Chapter 9: The Imprisoned

Robbie's heart was pounding in his chest, as he sensed the ominous presence of Bloodwin circling around him impatiently. "Remind me why you have to observe the guardian in such an intricate manner!" he hissed. "Look, do you want this to work or not?" Robbie feigned authenticity as convincingly as he could. "Just explain to me what you are doing!" Bloodwin's eyes bore into him viciously. "If you are stalling for time…" Robbie took a deep breath.

"Well, since you asked so nicely! I am modifying the capacitors to a level of three fluxawatsins whilst augmenting the"- Bloodwin let out a frustrated huff. "Okay, you know what worm sorry I asked! I feel so sad for your pitiful existence playing with these stupid things! You Sheikah are all the same, abusing our precious magic on such rubbish. You lack so much vision. You are all going to suffer heavily when he returns!". "…What is he like?" Robbie pressed nervously.

"Nice try", Bloodwin hissed with an evil smile. "You will not live long enough to find out. Now shut up and continue searching for the rune to give us control of the beasts. I swear if you are not finished by the end of the day, the Redead is waiting!". Robbie gulped. He had spent most of his time so far, trying to think of a plan to escape. However, the crucial component of his plan which required fulfilling his captor's demands was still elusive. I do not even know how to give them what they want from me!

Poring hopelessly over tomes of ancient scripture, he translated to the best of his knowledge old symbols and diagrams seemingly related to the Sheikah tech. If the guardians and beasts are powered by trapped spirits, why would they even cooperate with the race that supposedly enslaved them? Robbie closed his eyes trying to recount all his work over the years on the Calamity and how it came to possess the guardians. The answer had to be in there, he just needed to find it. However, all his thoughts led to nothing. He exhaled shakily, resting his head in his hands.

Time is running out. What made the situation worse, was what Bloodwin had informed him of earlier on. Even if Robbie were to sacrifice himself by not cooperating, he was told this would merely be in vain as they would simply find another way to achieve their aims eventually anyway. His potential way was just a preferred quicker way. With a dreadful fate looming over him, he did not want to put their potential bluff to the test. Whether Robbie liked it or not, he was now temporarily working against Hyrule.

Elsewhere, Link and Zelda's caravan was rumbling along the long road towards Hateno with the gravely injured Impa. Link glanced back at Zelda in the caravan as she held Impa's hand with her head down and eyes closed, whispering inaudibly to her. Nayra was on the other side nuzzling into Impa's side lovingly, looking at her with sadness in her eyes and letting out a gentle whine as if she could sense the Sheikah woman's suffering. Impa looked bad, there was no polite way of saying it. Her breathing was laboured, occasionally disrupted by a pained whimper as the caravan went over a bump in the road. Link deep down felt that this was a lost cause, he just did not have the heart to tell Zelda. The vile creature that inflicted this upon her was nothing they had ever seen before. How could they be sure a remedy to it even existed? They dare not stop, lest one second of rest prove one second too many.

For most of the journey, Zelda said nothing. She just kept looking down at Impa with tears in her eyes, unaware of Link watching her. She kept silently berating herself for being so useless. This is all my fault, Impa stay with me please I cannot lose you, I must not! Why couldn't it have been me laying there instead?! In that moment, Link could tell how she felt. All he wanted to do was hold her and let her know everything was going to be okay. To kiss her back as she had done with him just a couple of hours ago. To feel her soft lips, caress his once more. He recalled the incredible spark of chemistry he had felt between them when she did that. It was like nothing he had ever felt before. All he knew now, was how badly he longed for her.

As he turned back around, Link panicked as a large piece of uneven ground lay before them. He was not able to stop the Oxenbeast in time who dragged them straight over a large drop in the road. Impa screamed out in pain as Zelda lurched over her. "Impa I am sorry, I am so so sorry!" she cried. "We are nearly there, whatever this darkness is I know you can fight it, you are so strong minded. Don't succumb to it!". Strong...mind...succumb...darkness. In that moment those words rang out repeatedly in Impa's dying mind. They felt so familiar but she couldn't make sense of why.

After what seemed like an eternity, they finally wheeled themselves through Hateno, coming to a stop outside the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab. Link and Zelda immediately worked together to haul Impa out of the caravan. Her distressing screams could be heard far and wide, leading concerned residents in the town below to come outside. So too, did Purah's small team of scientists who upon seeing Impa were ashen. "Goddesses, Impa!" one of them cried clutching her mouth. "Don't just stand there help them!" another woman barked hurrying over with a couple of men. Laying Impa on the ground, Zelda, Link and the scientists lifted her flat between them into the lab.

Purah's eyes immediately locked onto Impa and grew wide with horror. "I-Impa...Impa?...Impa?!" she wailed as she launched herself towards her younger sister. "No! Please say it isn't so!" she pleaded. "What happened?!" she screamed rounding on Zelda. "This...you…this all happened since you became Queen, how could you allow this for her…for me…for all of us?!" Link immediately stepped in to defend Zelda and received a sharp slap across the face from Purah who jumped up and hit him. "You are no better defending her! You call yourself a man Link?! I am disgusted!". "P-purah, s-stop! D-darkness!" Impa struggled weakly. "Oh Impa!" Purah sobbed. "Try not to spe"-. "S-sk-skulltula" Impa struggled. "What did she just say?" Purah responded stunned, with barely a whisper.

Robbie was still no closer to cracking the mystery of the beasts. He was not sure of when his last encounter was with the creepy man, called 'Bloodwin'. However, he sensed a great many hours had passed. Suddenly the door to his cell clicked and his body stiffened. A shock went up his spine as he sensed that time was up…he had failed. In came Bloodwin. "Robbie!" Bloodwin barked in a sickeningly friendly manner. "Let us hear the good news of how you have cracked the mystery!". "I-I haven't" Robbie stammered. "I am sorry, what did you just say?" Bloodwin said calmly and yet with a sense of danger in his voice.

"I haven't" Robbie responded in barely a whisper. "Louder!" Bloodwin bellowed. "I haven't!" Robbie yelled in fear. Suddenly, Bloodwin was almost on top of him. He felt a skeletal hand wrapped around his. Robbie realised what his terrifying captor may have in store for him, as Bloodwin produced a large ceremonial type of dagger. He pinned Robbie's hand to the table and held the blade to a finger. "What I said about the Redeads is very much your fate Robbie, but I gather this will motivate your mind a little more in the meantime!" he seethed. He readied the dagger.

"Wait I know the answer!" Robbie screamed. Bloodwin stopped the swift movement downwards, the dagger dangerously close to one of Robbie's fingers. "You said you didn't!" he hissed. "So, you are openly betraying our good will towards you by deliberately withholding information, hmm?!". "I have a feasible theory, but I need a whole core, a damaged fragment won't do!" Robbie pleaded. Bloodwin's eyes burned into Robbie searching for a liar. Robbie, however, did indeed have a vague theory. "I believe that something is inscribed on the core or contained within a whole one that allows complete control, but I cannot be sure unless I have one!". This really was the last shot he had. There was a tense pause, Robbie could hear his own heart pounding. Bloodwin looked at him for a moment before an evil smile crept across his face. With one fell swoop a sickening crunch rang out and Robbie screamed, as he felt excruciating pain emanating from where a finger used to be attached.

Impa began to feel light and floaty as the cold, dark world around her began to peel away. The severe pain in her abdomen began to ease. She felt as though she were slipping into warm water, or into a long-passed elder's warm embrace once more. Suddenly, she found herself standing in a strange place that felt oddly familiar to some distant part of her memory. A roaring fire was before her, illuminating the many totemic Sheikah objects that adorned the wall above. The air was filled with a heady aroma of burning herbs and wildflowers. She stood silently, contemplating exactly where she was until a gentle creaking sound pulled her to.

Wheeling round quickly, she was met with an elderly woman in a rocking chair that she immediately recognised and whom she herself was recognised by. "Impa...is that surely you, my little Impy?". "G-grammy?" Impa said softly, finding her voice strangely childlike again. "Ahhh my dear sweet Impy, come hither child. Come sit on your old Grammy's lap". Impa wasted no time complying and found herself wrapped in a warm embrace while feeling delicate fingers running soothingly through her hair. "Oh Impy. Dear child, sweet child. You could be outside right now getting into all sorts of mischief with Purah and that naughty boy she consorts with. They are always chasing poor critters and breaking things. Always so hungry for knowledge on how the world works".

Impa gazed up lovingly at the woman who smiled softly. "Unlike you my dear child, you always want to know why the world is the way it is rather than how. So inwardly curious about what came to pass. You like Grammy's stories don't you child?". "Yes Grammy, your stories are the bestest in the whole wide world!" the childlike Impa responded happily. "Well, I am glad you like them child, which ones are your favourites?" the woman asked smiling lovingly at her. "Hmm well I like the one about the lands from a long, long time ago!" Impa replied. "Ahh yes, long before your Grammy was even alive!" "That's a long time ago!" Impa yelled innocently.

Young Impa's endearing awe drew a hearty laugh from the woman. "Precisely my child" her voice became a soft whisper. "So long ago it was, that barely anyone remembers those times anymore, apart from those that care to pass them down. So precious are these tales, I am glad you care enough to listen Impy. You may one day speak of them to your own children!". "Ew, does that mean I have to kiss boys?" Impa asked with a scowl. The woman laughed loudly. "I'm afraid so child but fear not of that now, that is a long way away when you are all grown up. For now, why doesn't Grammy tell you one of those stories?".

"Tell me the scary one about the tree and the skull monsters!" Impa yelled enthusiastically. The woman's face flashed with mild concern. "Oh Impy, it is getting late my child, you may have a nightmare" she responded. "Tell me, I am a big girl now!" Impa yelled in response. The woman chuckled. "So you are. Alright child, settle. It begins like this".

Once upon a time, in a land that was vastly different from our own. A gravely injured Hylian woman raced into a magical forest, home to an ancient tribe long since lost to the ages. She carried with her a young child. In her mind she was saving her precious baby boy from the destruction of the land, waged by a terrible battle. Unbeknown to her at the time however, this boy was a boy of destiny who would one day carry the entire fate of Hyrule on his shoulders. She entrusted her darling child to the watch of a mystical being of the earth known as-

"The Great Deku Tree!", Impa barked back enthusiastically having heard the story many times. "Quite right my child!" the woman praised. "Wait Grammy, the Great Deku Tree must be reeeeally old!". The woman smiled. "Ahh but child you forgot one thing, the Deku Tree from our time is a far distant descendant from the Deku Tree in this story, remember?". "Oh…yeah!" Impa said sadly remembering the ending.

For much of his childhood the young boy lived as a Kokiri. The Kokiri were an ancient tribe of eternal children that was said to have later been transformed by a dark curse, to become the timid little forest sprites we know today as Koroks. There, the young boy lived in but a humble tree house unaware of his incredible destiny…until one fateful day. A fairy appeared before him and he was summoned before his guardian father the Great Deku Tree. It was revealed that a dark man of the desert placed a wicked curse upon the tree, in revenge for not being given a sacred gemstone of immense power.

The woman smiled as Impa furrowed her brow like she always did when the story reached that part. "I don't like that man, what a terrible thing to do!" she said. "Quite!", the woman responded. "He had terrifying power as the legends say".

After commanding the young boy to take sword and shield in hand, the Deku Tree challenged the boy's courageousness by tasking him to destroy the curse the dark man had placed upon him. His courage was truly remarkable, as he valiantly set foot inside the Deku Tree.

Impa twitched nervously, knowing that the creepiest part of the story was coming up. "Are you sure you wish for me to continue Impy? You surely will get nightmares at this hour!" the woman said, stroking Impa's head reassuringly. "No, I won't, please continue Grammy pleeeease!". "Very well child, I shall".

The Deku Tree to the young boy's surprise was simply gigantic. A maze of vines and ledges to climb up. The boy came to the base of some vines and grabbing them, he began to climb…higher…higher…higher still until suddenly…

Impa felt the woman's hands creep their way across her neck and shivered as she imagined the disgusting beast crawling across her for real.

Out of the vines crept the eight-legged creature known as the Skullwalltula, a close relative of the larger ever more terrifying Skulltula. The ancient hero very nearly got a nasty venomous bite from the creature had he not reacted quickly by letting go. However, his courage was unwavering. He explored elsewhere and found a simple crafted weapon nearby from a far less fortunate Kokiri warrior, who had succumbed to a terrible fate. With the simple slingshot in hand *crack* *crack* *crack* felled the eight-legged monsters one by one.

Ever deeper into the tree he ventured, and the monsters only got more terrifying. He made his way along a sticky, silken floor. His feet stuck to the ground as though he were wearing heavy metal boots. Then…suddenly *Woosh!*.

Impa jumped as she had done many times at this part covering her mouth, her eyes wide with fear.

Now dangling in front of the young hero from the very top of the tree, hanging by a thick thread of silk…a big, scary, venom dripping Skulltula! The largest of the monsters (until that point at least). It attempted to pounce on our hero and eat him alive. It would have surely succeeded had it not been felled by his humble ceremonial sword known as the Kokiri sword. Though our hero was small Impy, his courage was far greater than the beast that threatened his life. He slayed it with ease, without receiving a single bite.

Impa looked frightened. "W-what if it did bite him?" she stammered. The woman's expression turned more solemn. "Then my child, the world we know today may well have been a far darker place. Though thankfully those vile beasts were wiped out long ago, their bite was said to be lethal to those with a weak body and spirit. Only those who could truly master themselves and not succumb to the darkness coursing through their veins, would survive long enough to be treated but even then…". "I-I-I am glad they don't exist anymore!" Impa said shakily. "As am I child" the woman said softly.

Deeper he ventured, using every item at his disposal to fell the vile beasts. He stunned them and slashed fearlessly like the courageous hero he was destined to be. Deeper and deeper still into the Great Deku Tree, he ended up beneath the very ground itself. Finally, he reached a chamber that was dark and carried an eerie mist. A scraping sound echoed out. Looking around cautiously at first, the hero saw nothing but then suddenly…he found himself locking eyes with the beast that was the source of the Great Deku Trees suffering. The vile source of the desert man's curse known as Queen Ghoma!

Impa gasped, again like she had done many times before at this part.

The battled for what seemed like an eternity, the vile creature trying to pounce on our hero and spawning its young to assist, quickly had him outnumbered. Yet, our hero still had the upper hand, for he discovered the beast's greatest weakness.

Impa's eyes grew wide with excitement as always and she quickly pointed to one of them. "That's right my child! What a smart girl you are and what a smart hero he was!".

With his humble slingshot he took aim at the creatures gigantic eye and…*crack!* a perfect shot! The creature lay stunned as he rushed forwards gallantly and with a swish of his sword, provided a fatal blow right to the creature's large, grotesque eye. The creature crumbled in a plume of dark smoke now slain by our hero and with that the curse was lifted.

Impa beamed widely as she imagined herself looking through the eyes of the triumphant hero.

However, it came at a price…

Impa's joyous expression quickly turned to sorrow as she remembered that the worst part of the story approached.

While the hero did indeed break the desert man's curse. The tree soon succumbed to its dark effects and its essence passed from this world. However, not before it was able to pass down knowledge of the creation of Hyrule and the existence of a sacred artifact hidden in a locked realm sealed by a mighty blade. The blade itself hidden behind a mighty stone door which was further sealed by a sacred melody and three spiritual jewels gifted to three chosen races. Can you remember who the races are Impy?

"The Kokiri, the Goron and the Zoras!" Impa recited perfectly. "That is right Impy, clever girl! You really do love Grammy's stories don't you?". "Yes!" Impa yelled happily. The woman began to conclude her tale.

The Great Deku Tree's death was thus not in vain, as it finished imparting the vital knowledge to the chosen hero and instructed him to meet with the sacred princess of destiny. In its final act, it gifted the young hero with the Kokiri's emerald, the gemstone the desert man wanted so badly he doomed the forest guardian to an inevitable death.

"I still don't understand why the desert man had to kill the Great Deku Tree; he must have been really horrible!" Impa responded sadly. "Ahh but child, the Deku Trees death furthered a larger plan…much like yours will soon too Impy…". "G-grammy, what does that mean?" Impa looked up frightened at the woman who began to trail off and look vacant. "Oh, oh ignore me child, Grammy is starting to get sleepy and by the looks of it so is Impy. I think that is enough story time for tonight".

Impa snuggled into the woman but felt troubled. "Grammy?" she asked softly. "Yes child?". "When you were sick, you sent me a letter…" Impa started hesitantly, a distant memory suddenly felt unlocked in her mind. "I was sick?" the woman responded sounding surprised. "Yes…gravely, you didn't make it" Impa said, her eyes pricking. "Oh child, you must have me confused with another Grammy! I haven't been sick for many, many moons". "It was you…I was still only young, around fifteen years old". Impa felt and sounded strangely older in that very moment, her memories becoming more vivid.

In the letter you mentioned about being haunted in nightmares, by some man named Ganondorf and how he would one day return from his prison to destroy Hyrule…who is he? Is he the desert man from the stories? If so, what happened to him why does his name sound like Calamity Ganon's?

Impa winced as her abdomen began to hurt, she glanced down but saw nothing. "Oh Impy, do you have tummy gripes? Do you want Grammy to fetch you some medicine?" the woman soothed, unbothered by Impa's questioning. The fire began to die down and an eerie darkness crept across the room which started to grow cold. Impa pressed on, undiscouraged.

You used to say the man was sealed in the future by a time travelling hero upon obtaining a piece of the sacred relic. He was then captured in the past after the returning hero warned the king of events to come. However, during his execution, he was found to be in possession of the relic seemingly defying time itself. His past self was then banished to a dark realm for a time. He returned during the era of darkness only to be slain again finaly, in the name of light. However, what of his future self? You never mentioned that his future self was still sealed in the sacred realm, where the natural laws of time do not apply. What happened to that version of Ganondorf…still in possession of his piece of the Triforce?...

Silence. "Grammy…Grammy are you still awake? Why won't you answer me?" Impa shivered and looked in shock as her breath created a plume of steam in the icy darkness. The room suddenly looked much different. The paintings on the rotting wooden wall were lopsided and peeling. The fire that was ablaze moments ago looked like it had not been lit for years. The furniture was thick with years of dust and the air was dank and musty, carrying with it a reek of decay.

The woman's soft body just moments ago, now suddenly felt bony and uncomfortable and Impa noticed she was many times larger now. "G-grammy?" Impa stammered. Turning towards the woman she screamed, throwing herself backwards and banging her head painfully on a table. The woman looked long since dead, just a withered husk of bones encased in mummified flesh. Yet…she...it, spoke. Weak, gruff, raspy.

"Oh, my dear sweet Impy" the unnatural voice chewed though the darkness like an ancient chainsaw. "I was always there…waiting". The body stood up and slowly moved towards Impa. Grotesque cracking and creaking sounds rang out with every lumbering movement as it focused on Impa with a creepy fixed skeletal grin. Impa felt some essence of consciousness focus upon her, despite the seemingly lifeless eye sockets she gazed up at; longing to find some semblance of humanity where there was none.

"Your fear…is delicious!" the corpse gurgled as Impa scrambled across the floor whimpering. Despite the corpse being slow, Impa was paralysed by fear and felt it advancing on her. Hauling herself to her feet she desperately clutched the handle of the front door to the house which promptly crumbled under her grip. She heaved against the door pleading, as the creature was almost on top of her. Suddenly, the door gave way and she fell through it…only to find herself falling back into the house and into the arms of the monster. Its rotten mouth opened ready to take a bite from Impa's flesh. Swinging across with the door handle still in her grasp she struck the creature hard across the head which broke off and fell to the ground.

Screaming in fear, Impa rushed out of the door again, only to find herself running back towards house and the fallen monster again…and again…and again. Suddenly, the headless body rose back up and with sickening cracks and crunches, it leaned down and replaced its head back onto its body. It let out a horrifying demonic laugh. "Foolish, pathetic little girl! There is no escape! You are stuck with me for eternity now, just like your pathetic kin!" Impa cried out in horror and the thing closed its eyes savouring her anguish. "Oh, how I miss the screams of a fresh tormented Sheikah soul, it has been far too long. Simply delicious!".

Sometime before, Robbie was hunched into a corner trembling. He was cradling the painful bloody stump that used to be a complete finger, wrapped heavily in crimson stained fabric. A click rang out and he cowered. The door opened and Bloodwin entered the room carrying with him a large glowing object. He was closely flanked by the monstrosity he now knew to be the Redead. Robbie did not take his eyes off the creature for a second, his body stiff with fear. Silently Bloodwin made his way over to the guardian Robbie had been working on. He grabbed a leg, tearing it violently from the machine, then another and another. Finally, he reached for the turret and wrenched it clean of the body, the snapping of metal ringing out across the room.

Robbie let out a soft defeated gasp, which did not go unnoticed by Bloodwin. A cunning grin crept across his unnatural face and he spoke with a soft yet arrogant tone. "If this theory were truly to command the guardian to kill me, you would be wasting your precious time. I can and have felled many of these pathetic machines, they are no threat to me whatsoever". "Then why dismantle it?" Robbie whimpered. "I just don't appreciate providing hospitality to my guest only to have them make an attempt on my life, it is…unbecoming" he said with a grin. "I need a complete guardian to see whether the theory is true!" Robbie cried. "You said you needed a whole core, you have one! You also have ten minutes before I start taking more fingers and after that, the Redead can have you!". He slammed the door shut behind him, leaving him alone with the Redead.

It was hunched in a foetal position yet did not take its lifeless eyes off him for a second, sizing him up like a wolf would size up its next meal. He could sense the creature's hunger for his soul from a distance that was nowhere near far enough. He clambered nervously to his feet pressing his back against the wall. He was stiff with fear as he watched the creature for signs of movement. It did not however move. He mustered every ounce of strength to inch forwards and did so one shaky step at a time. The creature remained still as he inched closer and closer to the table. Panicked he staggered forwards and seized the core whimpering. He rolled it around shakily on the table and observed frantically for symbols or signs, but he found nothing. Is this really to be my fate, rotting in this forsaken place as an unhallowed monster? Robbie began to resign himself to his gruesome fate…but then it happened.

The core slipped from his shaky hand and he used his damaged one reflexively to painfully stop it. He ended up smearing blood over the core which suddenly began to glow. A strange sensation came over Robbie, memories of a long-lost past began to flood his mind and he felt as one with the object that lay before him. It was then that everything clicked into place at once. Robbie had a vision of the Guardians being assembled, a long procession of Sheikah men lining up to offer a single drop of their blood for the cores. The heart of the mighty mechanical warriors now one with their own.

He recalled the legend of the one hundred and twenty shrines that dotted the land, supposedly containing monks that had trapped themselves in a self-imposed form of stasis. Ready to offer the hero of legend their aid but in the meantime, meditating. Focusing their pure unbending will through the guardians. It was brilliant, an entire army of decrepit old men in command of an entire army of mechanical beasts. An entire army of old men opposed and played a part critically wounding, supposedly the most powerful being to exist and its hordes. Robbie could not help in that moment letting out a maniacal laugh.

The calamity taking control of the guardians, must have been him imprinting his own will on them but then what of the divine beasts? They could only wander aimlessly and yet they are capable of far more destruction. Why could he not fully master them?!

Robbie took a deep breath feeling like he was back to square one, as footsteps began approaching the cell once more. However, he was then hit with a flashback. It was the day he was called upon to inspect the divine beasts after the previous champions were chosen. He recalled a conversation between Daruk and Revali as he passed them by. "I just don't see why we have to do that?!" Daruk said looking terrified. Revali scoffed. "Oh, don't be such a baby it's just a drop. I cannot believe a big strong guy like you is the best the Gorons have to offer. Honestly, you all make me look so bad I could have done this singlehandedly with Vah Medoh!". Just a drop…a drop…they gave their blood!

With that, the final piece of the puzzle clicked for Robbie, he had done it. Calamity Ganon could not fully control the beasts because they were aligned to blessed blood. Blood chosen by Zelda…by her sacred bloodline and by default chosen by Hylia! Even consumed by malice all they could do was wander uselessly in circles defending themselves, the champions blood through Zelda's power opposed his full control! The guardians, however, were smaller and commanded by regular Sheikah folk. That explains why they were more easily manipulated!

The door clicked open and in walked Bloodwin followed by the other dark figures. "Time's up Robbie and judging by that look on your face and the jubilant laugh you let out just now, you know something. So…please do share your findings with us". Robbie tensed and frowned. "N-never!" he yelled defiantly. Bloodwin frowned and he let out an angry huff before a wicked smile crept across his face. "I guess you have outlived your usefulness now. So, I guess I will just take what we need from you and crush you like the insect that you are!".

Suddenly Robbie felt an icy hand clawing at the inside of his head. He let out pained screams as his body jolted and his mind seemingly gave up the information, he longed to keep secret. You cannot access or control the Divine Beasts by yourself. You need the new chosen ones to help pilot them. They are bonded solely with a unique bloodline. "I see" Bloodwin hissed triumphantly to himself. "Very useful to know. Lord Ganondorf will surely be delighted with these developments" Robbie felt himself regain his movement again. Scrambling over the table, he grabbed one of the torn off guardian legs. He inserted it under the torn off turret that Bloodwin placed on the table touching it to the severed wires. He then touched the other end to the core and silently prayed to his ancestors.

"You have done so well Robbie, but I am afraid the time has come for us to dispose of you. Farewell, I cannot say I won't enjoy watching this!" Bloodwin yelled out, as himself and his followers let out evil laughs. Robbie could hear the Redead groaning as it advanced on him. He forced himself to overcome his fear, as he cleared his mind and tried to will himself to become one once again with the core. Suddenly he found himself looking both forwards through his own eyes and backwards at his enemies through mechanical ones. Yes, come on! Just a little more, please. Work for me…fire…fire… "FIRE DARN YOU!" he exclaimed loudly with all his might.

Before himself or his captors realised what had happened, there was a loud flash and a deafening explosion which catapulted Robbie clean out of the cell through a large hole in the wall. He hauled himself painfully to his feet, his ears ringing and his vision full of stars. Not really knowing what he was doing or where he was going, he raced off free into the unknown.

Sometime, later Bloodwin came to. Blood pouring from his mouth and nose. "Heh…heh heh heh heh heh! Not bad child…not bad!" he spluttered pulling himself up and staring out into the dark wilderness beyond. "What the hell was that?!" Sorcia screamed wiping blood from her head. "He souped up the canon. He planned this all along and I unwittingly helped him. Oh, maybe we have underestimated our enemy!" Bloodwin responded with excitement in his voice. "and you are okay letting him escape after that?!" Vorous exclaimed incredulously. "He has earnt his freedom…for now" Bloodwin replied softly. Besides, we already have what we need. Whatever they try next is a lost cause. Come on, let us go get Zelda's little light keepers!" as he passed by the Redead an evil smile crept across his face. "Necrus, your gift for summoning the damned, may I borrow it once more?". Necrus grinned wickedly back. "Of course, master!" he rasped.

~That was a heck of an intense chapter to write. Definitely darkest one yet too, I hope you enjoyed reading it!~

Edit: Thank you so much to my regular guest reviewer as always for your honest feedback, which helps me to perfect my story writing! I decided to refine this chapter to erase a very irritating cliche about magical tears which actually bugged me to no end after posting it. This concept was carried over from Age of Calamity with Zelda and Terrako. AoC is a great game but I would agree with my feedback that the concept is very cliche and didn't have a positive effect on my chapter. I therefore decided it would be best to pull it and thankfully, doing so has no effect on the story whatsoever :) Also wrote Nayra in, just incase anyone was fearful that Zelda and Link left her behind!

Also, rewrote an interaction towards the end there between Bloodwin and Necrus for something that will become apparent next chapter. Stay tuned! :)
