Hello I'm back two days in a row. This is my second Halloween story based on the game At Dead of Night this is probably one of my favorite horror games and I don't normally like horror. I wanted to write this story for months but unfortunately the game is not listed on this sight. This is why the story is under the Danganronpa and Kingdom Hearts crossover category. Anyway this story takes place after the events of the game where the main character Maya failed to get herself and her friends out of Sea View and are now missing. Danganronpa and Kingdom Hearts characters will also appear, it's my way of adding spice to the story and giving it a little more traction XD enjoy the story.

Chapter 1 The Call

The third eye is one of the most mysterious powers a person can hold. To be able to see or hear spirits is a gift most of us are born with. But, as we get older, the eye's powers begin to weaken, which is why special detective agencies were built to hone in and keep the powers from weakening, which is where I work. My name is Dakota Natalie. Along with my friends, we work for the "Saihara Kirigri Detective Agency." The agency specializes in ghost hunting and ordinary detective work. Shuichi Saihara's uncle founded the company. After his disappearance three years ago, Kyoko Kirigri took over. She's also Shuichi's aunt on his mother's side.

It was an early September afternoon; the dry season was upon us, which meant ghosts appeared less often. With less work to do, some of us were getting a little bored.

"Ugh, when is the phone going to ring?!" Emily Jones groaned, stretching her back, "We haven't had an interesting case in ages. If I don't get a juicy case soon, I… Am… Going… To…Scream!" She shrieked,

"Emily, knock it off." Her sister Amy spoke up, looking up from her book, "We go through this every year. The dry season lasts from summer to early autumn. During that time, ghosts appear less due to the days being longer. With that said, fewer clients call, and we have less supernatural work to do."

"Are you done?" Emily asked, crossing her arms and tapping her foot, "Because in the time it took you to explain that to me. I could already be dead."

"Oh, don't exaggerate." Mimi stated, coming forward, "I know you're frustrated, Emily, but be patient. I have a feeling we'll be getting a new case very soon."

As she said that the phone started ringing, we turned our attention to it, wondering who was calling.

"I got it. I got it!" Emily yelled excitedly,

"Emily, wait!" Cindy Johnson yelled, holding her hand out to stop the feisty girl. But it fell on deaf ears as Emily pulled the handset from its receiver.

"Hello, this is the Saihara Kirigri detective agency. Please state your name and business, and it better be supernatural-related!" The brunette demanded,

"Give me that." Amy snatched the phone from her sister and shoved her aside. "Hello, yes, sorry about that, my name is Amy Jones. What can I help you with?"

We waited in anticipation as Amy chatted with the potential client.

"Oh, you wish to speak with Kyoko Kirigri?" Amy questioned, "I'm sorry she's currently unavailable right now. But she left me in charge so if…." Amy paused as the client spoke on the other end, "Yes, I understand. Please hold." The ginger put the phone back and turned to us.

"So, what did they say?" Cindy's sister Chloe wondered,

"She said she would only speak to Kyoko Kirigri." Amy shrugged,

"That's odd. I haven't seen anyone want to speak to Kyoko specifically since the demon case last year." I pointed out we all shuddered as we recalled the house filled with demons Kyoko was set out to dispose of.

"I bet it was a prank caller." Kokichi Ouma voiced, "They've been frequent lately."

"No one asked you, Ouma." Emily snapped harshly, "And those prank calls were from you."

"Busted." He admitted hiding his face with the magazine,

"We should still see what they want." I stated, "It could be important. Does anyone know where Kyoko is?"

"I haven't seen her since she started her break." Cindy pondered, "But I do know who will."

"Way ahead of you." Mimi smiled, "Hey, Ouma."

"What's up, girl?" He questioned, looking up from his magazine, his purple locks bouncing as he did so. Even though Kokichi had childish looks, he was 17 years old and one of the top recruits next to Shuichi and us.

"Do you know where your boyfriend's aunt is?" Mimi asked sweetly,

"In the breakroom, with Shumai and Naegi." He answered matter-of-factually,

"Thanks, I'll go get her." I offered, leaving the room,

"You know I've always wondered how is Kyoko Shuichi's aunt? she's a Kirigri." Emily questioned,

"She's his aunt on his mother's side," Amy answered,

"Kyo has a sister?" Chole asked,

"She does. Shuichi's parents were some of the best ghost hunters this town has seen. They truly lived up to the family's name," Amy recalled,

"What happened to them?" The purple-haired boy questioned, "Shuichi doesn't talk about his parents much. Says it brings back sad memories."

"Apparently, they were killed during a case." The ginger frowned, "Something happened, and they acquired ghost touch that paralyzed them. They didn't recover and died a few hours later."

"Wow, I never knew that." Kokichi frowned, shaking his head now understanding why his boyfriend never talked about them,

"So that's how Shuichi got into his uncle's care, right?" Chloe checked,

"Yep, I heard he was only 12 when Detective Saihara took custody of him," Kokichi answered,

"And then his uncle disappeared four years later." Emily sighed, tapping her fingers on her desk, "I feel bad for Shuichi. He seemed close to his uncle."

"They were. I wished we knew the truth behind his disappearance." Kokichi frowned, trying to return to his reading but finding it hard to focus after the conversation.

I was slightly rushing to find Kyoko so the client wouldn't wait on hold for too long. Speed walking through the halls and passing by a few of my other friends, I hastily made my way to the breakroom where Kyoko, Shuichi, and Makoto Naegi were talking.

"Hello, Kyoko, Makoto, and Shuichi. Am I interrupting anything?" I questioned, making sure they weren't doing anything important,

"No, nothing special. Come on in, Dakota. We were discussing the recent cases we've been on." Makoto motioned me to sit down. I shook my head, remembering I had a job to do

"Sorry Makoto, I don't have to relax, Kyoko there's someone on the phone who wants to speak to you," I explained,

Kyoko went wide-eyed at that, "For me? I wasn't expecting anyone."

"Who are they, Dakota?" Makoto inquired,

"No idea." I shook my head, "She said she'd only speak to you, Kyoko. She's been on hold for a few minutes now."

"Well, we better see what she wants." The lilac-haired detective spoke, standing up, "Come on, you three, this could be your next job."

"Yes, Aunt Kyoko." Shuichi nodded as we left to return to the phone.

We returned to the others, and Kyoko wordlessly picked up the phone,

"Hello, this is Kyoko Kirigri. How may I be of assistance." She said,

We waited in silence as Kyoko listened to the request, we didn't usually listen to the conversation, but there was Something off about this one. The client seemed panicked.

"Yes, we do missing person reports state the individuals?" Kyoko questioned, "I see, Amy can you give me a pen and my notebook."

"Right away, boss, give me a moment," Amy answered, going to Kyoko's desk and grabbed the notebook with a pen resting on an empty page. Amy gave the book to Kyoko, and she gave a nod of gratitude.

"So, how many kids are missing?" Kyoko wrote down the information as the client spoke, "So, five teens, all around the ages of 16 and older, haven't checked in with their parents in five days? This doesn't seem like a call for concern; teens their age don't need you to hold their hands 24/7 anymore. What, they were attending a music festival? Last heard checking into a three-star hotel." Kyoko tapped her chin with the pen, taking in the information, as we looked at each other in confusion.

"Did you call the police?" Krigiri's voice was laced with worry now. Whatever was going on seemed serious. "Hmm, so that's why you called us. We'll send our best detectives to check it out. Yes, thank you for calling. We'll give you updates as soon as we can." Kyoko hanged up the phone and turned to us,

"What's going on, Kyo?" I asked, ready for anything,

"To put it simply, five missing teens. That was one of their parents. She hasn't heard from her daughter Maya in five days. The same is for the other four teens." Kyoko explained, pacing around the room,

"I hate to be that one person. But isn't this better suited for the police? We're private investigators, slash ghost hunters, wouldn't we be the last resort?" Emily questioned,

"Normally, yes. But they're out of jurisdiction. There's not enough evidence to prove a kidnapping or homicide. In other words, it's all excuses." Kiri frowned,

"In other words, the police are doing nothing." Kokichi spoke up, resting his chin on his hands, "As expected from those corrupted hypocrites." He mumbled,

"So that's why they wanted to speak to you." Makoto realized, "Hmm, seems kind of sketchy."

"I know, but the fear was genuine. Shuichi, Kokichi, I'm assigning you to this case. it's a six-hour drive, so I recommend you get ready ASAP." She instructed,

"Hold on, where are we going?" Kokichi asked,

"Sea View Hotel, it's located in a small British town, start from there then head to the location of the music festival you should be able to manage this case, correct?"

Kokichi nodded, but Shuichi seemed frozen with fear. His face was pale, and his hand was gripping Kokichi's hair.

"Ow, Shumai, you're pulling my hair!"

That seemed to snap him out of it. "What? Oh, sorry, Kokichi. I didn't realize I was hurting you."

"Shuichi, are you okay?" Mimi questioned, "I've never seen you act that way before."

"I'm fine. It's just I'm sorry, Kyoko, I can't do this. I promised myself never to go anywhere near Sea View." He explained,

"Why's that?" Cindy wondered. I turned to Kyoko for answers, and her eyes lit up like a lightbulb went off in her head.

"That was where Uncle Saihara was last seen. Oh, Shuichi, now I feel foolish." Kyoko looked remorseful as she remembered the day Uncle Saihara was presumed dead after failing to return home on his last mission.

"You know, I never knew what happened to your uncle Shuichi," Chloe spoke,

"Hey, Kyoko, mind elaborating?" Emily requested,

"Sure, sit down, everyone. It won't take long." We all sat around the table as Kyoko retold the disappearance of Detective Saihara.

"It all started with a simple rumor. It's been said Sea View Hotel is home to numerous ghosts and spirits. Uncle Saihara got word of this and decided to look into it. After a bit of freelance work, he took a trip to the infamous hotel. Unfortunately, it would be the last time anyone would see him. He didn't come home when he said he would or called to tell us he was delayed. We investigated after a week of silence. After three months of searching, we found out the hotel had a dark secret."

"What kind of dark secret?" Chloe trembled,

Kyoko sadly shook her head, "The hotel has had numerous murders in the last 20 years. With that information, we believed Detective Saihara was murdered during his investigation."

"Did you ever find the body?" Amy wondered, lips pressed in a thin line,

"No, at least not in one piece. Few months after we closed the investigation, local authorities called reporting, they found pieces of his body in a river, and that was the end of it."

I felt sick as Kyoko finished her story. I never met Shuichi's uncle, but the look of grief on his face told me he couldn't handle going to the place that took his uncle's life.

"How about we go," I suggested,

"You and your friends, are you sure, Dakota?" Makoto checked,

"Sure, I'm sure. A whole team would be better in case things are less straightforward." I pointed out,

"Are you sure you're up for it? This is the first case you've been on in a while; it may get spooky staying in a haunted hotel." Kokichi noted,

"A haunted hotel?" Emily shot up, "Of course we'll take it. I've wanted to go on a supernatural case for ages!"

"Guess it's settled then." Amy smiled knowingly, "Hey Kyoko, we'll be ready in 15 minutes. Mind getting the van ready for us?"

"Of course, make sure to update us while you're there." She requested,

"We wouldn't be working here if we didn't," Cindy stated,

"Alright, get your things, girls. We'll meet up in ten," Mimi ordered,

We scattered to our offices to grab our equipment. I was gathering my things when someone knocked on my door.

"Come in."

"Hey, Dakota got a minute?" Shuichi asked, picking inside,

"Of course, don't be shy. Sit down." I offered Shuichi to sit in my chair, and he did,

"So, what's on your mind?"

"It's just that I wanted to thank you for taking my place. The thought of going to that hotel makes me sick to my stomach, but while you're there, I have a request." He stated,

"You want us to find the truth of your uncle's death, don't you." I guessed kindly,

"Yeah." He blushed, hiding his face with his hat,

"It's nothing to be embarrassed about Shuichi. You've been in the dark about this for years. You deserve to have closure on his face; I'll do everything I can, okay." I reassured, placing my hands on his shoulders. He smiled gratefully. I hugged Shuichi just as Amy walked into the room.

"Ahem, sorry to break this touching moment, but we're ready."

"Okay, Amy, be there in a minute." I nodded, breaking away from the hug,

We all reassembled in the garage. Emily and Amy were placing our equipment in the company van. While I had one last chat with Kyoko and Shuichi.

"Are you sure you have everything you need?" Kyoko checked,

"Yep, according to Amy, she double-checked the list." I nodded,

"Do you have the emergency ghost hunting equipment?"

"Yes, it's always in the van."

"Good just checking." Kyoko nodded,

"Well, I guess this goodbye for now." Shuichi came forward and shook my hand,

"See you soon, Shuichi. We should only be gone for a week or two. Take care of Kokichi for me." I smiled,

"Aw, I wish you'd take me with you." Kokichi pouted, "Everything is so boring without you."

"Oh, don't worry, Koki Dough. I promise once we get back, I'll tell you all about it." I promised, patting his head,

"You better. I'm running out of good ghost stories to tell my D.I.C.E members." He said,

I smiled and hugged my precious child.

"Don't worry, sweety boy. I'll be fine," I said,

"Before you go, I have one more request," Kyoko said,

"What do you need, Kyoko?"

"Don't let Emily drive."

"Aw, man!" She yelled, "Come on. Please let me drive?" Emily pleaded,

"Emily, the only time I'll let you drive is if I'm paralyzed by ghost touch. And you're driving straight to the hospital." Amy replied dryly,

"Fine." Emily gave in and got in the back,

"Come on, girls, we've got a six-hour drive ahead, and I want to check in before midnight!" Mimi shouted,

"Coming Mimi, See you soon, guys." I waved goodbye to Kyoko, Shuichi, and Kokichi and got in the van as Amy started the engine.

"Remember, I already got you a reservation! Just say you're from the agency, and everything should check out!" Kyoko yelled to be heard over the engine. Amy gave her a thumbs-up, and we drove off. But little did we know the horrors we would face in just a few hours.
