Vivian opened her eyes to the same cage she was locked in. Her mind was in a state of shock after what she experienced, and her body was still trembling. She lost sense of time and could not state for how long she was just lying there, paralyzed. The girl pulled herself on the bunk with a bit of effort and eyed the surroundings past the cell. An almost agonizing sting of pain ran through her head and disappeared almost as quickly as it appeared. Her breath was getting calmer, and she herself was feeling more at ease. However, her body was strangely heavy. She was feeling tired, almost like she didn't sleep for a whole day. After Vivian stood up and went to the glass door of her cell, she noticed a new person taking rounds around the dungeon of this establishment.
The new jailer was a tall man with an athletic physique, darker skin tone, short, spiky hair in a shade of blue-green. Vivian noticed an interesting weapon on his back: a two-handed sword with a broad but hollowed-out blade holding an intricate mechanism. It was a guillotine. Looking at him made her even more tired, so she fell back on the bunk to rest a bit. Her eyes started slowly closing involuntarily when she did, and she would fall asleep if it wasn't for a voice that rolled near her cell. It was a voice of a woman.
"Kain! How are things?"
A simple grunt was the only answer she got from the man.
"You're replacing Yakshith or what?"
Vivian blinked a few times to not fall asleep. The woman that was speaking to the tall guy had a pink mohawk. She stepped closer to the door to better see and hear their conversation.
"I'm supposed to, but he's still in the base." The man answered in a deep baritone.
"So the whole team SPKY (Spooky) is in one place," she smiled, putting her hands on her hips. "So the guys I encountered that want to break in will have a fun time… We will have a fun time."
The man again grunted as a way of answering and leaned on a nearby cell.
"They apparently want to free some girl, have any info on who that might be?"
He grunted again, but from the intonation, it almost sounded like 'I don't know.'
The woman scowled at him. "You're as useful as ever. Fine, I'll leave you be. Better not get drained before the kiddos start crushing the party."
The moment she turned around, another man entered the room. Vivian remembered the messy hairdo of light blue and those bright, ocean green eyes. It was Yakshith.
"Sup' bitches!" He exclaimed the moment he saw the other members of his team. With his arms behind his head, he looked very smug. His smile again made Vivian cringe.
"Maybe you know something…" Before the girl could finish her thought, the enthusiastic man continued talking.
"You won't believe what happened! This girl here," he pointed out Vivian's cell, " tried to escape, and if it wasn't for my homie Korin she would, like totally bust out!"
She looked at Vivian, who was standing close to the door. Their eyes met, and a strange shiver went down Black's spine.
"The way she got out was really tenta-cool!" Yakshith started laughing, holding his stomach.
The woman raised an eyebrow. "What?" She asked, confused.
The man stopped his giggle. "Oh, right. She has some ability that allows her to manifest Grimm-like tentacles from her aura."
The pink-haired woman rolled her eyes so hard that her head followed. She then got closer to Vivian's cage to have a better look at her.
"You better watch out for her," Yakshith smiled. "She's well-armed!" He again bursted into laughter.
"So you're a Huntress," she addressed the girl in the cell. "You're probably ecstatic about the information that your friends are planning on busting you out."
Vivian got even closer to the glass barrier. "You know, that was our plan all along."
The pink-haired woman chuckled, amused. "Keep telling yourself that." She turned around and addressed Kain, who was standing a bit further. "Keep your eyes on her. The coats already know about the incursion plans, so things should heat up soon."
The man just grunted with a smile on his face.
The girl shivered. "Just a short time with you, and I already feel tired."
"Sorry," Kain answered, not even looking at them.
"Don't fret, gurl. He doesn't have to hold back when I'm around." Yakshith said, waving to the tall man before they exited the room.
From afar, Vivian could hear an angry scream from the woman. "But it doesn't change the fact that he's still exhausting!"
Vivian eyed the man with the giant guillotine-sword. She chuckled at the thought, but the first thing that came to her mind was that both Neil and Nina would be thrilled to see that weapon of his. Following up on what the pink-haired girl said, Black did find his personality exhausting as well. He did have a similar vibe to Granola as she remembered him, but even the brute could hold up a conversation. However, why did Yakshith say that he doesn't have to hold back with him around? Kain did seem like a very composed man, so that comment didn't make much sense to her.
Another thing that made her nervous. The thing that she noticed in the lab part of the complex. The idea of experimenting on humans to create Grimm hybrids made her sickened. The only thing on her mind right now was to just destroy this place and everything inside.
A sudden alarm pulled her out of her thoughts. It seemed that someone was storming the complex.
"You said you can take care of the door," Raymond looked at Neil with his eyebrow raised. "In my mind, it meant not triggering the alarm."
The red-head opened the door to the warehouse that led to a long corridor. He held his head, which hurt more and more with the loud siren blasting from the inside of the complex. At this point, the pain made him close his left eye even more.
"I would love to see you try doing that," he answered without hiding his sarcastic tone.
"No time to argue," Amethyst went inside as she noticed some people react to the incursion. "It's time to fight!" She adjusted her Vucub Caquix, the shotgun tonfa sticks.
Gran was right behind her, and they both started making a path for the rest of the team. The henchmen weren't as formidable as one could assume. Simple guards with guns and swords that did not pose a serious threat to experienced Huntsmen. They both had no problem dealing with the defendants' first wave, who tried to swarm them as soon as they entered the warehouse. One of the guards rushed towards the attackers, but Ame grabbed him by his face and smashed into the nearest wall. The building shook after the impact.
"Careful! We don't want to get buried under concrete." Neil reasoned towards his friend.
After the first wave of security, they were practically unopposed to move deeper into the complex. The corridor was stretching throughout the entire building. It was wide enough for about five people to walk beside each other, with rooms on both sides. They didn't check any of them as they already had a route planned out. When they got to the first room they suspected was designed to hold prisoners, Gran noticed that the first people in view were Faunus in cages. His anger was starting to rise, with his breath revealing his rage.
"I can free the people here," he said, his voice deep and animalistic. "You go to the next."
"I don't think anyone is going anywhere," a female voice they all recognized came from in front of them. She and two other men at her side emerged from behind a second corridor further in the complex. "And I don't think there is a probability of surrender…"
"Good," Amethyst took a step forward. "I don't like when the enemy just gives up."
"Go, Gran," Nina said towards her partner. "We can handle things here."
The Faunus nodded and ran inside the room.
"Oh no, you don't!" The smallest of the men shouted and jumped towards the group unsheathing his three-bladed claw gauntlets.
He was intercepted by Amethyst, who smacked him into the wall on their left, going through it into the room. The pink-haired woman vanished and dashed towards the group, but Raymond was there to stop the attack.
"So we meet again," he said, looking her straight in the eyes.
"It seems we can have our fun quicker than expected," she said and jumped away. She then ran past the huge man that was still standing. Ray gave chase, wary of the warrior; however, he did nothing to stop his pursuit.
Nina and Neil were the only ones left in the corridor with the last of the fighters that came to stop them. He was almost as tall as Gran and had a robust stature that was quite intimidating up close.
The man chuckled, seeing the enemies he was about to fight. After a few seconds of staring at them, he said in a deep voice: "I will not harm you if you just leave."
Nina's ears twitched. "Listen, we're just here for our friend. What is your name?"
The man shifted his head to the side, almost like a dog who encounters something he doesn't understand. He then tilted his head back, looking down on them. "Kain Teal."
"Listen, Kain," she started to reason with the tall, well-built man. "We don't want any bloodshed either. If you just let us inside…"
"That I cannot do." He interrupted her train of thought.
"Why not?" Neil asked.
Kain's face changed. He was giving them a stern look now. "Because I get paid to keep people out." He answered and grabbed his weapon from the magnetic holster on his back. The guillotine-sword piqued the interest of both members of team AVNNGR, but it was Neil who couldn't resist being intrigued.
"Interesting weapon you have there," he stated.
"We can still talk this through…" Nina still tried to defuse the situation.
"No," the man growled and grabbed his sword in a reverse grip. He then went down on all fours with the blade resting on his back. He looked like a wild animal ready to pounce.
Raymond followed the girl through a T-shaped cross to a door she opened with a card. He dove before the room was closed and prepared for a fight. With a quick glance at the place, he deduced that it was a lab of some kind. Before Ray could take a deeper gander, he was attacked by the mohawk girl. She emerged from behind a tall cabinet with both her hook swords slashing from the side. He swayed to the side, deflecting both blades, and dashed away to keep his distance. They both paused for a brief moment to evaluate the enemy.
While they were circling around, ready to strike at any moment, the girl started to talk. "I think I figured out why you can see me."
"Yeah?" Ray feinted being intrigued. "Why is that?"
"Let's see if you can figure it out. If you can see me, I wonder if you…" She continued to talk, but her words did not reach Raymond's ears.
She dashed with her weapons striking from above. Ray quickly blocked the attempt. However, there was no sound of clashing steel. The disconnection of the scene confused him to the point where he wasn't prepared for another attack. A slash across his legs. The pain quickly made him regain his focus, and he blocked the next incoming attack. Again there was no sound. He concentrated on the dichotomy between the sounds he could and couldn't hear. Every time their blades clashed, it was silent. However, his own actions were as loud as always. Looks like her semblance works on others but only conceals her actions?
Another attack he was able to deflect to the side. With a sweeping slash, he advanced towards his opponent. She was able to duck the attack and rolled to the side. Ray wanted to end this fight as fast as possible, so he activated his semblance. His blinder opened, revealing a golden eye where there previously was nothing. The moment he did, the enemy disappeared in a flash. He deactivated the ability the moment he understood what was going on and saw the girl attacking with a spin slash with both of her hook swords. So I was able to see her because I have no depth perception?
The moment Amethyst rammed through the wall, the fighter she held kicked her with both feet in her chest, loosening her grip. He slipped away and quickly dashed for an attack with his claws. The Faunus girl grabbed his blades and wrestled him to the ground. The opponent on his knees started to smile, a grin that looked almost inhuman.
He chuckled. "It seems you're pretty tailented."
"Did you just…" She was taken aback, and the opponent used this opportunity to again slip out of her clutches. He slashed her face with both claws and jumped away to create a safe distance. With her aura active, the attack did not damage her. Although her face hurt, she could not stop smiling. So my opponent is a man who thinks he's funny, went through her head.
She braced, prepared for another assault. "Sneaky little bugger."
Granola noticed that all the cages in that room were filled with both humans and Faunus. Many of them were lying, probably unconscious; He didn't want any other possibility to come to his mind seeing them. Very few of the prisoners looked at him with empty gazes, like people who lost all of their hope and will to live. However, there were some individuals that he could not identify. Grimm-like hybrid beings that looked the more grotesque, the more he kept looking at them.
"You don't have the right to be here!" A man dressed in a lab coat tried to stop him, but Gran grabbed him by his throat and forced him to a nearby wall.
"Free those people," he closed his face to the man he was holding, exposing his fangs. "Or else…"
"There is no need for violence, friend," a tall man with rigid spider arms said in a soothing voice.
Gran let go of the man, who started coughing and massaging his neck.
"And who are you?" Canis asked with growing anger in his voice.
The other Faunus took a few steps towards the huge Huntsmen. "Korin Sepia, and who might I have the pleasure with?"
Canis was taken aback by the enemy's demeanor for a short while, but he answered his question. "Granola… Granola Canis."
"So, mister Granola Canis," Korin took off his cloak. "I think it's time you leave this place."
He was dressed in a simple vest that allowed him the unrestricted movement of his arms, covered in spikes up to his elbows. On his left forearm, there was a machine that Gran could not guess what was for.
"I think not," Gran said, activating his Crimson Tide. Blades slid out with a distinctive metallic echo from both sides. He was prepared for a fight.
The tall Faunus sighed with a disappointed look on his face.
"It seems you didn't understand," he added, pulling out a Kris from the sheath he had on his lumbar. "You will leave. The only question is if it'll be on your own feet or in a body bag."
