Chapter 16 Shatter Me by Lindsey Stirling
"It's a curse. I just know it has to be." Emi spoke up from where she laid on the floor. This black out wasn't the same as from when she used most of her magical energy. This one was forced onto her as if someone or something didn't want her to discover the real reason behind the amnesia.
All eyes turned toward her as she slowly sat up with a groan. Nothing looked out of the ordinary from Laxus' point of view but then again he was slowly noticing things about her that he never took notice before. Like her smile getting lopsided when she laughs or trying to joke around with people. The way she would tug on some form of clothing or bite down on her pink lip when she's nervous or scared. Then there was how her hair almost reminded him of fire in the sun or her hiding in someone's shadow to limit her sun intake.
Looking down Emi's gaze took in the giant coat of Laxus as it pooled at her waist. Slowly she ran her hand across some of the fur as a small smile crossed her face. All she wanted to do was imagine herself curling up underneath it on a fall or winter day with him next to her. Even the image of her curled up on top of him with his jacket acting as a blanket was something, she wanted to act out but she knew it would never happen.
"A curse?" Claire's husband repeated as he stared at her. Who would want to put a curse on his wife?
Drawing herself back to reality, Emi slowly nodded. "It has to be or some sort of strong spell. Either way my memory recollection isn't strong enough or something is pushing back."
The older man shook his head and clasped his hands together out of worry. It was written all over his face with how his eyebrows furrowed causing his wrinkles to deepen. It was obvious he loved this woman deeply which made Emi feel slightly jealous. She wanted to feel that type of warmth but doubted it would happen.
"Possibly." She said as her hands traced a pattern in the fur. As much as she wanted to look at Laxus and get strength from his presence she couldn't. Taking a breath, she let her eyes close as she thought things through. "Like I said it could be a stronger spell that overpowered mine. Either way I'm not going to give up until I exhaust all my possibilities."
A soft snort of a laugh escaped the lightning dragon slayer as he watched her. That determined glint in her eye was back which honestly was a sight for sore eyes. The whole thing of her wallowing in self doubt and possible depression didn't suit her in the slightest.
"If its all right can I come back tomorrow and try again? This way neither of us get exhausted from it."
The older man nodded which was a blessing because Emi knew she needed to relax more after this.
