A Lunch with the League

Chapter 2: Breaking the Ice

This was more awkward than most people would have imagined. All nine of them sat listening to the silence in the room keeping an open ear for any notification so they could pretend there was an emergency and immediately leave.

Shigaraki however, was not waiting for a notification. He was resting his head on his palm trying to figure out, and I quote the voice inside his head, "Since when did Toga start shutting the hell up?"

Toga obviously had her own reasons for shutting the hell up. She was busy giving All Might and Eri death glares because they had occupied the seats on either side of Midoriya, seats she believed, belonged to her.

Toga however had managed to get a seat right in front of Midoriya. At first, she was glad she could sit in front of Midoriya but when she noticed that Midoriya had focused all his attention and glowing eyes on All Might, she had had it. Now, instead diving the death glares equally, she focused most of her death glares on All Might only occasionally looking at Eri.

All Might was not used to this undivided attention in his deflated form. He had imagined many scenarios of Midoriya stalking him, but the fact that Toga, whom he found scary even without the death glares, was staring at him, brought him seconds away from actually wishing there was a villain attack.

Toga was disappointed. She had been so excited to sit in front of Midoriya that do so, she had even allowed herself to sit in between Shigaraki and Dabi. She had no problem in this, but the other two viewed this situation otherwise.

Shigaraki was obviously annoyed by Toga's never-ending creepy blabbering, but now that she was quiet, he was even more annoyed. He had taken out time from scheming highly important stuff just to figure out how to keep Himeko from talking. The fact that he needed to take a break from his members proved that he hadn't found the answer. When he saw All Might and Eri do it without putting in any kind of effort, it really got to him. He would have traded his decay for this power any day.

Dabi's suffering wasn't limited to only Himeko. Sitting to his right with one leg over the other was Twice, who was holding a teacup with his pinky-finger out and actually sipping tea through his mask.

'where do these people even get the tea from?' he wondered, side-eyeing Twice.

Despite all this, he had Eri sitting in front of him so he had that going on for him.

Inko was preparing the food and Midoriya could sense the tension pile up with each moment of disappointment from dry, unnotified phones. He realised he had to break the ice; his mother was hosting this after all.

And now that he thought about it, with all the time he spent training to get the League arrested and all the time they spent trying to kill him and all the other heroes, they never really had got the time to sit down and have a nice chit-chat.

"So, Shigaraki…" said Midoriya making an attempt to make people talk. "Do you have any siblings?"

"Not that I know of." He replied. "Do you have a father?"

"Not that I know of."

All Might glared at Midoriya. He was also the next person to speak up, to both show Midoriya how much of a father figure he was for encouraging his idea of breaking the ice and also to clear a doubt.

"Do you often drink tea?" he asked.

"Yes, Every day." Twice replied.

All Might nodded satisfied-ly.

"Okay, but from where did you get the teacup?" Dabi asked Twice who was now moulding a balloon into the shape of a bear to entertain Eri.

"What teacup?"

Dabi squinted his eyes at Twice, then decided he didn't have the energy for it. "Never mind" he said.

"YYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!" screamed Hizashi all of a sudden.

Everyone's spine straightened up. They turned their heads in every direction searching for him.

"Sorry. That's my phone." Aizawa said.

"Do you really have Hizashi as your ringtone?" All might asked, astonished.

Midoriya, again found himself thinking less of UA teachers with every word they spoke.

"Oh no!" Aizawa said looking up from his phone, pretending he didn't hear All Might. "Something came up, I have to leave."

"What came up?" All Might asked.

Aizawa, ignoring All Might again, collected his sleeping bag and was about to leave when Eri held his hand.

"That's right!" Midoriya said. "If you leave, Eri will also have to leave. That was principle Nezu's condition."

"Yes Aizawa" said Twice who was now wearing a pink and was in the middle of sewing Eri one. "Please don't go." Twice pouted (although his expression wasn't seen clearly through of his mask.)

"When did you—never mind" said Dabi again.

"Yeah Aizawa." Said All Might. "And besides, I'm sure that text was nothing. You're just trying to escape—"

Aizawa's eyes turned glowing red. His scarf started floating in the air followed by his hair as strong annoyance and anger decorated his face.

Silence fell upon the room again.

Everyone avoided eye contact except for Inko who was speechlessly staring right at Aizawa, frozen in the middle of placing crockeries on the table.

Aizawa calmed down.

"I'd love for you to stay." Inko said.

Aizawa forced a smile, nodded and sat back down on his chair.

XXX

The lunch so far was still pretty absurd. No no no. The lunch was awkward. What was absurd was Twice's whatever he was doing. We got to see some different sides of the people, like Toga's quiet side, Aizawa's Hizashi-tolerant side and Twice's multiple sides.
