J.T. twiddled his pencil as Ms. Johnson went on and on about self-discovery and how a character can change during the story. It had to tie into the book the class had just finished reading, but J.T. wasn't paying much attention to the lecture until he thought he heard the word assignment.
His head shot up quickly, "Assignment?" he repeated causing the other students to giggle, and Sara who was sitting at the far side of the classroom shook her head, red braids whacking her shoulders.
"I'm so glad I finally got your attention, Mr. Taylor," Ms. Johnson said, "As I was explaining to the class, throughout the story the main character goes through a transformation, like Scrooge from The Christmas Carol, or Mary from Secret Garden, or just about any character in any book you read. Your assignment is to write a character analysis, for yourself, showing your development from the beginning of the school year to now. What were you like at the beginning of the school year, compared to what you like now? Who are your friends? What do you like to do? Has any of those things change?"
Sara rose her hand, "Do we have to do a presentation?" she asked, anxiously, tugging nervously on a braid.
"No," Ms. Johnson insisted, "The only person who has to read your essay is you, me and whoever proofreads it, and I promise that I will keep whatever you write confidential." she added, "As long as it isn't a threat to anyone's safety."
Several students let out a sigh of relief, including J.T., with Ms. Johnson grading them and them being able to ask anyone to proofread it, he didn't have to worry about leaving out a large chunk of his story, his time with the power rangers.
…
"Ugg," Mason groaned, as he pulled his backpack onto his shoulder as the bell rung, "I wish that we could have picked a character from a book to analyze it would have been easier."
"I think that was why Ms. Johnson didn't do that," Mark grunted.
"What am I going to write about," Sara asked, "Honestly I haven't changed that much."
J.T. and Melody turned to look at the red-headed pink ranger, "Haven't changed much?" J.T. echoed, "Have you forgotten our first meeting?"
"Our first meeting?" Sara repeated.
…
J.T. frowned at the look Sara was giving him if looks could kill that would be the look, "I should put my foot in my mouth, shouldn't I?" he asked, "Sometimes I say stuff before thinking. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings, honest. I just want to be friends. Forgive me?" he asked, holding out his hand once more to Sara.
Sara continued to frown, "I don't do friends," she announced, yanking the guitar case out of J.T.'s hand, and stomping into the building, leaving her suitcase behind.
J.T. grabbed it, and raced after Sara, "Don't do friends," he repeated, "Girl, you are like no one I've ever met before, doesn't do friends?"
…
Sara chuckled at the memory, "So I was a little antisocial when I got here," she confessed as they rounded the corner to the library.
Everybody froze, the room was a disaster, books and loose papers were scattered across the ground, the overstuffed chairs were overturned, stuffing oozing out of large slashes in the sides.
"What happened here? J.T. asked shocked, "How are we suppose to do our homework if the library is totally destroyed."
"We could always go to one of the study halls," Mason insisted
"First we need to find out what happened here," Frank insisted, "This looks like a monster attack,"
J.T. groaned, "Why, things were great, calm, we hadn't had a monster attack since Sara's birthday, why now?"
The rest of the team turned to look at him, "Look who's talking," Mason said with a laugh, "Mr. I'm so bored."
Mark blinked, "What's this about."
"Oh, it happened before you arrived," Mason explained to his roommate.
…
"Well then I'm going to find something super exciting to do," J.T. announced, "Living at school is the most boringest thing that I've done."
Frank rolled his eyes, "The same school that gets attacked by monsters at least once a week?"
"This is California, it was bound to happen eventually," J.T. insisted, shutting the door behind him.
…
Mark snorted, "J.T. was really that bad," he asked, "I mean I know that he doesn't pay attention in class very often but that seems insane."
"I guess Ms. Johnson was right about us changing over the course of the school year," Frank said, "I mean, look at me, I was scared of my own shadow when I first got here, and now I'm the leader of the power rangers."
...
"Talking isn't going to do us much good," Mark insisted, taking a look at one of the chairs, "Man this is ripped up badly," he insisted.
"We should head to the Encampment," Sara suggested, "Maybe Uncle Tommy or Ms. Johnson knows what kind of monster did this."
"When did everyone start calling Uncle Tommy Uncle Tommy?" Mason asked, glancing at his best friend who shrugged.
"I don't know, we just did."
"Do you really think we can deal with whatever did this damage?" Mark asked, "I mean, they have to have some major claws to cause these slash marks."
"Look at all these monsters we have taken care of," Frank pointed out, "To think we all started out as five teens hiding in a storage unit."
"You know," Sara said, staring at a bookshelf, "This shelf opens the passage to the Encampment, but the books been ripped out."
Mason glanced out a window, strangely whole compared to the rest of the room, "The closest entrance from here is the storage unit," he announced.
"We haven't been in there since we first became power rangers," J.T. announced, "Let's go."
"Remember when we first saw the Encampment," Frank asked.
…
Sara was still confused about what had happened, one minute she and the others had been fighting Dark Knights, the second the Dark Knights were fleeing from five full-fledged power rangers, her among them. After the Dark Knights had fled a purple ranger appeared, led them back into the storage unit, and opened a secret passageway y pulling the suit of armor's visor up.
The tunnel had been long and windy before opening up in a clearing of a forest, Tents surrounded them and in the center of the clearing was a large round table.
"Welcome to The Encampment," the purple ranger announced, "The meeting place of the Legendary Mystical Power Rangers, please sit down." With that, she gestured to the table.
Sara glanced at the table, before sliding into a pink chair, pulling her helmet off, which caused her uniform to transform back into the tunic and leggings from before.
Mason slid into the green chair, Frank into the red, Melody into the blue, and J.T. into the black one. The purple ranger, slid into the last chair, a purple one before removing her helmet.
"I'm Ms. Tammy Johnson, your English Teacher," she announced as her outfit disappeared to form a purple tunic and gray leggings.
"What just happened at School?" Frank demanded.
Tammy sat her shield on the table, "How familiar are you with the Legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table?"
…
Sara and the others emerged into the encampment, the tents surrounding them, "Uncle Tommy, Ms. Johnson?" she called out.
The silver tent flap moved as Tommy Oliver emerged from within, "What's going on?" he asked.
"The Library has been totally ripped about," Sara announced.
"Yeah," J.T. announced, "How come the Monster alarm didn't warn us of the attack."
"Something must be wrong with the monster alarm system," Tommy muttered, "Billy built it, so it should be able to recognize monsters unless it's humanoid."
"Why would they rip up the library?" Mason asked.
"They're looking for the Holy Grail," Tommy said, "We might want to double-check the defense mechanisms around it."
"How?" J.T. asked, "Do you know where it's hidden?"
"Don't you?" Tommy asked. All six teens shook their heads, none have them even thought to ask where the Holy Grail was.
"Mr. Knight never told any of us," a new voice called out as Tammy appeared, "But we have a situation, that monster's ripped up the whole school building, I had to use the entrance inside the Activity Center to get here."
"They've taken down our security cameras and are looking for the Holy Grail," Tommy announced.
"You know," Mason said, "Mr. Knight is the only one with the password to the security system, he's the only one who would know how to turn off the alarms."
"It is kind of odd that he wanted nothing to do with the power ranger team, even though he's a direct descendant of the knights of the round table himself," Ms. Johnson announced, "and he should know where the Holy Grail is."
"We still need to find that monster," Sara pointed out, "I say we split up, Frank?"
Frank nodded, "Sara's right, Uncle Tommy and Ms. Johnson should go talk to Mr. Knight and figure out how come the security system was disabled, the rest of us should look for that monster."
"What if Mr. Knight is the monster?" Mason asked, "I mean, evidence suggests that Morgana faked Sara's mother's death and been holding her captive, maybe the real Mr. Knight is being held captive."
"Mason has a point," Tommy announced, "Tammy and I will just have to be careful."
"Maybe some of us should look for the Holy Grail," Mark suggested, "You know someone might have seen a golden cup laying about."
"Like the cup that we got our gems from," Sara said slowly, "It's in the Storage Unit!" she jumped up, "Come on, the monster will show up in the storage unit eventually let's go."
