Well. Here is chapter 2. Setting a bit of a plot I guess. Next should have some action and some explanation regarding some things.
Chapter II: The Dawn
Louise did not know what to feel… should she feel anger? Sadness? Despair?
She just couldn't bring herself to even if she wanted. The Vallière girl just felt… empty.
She thought that maybe, just maybe she could prove she was not a failure of a mage. That the Summoning Ritual would show to all of her peers she was not a zero…
And she succeeded in summoning a familiar… only that she summoned a human which, after the initial surprise it only pushed the notion she was a failure…
And in her anger at summoning a human 'commoner' she ignored that he was a human being… more importantly, she ignored the comments of him being a mage by some of her peers and arrogantly tried to bind him, keyword "Tried".
She tried to bind and brand him only for the spell to backfire and bind her instead.
At that moment she wanted to shout at him in anger, to demand to undo the contract, to apologize for embarrassing her in front of her class. But, just before her anger could be unleashed onto him, it just, simply, vanished, as if it never existed.
And Louise didn't have it in her to bring that anger once more for, she knew… he had all the rights to reverse the spell…
She could only wonder what will happen next…
Will she be now expelled from the Academy because she failed to complete the ritual? Will she have to serve him as a servant? As a maid? Or worse… as a pet? Will she regain her independence? Her freedom? Will the headmaster help her? Will her family come to the rescue… or… will they disown her…? She honestly did not know… and there were so many possibilities…
She could only wait for this was something that never happened before… if what Professor Colbert was true…
And Louise now found herself with the said mage… her master in her room, sitting on the only chair and still having that smile plastered on his face.
'Is he finding this whole affair amusing? Exciting?' she thought to herself, 'I literally kidnapped him and became his familiar… yet, I have to hear him complain… or say anything at all…'
She sighed, deciding this silence was too unbearable for her and she had to know who her master was.
"You said your name is… Amon, correct?" she asked with a bit of reluctance in her voice.
"Yes." He simply answered, his smile growing a bit which only unnerved Louise.
'What is the deal with him? Why does he keep smiling like that…? And how did he reverse the binding? That should be impossible! Maybe… elves could with their strange magic? But he clearly doesn't have pointy ears! So… is he a mage who specializes in contracts or-"
"Elf?" He simply asked.
"Uh… Did I say it out loud?" she received a nod
"I am curious how do you know about elves?" He asked, leaning a bit forward with obvious interest to hear her response.
"How could I not?! They are the enemy of mankind!" Said the pink haired girl in obvious annoyance.
'Who didn't hear of elves!? Even the plebeians know about them! Does he take me as an uncultured child?! Ahh! Or is he testing me?! I can't tell!'
"Oh? Really? Now are they?" He said before pinching his right eye rim.
She sighed, realizing he wanted to continue on the elf topic. As much as it annoyed her she relented, not wishing to anger or displease her master.
"Yes," she answered, "the humans consider them as their enemy and I assume the opposite is true… since six thousand years ago when they betrayed The Founder, Brimir."
"Fascinating. This… Founder?"
'Sigh Now The Founder? I guess I have to indulge him…' She thought in defeat before opening her mouth.
"The Founder, as the name implies, he is the human who gave humanity the gift of magic… he is the human's God."
Amon did not reply for a few moments, seemingly deep into thought.
"You speak as if you are not human." He finally said to Louise.
"Of course not! I am an elf" She snorted, seemingly offended.
He did not respond, looking at Louise with a big smile on his face.
'How could he even mistake me for a human?! First asking about elves then Brimir and now this? Did this man live under a rock or he truly is a hermit in all but magic?! I'm a proud Tristanian elf since… since… I… what… since when I am an elf…' She thought as the color started to drain from her face at the ongoing realization in her mind.
With wide eyes she turned towards the mage in what could be considered abject horror and shouted.
"What did you do?! Who are you?! What is wrong with my brain?! I am human right?! I am not an elf?! I can't be! How is this even possible?!" And like this, the dam broke. Her fears, anxiety, anger, confusion and sadness all came out.
"Who I am?" he mused, "That is a philosophic problem you must solve yourself. And you already know half the answer."
Louise somewhat calmed down as she looked at the man with obvious confusion.
"I know half the answer?" She asked more to herself, not expecting an answer.
"My honorific name. And what I did to you? That is another mystery for you to solve. After all, what fun would there be if I tell you the answer?"
"…What?" She weakly replied.
"And it would be very interesting to see what answer you will come up with."
Louise just looked at him as if lost, finally starting to realize what type of person she summoned. And what type of person is her master… at least for now… she hopes.
"Please calm down Jean." Said Old Osmond while drinking a cup of tea.
"I can't calm down Osmond! The man Miss Vallière summoned is dangerous! Something is not right about him. And he, reversing the bonding contract removed all doubts there are to say otherwise." Replied a stressed Jean Colbert to the seemingly unconcerned headmaster of the Academy.
"And you are certain-"
"Yes! For the fifth time already Osmond! It should be impossible to reverse the binding! And even if it was manageable to do, it would invite concerns as bad if not worse than the current ones." He sighed, rubbing his tired eyes.
"Then we will observe him for now."
"I am not sure if that will be enough… but we will do as you say. Now, regarding Miss Vallière situation and status?"
"More paperwork…" The headmaster sighed.
Siesta was walking down the hallway, carrying with her a bowl with clothes that were in need of washing. Even if the majority of people were asleep, she still had her duties to carry before being able and allowed to lay in her bed.
The maid would have continued her walk if not for noticing a young man dressed in peculiar robes and wearing a pointy hat as if he was a mage from children's fairytales.
The mage was simply staring at the two moons, apparently lost in his thoughts.
Siesta was not sure what prompted her to make her presence known as she approached the young man, saying a bit awkwardly.
"H-hello."
The man turned towards the maid and with a small smile nodded back.
"It is a beautiful night. Don't you agree…?" He said before turning to look back at the moons.
"Siesta… and y-yeah I think so…" She replied, "If I might ask… what you are doing here Sir Amon?"
"Oh? You know my name?"
"Y-yes, I've heard people speak about you… being summoned by Lady Vallière and wearing a pointy hat."
"I see." He answered with a smile, "As for what I am doing here? Generally speaking that is a rather complicated question. But right now I am contemplating about many things, such as: what is humanity?"
"That is… philosophy? Are you perhaps a philosopher?"
At that, Amon slowly turned towards her, staring for a few seconds before letting a small chuckle escape his lips.
"No. But I might become one."
"Ah, I see… well, good luck finding your answers Sir." She said while doing a small bow and leaving the man alone.
"To Parasite…" "To not Parasite…" "To Parasite…" "To not Parasite…" "To Parasite…" "To not Parasite…" "To Parasite…" "To not Parasite…"
"To him, there's something more important than life.
To you, apart from yourself, there's nothing worth caring about."
"To not Parasite…" He muttered to himself.
And done. Finally, I managed to finish this chapter and I am somewhat pleased with how it ended up looking like. Maybe the last bit seemed out of character for Siesta or too rushed? Might return to it if there are complaints.
Also, thanks for the feedback.
