're always just out for yourself." With those words, Uma turned and ran. Harry and Gil watched her. They didn't know if they should follow. They only looked stunned. Everyone was.
"Uma!" Mal called, but the sea witch was gone. There were sniffles coming from the group. Mal looked to see Celia crying into Jane. "Celia," Mal said softly. "I'm so sorry. "
"I thought you were brave," Celia walked towards Mal. "But you're nothing the selfish daughter of Maleficent." Celia threw herself at Mal. Mal didn't know how to respond. The other's called Celia to stop, but it was too late. Celia had got hold of the ember and threw the blue stone into the Enchanted Lake.
"No!" Mal gasped she jumped into the lake and found it under the water. She coughed from holding her breath too long. Ben helped her out. "Regain your mite and ignite!" The stone didn't glow. Mal let tears drop down her cheeks. "No." She looked to see that Harry and Gil were still standing there, but Celia had left.
She looked to Evie. "Evie...I'm so sorry. I needed to protect Auradon and I didn't want to loose you." The blue hair princess walked up to her. Mal had to make her understand.
"Closing the barrier was your idea?" Evie asked calmly.
"Yes, but I wanted protect the life we have here. Our life th-"
"Our life?!" Evie's own eyes were watering. "What about the kids that we left behind on that island. You can't pretend like they'll be alright. We promised them. We were their only hope, Mal."
"Evie I-"
"Don't," Evie heled up a hand. Mal let a tear fall. "I can't even look at you right now. I don't even know who you are. I thought you were going to help those kids, but instead you lied to them, just like you lie to yourself." Evie walked back to Carlos. Tears were streaming down his freckled face. He held out his arms for Evie, and she accepted the embrace.
Mal then looked to Jay. Her heart stopped for a moment. Jay looked so hurt. He was like her big brother. She should have told him. They were her family, and she lied to all of them. Ben stared at her. At least he knew why she did it. He opened his mouth to say something but there was a flash of light. With a crinkle of forming rock, Mal looked to see everyone still standing there, but in stone statues.
"No!" Mal sobbed. Her heart pinched. She had never felt so hurt. And yet, it was she who hurt them. She fell to her knees and put her face in her hands. There was no going on after this. She was hopeless. There was nothing she could do. No ember, no friends, no hope. It was over, and it was all her fault.
Suddenly, a slow clap had echoed through the forest. Mal gasped and looked up. Her tear streamed face turned to see where the sound was coming from. Walking out behind a tree with a amused expression on her face, was Rose. She continued to clap until she was a few feet from Mal. "Great performance, but I'm afraid the final curtain has not dropped just yet."
"Rose," Mal was filled so many emotions. She didn't even know what to think. She was just overjoyed that she wasn't all alone. Rose held out a hand. Mal grabbed it and Rose pulled her to her feet. Mal immediately wrapped her arms around Rose. At first, the second born of the beast family didn't know what to do, but then she slowly returned the embrace.
When they parted, Rose crossed her arms. "I saw what happened. You really got yourself into this one."
"Can say much for yourself," Mal crossed her arms. "You left us by choice?"
"I had some soul searching to do," Rose held onto the strap that held the sword. "But I came back didn't I?"
"It seems to be a habit of yours," Mal raised an eyebrow.
"Well, we all know why," Rose turned. She gazed at Ben's statue. "You know I think you put too much on yourselves. Always seeking for other's approvals. But I now I know I don't need any of your approval, because I am Rose, and I am never going to change for you."
"Then why are you here?" Mal asked. She was a little skeptical. She thought Rose had joined Audrey, but obviously, she had been proven wrong.
"Because I changed for myself, and so should you," Rose looked at her. "Its your life Mal, stop lying to yourself about what everyone else wants you to be. Be true to yourself. Turns out, it's you who's not awake. So if there's a change you wanna make-"
"Take Once upon a time she fought a dragon. Once upon a time that beast was m-" Mal had been singing, but Rose held up a hand. Mal was confused, the song had just come to her. It was how she would deal with her emotions.
"Um, can we not do that right now?" Rose raised an eyebrow. "What is with you guys and singing, anyway?" Mal dropped her outstretched arms and glared at Rose. After no response, Rose continued. "Anyway, I was going to say if there's a change you want to make, do it for yourself, not for the pleasing of other's."
"Thanks Rose," Mal nodded. "So this change you speak of, you're going to help fight?"
"Yep," Rose looked to Mal. "And I'm not backing down." Mal reached for her cuffs, but when Mal tried to undo her spell, it didn't work on the cuffs. They were as solid as the ground beneath them. She looked up at Rose, who shrugged. "I guess I'll have to do this the old fashion way." She tapped the strap strung around her body. Mal was surprised by this attitude, but she liked it. Together, the two turned from the stones and headed for the castle. And this time, Mal didn't have a single doubt in her mind.
